hi. we are thinking of flying into Vegas and driving from there to DLR. What are some family friendly things to do in Vegas ?

We stayed in Vegas for one night on our way home from Disneyland last December. I was not impressed, and will not go back with kids.

We got a really great rate at Circus Circus, but the room felt old, run-down, and not all that safe, though we were fine. I just didn't like the feel. Included with our room, we got a coupon book that included 2 free arcade games. We also watched one of their free circus act shows, I believe they take place every 30 minutes. We saw a trapeze act, but the performers looked bored and like they were just going through the motions. I think the kids enjoyed it, though.

My overall impression of Vegas (it was my first time there) was not great. It just seemed dirty, and smelled like stale cigarette smoke on top of cheap perfume.

I am going back in March for a girl's trip, staying at Planet Hollywood this time, and hope to have a much better experience.

All in all, I'd say if we were going to attempt with kids again, we'd spend more money to be in a newer, more updated area.

See the Bellagio fountains at night.

See the Volcano eruption at the Mirage.

See the Penn and Teller magic show at the Rio.

Go to Hoover Dam.

Just don't drive from SoCal to LV on a Friday evening or from LV to SoCal on a Sunday!!!

:wizard:

Our girls enjoyed the Adventuredome at Circus Circus, and an old west town (I can't remember the name - it was maybe a half-hour drive). We also did the Shelby museum and factory tour there (my kids didn't enjoy it, but my FIL and I did). They also liked the Bellagio fountains and the lion exhbit at the MGM.

We're driving to Tahoe and stopping over in Vegas next summer, DD6 has requested a stop at the Adventuredome.

We did this last year only LV was our main trip and we drove to Anaheim for a day at DL. We stayed at the Monte Carlo. Nice clean rooms. Not sure how old your kids are but we do a lot of casino hopping just to see how fabulous some of the casinos are.

- Christmas display inside Bellagio
- Roller coaster at New York New York
- The Forum shops at Caesar's
- Titanic exhibit at Luxor

I live just outside of Vegas...so here is a locals perspective...

Don't walk the strip with the kids. Too many drunks and smut peddlers. Drive to and from the casinos you want to visit. Some family friendly things: the conservatory at Bellagio, Dolphin Habitat at the Mirage, Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay, Tournament of Kings at Excalibur, gondola at the Venetian, wax museum also at the Venetian, the Fashion Show mall has a fun new Disney Store, M&M world. Off strip you can visit Red Rock, Ethel M Chocolate Factory and cactus garden has a beautiful, free Christmas light display, McKee Ranch is fun, the new children's museum...lots of family stuff!
Also, avoid Circus Circus! Its just nasty. Especially comparing it to Disney!

Planet Hollywood will be light years ahead of Circus Circus! That whole end of the Strip is pretty grungy!

I'm not surprised at your impression. Circus Circus has to be the very worst place to stay in Vegas, now that Imperial Palace has been remodeled and re-branded as The Quad. If you'd stayed anywhere else, your impressions would likely have been very different.

We are spending three nights in LV after the Anaheim portion of our holiday next year.

We were advised to avoid LV at the weekend with kids (also accommodation is a lot more expensive).

Because there are eight of us travelling together (two families) we got two interconnecting suites at Signature at MGM Grand, another plus for us is that it isn't actually a casino (although it has a a walkway through to the MGM grand).

The Signature is a lovely place! Nice choice! And yes, best to avoid weekends with kids! Definitely can get too rowdy on the Strip!

Plus the pools don't seem to be as crowded and have less of a party atmosphere.

Yay, thank you, it is always good to have positive feedback for what we have booked :)
