Don't worry kids, we'll tell Mickey you say hi- May 2016 PTR *Updated 4/28*

Hi DIS friends, today's post is more of a rant, but I have no one else to vent to that understands, so I hope you'll indulge me. I want to start off by saying that deep down, I am still excited for this trip and we love Disney no matter what, but planning for this one has just seemed to go downhill. And it's not like we haven't had our fair share of planning mixe up. In 2014, it was the full roll out of FP+/discontinuation of legacy FP within days of when we went. It being my first trip I planned myself and having to completely rework plans days before we left, it was stressful :faint:. In 2015, it was not knowing details about SW until weeks before or even having to find out day of, because we went the first day. And I assume with as much as Disney seems to be evolving over the next few years, this will be a continued trend for the time being. It's not that I'm particularly mad about any one thing. I'm certainly not one to say Disney is evil, or we're never going back or whatever. But all of the announcements just keep coming one after another and the word I keep coming back to is disappointed .

Just for comparison sake, here is a list of things that were either rumored to be happening or should have been there when we started planning our trip (this was back when we were going a week later and it was a family trip).
-Star Wars Weekends
-Flower and Garden (at least this one is still around)
-Frozen Ever After
-Rivers of Light

Add that to the nonstop barrage of announcements reagrding cut-backs in entertainment and the blind cash grab promotions and it just doesn't feel as magical as it should. None of this stuff will actually take away from our enjoyment while we are there, but it certainly puts a damper on the pre-trip excitement. I am so lucky I get to go back in January, but it does suck to be missing the new offerings by a month or so. After ROL was canceled I went back to rearrange my plans and I just kind of gave up.

Between FPs and ADRs I can't change without stalking MDE, which I don't have the time or energy to do and park closing by 9 almost every night, we have ended up at MK 6 our of 7 days. I'm actually not mad about but Joe is less than thrilled:confused3. At this park is open much later on every night (being an adult trip we want to be able to stay out past 9 and not have DS as out only option) and there are still so many attractions and entertainment options that we haven't done it was easy to fill up the days with fun and exciting things to do.

Anyway, sorry for such a negative post, just needed to get it off my chest. Like I said deep down I know none of this matters and we're going to have an amazing time. It's still a magical place with out all that extra stuff, it's just hard to focus on the positive when there is so much bad to focus on too. With that, starting tomorrow, I will have a run down for each day. I think focusing more on what we get to do when we're down there will be just the trick to get me out of my funk :thumbsup2. I actually wanted to do this last week since we were one month out, but I was busy with my mom visiting and it being Connor's birthday. So three week out will have to do :rotfl2:.

I 100% agree with everything you said. It is quite disappointing with everything being pulled and changed. It seems like lots of the fun snacks that I wanted to try are no longer on the menu. And if they weren't 100% ROL would be ready, why announce an opening date? But like you, keeping the magic alive and being excited about what we get to do!

 Just focus it as a glorious week of adult time to invest in your marriage and the fun stuff will all be extra. That being said. I totally get where you are coming from with all of this. Here's hoping you get your Rivers of Light at least.

Oh no what snacks, I know about the pretzels, but what else? I agree with you, they should have never announced it unless at that point it was ready to go and they were just going too use the extra month to prep:headache:. That's the right attitude to have though.

Oh I am excited about that, but I could get a week of adult time in the hotel down the street. Okay, that's sounds way dirtier then I mean :rotfl2:. I just mean we could have fun wherever, like if we went to Vegas, which was our other option, we wouldn't be experiencing this pre-trip disappointment . Oh well, I know we're going to have a blast regardless of this funk I'm in now.

3 weeks from today, we’ll be going to Walt Disney World!!!

This is obviously going to be the hardest day for me, because I don’t want to say goodbye to my kids. I have this weird internal struggle about going on. I know the kids will be fine and probably won’t miss us to much (well except the baby) and will be well taken care of, but I’ll miss them like crazy. Joe and I need this vacation and I am starting to feel less guilty because it’s important for us to have this time, but I have never left my kids for this long before. I’m just worried I’m going to miss them so much that I won’t be able to enjoy myself, plus we’ll be surrounded by kids and constantly reminded of what we left behind. There is the possibility that I'll see kids have meltdowns and be glad we don't have to deal with that:rotfl2:. I purposefully scheduled a later flight so that we could relax in the morning with the boys before we had to leave. We will need to leave the house by 10 to get on the road to the airport.

We live about an hour from it and it will be busy getting there, since it’s a Sunday. We’ll probably have lunch at the airport, maybe a sit down place if we have the time.

We are supposed to arrive at MCO at 3:55 and then we’ll go pick up our bags and rental car, which we got through Alamo. Our plan is to be able to go straight to our room, since we did online check in and then head out pretty quickly. I know I'll just be too excited to want to do more then throw our bags down and get to the park.

We will probably take a bus to MK since it’s easier. Our first FP is at 7 and I am hoping to be at MK by them. I think 3 hours from landing to MK is tight, but we’ve done it before and with kids in tow so this shouldn’t be too hard. First thing we have to do is enter the park and then exit to activate our tickets. There is a significant difference between the gate price of our ticket and what we paid so we want to make sure it is “bridged”. Then we’ll head over to Guest Relations and upgrade to our AP’s and purchase Tables in Wonderland. All of this really depends on time though. It is more important for me to get into the park, so if we’re running behind or the line is long we’ll have to do this another day. The only real reason to do it right away is so we can use TiW at POP for breakfast the next morning.

After all that, we’ll ride SDMT with our FP, we’ll head over to Frontierland and have dinner at Peco’s Bills. We then have FPs for BTMRR and we’ll also ride Splash standby. We’ll leave that section of the park and head over to Tomorrowland, which is my favorite land, especially at night. We have FPs for Space and we plan to do every attraction in Tomorrowland throughout the night, even Stitch:scared1:. I did Stitch when it was Alien Encounter and Joe’s never done it, I know it’s hated, but with as much time that we will have at MK, my goal is to do every attraction over the course of the week. We also plan to see Celebrate the Magic and Wishes. The night time stuff at MK is my absolute favorite thing in all of WDW and I would literally do it every night, but when Joe found we would be at MK on three nights his response was, “We have to watch Wishes 3 times!”

Why did I marry this man:rotfl:? So sadly we will only be doing Wishes this first night. However if we happen to be passing around the castle during Wishes o’clock on the other nights, we would have to stop, it’s the law::yes::. Well Ashley's law anyway. And that will be our first day at WDW. The park is open until 12, but I doubt we’ll stay out that late. It’s really hard for us, because on most night we don’t go to bed until midnight, we are just natural night owls. However, even though we are used to going to bed late and getting up early, I think that combined with the physicality of the vacation would be too much, so we are going to try and leave slightly earlier than original planned for this night.

n Tomorrowland throughout the night, even Stitch:scared1:. I did Stitch when it was Alien Encounter and Joe’s never done it,
From all that I have heard from it's pretty much the same "ride" just with a different story.

The night time stuff at MK is my absolute favorite thing in all of WDW and I would literally do it every night, but when Joe found we would be at MK on three nights his response was, “We have to watch Wishes 3 times!”
:rotfl2:

However if we happen to be passing around the castle during Wishes o’clock on the other nights, we would have to stop, it’s the law::yes::.
Actually the audio is in your favor. They generally encourage you to stop and enjoy the show do to the dimmed lights. ::yes:::rotfl:

Sorry about all the disappointments with planning this trip. I'm not paying tons of attention to the news, since we're not planning a trip right now, but it does seem there have been a lot of delays and cuts to things lately. I hope it doesn't impact your fun.

I’m just worried I’m going to miss them so much that I won’t be able to enjoy myself, plus we’ll be surrounded by kids and constantly reminded of what we left behind. There is the possibility that I'll see kids have meltdowns and be glad we don't have to deal with that:rotfl2:.
Maybe just pull up some of the particularly challenging chapters from your previous TR if you need a reminder. :rotfl:

I think 3 hours from landing to MK is tight, but we’ve done it before and with kids in tow so this shouldn’t be too hard.
I think you can do it. I can't remember the exact time frame, but I know that I had to do a very fast turnaround when arriving on the August 2014 trip - it involved running through the MK (also for a Mine Train FP) - we made it, though.

This sounds like a great night (well, except for Stitch - wear some shoulder pads or something - it's been like 7 years since I rode, but I still remember it hurting my shoulders!)

For Wishes, you might be able to get Joe to agree to an extra viewing by going into Fantasyland and getting the directly-underneath view. I did that last trip (when I met up w/Tracy) and it was really cool and different. Surrounded by fireworks. And maybe do the third viewing from a ride - I recommend Big Thunder and/or Splash for a fun view or parts of it.

Hi DIS friends, today's post is more of a rant, but I have no one else to vent to that understands, so I hope you'll indulge me.
You came to the right place.

It's not that I'm particularly mad about any one thing. I'm certainly not one to say Disney is evil, or we're never going back or whatever. But all of the announcements just keep coming one after another and the word I keep coming back to is disappointed .
Yeah, I can't say that I don't understand where you're coming from. I'm not even planning a trip and I'm getting annoyed by all of it!

Understandable. I think, having read the whole post, that you're in the right frame of mind and seeing the bigger picture. But you're definitely entitled to feeling the frustration being caused by things that are beyond your control.

Between FPs and ADRs I can't change without stalking MDE, which I don't have the time or energy to do and park closing by 9 almost every night, we have ended up at MK 6 our of 7 days.
This. I have been ranting about 180 day ADRs for years and I've been the same way about making FP+ reservations so far out ever since they rolled it out for this very reason. Disney likes to spring changes on us at the last second. They do it all the time. Whether it be park hours, delayed attraction openings, or whatever. And by the time it comes out you've already got your ADRs, FP+ and park days all planned out. And if your changing plans is contingent on changing an ADR day or time, you're pretty much screwed unless you're willing to just give it up.

Your concerns are definitely valid. It won't be easy for you, but like you said, you and Joe need the time away to yourselves. Relax and enjoy it!

We have FPs for Space and we plan to do every attraction in Tomorrowland throughout the night, even Stitch:scared1:.
WHAT??????

I know it’s hated, but with as much time that we will have at MK, my goal is to do every attraction over the course of the week.
Well, ok, if you put it that way...

And Stitch isn't horrible. I've done it once. It is ok, it just isn't something that I feel the need to do every time.

So sadly we will only be doing Wishes this first night.
Well... then just make sure to challenge yourself to be in other areas of the park to either just happen to be in the area when it starts and watch Wishes from a different vantage point (Fantasyland, maybe?) or try to watch it as you're riding BTMRR or Splash.

From all that I have heard from it's pretty much the same "ride" just with a different story.
I don't really remember it, I just remember enough to know I went on it :confused3

Actually the audio is in your favor. They generally encourage you to stop and enjoy the show do to the dimmed lights. ::yes:::rotfl:
:thumbsup2 good point

Sorry about all the disappointments with planning this trip. I'm not paying tons of attention to the news, since we're not planning a trip right now, but it does seem there have been a lot of delays and cuts to things lately. I hope it doesn't impact your fun.
I'm sure it won't when we're there, but right now it's ruining the fun of planning.

Maybe just pull up some of the particularly challenging chapters from your previous TR if you need a reminder. :rotfl:
:rotfl2:

This sounds like a great night (well, except for Stitch - wear some shoulder pads or something - it's been like 7 years since I rode, but I still remember it hurting my shoulders!)
Lol, you think Disney secuirty will let me in with shoulder pads :rotfl2:

For Wishes, you might be able to get Joe to agree to an extra viewing by going into Fantasyland and getting the directly-underneath view. I did that last trip (when I met up w/Tracy) and it was really cool and different. Surrounded by fireworks. And maybe do the third viewing from a ride - I recommend Big Thunder and/or Splash for a fun view or parts of it.
That's the plan :thumbsup2

You came to the right place.

Yeah, I can't say that I don't understand where you're coming from. I'm not even planning a trip and I'm getting annoyed by all of it!
:rotfl2:Glad to know I'm not alone.

Understandable. I think, having read the whole post, that you're in the right frame of mind and seeing the bigger picture. But you're definitely entitled to feeling the frustration being caused by things that are beyond your control.
Thanks, I am trying my best to be positive :thumbsup2

This. I have been ranting about 180 day ADRs for years and I've been the same way about making FP+ reservations so far out ever since they rolled it out for this very reason. And if your changing plans is contingent on changing an ADR day or time, you're pretty much screwed unless you're willing to just give it up.
I really angers me too, I wouldn't be stuck with these plans if they didn't make me plan in advance, but of course I want to do these things so I am forced to :furious:

Your concerns are definitely valid. It won't be easy for you, but like you said, you and Joe need the time away to yourselves. Relax and enjoy it!
Yeah

WHAT??????
:rotfl:

Well, ok, if you put it that way...

And Stitch isn't horrible. I've done it once. It is ok, it just isn't something that I feel the need to do every time.
Definitely not, just want to do it once, so I can say that I have.

Well... then just make sure to challenge yourself to be in other areas of the park to either just happen to be in the area when it starts and watch Wishes from a different vantage point (Fantasyland, maybe?) or try to watch it as you're riding BTMRR or Splash.
I'm going to try very hard to do this

Three weeks from today...May 2

This morning I want to be up by 6:30 so we have time to eat some breakfast at the POP food court before we head out for the day. If there is anything that bothers me more, it’s wasting prime earlier morning hours with eating:rotfl:.

This day we will head to Epcot for the morning. With Soarin being down and we have FPs for TT, we will head straight to Sum of All Thrills first thing. We have not done with and it looks really fun, but I heard line get long quickly. After that we’ll do Mission Space, which will be another new one for us. This is a ride I am legitimately scared of. I have been lucky to get this far in life with never having gotten sick (not even a little queasiness) from a ride, or ever really be scared of a ride, but I am actually afraid of this one.

I’m sure it will be fine and I want to be brave and do orange side, but I might chicken out:rolleyes1. Joe on the other had was terrified of rides until he got to high school, and he is very prone to motion sickness. I am planning to combat this will Dramamine, but we’ll see. The thrills won’t stop there, because next we have our FP for Test Track.

After that, I am okay with being done with Future World, but we’ll probably have time until world showcase opens so we’ll do Living with the Land, and our FP for the Pixar short film thing. I would also like to do Club Cool. I have tricked everyone else into trying Beverly, but have never tried it myself and I intend to change that. Much like Stitch, I know it will be horrible, but that doesn’t mean I should at least try it, right?

By then WS should be open so we’ll head over there. We plan to snack around the world and check out as many countries as we can. I would like to at least explore each pavilion during the day and maybe save the films for when we are there are night time. This is probably the part of the trip Joe and I are most looking forward too. We always have to race through and we really want to take the time this day. We have our last FP from 2:25-3:35 for Spaceship Earth, which we will probably use toward the end of the window and then leave the park for the day. If we did not upgrade to APs the night before, we will do it now. We’ll then head to the Poly and I hope to be there by 4 so we can get into Trader’s Sams for a little bit and have a drink before our 5:00 ADR at O’hana. We love O’hana so much and cannot wait to get back there for dinner:lovestruc. After dinner we were supposed to go to AK for ROL, but with that out of the question, we are going back to MK:scared1:. I know you're shocked right? The main problem is the hours this night. By the time we get out of dinner and over to another park it will probably be around 7. We will have spent all day at Epcot and I don’t want to go back there, AK closes at 6 & HS at 8:30. I really feel like MK is our only option, I’m fine with it, but Joe isn’t as much:confused3. I am trying to make each day unique so he doesn’t feel bored, like he thinks he will get.

We won’t have FPs, but I am hoping to get one for Mickey on the app once we use the one at SE. I have heard with the new update yesterday this is possible, so I am looking forward to that feature. Then we’ll go over to Adventureland and do Pirates, Aladdin, Jungle Cruise, Tiki Room. Then Frontierland to do Country Bears, Splash, and BTMRR hopefully one of these during Wishes. In the last hour we’ll just do whatever, I really want to stay to see the Kiss Goodnight so we’ll hang around to make sure that happens.Maybe if we have room we'll finally get a Dole Whip :thumbsup2.

. Joe on the other had was terrified of rides until he got to high school, and he is very prone to motion sickness. I am planning to combat this will Dramamine, but we’ll see.
Just a note... if y'all aren't sure how he reacts to this medicine before you go you need to be sure to do a trial run with it. I'm an odd ball, but in my case most nausea meds mess with my equilibrium and make me MORE sensitive to the motion sickness. It took a day or two in the parks before I found that out though.

Much like Stitch, I know it will be horrible, but that doesn’t mean I should at least try it, right?
::yes::

If there is anything that bothers me more, it’s wasting prime earlier morning hours with eating:rotfl:.
I totally agree! I either want to be done with breakfast in time to still be touring the park at Rope Drop or wait until late morning and have a late breakfast as the crowds start to pick up.

Ok... I know everybody is different and will react to rides differently. But I can give you a little information from my point of reference that might help put you at ease. I've written about how much Universal's rides, particularly the Harry Potter rides bother me from a motion standpoint. I was hesitant before I ever rode Mission Space and it turned out that I've never had a problem riding it. I've done green and orange both. And I was even stupid enough to ride Orange once after drinking about halfway around the world. I guess what I'm saying is if you can go ride anything and everything at Universal, I think you'll be alright.

The only thing that kind of has me worried is the idea of doing Sum of All Thrills right before MS. Doing motion simulator type rides back to back is what gets to me and that is what frustrates me about Universal. There's just not really any way to avoid it there. And I've actually never done Sum of All Thrills because I'm nervous about that one. :rotfl2:

Joe on the other had was terrified of rides until he got to high school, and he is very prone to motion sickness. I am planning to combat this will Dramamine, but we’ll see. The thrills won’t stop there, because next we have our FP for Test Track.
That's a good idea. I always like to take a full dose of Dramamine every day starting a couple of days before I'll need it to get it fully into my system.

I would also like to do Club Cool. I have tricked everyone else into trying Beverly, but have never tried it myself and I intend to change that. Much like Stitch, I know it will be horrible, but that doesn’t mean I should at least try it, right?
You definitely have to try it!!!! Have Joe video it!

I doubt there will be much reaction though. You know what to expect. I tried it expecting the worst, and honestly, I didn't think it was as bad as I expected it to be.

We plan to snack around the world and check out as many countries as we can.

We’ll then head to the Poly and I hope to be there by 4 so we can get into Trader’s Sams for a little bit and have a drink before our 5:00 ADR at O’hana.
Snacking around the world... drinks at Trader Sam's... dinner at Ohana...

Perfect afternoon!

I have heard with the new update yesterday this is possible, so I am looking forward to that feature.
So I've heard. Good luck, and let us know how it works! :thumbsup2

::yes::
thanks good point, he took it on on honeymon for the cruise, but I will test itout to make sure he's still good with it. Have you tried those bands? I am thinking that might be good too

Okay this makes me feel a lot better. I can (so far) handle any kind of ride, but all the warnings really freak me out.

:rotfl: we might save Mission Space for the next night if it is too much to do back to back

That's a good idea. I always like to take a full dose of Dramamine every day starting a couple of days before I'll need it to get it fully into my system.
Yeah, I knew I read that on your report and it's where I got the idea. I think I am going to have him take a few days before the trip too.

You definitely have to try it!!!! Have Joe video it!
:crazy2:

I doubt there will be much reaction though. You know what to expect. I tried it expecting the worst, and honestly, I didn't think it was as bad as I expected it to be.
Yeah, that's what I am think I know going in it will be bad, but I think I'll still have a little reaction if it really does taste like cough medicine, I abhor that taste.

Snacking around the world... drinks at Trader Sam's... dinner at Ohana...

Perfect afternoon!
I know and on our first full Disney day :goodvibes

So I've heard. Good luck, and let us know how it works! :thumbsup2
Thanks I will make sure to report back, I'm excited to try it

Great plans!

I would be the same way on arrival - let's go to the parks now! I think you'll have a busy, but great, first night at MK. And I could probably see Wishes every night and be just fine. Hopefully you'll catch it more than once!

Exploring Epcot is my #1 goal for my solo trip too. It's so hard to really take the time to see each pavilion, look through the shops, see the movies, taste all the yummy snacks and drinks...when you have 3 kids who are tired and hot and hungry and just DONE with the "boring" stuff in WS!

I'm excited to read your review of Trader Sam's! It looks like such a fun place to hang out. And yum, Ohana dinner! We're trying this for the first time in May and I'm so excited!

3 weeks from today...5/3

It will be another earlier morning for us this day. We’ll have breakfast for sure this morning, because we won’t have the opportunity to eat when we please this day. We’ll drive to MK, because I find this much easier when you need to be in the park prior to RD. This morning will be interesting because they are having the extra magic morning or whatever it’s called. I know that get let in before us, but I’m curious to see how much more crowded it is outside the now. This is the morning we have our Keys to the Kingdom Tour, but we don’t have to check in until 8:15, so that should give enough time for the crowds to get to their breakfast ADRs and leave an almost empty Main Street for pictures:goodvibes. The is supposed to last 5 hours and should be fun. I know both Joe and I really looking forward to this. We’ll also have lunch at Columbia Harbor House, which is included in the price of the tour. After the tour we don’t’ have any plans to do anything for the rest of the afternoon. We might go take a closer look at what was shown to us, or just hang out on Main Street for a little bit, I definitely want to be out of there before the parade though::yes::. As I mentioned before, Joe is in school and is currently taking a math course which is pretty time consuming. I am hoping that he can get most of his work done done before we leave, but I am leaving this afternoon open in case he does need more time to do some work. If not we might actually go swimming in the pool:beach:.

Our plans this night are pretty flexible as well. We have FPs at Epcot, but I am only planning on using the one at TT which is from 5:40-6:40. Then we’ll head over to the WS and maybe pick up some snacks along the way. We have dinner, but this will be like our appetizer:thumbsup2. Our ADR is night is at Via Napoli. We will probably just go with pizza and nothing else. The only time I could get was at 7:55 which means we will probably miss Illuminations, but I’m okay with that. This is an EMH night at Epcot, but I am not really sure what we’ll do. With there being so few rides, I assume the waits will be long and I’m not sure we’ll have much to do in the World Showcase either, so we may just call it a night after dinner. We’ll play it by ear.

This day is pretty simple, not many details to talk about. If anybody has idea on what to do during Epcot's EMH let me know. I have never done evening EMHs in any park so I am not sure what to expect and ideas are welcome.

Great plans!
:thanks:

I would be the same way on arrival - let's go to the parks now! I think you'll have a busy, but great, first night at MK. And I could probably see Wishes every night and be just fine. Hopefully you'll catch it more than once!
I can't help it, every time we plan on taking it easy on arrival day and every time we end up in the park :upsidedow

Oh I so know what you're talking about. I think you will have a great time by yourself, getting to explore especially during F&W

I'm excited to read your review of Trader Sam's! It looks like such a fun place to hang out. And yum, Ohana dinner! We're trying this for the first time in May and I'm so excited!
I just hope we can actually get in :lmao:

Oh I'm so excited to hear your thoughts on KTTK! I'm still trying to decide between this and Marceline. When did you book this?

It sounds like it will be a nice relaxing afternoon...at least for you. Not so much for Joe if he has homework!

We're trying Via Napoli this trip as well. And I think we'll be at MK this morning too. Our plans are Tomorrowland at RD, late breakfast at Crystal Palace, and then heading out of the park around 1. We'll have to stay in touch so we can try and find each other!!

I booked in January, but I just look a few weeks ago and they still had spots in all three time slots for that day, so you should be good to wait. I don't know much about the Marceline tour, but I don't think you can go wrong.

I know it's a huge bummer, but he is confident he can get it done before the trip so we'll see.

Definitely, last time I exchange info with some DISers before we left, I'll be sure to PM you before you leave.

This should be an awesome day. I'm really jealous of you getting to do the tour.

And then dinner at Via Napoli... like I said, awesome day.

I can't really help much about EPCOT EMH. The only time I've stayed for evening EMH was the week the new Test Track re-opened so that I could ride it. And that involved a pretty long line still. I don't know if it is this way in the evening or not, but there is hardly anything even open in EPCOT for morning EMH. When we went in Jan we only had the choice of Test Track, Mission Space, Spaceship Earth and the Circle of Life movie. Everything else was closed until 9.
