Interesting how our steps are so close but your mileage is 12 miles more!!

I don't know if it's because I have an Apple watch, or if it's because I'm 6'4" with long strides. My daughter has a garmin vivofit, but her miles were much lower than mine, and some days the steps were close

We tracked on our trip in May-

Day 1- 22,459- 10.63 miles EP
Day 2- 20,897- 9.89 miles AK
Day 3- 18.453- 8.73 miles MK
Day 4- 23,900- 11.31 miles EP
Day 5- 20,213- 9.57 miles MK
Day 6- 23,992- 11.35 miles HS/EP

total: 129,914 steps- 61.51 miles!

We were actually shocked, I was only 7 months post knee surgery so I was pretty pleased with how well I moved and how far we walked!

I always tell people to expect to walk 10 miles/day. Many people don't realize that. I don't routinely track it but on one trip a year ago, I tracked from the time we parked our car at DHS until we got back to the car and it was 8.9 miles, and that was only at 3:30pm - in the smallest park. A full day in any of the parks easily tops 10 miles.

Day 1 - 9,482 (Travel day)
Day 2 - 25,108 (MK in AM and Epcot in PM)
Day 3 - 30,516 (Epcot)
Day 4 - 17,295 (Pool day in morning and MNNSHP at night)
Day 5 - 29,105 (AK followed by Epcot and MK EMH)
Day 6 - 24,763 (HS)
Day 7 - 16,104 (Epcot but half day and run in the morning)
Day 8 - 20,743 (AK, Epcot and travel day home)

Not sure on mileage, but that totalled around 180K steps! It helped that we stayed at the BC and never used the boats. I also ran 3 miles a few times, but I couldn't tell you which days those were. I think Day 4 and Day 7 maybe? I thought overall we had a relaxing non-commando trip, but some of these numbers are high!

I've never kept track, but while I was there with my sister and her BF for MNSSHP he tracked his steps on his phone. We did a little Disney Springs in the afternoon and then the party from 4pm to 1am and he logged over 22,000 steps. He was in shock having been his first time to Disney. I just told him that was nothing, lol.

Day 1 - 11745
Day 2 - 20707
Day 3 - 22536
Day 4 - 20425
Day 5 - 23144
Day 6 - 12692
Day 7 - 17036
Day 8 - 25694
Day 9 - 18414

90.4 miles
172,393 Steps

Its a lot of fun to keep track.

I'm always amazed at how many steps/miles some people are able walk day after day at Disney. My feet, knees, hips, and back would never survive 7 straight days of 10+ miles a day. I keep track of my miles at Disney and my longest day ever was about 10.5 miles at Epcot -- and that included a little crisscrossing of the park. Most days we average closer to 7-8 miles. We definitely try to plan our days so that we're not constantly running from one side of the park to the other but rather make one big loop around each park, so that might help in keeping our miles down even though we spend long days in the parks.

My son and his wife used two different tracking methods on their last trip (because he's a technology geek/numbers guy) -- one GPS oriented and the other one was (calibrated) step oriented. Even though he and his wife were together the entire time and walked the exact same places, the step calculated distance was about 20-25% longer than the GPS oriented tracker. He also came back to his room some nights and retraced their steps using an online distance tracker and that was usually about the same as the GPS tracker his wife used. His theory is that the step tracker was calibrated to his "normal" stride, but a large part of the walking they did at Disney was not normal strides. There were a lot of steps taken while standing in a queue or just browsing through a gift shop that were about 1/2 the size of a normal stride. So while he felt the number of steps was probably accurate, he didn't feel like the distance calculated by those steps was accurate for that situation since many of his steps were much smaller than his average stride (though he said it's much more accurate for his every-day walking and running). Regardless of which method is more accurate, Disney vacations will always include *a lot* of walking.

Specifically bought a FitBit for our trip

January 4-8, 2016

Day 1: 15,875 - 8 miles (Travel and MK)
Day 2: 17,371 - 8.64 miles (DHS)
Day 3: 21,675 - 10.8 miles (MK)
Day 4: 19,071 - 9.49 miles (MK, EPCOT, AK)
Day 5: 20,313 - 10.1 miles (MK and Travel)

So that's more than 47 miles walked in 5 days.
That's the equivalent of walking from our home in Dallas to downtown Ft. Worth.

We typically end up at around 10-14 miles a day, our record was 16.58 in one day. This is using the built in health app on the iPhone 6, which tracks steps, stair fights and miles. We purposely make no attempt to plan fast passes geographically and often walk at least one a day between EPCOT and HS.

Most baffling part of all is that we STILL gain weight on our disney trips! Damn you Mickey Ice Cream bars, Dole Whips, etc. . . .

Day 4: 18234 steps - 9.20 miles
Day 5: 19634 steps - 10.47 miles
Day 6: 17855 steps - 8.89 miles
Day 7: 8013 steps - 3.94 miles Resort and Downtown Disney day
Day 8: 19430 steps - 9.60 miles
Day 9: 19529 steps - 9.80 miles
Day 10: 24409 steps - 12.19 miles
Day 11: 27341 steps - 13.67 miles
Driving home 2881 steps - 3.4 miles13.6213

total 119.12 miles of walking

Lots of mileage being shown and its very similar from person to person. Its fun to see how many people keep track of their walking
