Well âÂÂGood Morning Walt Disney World !!! Are you ready for me, because I sure as heck am ready for you !!âÂÂ
I am one of those pathetic people that gets up at 5:00 am and expects the rest of the world to be up too. So I was a little miffed when I discovered that the Roaring Forks was no longer open 24 hrs/day and now opens at 6:00 am. No coffee for a whole hour? How will I survive? Just donâÂÂt talk to anyone Linda and youâÂÂll be OK.
Our room, even though not facing the MK, is overlooking the incredible lobby and we are eye level with the top of the Christmas tree. What a wonderful sight to behold when you open that door first thing in the morning. Because we were on the sixth floor, excessive sound was never a problem. The only noise we heard the whole time we were there, was the joyful noise of various choral groups that performed in the lobby.
Well after killing some time and getting our refillable mugs (wore out our old ones), the gang met up at Artist Pointe and checked in at the podium for our character breakfast with Pooh and the guys. I was a little apprehensive about SydneyâÂÂs reaction to the characters. After all, they are a little larger than the stuffed ones on her bed. Well Tigger was the first to come over and Sydney was so excited and just hugged and kissed away. Meanwhile, Holly and I are wiping our tears away. We are both extremely emotional and cry over anything joyful. Heck, I cry during Hallmark card commercials. Anyway, one by one, Tigger, Pooh and Eeyore (pronounced Eeenore by Sydney) came by to visit. The breakfast was delicious. Scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, potatoes and lots of breakfast breads. The service was attentive and very friendly. I would highly recommend this character breakfast.
After stuffing ourselves, we walked to the bus stop to catch a bus for Animal Kingdom. We had not seen this park and were very anxious to check it out. The wait at the bus stop was minimal, maybe 10 minutes. This was to be the case throughout our whole trip.
One quick note here folks: I was determined not to let this become a commando trip. I wanted to walk slowly, admire little details and not kill ourselves to get all the attractions in. I wanted everyone to enjoy themselves and not have any meltdowns. I was semi-successful.
Upon arriving at Animal Kingdom, Chuck made sure he got a park map. You see, my husband is a map fanatic. He has to have a map for everything. âÂÂNo sense asking for directions when itâÂÂs all written down on a mapâ he says. OK, I love ya anyway baby.
Though not completely overwhelmed with this park, I do like several areas. The Tree of Life is spectacular and we could have spent hours studying it. The Pangiani Trail with the gorillas was fascinating. We walked on Kali River Rapids (fun and very wet) and the Kilamanjaro Safari (OK attraction, not great)
I was fortunate enough to see the Lion King on Broadway this year and was looking forward to seeing the Festival of the Lion King. Excellent performance, the principal singers were terrific.
We spent a lot of time just wandering and admiring animal displays. The bird aviary is wonderful. As time was slipping rapidly (do they have fast clocks in WDW or what?) we decided to leave and come back another day to do Tarzan Rocks and Dinosaur.
Back to the hotel for a little R&R. We will be going to MK this evening to watch the Main Street Electrical Parade. Something in all the years IâÂÂve been going to WDW, IâÂÂve never seen.
We arrived at MK and decided to stake out a viewing spot in Frontierland and then go in search of food. With the help of a very nice lady who was an expert on parade viewing in WDW we laid claim to our ground and Holly and I went on the quest for sustenance. Holly was craving turkey legs (did I mention she was expecting no.2?) and I went off to Pecos BillâÂÂs. We got hamburgers and hot dogs with all the trimmings. Very impressed with the toppings bar. Made our way back through the throngs (excuse me, pardon me, hot food and a pregnant woman coming through !!) and waited for the parade to begin.
Wow am I glad we staked out our spot early, people started getting a little pushy towards showtime. All in all it was well worth the wait. MSEP is beautiful !!! Love that music and the little noises the ladybugs and snails make.
As we headed out of MK we decided to stop on the little bridge leading from the back side of the Crystal Palace over to Liberty Square and watched Tinkerbell make her flight (I want that job !). The fireworks are a special concern for my map loving DH as he is the pyrotechnics guru for our local July 4th fireworks production. His dream is to connect up with the pyrotechnical people at WDW and get a retirement job. His mantra throughout our whole trip was âÂÂI gotta find out how to do this stuffâÂÂ.
Well, (yawn) letâÂÂs head back to WL, have our nightly visit to the Territory Lounge and call it an evening.
