For Royal Caribbean cruises, are birth certificates required even if you have a passport??

Not that I am aware of. Being Canadian, we've always brought our passports and have not been asked once for a birth certificate.

If you have a valid passport you are good to go. The cruise lines do not set the documentation requirements. That is set the various countries you visit, Homeland Security and Border and Customs Control for cruises leaving from the US

Have never taken a birth certificate, only passports and our IDs.

Passports are fine. if you are only cruising through the Caribbean/Canada you can also choose to use a Passport Card instead; which is a less expensive to obtain that the Passport Book
