US/WDW Sep/Oct 2016...All Finished

I couldn't remember if I commented on the last day and now I see that I never did.

Good for you taking off on your own. You can't waste precious time!

Love the Jaws selfie! I had never heard of that chocolate restaurant, interesting concept but I'm not sure that I would be clamouring to get there. It sucks that your lunch took so long and ate up your day.

Was that rain a precursor to the hurricane or something? Sorry you all got drenched.

Love your cute bow!
Thanks! I try to have fun with those--had one paired with each day's outfit :)

Sorry I thought you were at OKW nice re WL.
I didn't write that clearly--my bad.

The Muppets look fabulous! How fun.
It really is a fun show--you'll enjoy it.

I LOL'd at your "very serious" Buzz Lightyear face.
My mom is stiff competition and I usually lose :) Glad there aren't photos on Toy Story Mania (yet?)

How much was the early entry pass? Sounds like for one person it worked out quite well!

Breakfast looks really good, was that ham on the opposite side of the plate from the sausage?

Nice that mom let you use her FP+ to meet the princesses. Why did you stow your bags at OKW when you were staying at the WL?

I wish I had know about that Muppets show on my trip. I would have made a point to see it!

I really want to try Skippers Canteen but Fran is not so keen on that one. Nice you got some hot tub time.

I loved the Portabello soup, it was perfect! When I go back I will have the soup and the berry cobbler. Maybe another appetizer.

I'm glad your dad learns to talk to the chefs. I've heard they are very accommodating, usually.

Every minute counts :)

had never heard of that chocolate restaurant, interesting concept but I'm not sure that I would be clamouring to get there.
It is worth visiting--our problem was timing. It had just recently opened so the buzz was still really high and the crazy long lines were a result. Even if you don't eat there, the shop has some really enticing items if you love chocolate.

Was that rain a precursor to the hurricane or something?
I don't know--it was just under a week before Matthew arrived. It was definitely a lot more intense than the average Florida rain storm.

How much was the early entry pass?
I think it was around $65. I will do it again too if the opportunity is there.

was that ham on the opposite side of the plate from the sausage?
Yes--they had a plate with cheeses and different sliced meats like prosciutto and salami.

Why did you stow your bags at OKW when you were staying at the WL?
I didn't write that clearly--on our Magical Express bus, OKW was on the route of stops. Our bus left the airport with just our two families on board so we didn't wait around long.

I've heard they are very accommodating, usually.
I think they try--the chef came out at Tiffins and was able to explain what they could do to meet dad's needs.

Wow, that looks like a busy day. I am glad that everything went smoothly. I thought they had stopped the paid for early admission. From the pictures, it actually looked pretty busy, but the photos from Seven Dwarfs Mine Train are telling a different story. That alone makes the admission worthwhile.

I would have loved to see the new Muppet's show.

What a shame that your mom was unwell and that dinner was hit and miss.

Corinna

You're back to Disney! YAY! Busy morning for you too. We didn't stop at the Muppet Show even though I knew it was going and brand new. Just didn't work with timing.

Shoot about the AP dinner. We loved EVERYTHING we got there, especially the Mushroom Soup. Mmmm! But burnt brussel sprouts? Just why? There's no excuse for that. They're so bitter if not done right, you'd think they've have really paid special attention to that! Sad that you dad didn't feel comfortable talking to Chef. I know they'd have really gone out of their way to do something nice. :)

I have a hit a delay in updating--was all set to go on Saturday and my computer decided to die. Best Buy should be delivering today or tomorrow--hopefully I will be back in business for the weekend.

I am sorry that you have computer trouble. I hope that you get used to the new computer quickly.

Ugh! What a pain! I hope you get it properly sorted out!

I'm way behind right now, I'm hoping that in less than 70 hours, we are well on the way to my folks house. With 24 hours of those being sleeping hours, that's only 46 hours left to do a whole mess of chores, pack, and see Rogue One! Until Friday there will only be little phone posts from me!

I know it is practically Christmas and folks are busy with real life but I got my new computer all set up, so I'm going to go ahead and post this update.

Monday 3 October

We all overslept this morning. Our breakfast reservation at Whispering Canyon was 0730 and that is when I woke up. My moving around woke my parents and I told them we’d missed the reservation and would be charged no show fees. My mom decided no show fees were worse than paying through the nose for burnt Brussel sprouts and sent dad down to sweet talk them. Apparently it worked and when my mom and I arrived 45 minutes late, we found dad comfortably seated and drinking his coffee.

I ordered banana bread French toast with caramel sauce. Dad got an egg breakfast with potato hash. Our server, Chad, asked if we needed anything …hint, hint. I said of course my dad needs ketchup. So Chad gave the call and we got some ketchup. Then Mr. Ketchup came by the table and my dad being my dad, came out with something to the effect of “squeezing him on his biscuit.” Well this got Mr. Ketchup all excited and he started yelling, “Chad, he wants to put me on his biscuit”—he must have repeated this at the top of his lungs 4 or five times. It was hilarious—my dad is a good sport. Mr. Ketchup and I grabbed a selfie before he left.

After breakfast, mom and I caught a bus to Hollywood Studios. First stop was the Launch Bay where the Jawas were roaming about.

I wanted to see what the March of the First Order was all about so we headed out to Center Stage. Next time I will watch from the main drag—this view wasn’t great and it was really hot out at this point.

Next we used our FP+ for the Frozen Sing-a-Long. It wasn’t a straight recap and the hosts really made the show--would watch this one again.
Our last order of business before leaving was our TSMM FP+. We got to try the third track today. It was a nail biter--Mom and I were tied heading into the bonus round where, sigh…she pummeled me.

Now we needed to do a little hustling to get over to the Epcot festival center for our afternoon F&W event. We were very fortunate that there were two Friendship boats back to back at the dock. We made the second boat and were on our way. We had about 30 minutes to get to the Festival Center from the IG—meaning from one corner of the park to another plus on top of this, we were starving. We grabbed a cheese plate in Ireland and a Tipsy Laird in Scotland to share.

We made it to the Center with 5 minutes to spare, got our tickets and got in line. Turns out we didn’t need to rush since the event started 10 minutes late. The event in this case was the Mix It! Make It! Celebrate It! Demo which was being led by our friend Chef William Clark from the GF Bakery. On the menu was berrymisu with raspberries. We sat at a four top in the back by a video screen where a friendly young woman joined us. This is probably the closest I get to a kitchen—everything was mis en place and no baking required! I got a shout out by Chef Bill. There was one hiccup as one of the ingredients hadn’t been placed on the tables so the event ran a little longer than usual.

After the demo we said hi to Chef Bill and upon exiting, we each received a mini bamboo cutting board.

We stopped to look at the chocolate displays in Ghiradelli’s and I purchased a drinking chocolate sample. This was super rich—I’m not a big chocolate fan but I wanted to cross it off my F&W passport.

I had plans that evening to catch the Main Street Electrical Parade—would be my last opportunity to see it before its WDW retirement. Mom said she was up for it so off we went. We were at the boat dock at 7:35 and there was already a sizable line—we were aiming for the 9:00 parade so seemed like plenty of time. The boat finally came at 8:15—it was pulling double duty with Fort Wilderness so we headed that way next. We are telling ourselves we can still make it at this point…but no…the boat now had to go back to Wilderness Lodge to drop someone off who got on at Fort Wilderness. There were several disgruntled passengers on the boat at this point—my mom and I could only laugh about it. What else can you do?—we’re at Disney.

After an hour on the boat, we finally made it to MK where, due to rain sprinkles, the parade had started early. Time to think on our feet—my mom said she was okay waiting for the 1100 parade. It is one she’s always liked. We were funneled down the main Street bypass and decided to eat dinner at the Plaza Inn. Three cheers for walk-ups. We were given a table near the entrance with a partial view of the castle. While we munched on plaza fries and a fried green tomato sandwich, we could partially see Celebrate the Magic.

We paid our check with five minutes until fireworks. We were able to squeeze under the rope at the end of Main Street—slightly obstructed view due to Mickey bunting but eventually cast members removed the rope and we could step out on the sidewalk to watch the finale. Immediately after, the first wave of mass exodus from the park began. We maneuvered upstream until we reached the hub gardens. Here it was clear and we could enjoy the beauty of the castle. We had a perfect view of the Celebrate the Magic show.

We headed back towards the train station to find a parade viewing spot close to the exit. The curb side spots were already very full. We found enough room at the edge of the tape border by a walkway with great front row viewing. Since the parade started in Main Street, it was easy to slip out of the park after the last float passed.

Wishing all my wonderful DIS friends a Very Merry Christmas!

Wow what a fun action packed day! That was great that you made your breakfast at WCC. Lovely photos.

Love the Jawa photo! That Star Wars parade is great re first order. I was impressed by that. Love the Frozen simgalong.

EPCOT looked great. Got to love those boats but annoying that detour! Goad you got there the event looked great. Yummy food.

How nice to get the Plaza in the eveing plus the show. Oh my those chocolate creations!

Great photos and update thanks.

Our breakfast reservation at Whispering Canyon was 0730 and that is when I woke up.

Oh no!

Apparently it worked and when my mom and I arrived 45 minutes late, we found dad comfortably seated and drinking his coffee.

I am glad that your dad managed to fix this. Breakfast looked nice.

I wanted to see what the March of the First Order was all about so we headed out to Center Stage. Next time I will watch from the main drag—this view wasn’t great and it was really hot out at this point.

What a shame that your viewing spot did not work out. We will have our first Season of the Force at Disneyland Paris from the beginning of January to end of March and I cannot wait to see the March of the First Order.

We had about 30 minutes to get to the Festival Center from the IG—meaning from one corner of the park to another plus on top of this, we were starving. We grabbed a cheese plate in Ireland and a Tipsy Laird in Scotland to share.

Wow, that sounds like some speedy legwork, especially with stopping at two kiosks as well.

Turns out we didn’t need to rush since the event started 10 minutes late.

Isn't that always the way?

That looks absolutely amazing.

Looks like the evening worked out rather nicely despite all the mishaps.

Corinna

I know it is practically Christmas and folks are busy with real life but I got my new computer all set up, so I'm going to go ahead and post this update.

Well now that I'm at my parent's house, I don't have nearly as many responsibilities (just cooking and Mom helps with that), plus Fran doesn't feel as guilty sleeping most of the day, so I have time to catch up and post on my own TR!

sent dad down to sweet talk them. Apparently it worked and when my mom and I arrived 45 minutes late, we found dad comfortably seated and drinking his coffee.

I've heard at DL that as long as you check in sometime that day after your reservation time, it doesn't count as a no show. I'm glad it worked out for you.

Well this got Mr. Ketchup all excited and he started yelling, “Chad, he wants to put me on his biscuit”

It looks like you got the same Mr. Ketchup as we did!

After breakfast, mom and I caught a bus to Hollywood Studios. First stop was the Launch Bay where the Jawas were roaming about.

Cool! Nice shots with the Jawas!

We had about 30 minutes to get to the Festival Center from the IG

Yikes! That's not a lot of time!

The event in this case was the Mix It! Make It! Celebrate It! Demo which was being led by our friend Chef William Clark from the GF Bakery.

I'll have to read more about this event. I saw another one where they frosted cupcakes and then drank boozy milk shakes. I like the idea of boozy milkshakes, but I like the looks of your dessert better.

Pam, the moderator, was quite the talker.

I have heard this before.

Sweet results!

So was that a trifle?

We stopped to look at the chocolate displays in Ghiradelli’s and I purchased a drinking chocolate sample.

I got the drinking chocolate, but I wished that I had taken the time to look at the displays. I pretty much forgot to look at them.

we were aiming for the 9:00 parade so seemed like plenty of time.

This does not bode well.

decided to eat dinner at the Plaza Inn. Three cheers for walk-ups. We were given a table near the entrance with a partial view of the castle. While we munched on plaza fries and a fried green tomato sandwich, we could partially see Celebrate the Magic.

Nice! There are lots of sandwiches there on the menu which look really good!

We found enough room at the edge of the tape border by a walkway with great front row viewing. Since the parade started in Main Street, it was easy to slip out of the park after the last float passed.

Good strategy. Less than a month until the parade opens here. They are having a passholder event to see it first, but didn't sound like $95 worth to me.

So was that a trifle?
It is a play on tiramisu--using berries to make a berrymisu...

Tuesday 4 October

I was heading out solo this morning on a World Showcase DestiNations Discovered tour. A few friendly amphibious friends joined me at the bus stop.

After a bit of a treasure hunt, I found the check-in area and met our guide, Ray. It was practically a personalized tour since only two of us were signed up this morning. We were given our name tags and bottled water before setting out. We started by the Fountain—initially christened with water from around the world. Stood in the center of Walt’s original E.P.C.O.T. property (the model as partially seen on the Peoplemover), highlighted here by the Epcot Center symbol.

We started in the Mexico pavilion. Ray pointed out the 1st of 6 museum quality art galleries. He also shared that the Three Caballeros animatronics came from the Magic Kingdom opening in Toyko. He shared a bunch of other details but I just can’t remember them all (like the stories in the wall carvings)—sorry, poor memory but it ups the repeatability factor.

Walking towards Norway, we could see the wedding carriage in China where a wedding photo shoot was taking place. Fortunately it moved on before we needed to get there—if not, we would have had to adjust our tour.
In Norway, we went backstage for the first time. Keeping track of the art galleries, the Stave Church is #2. (This is also where I first spotted Remy—I thought this hunt was going to be a piece of cake, but Hurricane Matthew would change that soon enough).

When we were visiting Italy, Ray shared one of his surprises with us. He had VIP Illumination viewing passes for us and our family members. This viewing is to the right of the poles seen in the picture below. As a bonus, since my father wasn’t planning on using one of his 4 ticket days today, he also arranged for a complementary park ticket just for him. Ray = awesome!

We reached our halfway point at The American Adventure—Ray pointed out various details: the acoustic rotunda, a magical roving eye picture in the atrium area as well as gallery #4.

In Japan, Ray took us by the kidcot station where we each got a country card with our names written in Japanese. The current exhibit in gallery #5 focused on Japan’s Cute Culture (think along the Hello Kitty lines).

I asked Ray about this guy hiding in the shrubs—actually stumped him. He didn’t know it was there—his guess was that represents the Monkey King (as told in the holidays around the world show).

On to Morocco, home of the 6th and final gallery. We received another name sample here as well. Ray told us how all the beautiful craftsmanship is intentionally marred by the craftsmen because, from a religious perspective, only God can create perfection. The dents, scratches and missing tiles are all purposefully placed.

We went backstage again in France—Ray talked a lot about perspective all throughout the World Showcase. The Eiffel tower is coated with a sticky substance that deters the birds from camping out on it.

Now time for lunch—today we were eating at the Rose & Crown. Our meal included an app to share, entrée and dessert. It was all delicious—scotch egg, shepherd’s pie and sticky toffee pudding.

We went backstage here as well—were given FP+ for Soarin for our whole party (so I got three). We walked through 4 centuries of décor/architecture as we progressed through the continuous UK shops.
Took a peek backstage in the World Showplace—built for the millennium celebration and now great space for events like party for the senses and character training.

Our final country was Canada where we had our last backstage glimpse.

Ray gave us each our special tour pin and we said our good byes.

I picked up a root beer float at the Desserts & Champagne kiosk and found a seat in the relative shade.

I waited for them by the photo pass shop near the entrance—as timing would have it, the skies opened up for their daily rains. We pushed through the deluge to drop dad off at the DVC Lounge—then mom and I went to knock out FP+’s at Soarin and Nemo. This was the first time seeing the new Soarin—my impression: I liked the transitions better, the CGI contribution was definitely more obvious, sat in center so didn’t really see distortion.

On our way back to pick up dad, mom picked up her F&W gift card. It was time for some sampling.

Greenhouse Guru—tomato gazpacho (meh), duck confit (ok once I sorted out the fatty chunks—polenta always a thumbs up from me).

Moseyed over to Italy to wait out the rest of the evening prior to Illuminations.

Mom and I looked in all the shops in Germany and Italy. The VIP section was cordoned off at 7:30. As is human nature, the family already in there was trying to save space along the whole front rail. So mom and I left our Italy benches and went to claim some rail real estate of our own. One could see the stage for The Chew tapings across the lagoon.

Overall, the viewing was a great view. However, Illuminations is probably my current least favorite night show (heresy to some I’m sure). So with the drain of a really long night and what felt like a really long trek back to the front of the park and the buses, unless I am staying at an Epcot resort, I might skip on this particular VIP perk if the opportunity presents itself again.
