I must be crazy! - An October-November 2016 Solo PTR - Update 10/9 2 Weeks to Go - That's a Wrap

Welcome home, and a belated :bday: to you!!

Thank you SO MUCH for sharing your adventures with us! It's kinda fascinatinf to read for somebody like me who has never even left her own country. And so much of my mother in me was crying out "SHE'S A SINGLE GIRL ALONE DOING ALL THIS?! BUT IT'S SO DANGEROUS!" Disney is the really the only place I feel safe traveling alone. I admire the HECK out of you, truly. Maybe one day I'll be brave enough to venture out and see the world on my own, too! :goodvibes

Thanks for the birthday wishes.

I've been travelling on my own since I was 18 so I suppose I'm super used to it now. I also don't do anything stupid to put myself in dangerous situations (like I would never have more than one drink on my own) so I stay pretty safe.

If you ever need advice about venturing out on your own to a foreign country I'd be happy to help :cutie:

I think it's amazing that you're so well-traveled and so young. I'd love to travel but I'm scared of being stuck somewhere and not able to communicate. Do you speak several languages or how do you get by? (Sorry if that sounds dumb!)

Sounds like you had a great birthday trip. Beautiful photos too.
I LOVE massages and would probably get them more often if they were as cheap as yours. Your idea of trying to convince Disney to do the same in AK sounds good to me!

Thank you - it's always nice to be back in your own bed, plus I got to come home to this...

Awww!!! What a cute pup!
He? She? Name?

I have some special things just for you @pkondz

Can't wait! :goodvibes

It was better than Qantas in my opinion. Plus on the way back I managed to score an entire row to myself!

Oooohhhh... Nice.
An entire row is a lot nicer than what I usually get.

That would be the middle seat.
I always give Ruby the window seat, which means...

You learn something every day.

Today's my day.

No you did not :sad2:

Completely unfair.

I'm impressed.

Don't be.
I'm generally unimpressive in so many, many ways.

I know right? I hoping to convince the folks at Disney that it's what they need in the Asia area of AK (but only if they keep local prices!)

Good luck with that!
Although.... Here's my theory of economics.
Charge much less than you should.
You'll have people flocking to you and you'll make a killing.

Only problem is, Disney knows we'll flock regardless of cost.

I believe the next one they are opening is in Montreal if that helps at all.

It might.
I'm just as likely to go to Vegas as I am to Montreal.

I've been to the HK, Bangkok, Singapore, London and Paris locations.

Yep.
Definitely sensing a trend.

That's a pretty impressive list there young lady.

It was really good to get to see a different side of Bangkok, from a local's perspective.

I bet!
Totally mean that.

Hey wait, were you there?

tumblr_n7cgqujYrz1sial0xo9_250.gif

Don't be silly.
But you'll never know how much it cost to get that camera installed.

I have no idea what that means but according to the menu it is twice fried?

Really!
I wonder why?
I mean fries, well, you have to. But chicken?
Interesting.

I thought it wasn't pricey but I suppose relative to Myanmar prices it probably was.

Ah, yes. That's true, too.

I didn't know of them either until I got there and googled what to do in Yangon

Still, you know.
All I can say is "Haven't been there, didn't know that."

You could never be wrong.

I'm frequently wrong.
I just try to cover it up with rhetoric.

It's basically a street blocked off with market stalls selling touristy crap, fake bags and watches etc. According to google it is called the ladies market as the street used to sell only things for ladies.

Okay. That's what I was thinking/hoping.

If you want the other kind of lady market you need to head back to Bangkok. ;)

I thought they were cracking down on that over there?

Looks like you a had a great trip and coming home to that face...ahhhh!:lovestruc:lovestruc:lovestruc

Happy Belated birthday. :bday:

The cupcakes look amazing this week...any special flavor for London/UK? Maybe a spot of tea to go along?

I only really speak English. I did German and French in high school and still remember a little (enough to read menus and order croissants!) but other than that nothing. I've found that unless you are travelling really remotely you can get by on English just fine, and with technology these days even the remoter regions are ok if you have a translating app on your phone.

Thanks - I'm thinking of doing a post reviewing the camera as I spent a lot of time looking when I was trying to decide and real life reviews were helpful.

I wish I could massages that cheaply in Australia - it's closer to $80 an hour here (and that's not for an upscale place).

Awww!!! What a cute pup!
He? She? Name?

Her name is Edie :cutie:

Can't wait! :goodvibes

Maybe I've oversold it just a little...

Oooohhhh... Nice.
An entire row is a lot nicer than what I usually get.

That would be the middle seat.
I always give Ruby the window seat, which means...

The middle seat is the worst. I'm an aisle kind of gal myself.

Don't be.
I'm generally unimpressive in so many, many ways.

Really!
I wonder why?

Interesting.

I have no idea why but I can tell you it was delicious. Plus I ordered the breast pieces which are usually on the drier side but these were moist and delicious (did I already say delicious? I don't care I'm saying it again!).

:goodvibes

I thought they were cracking down on that over there?

Not from what I could see (or not see). I was actually turned away from a massage palour that I thought looked legitimate because I'm pretty sure it catered to "gentlemen" ;)

Happy Belated birthday. :bday:

Thanks for the birthday wishes!

No special flavour this week - just plain old butter :cutie:

What an amazing trip. I can't wait to read more about it. Happy birthday!

Thanks!

Happy Birthday! And of course that is proper birthday etiquette. Or Disney etiquette. Or proper etiquette for any day that ends in a "y"!

I like your thinking!

Beautiful pictures! So glad that you had a such a great trip.

Thanks - it was definitely a good trip but it's no Orlando :rotfl:

Maybe I've oversold it just a little...

Nah. Anything you say would be new info to me.

The middle seat is the worst. I'm an aisle kind of gal myself.

Oh? I prefer the window. I like that at least on one side, I have my own "space."

Sorry about that.

According to google Montreal is 15 minutes flying time closer...

Fewer casinos.

Meh. That word's getting too over-used.

Might be true, but still.

Plus I ordered the breast pieces which are usually on the drier side but these were moist and delicious (did I already say delicious? I don't care I'm saying it again!).

Okay! I believe you! :)
(And I typed up about half a dozen different things to say... and deleted them all. That's the nice thing about typing. My mouth might get me in trouble, but when my fingers blurt something out, the backspace key removes the evidence.)

Not from what I could see (or not see). I was actually turned away from a massage palour that I thought looked legitimate because I'm pretty sure it catered to "gentlemen" ;)

Ah. A traditional English Gentleman's club, eh? How wonderful that the old ways are being preserved. I presume you saw many a gentleman exiting the establishment with broad smiles on their faces.

I'm back and wow did I miss a lot! Here we go ...

I'm planning on putting up a mini TR about this trip

YES, Can't wait to read this!

But still that's 8% in my pocket to spend on other parts of the trip instead ☺️

Smart girl, nice work!

I thought I’d use this week’s update as a bit of a mini TR for the trip.

Oh here it is.

budget airline offshoot of Singapore Airlines. The plane was new (a dreamliner I believe)

Budget airline has a dreamliner? Incredible. I just thought of Spirit, Frontier, or Allegiant having a dreamliner here and I LOLed.

If you’ve never had a Thai massage you are missing out as they are amazing and I had a full hour’s whole body massage and it only cost $12AUD ($8.30USD).

:eek::love::worship:

(you’re allowed to spend more money on your birthday – it’s a rule right?)

Yes, I recently did this. Except instead of my birthday it was Christmas. Splurged on a pair of Bose Noise Canceling headphones - been incredible on flights so far! :music: Happy belated birthday!

The next day I left Yangon and flew to Hong Kong (back via Bangkok). Hong Kong is one of my favourite cities and this was my third trip. I caught the MTR to my hotel and checked in. It was almost 10pm so I basically crashed after a long day of travelling.

Hong Kong

I had lunch at Joel Robuchon again

I'm sensing a theme here - may have to try this place next time I make it to HK.

This time I had pre-booked four hours of lounge access which cost $35AUD ($24USD) and was some of the best money I ever spent – it was great being able to relax, eat some food and have a shower!

LOVE LOVE LOVE Lounge access. I've become spoiled and I get cranky if I don't have it when I fly (and I haven't used a shower in one yet).

Your Asia trip looked incredible, looking forward to reading about the parks!

Nah. Anything you say would be new info to me.

Oh? I prefer the window. I like that at least on one side, I have my own "space."

I consider the aisle my space! Plus I have an old knee injury so I like being able to get up and down to stretch so the aisle is a lot easier.

Fewer casinos.

So casinos are your thing? In that case why not come to Canberra as we have a truly awful casino that you might enjoy.

You really didn't miss that much - just to ramblings of an weirdo ;)

YES, Can't wait to read this!

Thanks!

Smart girl, nice work!

Budget airline has a dreamliner? Incredible. I just thought of Spirit, Frontier, or Allegiant having a dreamliner here and I LOLed.

I think being linked to Singapore airlines gives it some advantages like access to better planes!

Yes, I recently did this. Except instead of my birthday it was Christmas. Splurged on a pair of Bose Noise Canceling headphones - been incredible on flights so far! :music: Happy belated birthday!

Thanks for the birthday wishes. I splurged on some Disney things - I'll put up some pics later of my purchases!

Hong Kong

I'm sensing a theme here - may have to try this place next time I make it to HK.

Definitely. It's expensive but so worth it. The mash potato they do is what I would request as my last meal (along with their bread basket!)

LOVE LOVE LOVE Lounge access. I've become spoiled and I get cranky if I don't have it when I fly (and I haven't used a shower in one yet).

Your Asia trip looked incredible, looking forward to reading about the parks!

That was my first time in an international lounge (I've been in domestic ones for work) and I really enjoyed not having to sit with the masses!

Ah yes.
I love the window seat... until I want to get up.
Then... not so much.

So casinos are your thing? In that case why not come to Canberra as we have a truly awful casino that you might enjoy.

Not really, actually.
But they are fun once in a while (haven't even been in a casino in a couple of years.)

I thought I'd got you...;)

So close... soooooo close.

I got sooo excited about your Target gift card purchases....and then I read that it's not in Aust - damn!!

I got sooo excited about your Target gift card purchases....and then I read that it's not in Aust - damn!!

I know it sucks right? But the one benefit of having a brother living in the states is that I can take advantage of him for offers like this!

Mini Update

So I was checking my frequent flyer points (airline miles) yesterday and saw that I had finally crossed over the magic number I needed for my return business class flight. I jumped online to see what flights were available and came across a little problem.

As you may know with using miles they only offer a limited number of seats and it appears that I had missed out on the one seat on the flight I had been intending to take home. And on the day after that. And that. And that.

I had a problem until we got to eight days later. The only way I was flying back business class was to extend my trip by that much.

And I did it.

So now I will have some more time to fill in stateside. Not sure I'll extend my time at WDW (unless I can get a great deal at the Poly!) so any suggestions about where I could go would be greatly appreciated.

I'm currently scheduled to be in Orlando until 11/11 and now fly out from LA on 11/20 so hit me with your best ideas!
