TMZ reporting a child injured when Pluto hugged him

Oh wow. How sad for the kid. I think things could have been handled better by the park staff itself, I honestly wouldn't be surprised if she does sue. That being said, they handled everything very well after the incident with offering to pay the hospital bill and a nice dinner.

I can't see the video, but accidents happen and he could have done something to hurt him especially if he is heard cryinout right away. That said we live in a world where sadly they have to be careful and almost unapologetic because they are then admitting fault, but also anger the parents more with this tactic. I doubt he suffered any permanent damage and could probably remedy it with tickets and a hotel stay, but if they are looking for a payout will probably get one in this sue happy world. I just don't get that mentality.

I have seen Characters do that same exact sort of hug many of times. Tigger has actually hugged me that way before when I was younger. I never would want any kid to get hurt, but I also want the characters to be able to hug the kids if they want a hug.

I watched the video, and I'm surprised at how Pluto picked him up. It's hard to tell from the angle, but I could potentially see how his spine might have been arched at an unusual angle when Pluto first grabbed him. If his back isn't that flexible it might have hurt.

not at all our experience at Disneyland some years ago when dd got a minor injury from a cast member. minute they became aware of it 'the suits' (2 or 3 managers) were dispatched to where we were. they offered to bring one of their med people over or if we preferred they offered a wheelchair to take her to the first aide area (didn't need it-it was a hand injury). med staff looked at it, but they don't diagnose so they offered an opinion. told us to keep ice on it (we had already been given a massive bag of it when the suits came running). asked if we felt the need to get outside treatment immediately (didn't), then were given a business card and told if we felt the need to seek outside treatment to give the info. to the treating doctor/facility and they would cover it. they did an accident report, and gave us a copy. when we got home a few days later there was a follow up phone call from the suit who gave us his card, and when we said we were going to just have her pediatrician take a look at it we were reminded to give the billing info. Disney paid it, did another follow up call to see how dd was feeling.

we had no interest in suing. they covered the costs and dd was fine. thought it was a very nice gesture when they sent us 4 multi day passes w/ a note to dd that they wanted her to come back and visit again.

That hug did look like it could've hurt, but what mom puts their kid on video talking about their injury? One who is looking for some money? And she takes a video of the nurse examining her son. What was the point of that, if not looking for a lawsuit?

My daughter was accidentally bonked on the head by Pluto's snout when he went to hug her. His handler came over to her and asked if she was OK and she said yes, but when we were walking away she told me that it did hurt. My first thought was to make sure she was alright, not whip out my phone to record her telling me about it.

ITA with brookmey. Maybe the mom is a lawyer, cop, or forensic scientist?

I swear Piglet at Crystal Palace was someone's great aunt. I haven't been hugged like that since my great aunt grabbed me and squeezed me when I was little.

It does look like a set up for getting money to me. I sure hope it gets seen as that and they don't get a dime from Disney.

Hmmm... something definitely smells fishy then. I haven't been able to view the video yet (at work ), but I did think it was strange to say that the kid was refused a wheelchair. :confused3

That kid was coached. There's no way that mom just happened to be taping him at the exact moment he became that dramatic.

I'm not saying that Pluto didn't hug him hard, but that video seems awfully staged.

While I think suing for this incident is absolutely ridiculous, I think pluto was a little rougher than he should have been. You can tell the kid's back gets arched in a weird way. He probably strained a muscle, which can really hurt. I don't suspect it was setup but that the parents jumped all over the opportunity after this happened.

It's pathetic. When I watched the video, I saw ZERO indication in the immediate aftermath that the kid was injured in any way. He doesn't cry out AT ALL. Nothing. Even a smile on his face. And his arms reaching back for Pluto.

Now, I don't doubt that he may have felt a bit sore afterwards, but heck, I feel sore after a long walk too. Can I sue someone please? LOL.

The whole video tape of him moaning and groaning was too much for me. And, smells of being "staged" (and coached) by someone.

Sigh.

The really sad thing is Pluto faces problems behind the scenes. Maybe a talking to, maybe some kind of disciplinary action, whatever it is it will go in his CM file. I don't believe this family for a second.

Way to go TMZ with the slow motion and roaring lion sound

a character is never supposed to pick a child up!

even if its a baby they cannot be held by a character. instead a parent has to hold the child or the character has to sit down and the baby can sit on their lap.

so pluto scooping the child up sends out a red flag already and it did seem pretty forceful to me and like a child could get hurt if not prepared to be picked up like that.

sure the kid may have been coached but honestly it didn't seem like it to me.

personally i feel that characters at disneyland are not very good to begin with.
i had a terrible interaction with minnie during the disney visa meet n greet.
you could tell by her mannerisms that she did not want to be there and it made for a lousy pic cuz you could tell that we were not happy even though we were trying to look it.
