Zootopia Blu-Ray June 7!

I am sooooo happy! Zootopia is coming out on Blu-Ray June 7. Thanks, Disney, for getting it out so quickly. I can't wait! Sounds like it should have a good amount of bonus material.

Wow that's awesome! I know it broke the box office records that Frozen set, which is a major feat. And I've seen very good press online. I will definitely be getting this movie!

The time between theatrical and home video release varies, but a lot of it is based on the box office. When movies are big hits they often hit sooner to keep up the momentum. Plus they've already earned enough in theaters so the home video market is a bonus. Family movies in particular need to strike while the iron is hot, and have high buyability/re-watchability with consumers.

Also, if a movie does terribly, they will try to rush it to home video in order to recoup their investment faster. Sometimes movies find an audience on video that they never had in the theaters too.

It's the movies that did well, but not extraordinarily well, that kind of linger, waiting for a prime slot to release against little competition. Sometimes they take up to a year, but there is also a general trend of things coming to home video faster in general, so the big movies are seeming even faster. This probably has a lot to do with digital becoming more prevalent too.

You can sign me up for day 1. I loved Zootopia.
