we just got off the Liberty today. I am glad we decided to give Royal a try. we had mostly beautiful weather. I will do a more complete review soon.
I am really glad Disney priced us out this year. ha! especially since it seems like their sailings were more affected than Liberty's because of the hurricane.

I'm glad it worked out for you. I sailed on the Anthem in March and although I did like some things about Royal it wasn't enough to pull me away from Disney.

Nice! We've been on Oasis and Freexom and DCL Fantasy- as much as we loved the Fantasy, we served so much more value in Royal and will allow us to add extra days/vacations

Ok, let me see how much I can get to tonight.

Background:
We are a family of 5---- we have 2 girls ( 11 &9 ) and a boy (6yrs). This was our 4th cruise. We've previously sailed the Wonder ( verandah room) out of LA to Puerto Vallarta & Cabo, The Dream( Family ocean view) to Nassau & CC and last October we were on the Magic ( 2 connecting ocean view) to Cozumel & CC.
While on the Magic, I tried to book another sailing and the prices even with rhe on board booking discount, credits etc were literally double the price. We loved everything DCL had offered us but I simply could not justify the price. After shopping around and reading on this site that someone booked a panoramic oceanview on RC, I was intrigued. I looked into it and managed to get this amazing room on Liberty which was in dry dock at the time. The price for our 7 night on Liberty was pricing out to be less than a 3 or 4 night on DCL or half the price of a 7 night on DCL so I took it.

Precruise:
we sailed into Bush, rented a car one way, had lunch at Rudy's BBQ, went to the NASA Johnson Space Center, attended a Saturday night church service ( yay since we were sailing on a sunday and i try not not miss church) and then headed to Texas City. We stopped at the Walmart for bottled water and a few essentials and headed to dinner at Gringo's Mexican restaurant ( AWESOME!) then checked into the Fairfield Inn. The next morning my husband returned the rental car. The rental office is in the same parking lot as the hotel. We gathered our things and called a cab company recommended by the hotel.
The cab was a flat $40 fee plus tip. it was an old cab but it did its job. I wasn't expecting a limo. We headed to Galveston around 11am.

Embarkation: The terminal is no Port Canaveral, I will tell you that. It seems a bit more disorganized. We did encounter lines but they went quickly and I would say we were onboard by a little past noon.
I made a quick stop to guest services then we headed to Windjammer for lunch. Embarkation lunch was good. The servers were attentive and friendly.
After lunch we headed to our room.

Stateroom:
OMG. I LOVE the family panoramic room. Every room should have these windows. it is so spacious and much bigger than the oceanview family rooms on DCL. There is a small room with the bunkbeds and closet which my girls took. Our son got the couch which became a twin bed. there is one bathroom with a shower, toilet , sink and another half bath with a toilet and sink. This room is on Deck 12 in the front of the ship.
We had pretty calm seas but yes, we did feel movement. However, we have always felt movement in our other staterooms so I can't really say if this room's location was more or less than the others.
On our last night, there was a lot of movement, almost like coninuos aftershocks but we were all on Dramamine so it was fine. The movement would not deter me at all from booking this room again.

Drinks:
Our travel agency gave us 1 free soda package which my husband took. I bought the new coffee card which was $36.80 i believe after tax and grats. I love this card!! I got frappes and lattes for under $3 each and I always ordered the large. Frappes were just offered in 1 size I believe. I also found the free coffee to be fine. I always bring my own flavored creamer anyway.
The Windjammer had flavored water and lemonade. OJ during breakfast which was more like Sunny D than fresh.
I put a 12 pack of water and some Cran-Mango juice in a bag and checked it in. I did get a call from the naughty room saying they had my bag. Once I showed them it wasn't alcohol, they sent me and my bag on my way, no problem. I also brought drink mix powder tubes but I found the options onboard to be fine and did not use the tubes. If you aren't a big soda drinker like me, you will not need the soda package.

I wanted to leave you all with some pics but i guess the files are too big. If someone would like to tell me how i can get around this, id appreciate it.

Would love to see pictures. :)

I know of 2 ways:
1) Copy and paste your photo into Word (this resizes it), then copy and paste into your post.
2) Use a photo sharing site. I use Photobucket, copy and paste the "IMG" link (shown on the right of the photo) into your post. The photo will automatically show up.

Thanks for taking the time to give us some of your thoughts. We loved Liberty - it was a fun ship to be on. The food was the only real disappointment to us, but we didn't starve! :goodvibes If you decide you want to persevere with photos, I use photobucket also. :thumbsup2

I would love to see the photos too! :)
I use Flickr for photos. After uploading, you can click on the download button, select the image size you want, and right-click to save the image link.

I'm wondering if your 6-year-old son used the kid club and if he liked it. :)

Thanks all, i will figure out how to add pics soon. in the meantime, here is a bit more.

Food:
Our family loves trying different types of food and we can be adventurous.
We split our dinners between windjammer and my time dining. We found the MDR food to be fine. not great, not bad. we felt however that it lacked variety. The prime rib and strip steal were good. I had a salad that had fried camembert cheese and that was very good. I had an asian coconut soup which was good. The lobster on formal night was surprisingly good. I was expecting it to be tough and overcooked. The salmon was fine also. It reminded me of the kind of meal you would get if you attended a wedding at a Hilton or Sheraton.
We loved the windjammer! We felt like they offered such variety for lunch and dinner. one night they had a cajun section. after Jamaica they had jerk chicken and festival bread. They had Malaysian stews, Filipino soup, pasta stations, stir fry stations and even a smaller version of the tutti salad bar. The tater tots at breakfast were always crispy as were the fries, which was important to the kids. They had paella one day which was good. They always had a few vegetarian options (curry, sauteed mushrooms, etc). They had a variety of breads at breakfast. My favorite may be the scones which they only had at the buffet and not at the cafe ( alternated between rasin and chocolate).
We had the minute steak ( thin cut steak) a couple times and it was fine. There was always something on the menu that we wanted to try because we have never heard of it. 1 lunch in the MDR i had lamb kabobs and it was good. The Brazo de mercedes ( meringue outside with custard rolled inside) dessert was better than what I get on land.
The desserts were awesome and better than DCL. The pizza place had dessert cups all the time and I liked their chocolate pana cotta, tiramisu, vanilla chip cup. Windjammer had a mango cup one day that was delicious- i think i had 5. The apple pie a la mode was everything an apple pie should be. The cheesecakes ( dulce de leche, berry, etc) were also very good. The cookies were hit or miss but i like a softer chocolate chip cookie. I found the cookies to be too crunchy for my liking. The cafe had a chocolate biscotti which i liked and my husband said he had a cranberry cookie which was good. we did not try the sandwiches at the cafe or the pizza at sorrentos. I did have the bruchetta. whe bread was nice and toasty. The bruschetta was fine but i prefer to taste the basil in my bruschetta a bit more.
Room service eggs and hash brown were gross. I think they used powdered eggs. However the steak sandwich, bacon and everything else was good. Room service always came quicker than the time quoted and they always called when they were on the way.
Based on previous reviews, I was kind of expecting Hometown Buffet quality food. However, I would say Windjammer is on par with a good Vegas buffet. Some things didnt appeal to us but many things did. MDR is for the most part on par with hotel reception / conference food. Desserts were delicious.
I came home 5 lbs heavier. seriously. the shorts i packed to wear on the last day fit like biker shorts now.
We never had dinner at the buffets on DCL so I cant compare that. We did find that we lived my time dining. DCL long dinners were tough on our kids sometimes. with MTD, we were able to enjoy the afternoon more cuz we didnt have to rush. plus service was faster. we were in and out in about an hour or so based on how fast or slow we ate. With Disney, dinner seems so much longer.

that's all for now.

Kids club:
on DCL, our kids went to the kids club but only for a short while. They would always ask us to check on them after an hour or so, at which point they were always ready to go. sometimes we would get a call on the wave phone to get them earlier. they would go maybe an hour or two on sea days then again another hour after dinner. this was the case consistently on our 3 DCL cruises, with the exception of our first where our son was in the nursery for a short while. Going on RC, i was a bit nervous as they split the ages differenty, 6-8 in one group, older kids in another. However, on our sailing kids 6-12 were together in the 6-8 room. The club was not nearly as big or decorated as DCL. No slides or play structures, no obvious theme. However, we were surprised that our kids liked it better. The kids said the counselors played more games, did experiments and practically everyone participated. There was less free roaming / running around. There were computers on one side of the room but maybe 1- 2 kids were in them It seemed like they were doing things more as a group. I believe the club could hold 50 kids max at a time. We never had an issue or got turned away.
On one sea day, the kids asked to get dropped off and asked us to come in an hour. after the hour, my husband went to get them and they asked to stay longer. That's a first! The club hours were not as extensive as DCL but we aren't ones to leave them there all day anyway. Although, I think our kids wouldn't have minded this time.
I think the RC kids club had more structure and less free running and electronic dependency.

let's see if this works...
here is the stateroom with the sofa made up as the bed. The two chairs were originally on the other side but the kids preferred it on the same side as the bed

watching a carnival ship sail away. The desk/ drawers provided lots of storage space.

What a great cabin! We loved ours on Liberty too, it was one of our favorite things about the ship. Glad to hear that you enjoyed the food in Windjammer, we didn't try it for dinner, although I'm thinking we should next time.

Casino:
I was actually looking forward to some time in the casino however the smell of smoke was so strong, even in the non smoking area. As my husband put it, " it smells worse than Vegas." I dont know if it was ventilation issues or a high number of smokers but I just could not stand it.

Sports & pool deck:
This is where Liberty blows DCL out of the water. Rock climbing and Flowrider were so much fun. the staff was helpful and we never had to wait long for our turn, even on sea days. I do wish they extended the hours for these two activities. The waterslides ( green and orange) were similar to what you'd find at a waterpark and the Tidal Wave ( 2 people on a raft with weight restrictions ) was fun and I am so glad they fixed the kinks. The line was never long either. The mini golf was bigger and better decorated than what I remember on the Dream. We caught an amazing sunset one night while playing a round.
The kids pool area seems bigger and my kids loved it. There were two hot tubs to the side of the kids pool which was freat because I could be in there and watch my kids play in Splashaway Bay.This was done much better than what we had on the Wonder and overall felt more spacious than the kids pool area on Magic and Dream. Even the main pool area seems bigger on Liberty.
We did not have issues finding pool chairs, even on sea days. I do wish they kept the kids pool open longer- I think they closed the section around 6pm.

Ice rink:
This was small but good enough. I skated with 1 of my girls for about an hour. I do wish they had staff on the ice helping people out like they did on Flowrider.

Shows: We watched the Cirque type show and my husband took the kids to the ice show. Kids loved it. Husband said it was fine. We also watched Miss Peregrine's home for peculiar children in 3D on a sea day. I do wish they offered more DreamWorks movie showings

Oh, wow, what a room! That view is amazing!

Thanks for the info on the kids' club. Sounds like they do a good job in that area, I like less-electric dependency! ::yes::

Here are a few more pics.

Dessert cups from Sorrento's but enjoyed in the café with some coffee. I think this was a chocolate pana cotta and chocolate chip mousse
