Just for background, I’m using the same nomenclature the brokers use. I believe it comes from the fact that annual fees are due in January regardless of use year. A seller doesn’t expect you to credit them dues for “prior” year points, but they do expect you to pay them the dues on “current” points (i.e., points coming in the current calendar year).
