Can anyone provide up to date info regarding the use of non USA disability permits/acrod parking

Mine is Australian but do I need to apply for a local one

You may apply for a temporary disabled parking permit through our office if you will be visiting our state from another country. To receive the disabled parking permit by mail before your trip, please provide the following for the disabled individual:



· A copy of your valid parking placard/badge (front and back)

· A copy of your valid passport including the picture and biography page (not the visa)

· Your home address and telephone number

· The temporary address you will use while staying in Florida

· The date of your arrival and departure

$15.00 in US Funds -- Money order, check, or debit/credit card (American Express, Discover or MasterCard) is acceptable. There is a 2.5 % service fee if using credit or debit card. (If you wish to mail a check or money order, please make payable to Patsy Heffner, CFC) Unfortunately, as of May 1, 2009, we NO LONGER ACCEPT VISA.

I just made a copy of mine and put it it on the dashboard, then carried the original in the glovebox of the rental car incase there was a question. The permits are pretty much universally respected because no one yet has been able to argue that a person's disability disappears when they're on vacation, regardless of how far that might take them from home. I only displayed the copy because my car was once broken into and the placard stolen. Of course, you have to figure out a way to remember not to heave the permit behind when your vacation is over and you're packing to return home. I never thought that spending my precious vacation time standing in a permit line in Orlando was an appropriate vacation activity.

If you have one issued from another us state you will be fine if it from another country you have to get a temporary US parking badge for international visitors. sorry for so much info and links i just want to make sure you get the right info so you don't get a 250 ticket have fun on your trip and hopes this helps.

A copy of the visitor’s current out-of-country parking permit.

Proof of identification such as a passport or comparable identification to verify ownership of the out-of-country parking permit. A Florida driver license or ID card is not required.

FEES: A temporary Permit may be issued up to 6 months: $15.00 regardless of the number of days for which it is issued. No subsequent permit is allowed.

GENERAL INFORMATION:

The permit will be issued for up to four years. Additional permits are issued with the same expiration date as the initial permit regardless of when the additional permit is issued.

EXPIRATION DATE: Permits issued to disabled persons will expire on the owner's birthday. Permits issued to an organization will be issued for four years and expire on June 30th. Temporary permits are not to exceed 6 months.

DISPLAY: The permit must be hung on the rear view mirror of any vehicle used to transport the disabled person(s). The permit number must be visible from the front of the vehicle.

Handicapped parking permits from one state in the United States are recognized as valid in every other state in the US (each state passed a law agreeing to honor the permits from other states).

Parking Permits from other countries are another thing entirely though.

The laws are not totally clear - the things cited already may be only for people visiting for longer periods. The law is not clear.
Shorter stays may depend on whether your country has an agreement with the US to honor each other's handicapped parking permits. This law has been interpreted both ways by people - that visitors with a permit issued by a foreign country can park with their permit or that they can park if their country also has agreed to recognize the parking permit issued by Florida as valid.
At very least, your parking permit must include the international symbol of disability ( a blue wheelchair symbol)

You will need your placard and passport not sure about any form sorry son may be if you call they could explain the process and what you need better. I just want to make sure you have the best and right info so your trip can be the best it can.

Here a list if email address to could write to I would pick the top two ine the head of it and the other is the tags department I tried ti find a 1-800 number so you wouldn't have to pay to call but they didn't so figured the email address is tr next best thing.

Here a great article on how to mail it in I know it says uk but it alply to everyone outside the us. This is for the next county over from orange county it really dose not matter which county it is their a mailing adress for orange county so if you email them thu could tell to to mail it to them or you can do it in person.

I would try the top two and let them know what you need if nothing then try the other ones and say you have been tring to get in contact with someone.

The point about a person required to have a Florida Driver's License is someone who has resided in Florida for more than 30 days. So if you are just visiting from another state or country you can use your regular tag.

we are from the UK so I imagine coming over from Australia would be similar. we were told that disney are ok with us using our UK disabilty badge but outside of that the vehicle would get towed away so not worth the risk.
we have just renewed ours again, you need to email over copy of both sides of your parking permit and passport, it is $15 for each permit
