Friday Dec 8th, Saturday Dec 9th, Sunday Dec 10th, Monday Dec 11th

We were up by 6:00 today. We headed to Beach's and Cream for breakfast. We will miss the Beach Club.

Today is a Holy Day for Catholics, so after we get checked out we head over to Mary, Queen of the Universe Shrine. Mass is at 9:00 and we arrive a little early. We hit the gift shop and pick a few things up. When DH and I were at Disney in 95 we came to mass here. It is very pretty and is run solely through donations. I recommend a visit! :)

After mass we head out on the Florida turnpike to Delray Beach. It is about a 3 hour drive.

We arrive safely at teh Marriot Delray. This was a VERY nice hotel! My Mom and Dad had stayed here when it used to be a Holiday Inn. A few years ago they added on and remodeled. It was fancier than the Beach Club! A big plus with this hotel is that it is right across AIA from the beach. It took less than 5 minutes to walk from our room to the beach! :) Some of my Mom's friends joined us for dinner at the hotel. We all went to bed early.

Sat 12/9
My Mom spent the day with old friends, and Robin, Alex and I enjoyed the day together.

One of Robin's goals this trip was to get some citrus fruit. My Mom's friend suggested Blood's Hammock Groves right in Delray. Robin ordered some friut to be shipped to our home back in Minnesota. We were able to see how the fuit gets processed which was quite interesting!

Since we used to live in Boca, I wanted to drive by my old high school. I also had Robin drive us past my old house. It was weird because the current owner was in the front yard. It still felt like "our" house.

We next hit Town Center Mall. This is a great mall with good selection (Tiffiny's, Cartier, Cache, etc..), But many of the offerings were above our budget. ;) Plus we have mall of america back home! :D

We headed back to the hotel and decided to spend some time on the beach. We then spent some time in the pool. Alex had a blast! The weather had been so cold in Orlando, we never did swim in stormalong bay. It was in the 80's in Delray.

We decided to order room service. While we were eating we could hear loud reggae (sp?) music. There was a convention at the hotel and they were having some sort of cocktail hour before their dinner. They were all by the pool and the band was playing. We had a first floor pool side room, so Alex and I went out on our little patio and danced. After a while we all three curled up on some deck chasie lounges and listened to the music. Alex enjoyed his pooh light up spining toy my Mom bought him. This was a magical day for us.

Sunday 12/10

We went to church, had breakfast, then my Mom and me hit the mall again! We did some serious power shopping! :D

We headed back to the hotel by way of AIA which is parallel to the beach. Along the stretch from Boca to Delray there are about 30+ mansions. I saw in the paper one for sale for over 12 million! My Mom's friend said that many of the people who own them use them just a few weeks or months a year! For that money you could live in a disney hotel every night! :D

We made it home and finished the packing. We watched the weather channel and started to worry that we would have trouble making it home during the anticipated snow storm!

Monday 12/11
We were scheduled to leave West Palm at 9:40 am. We were up early and on our way. There was a large truck accident on I-95 that morning. Luckily it was in the south bound lane. The tracffic on that side was completely stopped for miles. Our side had the gawker slow down.

We arrived to the airport and learned Northwest only has 2 fights out of that airport a day! We made our way to the gate. They were unsure if we would take off since we were headed for Detroit. We finally left 30 minutes behind schedule. Our layover in Detroit is only an hour so I am hoping we can make up the time in the air!

We arrive in Detroit 15 minutes behind schedule. Luckily the gate we need is only 100 feet away from the gate we arrived into.

We boarded our connecting flight and waited, and waited. After about 30 minuted we taxi out to be de-iced. There are 11 planes ahead of us. We wait, and wait. Now it's just 5 planes ahead of us. We wait, and wait. Yeah it's our turn to be de-iced. They de-ice and de-ice, and de-ice some more. An HOUR latter they give up. We have now been on the tarmak 2 hours! It ends up that Detriot is experinceing freezing rain. We wait another 2 hours before we finally get to take off! We were supposed to arrive in Mpls at 2:30 pm, and we get there about 6:45!

The good news was that Alex was a trooper! We were on planes a total of 8 hours! People on the plane were telling Robin and me what great parents we are. We were like no. It was just a miracle. Alex can't even sit through church let alone 8 hours in a small seat on a plane!!

Needless to say we were very thankful to be home safely! :)

I am already planing our next Disney trip. However, I don't think we will be going back until Dec of 2002.

But at least I have some GREAT memories and the DIS to get me through the wait!

If you stuck it through all 7 parts of my trip report, THANK YOU! :) I enjoyed sharing my memories with you. I know when we were planning this trip, the trip reports were the most valuable information for me. It helped to to gage how long everything would take and the reports gave me new ideas for things to try.

I hope I didn't forget anything as I wrote these. I had big plans of keeping notes during the trip. I even bought a special notepad to do just that. Well, I ended up too tired at the end of each day. So all of these reports are from memory. I also appologize for my lack of spelling skills. I have been writing these non-stop this afternoon with out a break and my eyes are strating to cross!

My husband has been asking for 2 hours, are you done YET?!?

If you have any questions, I will try to answer them! :)

Thanks for reading!

Melissa

Thank you, Melissa, for the excellent report. I think you're right about getting two rooms for more privacy. After being around so many people in the parks all day, I think we need some alone time. Your story about getting your mom to try Beverly reminded me of my trip last year with my family. My son and I plotted to " trick " my dad into trying the " delicious " stuff, and when he tasted it my dad said, Hmmm...this would make an excellent before dinner drink. He loved it! We were so disappointed. :)

I really enjoyed reading your reports. As a southerner I would have been scared to death with all that deicing going on. I'm glad you made it home safe and sound. Thanks for posting :D

I read your entire report and was glad to see there was a lot more ecstasy than agony. When I first saw the title of the subject I thought you were going to report on some really bad things. Not many people will take the time to write out such a detailed report. It probably took you hours to do. Thanks for posting your experience.

Very nice trip report. Glad you enjoyed your trip. We too go to Disney with the Grandparents so I understand the too much togetherness route. We rent a house offsite, having the extra space ensures it works for us.

I made it all the way through (except for day 5) and thououghly enjoyed reading all about your trip. I too am glad there was not too much agony.

I think everyone should end a WDW vacation with a fews days of rnr on the beach. :D

Thanks for taking the time to share your trip with us. :)

Thank you all for your nice comments! I'm glad you enjoyed the report! Sorry for all the spelling errors! My DH read the reports after I posted them and her pointed them ALL out to me.

LisaTx, I don't know why you couldn't see part 5. I show it on my screen. :( I did have computer issues yesterday which might have affected the postings.

Melissa :)

Nice report Melissa. I know what you mean about the separate rooms. My fiance and I shared a Fort Wilderness Cabin with my parnets this past Feb and while we had separate rooms we really also needed separate bathrooms and some private space. No amount of money rationalizing changes anything. Next time it will be 2 rooms for us!!

Had to laugh about comment on separate rooms - last trip with my parents we were in separate houses - they stayed with the relations and dd and I stayed at empty grandma's house. Thanks for posting!

Blue Skies, Thanks again for the Trip Reports. :)
