A Pink Pixie Princess - Complete!

Ugh - I feel you on playoff tickets. Since we're season ticket holders, if we want playoff tickets we have to pay UPFRONT for every possible playoff game that could be held. DS tickets were $30, CS tickets went up to $75 and World Series? $150! And, as is usual, I only got to use two of them. #WompWomp

That said, here is me with the Rick Vaughn hot dog from last year!

I feel you @Keels , I am a Chicago Blackhawks season ticket holder and we have to do the same thing with our playoff tickets. Round 1 & 2 upfront (all possible games), then if they win round 1 we have to fork over round 3 & 4. This usually happens right about the same time our deposit on next season is due. Ugh!
BTW if anyone ever needs hawks tickets, let me know :)

I was at the Cubs game 6 games as a total undercover sox fan in cubs clothing. But ultimately just a baseball fan and so when I had the chance to be at a maybe-historic game I jumped at it. It was thrilling but insane afterwards. Maybe I will need to do a bet with @Ariel484 for something. If Cleveland wins I send you a Chicago thing(s) and vice versa? My brain is tired from the weekend so that's all I got so far.

Everyone at my work looks hungover today, I suppose it was the same in Ohio last week.

Stop what you're doing and watch major league right now!
Completely agree with @rteetz! I love the first one!
Haven't gotten around to it yet! Sorry y'all. :guilty:
That is a crazy coincidence that you may be in Florida for another game 7- I hope for your sake that it is a sweep (though my Dad has been a hard core Dodgers fan since they were in Brooklyn, so if they end up going to the World Series, I may wish for Dad's happiness as well ;) )
I'm hoping for the sweep too but realistically...we'll see. :p
And I'm going to take the plunge and buy my second InkNBurn right now. That pullover is beautiful!!
I'm so excited for it! The only bad thing about these pre-orders is that we now have to wait to get them! Wahhhh.
Congrats on the series!
Sorry to hear you won't make it to the world series ... but it's still pretty awesome that you got to see some games in the earlier series. I'm super jealous (I've never been to a playoff baseball game).
Yeah, we're really lucky to have seen 4 awesome play-off games (we also went to the somewhat famous "bug game" in 2007 vs. the Yankees) so I really cannot complain. :)
I saw the InB Monarch pullover ... and I really almost bought it. But then I remembered that the stupid government expects me to pay my student loans :(
It's so beautiful ... I can't wait to see how it looks on you!
Stupid government!! :(
Also ... I love the ISO kit. It actually kinda reminds me a little bit of Spaceship Earth ... so totally appropriate for a future Disney race!
AHHH you're totally right! I did not put that together! :yay:
Yes. This. Major League is a must-watch movie.
I'll get to it someday! I know they just rip on Cleveland though so it's never been a must-see for me...maybe it'll be more fun to watch now since Cleveland is having an awesome year. :)
I swore no more running clothes (or any clothes) until at least 2017 but that monarch pullover was too pretty to resist. I justified it with my March marathon and the fact that they've predicted a cold, snowy winter. Best to be prepared! :teeth:
Yes, exactly! They really are great for colder weather, I LOVE having the thumbholes!
So exciting for you and Mr. A! And figures that we'd end up scheduling a college visit in the middle of the World Series! Arriving CLE Wednesday . . . and then driving back through Chicago on Friday night. At least it will all be wrapped up by the time we head to L.A. for the next college visit in November!
Right?! Wow, your timing is crazy! Who would have ever thought there would be a Cubs vs. Indians World series though?!

Definitely avoid downtown on Wednesday...but I'm sure you knew that. :)
Congrats to Cleveland!! What a great year your city is having! I'm a Braves fan so I remember the '95 series...we have been an embarrassment to baseball lately but that excitement that captures the city is so fun!
I remember the '95 series too. I was but a wee 11-year-old. Heartbroken!! :rotfl2: (seriously, I was pretty upset.)
 Truly, that monarch pullover is just stunning!! I ordered one and can't wait to get it! I LOVE that InknBurn listens to its fans!
Yay! I hope you love it!

The pullovers are my favorite thing they make, along with the long pants and the skirts...I'm excited to see what other pullovers come out this year. :)
The half course is about as meh as it gets...barely any park time! No world showcase even??? I feel like Wine and Dine is still trying to figure it out! I'm sure it will still be fun, but c'mon rD!
Right?! This race is definitely having an identity crisis this year. :sad2:

Wow, that paying upfront business is crazy. :confused3

So we paid $60 apiece for DS and then $80 apiece for CS - all in the same category/section. I was pleasantly surprised by those prices (and that's why we went to so many games) and knew we'd at least be over the $100 mark for WS. I got an email the day before that the WS tickets went on sale saying that tickets in that same section were $170, which was pretty nuts. Mr. A said that was too much and I was just like "we weren't here for Game 7 for the Cavs, I have been waiting for this since I was 11, we NEED to go!" Then I actually opened up the ticket link and thanks to "dynamic pricing" (as my cousin, who is an accountant for the Indians, called it - they price based on demand) they were suddenly $205 apiece. Just couldn't do it.
That said, here is me with the Rick Vaughn hot dog from last year!

KETCHUP!! I always root for Ketchup in the hot dog race. ::yes::
Well the WINDIANS get the cursed cubbies. I never mentioned this but I actually have a friend who's God parents are the owners of the Indians and her brother works in the front office. If the series goes to 6 and 7 they are flying out to Cleveland.
Well I hope we have completed the sweep by then! :teeth:

I just read that the owners are flying all of the full-time employees out to Chicago for games 3 or 4...pretty classy!
I was at the Cubs game 6 games as a total undercover sox fan in cubs clothing. But ultimately just a baseball fan and so when I had the chance to be at a maybe-historic game I jumped at it. It was thrilling but insane afterwards.
I saw your pictures and I was just like, "oh no, I can't be friends with RoxyMama for the next 1.5 weeks" (J/K!!! :lovestruc). How awesome that you were at that game!! How did you get tickets?!
Maybe I will need to do a bet with @Ariel484 for something. If Cleveland wins I send you a Chicago thing(s) and vice versa? My brain is tired from the weekend so that's all I got so far.
HMMMM...we'll have to think about this! :rotfl2:
Everyone at my work looks hungover today, I suppose it was the same in Ohio last week.
Last week, no (at least not that I noticed, but I work with a brunch of math/statistics nerds, so...) - the REALLY crazy day in Cleveland will be tomorrow. Not only is it Game 1 of the World Series, it's also the home opened for the Cavs - they'll be hanging the championship banner in the Q (Quicken Loans arena where the Cavs play) so I'm sure that will be a sellout, and of course the baseball game is a sellout. The Q and Progressive Field (where the Indians play) are right next to one another, like a 2-minute walk, so that area is gonna be CRAZY with fans, media, etc. and I'm thinking the entire city will be hung over on Wednesday.

I work downtown and drive right by there to go home so I'm seriously questioning my route home right now...

My hubby got invited by a work client pretty last minute. We already had a thing planned that night (hawks game) and had to sell those tickets to free us up to go the Cubs game. Kind of a crazy last minute thing. I even had to go buy the most subtle cubs hat I could find so I didn't look like a complete poser. Didn't think wearing a sox hat to the game would be advisable!

You can still be my friend...I'm just a bandwagoner now :)

At least Cleveland sports fans have the Browns to keep them humble these days ... :rotfl2:
These days? You make it sound like they're normally good! :rotfl2:

I learned not to care about the Browns at a very early age, so what they do has little effect on me. :teeth:

:rotfl2: I don't think people would have appreciated the Sox hat, so good call there. Glad we can still be friends!

Dopey Challenge Training - Week 7

Wine & Dine Simulation Week! :drinking1

Week 7 (10/17) - 24 miles
MO: 3 miles
TU: ST
WE: rest
TH: 3 miles
FR: 6 miles
SA: 12 miles
SU: ST/yoga

This is my peak week before Wine & Dine - again, I changed up my schedule to do a back-to-back, this time going 3 days in a row (which I don't plan on doing again until early December). And thanks to a scheduling goof I wasn't able to work in a second yoga class this week...the only time I would have been able to do it would have been either in the midst of my back-to-back-to-back runs (which seemed like a little much for me to handle) or Wednesday evening, but that would mean no rest day. No rest day is no bueno!

I woke up on Monday feeling almost completely better after being sidelined with a cold all weekend...just a bit of coughing and stuffiness left. Hooray! I felt it was super important to to my scheduled run today after missing the weekend’s schedule long run...I felt stiff but overall, this one was really good. Up to 3/1 intervals! Progress!

Thursday's run was good...pace dropped a bit on this one and I was able to keep up with it! Friday's run was really good also - this was a pretty busy day for me so I picked things up a bit and it went pretty well! It was windy and rainy out (the last mile or so was in pretty steady rain) but overall a pretty good run!

Rain, rain, go away!
29894460873_6c8d217329_z.jpg

Saturday was the big test - my longest run since last year's Disneyland Half Marathon. :faint: If it went well, it would be a huge confidence booster going forward. It started off great - the first 4 miles really flew by and I felt good enough that I had to remind myself that slowing down a bit would probably be smart since I hadn't run this far in so long and that I was now on day 3 in a row of running. My first 3 miles were the fastest of the whole run (oops), miles 4-9 were 35-45 seconds/mile slower, but pretty steady. As I approached the halfway point I just really, really wanted to be done. This was one of those runs where I had to really talk myself into continuing on. I just didn't feel like doing it!

But I am a running machine (dorkbot) so I continued on...you can see what kind of weather we're getting here all of a sudden since I'm busting out the long-sleeved shirts!
30410812232_e366f52727_z.jpg

I slowed WAY down over the last 3 miles - why? IT Band pain!! What?! This is almost never an issue for me, and I haven't had any trouble with it at all since that god-awful 10-miler in September, but here it was again - not the worst it has been (just on the outside of my left kneecap, not all the way up to my hip like I have had before) and not as bad as it was during the 10-miler, but it was still disappointing. I was doing 3/1 intervals for this run and decided that the way to go would be to take an extra 1-minute long walk break during every other run interval so that I could make it the full 12 miles. So my last 3 miles were pretty slow - about 45 seconds - 1:00/mile slower than the others - but I did finish! And of course once I was done, the IT Band felt almost totally normal again. Sigh.

So then I got cleaned up and made myself a post-run feast of breakfast food (the best food ever - I'm really on a breakfast food kick lately) and later went to dinner with Mr. A (who, I am proud to say, hit the 10K distance this weekend!! :yay: He's doing so great with his training and even had the elusive "runner's high" during this run on Saturday!). I felt REALLY good, just a little soreness...but then once we got home from dinner I sat on the couch for awhile (binge-watching Gilmore Girls - gotta get ready for the reboot! #TeamJess) and when I went to get up, suddenly my IT Band was KILLING me. It was totally unexpected since it had been feeling fine for the previous few hours - I guess it tightened up or something? I was incredibly upset about this...it seriously made me question every runDisney race weekend I have coming up (especially Wine & Dine and Dopey). I spent the rest of the evening rolling with a foam roller/the Stick (which will both be coming with me to Disney) and stretching.

On Sunday, thankfully, I woke up feeling almost completely normal and good enough to lift and go to yoga. :confused3

Now that I am typing this out (Monday morning) my IT Band has been pain-free since Saturday night. I'm taking today off to be safe and am hoping to run again a tomorrow (after the 10-miler and subsequent IT Band pain I took 1 day off and then ran the next day and was fine, so hopefully the same thing will happen this time) , but I'm really wondering why this happened at all. During the 10-miler I sort of assumed it was because I was putting forth more effort than I had in months, but that wasn't the case on Saturday - distance-wise, yes. Pace-wise, no. So my guess is that it was a combination of things...

  1. I needed new inserts for my shoes (I use Powersteps, which "cured" my first-ever case of Runner's Knee way back in 2009 - I'd been thinking I needed a new pair last week and forgot to buy them. I just bought a new pair this morning)
  2. I know another cause of IT Band issues can be overtraining...I'm wondering if the back-to-back-to-back was a little much for me at this point?
  3. Another cause of IT Band pain is weak hip/glute muscles - I JUST started lifting again, so maybe my muscles need to get stronger
So basically, worn-out insoles (1) with a side of just not being in the kind of shape I used to be (2 and 3). :(

Other causes of IT Band pain - worn-out shoes (I don't think that's the case here - my shoes only have 120 or so miles on them, but maybe in my case "worn out inserts" = "worn out shoes"?) and running on sloped roads (I was on sidewalks I've run on hundreds of times before with no issues, so I don't think that’s the issue).

Overall, I'm not sure what to think about my Wine & Dine weekend simulation. Right when the run was done I was feeling very confident about Wine & Dine, Dopey, etc. even though I had that IT Band pain. But later in the evening I was really wondering if I'm in over my head. Ugh! :sad2: If anything, the simulation did make me believe I can finish the Wine & Dine races (I could have walked the last 1.4 miles and made it), so I guess I should call it a success overall...but I sure hope that this pain doesn't come back!

Other thoughts from this week - I think I need to re-think my weekly schedule. I feel like what I'm doing right now may be too much for me - not running-wise (though, if the new Powersteps don't help I may have to cut back the mileage for a bit or something) but cross-training wise and how I actually have the days laid out. Basically I think I need to keep yoga at 1 day per week - or retire it completely until after Dopey (when I'm hopefully in better shape) and figure out how to lay out my days so that I have my rest day the day AFTER my long run. Just feeling a bit beat up lately. :confused3

I'll leave you with this...Mr. A sat on the couch last night to get some schoolwork done while I was stretching/foam rolling. Mr. A leaned forward to pick something up and Archie scooted in right behind him, despite having the rest of the couch available to him! :rotfl: This dog is hilarious. Also please note my SHAG/Tiki Room art on the wall! :yay:

That dog looks perturbed that Mr. A has not gotten the hint yet to move, haha!

Sorry to hear about the IT band making an appearance. I swear my body always finds some annoying thing to pop up right before race weeks for me. But hoping you are right about the shoes and back to back training because those are things that you can fiddle with to make better.

Can I steal the term "dorkbot" because even though I don't own a robot running shirt, I'm pretty sure I embody the dorkbot spirit most days :)

OMG IT'S ALMOST WINE N DINE TIME! YOU GET TO BE IN DISNEYWORLD SOON!!!!! (just in case you weren't excited enough)

He was perturbed, yes. :) Mr. A is nicer than I am, I would have moved him!

Yes, I am not a fan of this recent development. :(

Steal away!!

Honestly, the IT Band issues dampened my excitement a little bit! Hopefully I'll have pain-free runs this week and will be back to feeling properly excited!!

Archie is so cute! Both Posey and Spock (my older Chihuahua) do that too! Seriously, I'm giving you the whole rest of the couch/chair, lol!
Sorry you are having IT pain, it is the worst! I was having it pretty bad earlier in the year. I think mine is from the sloped roads. I used to run all my long runs out where I work, parking in our parking lot and running the driveway and out on the road here. The driveway is about .5 miles and is very sloped. I bought a McDaniel knee band that goes just below my kneecap and haven't had any pain since, as long as I wear it when I run. I don't know if I even need it anymore but I'm afraid to run without it now. And I'm thinking of starting my plank/squat workout again to strengthen my hips and glutes.
Yay, W&D will be here soon! I am jealous because I'm not going! Maybe next year. But so glad Mr. A get's to go with you to this weekend and run the 10k with you!

Don't give up your yoga. If nothing else, it keeps your core strong & everything else flexible, reducing the issues with your IT band.

Way to go on finishing your Wine and Dine simulation! I'm sorry to hear about the knee pain though. Hopefully it doesn't become a recurring issue for you with your Dopey training. I'm sure you'll crush it at W&D though!

And good luck to the Indians in the World Series! I'm rooting hard for them to beat the Cubs (as a Brewers fan, the Cubs are a big rival, and I also spent my college years surrounded by Cubs fans, so I cannot ever root for them). Although all of this pretty much guarantees the Indians will lose, so I apologize.

I've been binge watching Gilmore Girls too! I'm almost done with season 5, and I'm dreading the appearance of April (sorry if you're an April fan!).

I couldn't definitely seeing old inserts contributing to an IT issue. I hate when things like that are so hard to pin down! :( You're so smart to give yourself another day of rest though!

And I love seeing the pics of your cutie pie dog!!

Edited to add: I said it on instagram, but I'll say it here: you have got a great robot dance going on! Seriously though, you always so great in inknburn!

Packing List! Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend

For the races:
  • FOOD...each of the following in its own gallon Ziploc bag:
    • 5K: bagel from our favorite local place, travel-sized peanut butter, coffee creamer, plastic knife
    • 10K: 2 bagels from our favorite local place, 2 travel-sized peanut butters, coffee creamer, 2 plastic knives, 1 Salted Caramel Honey Stinger Waffle for Mr. A as a pre-race snack (he thinks they are quite delicious)
    • Half: bagel from our favorite local place, travel-sized peanut butter, coffee creamer, plastic knife, 2 Vanilla Honey Stinger Waffles
  • Disposable coffee cups with lids (4) - will make coffee in the room to take to corrals (Mr. A takes his black :crazy2: so all of those coffee creamers I mentioned above are for me)
  • Some cash, extra hair tie and a small packet of Kleenex (in small Ziploc baggie in skirt pocket during each race)
  • 4 plastic grocery bags...one for each race to help carry all of the stuff they give us in the finisher area

Love the list!!! A couple of questions and they are only to help me with my list since I've pretty much copied/pasted your packing list to be mine :) ....why do you bring the plastic knives? I don't recall 100% but I thought they would be in all the quick service locations at the resorts. That also goes with the disposable cups/lids...I thought those were in the room near the coffee machine? Do they not offer those anymore? If not, I will definitely be bringing my own. Having a cup of coffee on the bus and while waiting in the corral sounds amazing. I hate rushing thru coffee which is what would happen if I didn't have disposable cups. Third and last question is regarding the plastic bags. I have heard of someone mentioning this before but forgot about it. Will the gear bags not be big enough for the extra stuff? Bringing a grocery bag is pretty easy. I was just curious. Thanks!! I enjoyed reading thru some of your earlier training post and you have me almost convinced into buying something from inknburn. Which reminds me of another question :rolleyes1 how long are the shorts under the skirts? I typically only run in 5" inseams or longer because of rubachubchub!! Ok that's it Thanks again :flower1:

April gets a tad better and more personable once she's in college. So hang in there :)
(Also, I LOVE Gilmore Girls and was crushed when I found out they opened a day only Luke's for coffee a few weeks ago and I missed it...sad) I have all the dvds, maybe I should dust them off and binge too. Fun fact: My town has a little gazebo by the town hall/park and in my head I call it the Star's Hallow part of town.

Archie is so cute! Both Posey and Spock (my older Chihuahua) do that too! Seriously, I'm giving you the whole rest of the couch/chair, lol!
I just love dogs. They are so funny!

Me too! I did successfully run 3 miles this morning with my new inserts and NO IT Band pain!! :yay: So hopefully that was the issue!

The sloped roads are terrible - that has gotten me at Disney before and at home, so I totally know what you mean. Thanks for the knee band recommendation, if I run into issues again I may look into getting one.
Yay, W&D will be here soon! I am jealous because I'm not going! Maybe next year. But so glad Mr. A get's to go with you to this weekend and run the 10k with you!
I always feel that way about runDisney weekends I'm not participating in! :(
Don't give up your yoga. If nothing else, it keeps your core strong & everything else flexible, reducing the issues with your IT band.
When I saw the alert that you commented on my thread, I was like "I bet John is going to yell at me for the yoga comment..." and here we are. ::yes::

yeah, me too! Not happy about that IT Band acting up!

Eek, thanks! I'm SO NERVOUS!! I will take your good wishes anyway since everyone else is rooting for the Cubs (except for my BFF Tom Hanks!!).
I've been binge watching Gilmore Girls too! I'm almost done with season 5, and I'm dreading the appearance of April (sorry if you're an April fan!).
I'm gonna attempt to post a GIF here, I hope it works...re: April:

:wizard: I'm still on Season 1 - Dean and Rory just broke up for the first time! Which is okay because upon re-watching I find Dean to be annoying. So funny because when I was first watching the show I thought he was sooooo dreamy!
I couldn't definitely seeing old inserts contributing to an IT issue. I hate when things like that are so hard to pin down! :( You're so smart to give yourself another day of rest though!
The rest and new inserts seem to have helped, at least for this morning's run! Fingers crossed!
And I love seeing the pics of your cutie pie dog!!

(This is Mr. A going out for a run...and Archie wishing he would re-consider. He's never very happy when one of us leaves! Not quite as good of a picture of the dog but I still like it.)

Edited to add: I said it on instagram, but I'll say it here: you have got a great robot dance going on! Seriously though, you always so great in inknburn!
Hahahaha thanks. :upsidedow Sometimes I feel like I just stand in the same position in the same spot for every picture so I was trying to change it up a bit...
Love the list!!! A couple of questions and they are only to help me with my list since I've pretty much copied/pasted your packing list to be mine :) ....why do you bring the plastic knives? Thanks!

I bring the knives because it never occurred to me to check the QS locations until @SarahDisney mentioned it a week or two ago...:upsidedow And with the cups/lids I always forget that they're already there in the room. I guess now I feel like I want to bring both just in case. :)

They're definitely big enough...almost too big in my opinion. I don't check a gear bag at the races and the grocery bag is big enough to carry everything they give you at the finish line area, but small enough that I can put it in my skirt pocket. :thumbsup2
Depends on your size! Here is a link to their sizing charts: http://www.inknburn.com/size-chart/

So you can see size 6 and up have at least a 5" inseam. :thumbsup2 I wear a size 8 so I've got 5.5"! I still put Body Glide on just to be safe (because like you said...chub rub) but I don't really have any issues - it seems like, from what I have read from others, if you can figure out your correct size, you shouldn't have problems with the shorts moving around.
April gets a tad better and more personable once she's in college. So hang in there :)
Because she's not around as much?! :thumbsup2

It's just...they're better than a cheap plot device to break up Lorelei and Luke to create some drama, ya know? Sigh.
I saw that about the pop-up Luke's coffee shops! I read an article about one where the author went and she basically said it was a huge line and the whole thing was sort of lame but she loved it anyway.

AHH can't wait for the new episodes!! :yay:

OMG I MIXED UP PARIS AND APRIL......APRIL NARDINI IS THE WORST! I take back my dumb comment. April should have never happened!!!!!

Also, does Ben Wyatt from Parks resemble Mr. A484 a little bit to you all or is my brain just being dumb again? Probably looking through too many memes. Also April from Parks n Rec > April from Gilmore Girls.

OMG I MIXED UP PARIS AND APRIL......APRIL NARDINI IS THE WORST! I take back my dumb comment. April should have never happened!!!!!

I LOOOOOVE PARIS!! :yay: She is my favorite character!! She's annoying in the first few episodes but then she gets funnier.

That is not your brain being dumb, he does sort of resemble Mr. A (and A+ job on finding that picture)!! Maybe that's why I looooove Ben Wyatt?! :scratchin Man I miss that show.
