Don't worry kids, we'll tell Mickey you say hi- May 2016 PTR *Updated 4/28*

Congrats on the double digit mark! It really is kind of a weird stage in the planning process. Stuck between ADRs and FP+. I just really wish that we didn't have to do ADRs so far out.

Indeed we do. If you are trying to kit up the most countries on one go Take the Morocco boat and work your way towards mexico. YOu only miss France, England and Canada this way. And really France is right there by the boat dock for Morocco so you could even hit that up as well if you don't mind a small bit of backtracking.
Thanks, loving the tips.

Not this time for me! We are still dealing with the logistics from moving (we are getting the old house cleared out) and won't be done dealing with that until end of February. By then our trip will be right around the corner. I completely missed our double digit dance and almost missed FP day! :rotfl2:
Oh my, hope moving is going well though.

Just got all caught up on your plans. I am so happy that you and Joe get an adults-only trip. Disney will seem totally different without having to attend to the needs of 3 little boys at all times. And I'm glad that you're planning to try new things that are better suited to couples. We love dinner at California Grill - ask for a window seat to see the fireworks, we've had to wait, but gotten one each time. The steak is very good! We did the Keys to the Kingdom tour a few years back and really enjoyed it. And I'm certain you will learn/notice new things. The guides are VERY knowledgable and excited to share all sorts of little tidbits (we had Rae as our guide and she was phenomenal, but I hear many of them are). I can't believe your trip is only double digits away! How exciting! I look forward to hearing all about it.
Thanks for your insight about the tour, I remember that TR when you did it. I am so excited to not have to be mom for a week, heck we could be staying at the Super 8 down he road and I would be happy if it meant I only had to take care of myself :rotfl2:

Joining the party late but I've enjoyed reading through your PTR so far and can't wait to read more!! You've given me some excellent ideas to add to our next trip in May 2017! :)
:welcome: Thanks for stopping by.

And I feel you - I want to plan SOMETHING! I end up playing around with our plans and change or add ADRs. We're getting close!
Yeah that's exactly the problem, now I am rearranging things and I am not sure that's always better :confused3

Yay for double digits. We are there too!
I know so exciting :cheer2:

New to the party but I am enjoying what I have read so far. Can't wait to read more.
:welcome: Thanks for commenting!!

Double digits! I wish I was going back to WDW in less than 100 days.
Yeah but you were just there :cutie:

Congrats on the double digit mark! It really is kind of a weird stage in the planning process. Stuck between ADRs and FP+. I just really wish that we didn't have to do ADRs so far out.
I am with you there I wish ADRs were made at like 60 days and FPs at 30. I always end up changing my mind between 180 and the trip and then its too hard to switch things up because everything good is gone :headache:

The updated hours for our trip came out two weeks ago and I have tweaked some things now that we can stay later in the parks. I'm still hoping they'll change one more time, indicating that AK will have River of Light open, but I'll just have to wait and see. For now though, here are the first two day's plans.

Day 1, May 1: Travel Day

I specifically booked a midday flight so I could see the boys in the morning. We chose to fly out of our very small, regional airport and there are not many choices. Luckily the only direct flight was also the one leaving midday, at 1:15 pm to be exact on Southwest. This still means we have to leave by 10am because we live an hour away from the airport, but I should get a few hours with the boys before we have to leave. My in laws are staying with the boys at our house because Connor will have school. Hopefully, once we leave the house it will be smooth sailing until we land at MCO around 3:50. For the first time, we will be taking the Magical Express, which I am pretty excited about. This night is a little up in the air for now and I probably won't decide what I want to do until later on. As most of you know, I have a 8:50 ADR at Cali Grill to have dinner and watch Wishes. The reason I originally did this was because the parks closed at 10pm and we figured by the time we were able to get to MK we would only get a few hours in the park. I know most people don't go to the parks arrival day, but we always have. I am always just to excited and want to get there right away.

Plus to add that extra day its only $10 which is practically free ::yes::. #DisneyMath

Anyways, I thought it would just be better to do dinner and what's better that Cali Grill during Wishes? Then Disney had to go and extend the hours that night until midnight:goodvibes. First, we've never gotten to stay that late before and at home we typically stay up until midnight every night so its not like it would be out of our ordinary schedule. But, do I want to give up Cali Grill :confused3? I mentioned to Joe about the extended hours and he seemed disappointed we weren't going, but he didn't say anything:scratchin. Well the other night I flat out asked him nice dinner at CG or MK until midnight. His decision....MK:dancer:. I know some of you probably think its crazy, but in the end we are just not fancy dinner kind of people unless its for a special occasion. We would both be happier spending time in the parks. That said, I still haven't had the heart to give up the ADR just in case we change our mind . I am also secretly hoping to get an earlier time so I don't have to choose, we'll see.

Okay, so in all likelihood we'll go to MK have dinner at QS, I'm think in Peco's Bills, we've never been but the menu sounds good. We'll also have our 3 FP's which I'll probably do Splash, Space, and Buzz unless I can get one for SDMT. Sadly, BTMRR will be down for refurb, which is my favorite Disney roller coaster . We'll probably spend most of the night in Tomorrowland because I think its the best at night. I'm not planning on doing any night time stuff and saving that for another night. Should be a nice full day and I am excited for it.

Day 2, May 2: Epcot & AK

This morning we will start our day at Epcot. I will probably start off with FP's here, but that may change. I want to do all Future World first thing that way we can relax in the World showcase once it opens at 11. Attraction priorities include; Mission Space (new to us), Test Track, Sum of All Thrills (new to us), Spaceship Earth, & the new Pixar/Disney shorts in 3D. Soarin is closed and as much as I enjoy the land, I don't see the point in making the trek there when we only have two hours this morning. I am also skipping the Seas because I don't think this is a must do every trip and I have done it the last two trips for the boys.

In the afternoon we will hit up WS and the American Adventure to Canada pavilions. We will be going to Epcot three times and I like splitting the WS up to make sure we had time to see everything we wanted without feeling rushed. The announcement about Flower and Garden :flower2: came yesterday and they are adding two new outdoor kitchens which I am super excited about. We plan to snack at the booths and have some other treats around the world for our lunch.

We won't be able to go overboard because we have a big dinner later on. Once the details are announced about the Outdoor Kitchens, I will have a full post about all the delicious foods we want to try . Anyway, depending on when we get done we will try and go back to the room for a short rest. Joe decided to go back to school to get his degree and he will be right in the middle of a term when we are gone. He is planning to do his assignments early, but he has has to post responses to Blackboard 5 out of 7 days of the week. This means he will have to have time every day besides two in which to post so we need to have breaks everyday just for that.

Our dinner this night is at O'hana at 5pm. If we have time we will try at stop at Trader Sam's, but this is not a priority. After dinner we were supposed to go to MK, but if we do end up going the night before then we'll make this our AK night. Now, this only works if Rivers of Light has started. See how in flux everything is right now :rotfl2:. Let's pretend everything goes as planned and we do go to AK this night, our only real plan is to see Rivers of Light. Since, I have no idea about when it will be or how long before we have to line up I am only going to plan for this. However, if FP is a thing here and I am lucky enough to snag one, we will FP this and probably the Safari for a night time one and EE. We really won't need FP at Epcot, so I am not worried about losing them there.

These first two days rely on a lot of if this than that, but for what I have I am excited.

I hate all the plans in limbo. Rivers of Light? Frozen? What's closed and what's going to be open? What bands at F&G? It's so hard to be an over planner when you don't know what's going on.

I am also secretly hoping to get an earlier time so I don't have to choose, we'll see.
That's what I was going to suggest - why not do both? :thumbsup2

Nope... not at all. That's exactly what I'd have done given the same situation! Why not go? You're going to be right there, so close. And how many often do you get to spend an evening in MK???

Looks like a good plan. You shouldn't have too much trouble getting through all of that in a morning if you're using FP+ there.

He is planning to do his assignments early, but he has has to post responses to Blackboard 5 out of 7 days of the week. I'm glad that he can make it all work, but it kind of stinks that he'll still have work to do on the trip even though he's doing most of it before hand.

Plans look good so far. Hopefully they'll figure it all out and get a schedule that will help you finish planning things. We all know how they like to spring some things on us at the last minute though. Hopefully they don't do that to you with a soft opening of Rivers of Light or something like that.

Love all your plans! I think MK on your first night is a great idea. An early ADR at Cali Grill would be nice too! We have only been to Peco's Bills when they had the old menu so I haven't tried the new Mexican stuff but it does sound good! And Tomorrowland is my favorite land at night - love all of the lights!

I agree with splitting up WS. We're doing that in May too with our two Epcot days. It's just too much to see all in one day. And I feel you on things being up in the air. I've heard rumors that Rivers of Light will start on Earth Day (4/22, I think?) so I'm really hoping it is on for our trip!

:rotfl2:I know, doesn't Disney realize how stressful this makes things :rotfl:. Really though I am trying to be as laid-back as someone with a type A personality can be and just be flexible, this is a lot easier to do since its just the two of us.

That's what I was going to suggest - why not do both? :thumbsup2

This sounds wonderful! :goodvibes
Thanks

Thanks, I was thinking we're adult maybe we should do the "adult" thing and have a nice romantic dinner, but we really just want to be kids and go to MK:blush:.

I'm glad that he can make it all work, but it kind of stinks that he'll still have work to do on the trip even though he's doing most of it before hand.
Yeah, his school gives him like four weeks off and that in the middle of summer, so we just have to deal with it.

I know, hopefully that will open in April and I'll have a heads up.

Yeah, me too and I think we have a good shot. I am worried about Frozen though and what that will do to things if its open on May 1st like its predicted to o_O

I have spent most of the afternoon rearranging some plans. We decided we wanted something different for some of our ADRs and I had to change things up to get the ADRs I wanted. Isn't it amazing we weren't sure what we wanted to eat on a given day six months in advance?

Day 3 & 4 Plans

Tuesday, May 3 KTTK, HDDR, & Epcot

So excited for this day. We will have to get up bright and early to get to MK by 8 for our tour. The tour isn’t scheduled to start until 8:30 but we need to check in at 8:15 and I want to get lots of picture on Main Street beforehand. From what I know about the tour we’ll get some information about Main Street, Adventureland, and Liberty Square. We’ll get our own Jungle Cruise boat with narration from our guide and a ride on Haunted Mansion. Lunch will be at Columbia Harbor House and we’ll get a special key pin. Then we get to go down to the utilidors. I know this part is not as exciting as it seems and it basically just tunnels with people walking to and from their jobs. That being said, I have pretty low expectation of this portion of the trip and am just excited to get to do it.

Our tour should conclude about 1 or 1:30 and this is where I need some opinions. I rescheduled our HDDR for this day at four, I was thinking we would have enough time to go back to POP for an hour and nap but now I'm not sure. Any opinions on this. If we don't go back and nap we may just do relaxing things to get off our feet like the Liberty Bell and train until its time to head to Fort Wilderness. We'll have our early dinner at HDDR and hopefully have a good time.

Afterwards, we will head to Epcot. I am planning on using the FPs here and probably just do TT and maybe one other thing before we head to World Showcase to explore the rest of the countries. I am hoping to do the Pick a Pearl in Japan as well. We will conclude our night with Illuminations. It's EMH this night, but I'm thinking we'll probably be too tired to stay.

Wednesday, May 4 HS & MK EMH

This day we will once again be with the RD crowd, this time at HS. I am hoping to get to ride RNR two times before it gets too crowded because this is Joe’s favorite ride. We’ll also do ToT because is my favorite ride. We also plan to do VotLM, TSMM, ST, and Indiana Jones. Right now we have an ADR at Beaches & Cream at 1:50. I am torn about this one. We really want to eat here and thanks to insight from you guys determined that our dinner ADR on May 6 would interfere with getting to F! , so I got this instead. As of right now, I want to be to our evening park by 6. If we do this lunch at 1:50, theoretically get done around 2:50 and then have to get back to the entrance of HS or E in order to catch a bus back to the resort we probably won’t get back until 4ish which would only give us an hour and a half to rest before we went back out. I feel that this is one of those things play by ear. With such a long day the day before, if we are starting to feel fatigued we may just cancel the ADR on the 3rd. I am also contemplating taking Uber or a cab which would get us back to POP much quicker.

That night we will be back at MK for EMH. I am hoping to be able to get to most of the rides in Fantasyland on this night. We will have used our FPs at HS that morning, but I am hoping I can get one or two this night in the park. We have an ADR at BoG for 8. I considered changing it and trying out Skipper Canteen, but as much as I want to like it, I just do not. I have not heard many good reviews of the service and the food is not really anything that appeals to me. For that reason, we will be sticking to BoG.

We plan to stay through til the end of the night, and watching Wishes on Main Street this night. And that will be it for day 4:hyper:.

:sad2: This is what frustrates me so much about the 180 day ADR system.

That being said, I have pretty low expectation of this portion of the trip and am just excited to get to do it.
I really think it will be a lot of fun. Yes, I'm sure the Utilidors are a bit of a letdown for most people who expect something grand and exciting... but just getting a glance behind the scenes will be interesting to say the least.

I'd be tempted to just find something to do in the park. Yeah, you might get an hour at Pop, but you could spend an hour or more just trying to get to Pop and then back to FW. If you really need to lay down for a while, it might be worth it, but I'd be tempted to just hang out in MK or maybe even visit MK area resorts and find somewhere quiet just to sit and relax for a while.

WL has a lot of great seating areas in less traveled areas... I think 3rd floor, if I remember right as some nice places overlooking the lobby.

We have an ADR at BoG for 8. I considered changing it and trying out Skipper Canteen, but as much as I want to like it, I just do not. I have not heard many good reviews of the service and the food is not really anything that appeals to me. For that reason, we will be sticking to BoG.
I kind of agree with you. I'm not all that interested in the menu, and the whole idea that you'd have to cancel an ADR at least 24 hours in advance to take your chance on getting in there at some point is frustrating.

I hate the ADR system... well, more than most people. So I kind of like this seating system where you just walk up, put in your name an then they text you. Actually, I love that idea.

But with the whole book FP+ 60 days out and book ADRs 180 days out, Disney is pretty much telling you to schedule everything in advance and take any flexibility out of your planning. You really can't have it both ways... :sad2:

Getting from Pop to Fort Wilderness is quite the pain. I feel that if you will already will be at MK already, you would better serve yourselves by doing an in park break. Our family favorite way is to hit up tomorrowland and do Peoplemover a few times and then carousel of progress. If we have more time to kill and or just want to stay off our feet a bit longer we will then go over to Monsters inc laugh floor. The ac and the cool breeze make a big difference.

I feel the same way about the Skipper Canteen. I really wanted to like it. But I just don't.

I agree that heading back to Pop and then over to Fort Wilderness may be cutting it close. Maybe see Hall of Presidents or find a bench to relax on with a Dole Whip?

Are you doing Keys to the Kingdom?

And I'm with you on Skipper Canteen. I really want to give it a try but I don't like the walk up seating and the menu doesn't seem appealing.

Sounds like a fun night at MK!

I love the title! We are doing the same thing this summer (going without kids) although our kids are older. They gave us a really hard time about going without them!

:sad2: This is what frustrates me so much about the 180 day ADR system.
:headache: I know

I agree, I never expected anything more than plain hallways for employees like most other establishments the niceness ends in the employee only area. Still exciting though, how often do you get this chance?

This is what I was afraid of, if I could hang out in a lounge for awhile it would be fine but they don't see to open until 4 :headache:

Very true, on this particular night I would be giving up BOG and that's just not going to happen for the possibility of getting a table.

I hate the ADR system... well, more than most people. So I kind of like this seating system where you just walk up, put in your name an then they text you. Actually, I love that idea.
I love this idea in theory, but only if every other restaurant was also doing this too.

Agree 100%

Darn, bake to the drawing board.

Yes :goodvibes

And I'm with you on Skipper Canteen. I really want to give it a try but I don't like the walk up seating and the menu doesn't seem appealing.
Yeah, I appreciate the commitment to the theme, but that food is not my cup of tea.

I love the title! We are doing the same thing this summer (going without kids) although our kids are older. They gave us a really hard time about going without them!
Thanks, luckily my kids are too little to give me a hard time, but I have enough guilt on my own without them piling it on :rotfl:

Thanks to you guys for chiming in about our plans so far, because of your suggestions I am canceling HDDR :sad1:. As much as I try, it just does not fit in with our plans. I will save this for another trip where we take a night off and can go over there. I have book Via Napoli which I am honestly so excited about . I also bought our ticket this weekend from a not Disney place. I was pretty nervous about not getting them from Disney, but the site was highly recommended and I saved $63 which is not to shabby. We've always done the complete package with dining and I was unsure about having to link the tickets and everything, but it all went smoothly and the tickets are now linked and ready for FP reservations which I will be making on March 2 :cool1:.

I now need some opinions about rental cars. I've being going back and forth on this one many times. We have always had a car and found it so convenient for us. Plus being the type A that I am, I feel much more relaxed being in control of my travel. So far I have been allotting an hour or more to get from place to place and with so many resort ADRs, it is eating a lot of time. Conversely, I know I can get most places on property with the exception on MK in 20 minutes if I drive. I know people like to not have to drive on vacation, but Joe and I don't feel that way. What I am asking for is what are you opinions bus or car? :thanks:
Now back to my final days' plans.

Thursday, May 5

After three very full days in the park, I have scheduled this morning as a sleep in morning. I am hoping to be at MK around 10:30 so we can hit a ride or two before our ADR at Liberty Tree Tavern at 11:30. Besides the three fastpasses for headliners, I plan on relaxing this day and doing the things we skip over normally The Tiki Room, Hall of Presidents, Country Bear Jamboree as well as the Festival of Fantasy Parade. We are usually back at the hotel during this time of day, so I am not used to this kind of touring but I think we have a solid plan to do things that won't have long waits. I want to stay to watch the Flag Retreat because I have heard this is awesome and then we will leave to go back to POP to change for our dinner. This is a change from what we planned, but I snagged an 8:00 ADR at Yachtsman Steakhouse. Joe and I are SUPER excited about this. I figured that with canceling CG and HDDR, I still wanted to do something nice and we were deciding between Le Cellier and Yachtsman. We went with Yachtsman because we found the menu more appealing. I feel better about taking an easy day this far into the trip instead of taking that night off in the beginning. I am hoping we get to the Boardwalk area a little early so we can explore and after dinner depending on the time we may go down to Disney Springs for a few hours as well. Overall I am really excited about this relaxed day and ability to experience all types of new things.

Friday, May 6

This is our last full day at the parks and another early one for us. I have a Kona ADR at 7:30 this morning because I love this place for breakfast and I fell that at this point in time it's not something we will take the time to do with the boys, so I should take advantage while there not with us. We will then head to AK for the morning. We are going to skip the safari this time and spend the first hour getting ride on EE and KS (which Joe has never done). We’ll then head to Dinoland for Dinosaur and Primeval Whirl (another first for us) and ending the day with FotLK and It’s Tough to be a Bug. We’ll go back to POP to relax for a couple of hours and probably pack up:sad:.

We’ll end the night at HS for EMH. We’ll finish up the remaining attractions to do like GMR and Muppet Vision. I’ll also probably use our FPs at RnR and ToT. We have an ADR at 50’s Prime Time for 6 and will then head to F! after. With EMH this night I am hoping to be able to do the Launch Bay and possibly TSMM and then that will be the night. Everything could change if we find they are extending the SW fireworks because we are not sure if we can do F! and still have time to do this. We've never done evening EMH and I have a feeling they will be very crowded at this park, but it's our last night and I know I will want to stay out as late a possible and soak up every minute.

May 7

So sad about this day and its still 2 months away:sad2:. It will be another early morning as we get our bags checked and head out to MK for RD. This morning, we will see the Welcome show and then pretty much just wander Main Street. I feel that this point we should have been able to accomplish everything that was a priority for us and this morning will be more about just soaking up that last little bit of magic. The Dapper Dans and the Trolley show take place first thing in the morning, so we will probably grab a coffee at Main Street Bakery and watch the performances. I will probably end up getting FPs for SDMT and PPF and then one other one. We’ll also probably hang out in Tomorrowland because we love it. We have an ADR at Chef Mickey's at 1 for brunch. A couple of weeks ago Joe and I were lamenting about the fact that we won't get Mickey waffles this trip. I know you can get other waffles and even mickey waffles at CS, but really we just wanted to go back to Chef Mickey's :rotfl2: because we love it. I couldn't find any breakfast times the whole week we were there, so I settled on brunch. Not sure how it will compare to our beloved breakfast, but at least there will be Mickey waffles.

I hope you liked following along in my planning thus far. Its funny because we have much less restrictions this time and I found myself being very overwhelmed with wanting to do so much and still not having enough time. I guess it's true, you can't do everything at WDW. In the end though, I am pretty happy with what I have come up with in my preliminary plans and even if we get to do nothing while we’re there I know we’ll have an awesome time because I’ll be with my favorite person in my favorite place:lovestruc.

I always approve of a change of plans to Via Napoli!

It honestly might be more fun to wait and do HDDR with the boys sometime in a few years though. They might enjoy the show and have a good time.

What I am asking for is what are you opinions bus or car? :thanks:
Oh boy... if I was going on an adults only trip and planned to be mostly in the parks, I'd save the money and use Disney transportation. But if you're planning to spend much time visiting other resorts... I'd lean towards renting a car.

Another option to consider would be Uber to get to resort ADR's if it can save you some money. I've never used it, but I know a lot of people seem to like the service at Disney World.

::yes:: No kids!!!! Let's do everything we can while they aren't here to sabotage our plans!!!!

Its probably for the best. you'll have more fun at HDDR with your boys with you anyways. Its just such a pain to get to.

We've always done the complete package with dining and I was unsure about having to link the tickets and everything, but it all went smoothly and the tickets are now linked and ready for FP reservations which I will be making on March 2 :cool1:.
Its stressful trying a new method of planning isn't it.

I know people like to not have to drive on vacation, but Joe and I don't feel that way. What I am asking for is what are you opinions bus or car? :thanks:
I'll chime in with my vote on this matter when I get back. I keep hearing that Pop has one of the best Bus systems.

Glad you are getting your Mickey Waffles. :thumbsup2

Freedom for more options just ends up making my brain hurt. :rotfl:

That is unfortunate you canceled HDDR. I hope you get there someday. I do like Via Napoli we just ate there in January.

I can't help you with rental cars we have never done that.

I like your plans for the 5th, sleeping in a but with a nice meal and Liberty Tree Tavern and then Yachtsman!

The 6th sounds great as well. I've never done Kona but I've heard good things about it.

The final day is always sad even planning it is sad but all good things come to an end. I haven't heard much about the chef mickeys brunch so that should be nice.

Plans sound great. I really am loving the feel of an adults only trip! I mean, you can even ride the coasters and stuff together! It's funny, we did a lot of that in 2010, but now I've totally forgotten what it's like. :rotfl:

For what it's worth, if you want to rest after eating at Beaches 'n' Cream, there is a nice area in back of the hotel/lobby with chairs and couches (the solarium) and we've napped there before. ::yes::
