October 2016....yes we're going to Disney "again"

Planning Itinerary - Take 2 (Part 1)!

Alright...planning is getting more important because we can make ADRs in about 2 weeks! I forgot to mention up in the "lemons and lemonade" post that in addition to those other changes, I received notification that our flight times had changed...we're now not getting in to Orlando until 9:14 p.m. as opposed to 7:30 p.m., so that affected our first day in the park plans too since it will be a late night on travel day. With the changes in resort plans, plane times, and the preliminary crowd calendar now available here's what we're planning!

Friday, October 14th - TRAVEL DAY!

Friday, October 21st - Animal Kingdom Morning, POP mid-day break, MNSSHP - I will fill out more details about this plan later when more is known about MNSSHP for this year, but in general, we're going to do our favorites at Animal Kingdom in the morning, head back to POP Century to take a break and get our costumes on, and then head to MNSSHP for entry at 4:00 p.m. Because AK is the most recommended park that day and we are going in the morning, we are not going to use FP+ there and will instead save them for the 4-7 time frame at MNSSHP and MK. We also aren't going to do any ADRs this day, so nothing to worry about as far as scheduling those go!

We are going in October too and I can say with no doubt that you are way more organized than I am at this point. I am just procrastinating everything- I hope I start getting more serious once the fall discounts come out and I know where we are staying. We like to do like you are and make sure we have a good mix of new things and old favorites. It's fun to see the parks as the kids age- it's always a new experience then.

Pros and cons I guess because I fully anticipate plans changing once there's more info about hoe Epcot openings, new Star Wars stuff, and new AK night offerings affects the crowds! I am also keeping my eye out for fall room discounts and we may move to a moderate depending on what those look like!

You will be there about the same time we are. We have our plans made out as well but I'm sure as more things change/start/are announced, I'll be re-arranging again.

Hi! I've enjoyed reading your PTR so far. It's just me and my DS12 and we go to Disney 1-2 times a year so I totally get you! :) and we're also going in October. staying at AKL sounds amazing! Dontcha love those preferred pool view rooms at Pop??? We did that one trip and it felt like the main building was in our backyard!

Following along! Great start! We'll be going in September, and I also have a lot pre-planned and mapped out, but like you, will probably have to re-arrange once new attractions and hours are announced and updated. Not sure if I should be worried or excited about having to re-arrange what already seems like forever to 'perfectly' map out...oh and there's the weather :worship::rolleyes1

Loving this thread so far! Makes me more motivated to get our itinerary set for our mid-September trip! ADRs are done, so the rest is just plugging in. I'm ready to see those AK hours update too!

MORE UPDATES! - RESORT CHANGE, ITINERARY CHANGE, COSTUME UPDATES!

Okay - so I keep making changes, and I haven't updated this thread in a long time! Things have been rather crazy at work with the end of the semester at work (I work at a University), the end of the school year for DD (field day, etc.), and some upcoming changes at work due to the newly released FLSA (guidelines for who is considered "exempt" and therefore "salaried" staff...), but this morning there was some pixiedust related to our Disney trip! When the Room Only discounts for fall came out, we were able to get one for our last four days at POP Century, but at the time I was really hoping to be able to stay at POFQ. Without the RO discount, it just added to much to the budget, so I was one of the people that set alarms hearing the rumors on here that RO Fall discounts were coming out at the same time as the Free Dining offer this year...got up at 5 a.m. and within minutes of the discount opening up there was NO availability at POFQ. I've been checking here and there ever since and this morning...I was able to change to POFQ - they must have released more rooms for the discount!! I just knew it was a glitch, and even wasn't able to make the change on the website, but I called and was able to do it over the phone. I've very excited to stay there and we have some time planned at Disney Springs during that part of our stay, so it will be fun to take the boat over.pixiedust:

Of course - I've made multiple changes to our itinerary since the last one that I posted. Mostly, the changes came about because I started thinking about how late we're going to be up on our travel day due to flight changes, and was worried that if we did a really long day at HS the next day we would be playing catch up (and becoming cranky) for the rest of the trip! I also decided to just do two half days at HS so we could use FP+ wisely there as it's IMO not worth doing two full days there, but with the tiers there and not wanting to have to wait hours for either TSMM or RNR (DD is too young for me to feel comfortable with the single rider line...well and she wouldn't ever go for it as she doesn't like people she doesn't know!) two days will work better. I'll put a link to the most recent itinerary in the first post as well as here

Finally - lots of updates on costumes for MNSSHP!

DD has recently had a revelation that pink is no longer her favorite color and so she doesn't want to be Libby from Star Darlings anymore...now she wants to be Tessa (whose outfit is teal and aqua). I bought some material at JoAnn Fabrics and worked last weekend on making her costume. I have to attach the top to the skirt to finish the dress and then have some accessorizing to do, but I'll post pictures soon!

As for me -- I decided to change from an "ewok" costume to being Mulan (her yellow dress). I was able to piece the outfit together on Amazon for less than $15! The stuff is CHEAP but it is just for a costume, so I'm good with it! I got a yellow maxi dress, a green long-sleeve bolero length open cardigan and then for the blue around her waist, I got a navy tube top and then just cut it to be shorter and hemmed it. I found some red wide ribbon that was around some fleece blankets (they were around the blankets when they were rolled up) that we got one Christmas and I had saved that work perfectly for the belt (I sewed two together). I'll post pics soon of this as well!

Itinerary Changes Part 1

Hopefully the last ones until FP+ are scheduled and confirmed!!!

So I made a number of changes to our itinerary related to which day we were going to be in which park...and that led to some larger itinerary changes. Mostly, I wanted to make sure we had a good amount of time to enjoy AKL and also wanted to make sure we aren't over-doing it! I was also able to move some dining around and that affected which day we were doing what (i.e. I didn't want to do our pre-opening BOG breakfast on the same day that I was able to get a BOG Dinner!). I hadn't scheduled our ADRs at the time of my last itinerary update! So...here's our plans as of today!

Resort Update!

If you remember I talked about being one of the people up really early when the fall room only discounts came out with the hopes of getting a discount for POFQ, but there was no availability even within the first few minutes of the discount becoming available. I booked us at Pop Century for the last half of our trip, but decided I would keep checking in to see if anything opened up at POFQ. Well...thanks likely to the dining renovation that is happening there through the fall...I was able to get the RO discount for POFQ! I'm really excited because it's one place I've wanted to try for a few years now. It has a fun pool (DD will love the slide) and I love that it's a smaller resort. It doesn't bother me that the food area will have renovations happening because we only eat a handful of times at the resort when we are there -- we spend most of our time in the parks.

DALMATIAN DAY!

Today marks 101 Days till our trip! On each of our trips I've done something special leading up to the trip. On our first trip we did a countdown from 25 days out and each of the days had some sort of activity to do related to the trip (e.g. all of the Fridays were "Disney Movie Nights", we had a 5 minute Disney dance party, baked Mickey Cupcakes, that sort of thing), last year a mystery Disney character was leaving messages and clues for DD and she had to try and figure out who it was...when she finally guessed correctly that it was Fairy Godmother, she got a bag of Disney-themed stuff to do on the plane trip), things like that...

This year she has letters being delivered at various points between now and our trip that are all from Disney Villains. Today's letter was from Cruella DeVille and with it she brought a cake and this 101 Day countdown (organized into weeks because I don't think we could remember to take down a Mickey Head every day for 101 days!). I'm sure those 101 Days will fly by! I can't believe we're already into July....I saw them putting up the back-to-school merchandise in Target over the weekend! Here are some pictures of our countdown and Dalmatian Day cake!

You are one very busy & organized person!
Just wanted to drop a few suggestions:
Epcot - Agent P free souvenirs when playing the game: UK - tea bag, France - pressed penny.
MK - When picking up MNSSHP Sorcerers card also pick up a free pack of cards (5 per pkg.)per person.
Solid planning & congrats on getting the POFQ! See you at the parks!

Thanks for the tips! Especially the freebies in Epcot! Some people probably think I over plan, and when we get there we definitely make adjustments as we feel like it, but having a plan really reduces how many times we walk across the park and helps us try and avoid the crowds/lines as best as we can!!

So since you changed your costumes, does that mean a magic band change is in the works? DH and I do special Disney things as we get closer to our trip. We start movie nights next month and I can't wait!

Oh no! I didn't even think about the magic bands that we had matched up with our costumes... I may have to design a few new ones! I love movie nights! We have done Friday Disney movie nights leading up to our trip a few times. I have the letters from villains planned this time, but as we get closer may have to do some movie nights again!

Alright...so you called it - I designed new Magic Band skins for the trip to match our Halloween costumes! Here they are :)

DD's Elena Magic Band (we'll put it on a red band)

My Mulan Magic Band (it'll go on a purple band)

Also...we schedule our FP+ on Monday morning, so stay tuned for the "final" itinerary coming soon. I've made a few changes from the one above, but figure I might as well just wait and see how FP+ day goes!

Ooooh, I love them! Especially the Mulan one. :)

Can't wait to see your FP selections. Our window opens a week from tomorrow and I still don't have a plan down.
