Chapter Twelve Part Three

As soon as we were all back together again, we headed into A Bug's Land.

We stopped for some Photopass pictures:

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

These are some of my favorite pictures that we had done! We didn't ride anything in this area, we were heading somewhere specific...

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

Looks even scarier when you're shrunk down to the size of a bug in A Bug's Land, doesn't it??

We made our way over toward the Tower of Terror by walking through a cereal box (Cowboy Crunchies, the only cereal that's sugar frosted and dipped in chocolate, proudly presents...Woody's Roundup!)

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

I loved these lanterns!!

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

The details here were outstanding! California Adventure was 100% our favorite park between the two...I know it sounds weird, but it felt more like a Disney park than Disneyland. It is definitely more in line with the parks in Florida in terms of feel.

We got our fast passes for Tower of Terror and had quite a bit of time to kill. I knew Nick Wilde and Judy Hopps had their meet and greet in the area, but when we got to them, they were going on a break. We made the decision to wait them out...they were a MAJOR priority for this visit, since at the time, they were unable to meet in WDW (although they will meet at the MVMCP this year...we plan to skip them though, since the wait time will be insane. My hope is it cuts down a little on the Jack/Dwarfs lines a little at the party.)

I stood on the sidewalk next to the CM who was monitoring their meet area for half an hour total, while my family sat on a bench nearby. The line grew steadily, and I was glad we decided to stay. About 5 minutes before they came back out, a family asked the CM if this was the line for Nick and Judy...she said yes, and the got in front of me. I said, "No, I'm sorry, I've been here for over 20 minutes, you need to get in the back of the line." The people behind me (who were on their honeymoon), kind of closed in behind me like my back up, LOL! We formed a Disney fan wall!
The CM looked over and said, "Good for you! They can hike to the back!"

They finally came out and it was SO WORTH THE WAIT.

Nick L-O-V-E-D that L had him on his shirt. He motioned to the photographer to just get the two of them in a picture together, and posed L...it turned out so cute, one of my very favorites!

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

I jazzed it up a little and posted it on Instagram:

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

This was an excellent meet and greet!

We still had time to kill, and the wait for Monster's Inc was posted at 15 minutes, so we hopped in line.

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

...along with about thirty other people who also noticed the line was pretty short, haha! I think we made it to the front of the line within that 15 minute timeline though, but not a minute shorter. This vending machine cracked me up:

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

Bag - O - Calories, anyone??

We got to the front of the line, the vehicles began pulling up and then...womp womp. The ride shut down. The CMs were looking at the screens and talking...apparently some teenagers started getting out of a ride car. Morons. They announced that the ride was shut down temporarily until they could get it back up and running, but it would be at least 20 minutes. I was ticked off. The kids were sad. We got out of line, because we did NOT want to sit there for another 20 minutes, and we were pretty mad we'd ended up wasting that time in line.

We decided to go check the times for Animation Academy

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

Our new plan was to go do our Tower fast pass, go get ice cream at Ghirardelli, and then head back to the hotel for a little while.

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

The sun was out now and very bright...as you're about to see...

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

DH squinting, me trying to put on my sunglasses...classic.

We survived the ride, headed out of the area, stopped for a photopass picture

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

and then went to get a treat

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

This is somehow the only picture of any of the ice cream?? We were all kind of disappointed by it, it was weird and had a grainy texture. No one finished it.

We left the park at this point...mostly. We stopped at the front so X could get a huge stuffed Oswald, and then we waited for a long time for Oswald to come out and meet, but he never showed up. We promised X that we'd definitely meet him on our last day, and finally headed back to the hotel for a break.

Part Four coming right up...the end of this California Adventure day.

Chapter Twelve Part Four

After taking some time to relax at the hotel, we came back to the parks with the goal of making the 6:30 Oswald class at Animation Academy.
We got to Buena Vista Street just as the Pixar Parade was coming...I'd completely forgot about it. It wasn't on our radar, really, and of course it was keeping us from getting across the street to our destination. We watched as we walked, but I only got a few pictures, and just a couple that were any good.

Here's Jack Jack with his hair on fire, and Crush:

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

Sorry Crush, didn't mean to catch you with your eyes closed!

There was a break in the parade that was wide enough for people to cross the street if they needed to, so we ran across and went inside the Animation Building. Inside here was beautiful!

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

People were in here sitting all over the floor, some people were laying down napping...it was cool, peaceful, dark, and the images on the screens were gorgeous. It was very immersive.

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

We had enough time to do the 6:00 Turtle Talk before our Oswald class. We had never done this before, and we had a great time. It was so funny, and our Crush was hilarious!

After we learned all about surfin' the EAC, we got in line for our Animation Academy class.

Oswald is X's favorite, and he was really happy we were doing this!

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

L was so serious...

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

And here is my finished product...

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

I'm not super happy with it, but it's not bad! We did Pluto on our last day, and it turned out much better! I'll share it in that update.

Everyone was more than ready for dinner by the time we were finished, so we decided to go look for some food. I snapped this on the way...

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

Love it.

We finally agreed on Cocina Cucamonga. The kids went to claim a table and DH and I ordered and claimed the food. Everyone got either steak tacos or burritos I think. The food was surprisingly good! I did not have high hopes, but we all enjoyed it. Or maybe we were just starving??

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

As you can see, L dug right in...his guac made it onto my plate. Actually, I think I ended up with everyone's guacamole. They hate it and I could eat it all day every day.

It was getting dark, and the kids were getting crabby, so we decided to make a pass through to see Cars Land all lit up, try Monsters Inc again, and then head out of the park...and that's exactly what we did. I will leave you with those photos!

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

Inside one of the shops in Radiator Springs, they had this little miniature version. It was awesome!!

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

We managed to make it on Mike and Sully to the Rescue this time around, and it was really cute. At the end, Roz complimented L's glasses, and he thought that was really cool!

So there you go! Our first day at California Adventure was a resounding success!

See ya real soon!

The Nick & Judy pics are so awesome! Love them. I think we're going to have to meet them at MVMCP. I'm just dreading the line we're going to have to wait in. I can't wait to hear your party night plans.

Wow, Carsland is beautiful! I can't believe how realistic it looks. Well, I know it's real, DUH......but how much it looks like the movie :o What a wonderful job they did with that section! I also love the PP pictures from Bugs Land.
My boys don't know half the pictures of them I end of posting on here :rotfl2: Ricky especially would nix most of them!

I must say I am completely jealous of your Nick and Judy meet, and if we lived closer I would not be above ignoring you for a few days because of it :snooty: Really though, great pictures! I SO wish they'd meet at WDW other than the Christmas party and I don't understand why they won't since they're popular. I'm hoping maybe when the Christmas parties are over they'll start a regular M&G, but I'm not holding my breath......

Since TOT is my favorite I have to ask, which did you prefer, the one in DL or WDW? Did you see a difference?
I miss the Animation Academy :(

I have been MIA this week...I will come back later today or tomorrow to do an update!
I coach 6th grade quiz bowl, and our competition was today, so I've been busy with that this week.
Good news...we won our district competition and will represent our school district at regionals. Woohoo!!

I think this is the 3rd or 4th consecutive year we've been the reps, so the kids are very excited.

What a fun time in Cars Land! That area is so well themed!

I'm so glad you got to meet Nick & Judy, what cute pics!

I love the Animation Building there! I'm glad you were able to draw Oswald!

Congrats on the quiz bowl win!

Thank you! That meet was definitely a highlight. They were so fun and interactive, and took a lot of time with our family.

The line situation for MVMCP is kind of stressing me out, given the reports that have started to roll in. It's killing me that Jack Skellington hasn't been coming out until 7...it's really going to end up taking a lot more party time than I'd like. We feel like we have to limit our meets now, or we won't have time to do anything else. I hope there are some time shifts as Thanksgiving and December arrive, so you guys can meet Nick and Judy with (hopefully) lower waits! Or at least pre-party waits!!

Carsland was really breathtaking. Like, I knew it would be good, but I was still surprised by just HOW good. The Bugs Land pp pictures were some of my very favorites! I loved the special 60th anniversary photopass stops because they were so fun!

I"m glad you won't ignore me b/c of Nick and Judy, LOL!! That meet was really great, and the "friends" of N&J were at the top of their game that day. I hope they make it a regular M&G after Christmas, too! They're obviously super popular, and the costumes are so cute!! It took them waaaaayyy too long to get Joy and Sadness meeting, and I'm hoping Disney will start getting back on track with characters now. I'm glad they have Elena meeting, and Moana will be getting started soon, too, and then Dr. Strange wandering for awhile at DHS...I have hope!!

Tower of Terror is 100% better at WDW than in California. The Cali ride is still fun, but the ride is just right in the middle of the street, and not off at the end like it is at DHS, so the anticipation and foreboding feeling is not the same as it is when you walk toward it and through the queue at Hollywood Studios. The atmosphere of the DHS version is unrivaled. Also, the ride is the same every time at California Adventure, none of the staggered drops, and the ride car doesn't move, it just goes up the elevator shaft, so there's not as much lead up or wow factor. BUT...it's still fun! We still rode it two or three times, and it makes me sad for the Disneyland people that it's going away. (although, the new version with Guardians of the Galaxy intrigues me!!)

What a fun time in Cars Land! That area is so well themed!

Congrats on the quiz bowl win!

We did have fun! That whole area is just incredible...we really just loved the whole California Adventure park so much! It was definitely our favorite. I told DH that I wanted the Animation Building to be our house. It was so pretty!

Thank you for the Quiz Bowl congrats! I've got to get them ready for regionals now, but I have confidence that they'll do well. I've never had a group of kids like this before...they're so smart it's ridiculous!!

Hey there, hi there, ho there!

I cannot find any gifs of Bob from That 70s Show saying this...a little heartbroken, honestly...How about Flynn Rider instead??

I'm back again with a short little chapter update! Before I do that, though, I thought I'd share a couple pictures and reviews of some Disney related things that have come in the mail over the past week!

I love Disney related etsy shops/online retailers, and I always go on a mini-bender of online shopping leading up to a trip. I showed you all my new shirts, but a couple of things have arrived.

I mentioned several posts back that I ordered a few Anthology candles...

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

I ended up with Black Pearl (supposed to smell like Pirates of the Carribbean), Wilderness Lodge, and Rome Burning (from the scene in Spaceship Earth). Unfortunately, these were not a home run. Nope. Nope. Not at all.

The Black Pearl kind of smells like a cheap ocean scented candle you'd find in a clearance bin somewhere, with some floral notes. Rome Burning smells like...something burning?? And Wilderness Lodge smells pine-ish. None of the three really remind me of any of the things they're supposed to. Plus, they all have kind of an odd melting plastic combined with menthol-but-not-really-menthol smell to them. And there is no scent throw. Which in this case, is probably a blessing.

I really, REALLY wanted to love these, but I DO NOT. The packaging is cute, so that's a positive, but the candles themselves are just not worth it. The reviews on their website are glowing, and a lot of Disney bloggers and instagrammers shill their candles, but...no. There's a thread around the boards somewhere that I've been posting on about these, and unfortunately I'm not the only one with this opinion. I was actually kind of hoping I'd just got a bad batch. Oh well! You live, you learn. Right?

However...

my luck wasn't all bad!!

Today I got my Parkbound Buttons!! If you don't know about Parkbound, prepare to become obsessed. I think we have about ten or twelve of them...and I know I'll end up with more in the future. All of the new ones are holiday themed for our trip:

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

Donald is for DH, by now you can probably guess that Stitch is for X and Jack is for L, the Mickey/Minnie is mine...and the Nsync one is DEFINITELY mine. I completely freaked out when I saw it on her website. I won't go into the history of my love for them, but...it runs deep.
Lucky for me, the woman who makes these is local to me, so I usually get them in the mail the next day :-)

I do have to say that the quality is not the same as the older style buttons from her, though. These are a little smaller and thinner, and there's something different about the pictures, but I can't quite articulate it. The older ones were very similar to the size/weight/feel of the "I'm Celebrating" buttons from Disney World, and these are not.

You're probably wanting me to just get on with the update already, aren't you? You're not alone...my dog Penny feels the same way.

She was giving me the evil eye.

Moving right along

Chapter Thirteen: (Fastpass) Times, they are a changin'

You all know how I was unhappy with my FP times on our first park evening at DHS. I mean, I was pretty bummed.

Sometimes though, the stars actually align, and things work out!

Last night I decided to check again and see if I could tweak the times a little, and lo and behold, I could!

It looks like closing time has been pushed back to 8:00pm once again (after being shortened to 7 with rumors of an after hours hard ticket event), and it opened up some later pass times.

We still plan to get to the park around 4:00, and our new FP plans are:

Tower from 3:30 - 4:30
Star Tours from 4:30 - 5:30

Check in for Jingle Bell, Jingle
BAM! at 5:45

Toy Story from 6:45 - 7:45

I also want to meet Olaf while we're in the Star Tours area, since he's over near there. Meeting Chewbacca is also on the "to do" list. We'll skip Kylo Ren this time, since we met him at the Disney Visa M&G at Disneyland in June. Although I wouldn't hate a picture do over, because the ones of me for that meet were abysmal.

It is such a relief to have these times switched around!

I know this is a pretty wimpy chapter update, but I'll have another up tomorrow with MVMCP plans!

Hope your Monday was FANTASMIC!!

I have heard such rave reviews about those candles, I'm sorry they weren't great :(

Love the buttons, especially the NSYNC one!! Kinda wish I had that for my trip!

Glad you were able to get the FP times you wanted!

Good morning!!
It's party time!!

Or time to TALK about party time, at least! I have spent a lot of time obsessing about plans for our MVMCP night. Every time I think I come up with a good idea, I begin to doubt myself.

I have a strong suspicion that no matter what I type out here as a plan, when it comes time to actually go to the party, it will all fall apart! So let's get into...

Chapter Fourteen: (Mickey's Very) Merry Christmas (Party) and Happy Holidays

I kept the *Nsync theme going for the chapter title...it just felt right :-) I told you, the love runs deep. From the floor to the ceiling.

I'm really looking forward to this whole day!

We're going to get up and ready, but not rush around. We have a breakfast reservation at the Grand Floridian Cafe for 9:00am. After we eat, we're going to do a holiday decorations tour of the deluxe resorts. I have two choices for resort order:

Option A:

Monorail from Grand Floridian to MK
Boat from MK to Wilderness Lodge
Boat from Wilderness Lodge to Contemporary
Monorail from Contemporary to Polynesian
Bus to DHS, walk or Friendship Boat back to the Boardwalk

Option B:

Monorail loop
Grand Floridian to Contemporary
Contemporary to Polynesian
Polynesian to MK
Boat to Wilderness Lodge
Bus to DHS, walk or Friendship Boat back to the Boardwalk

Option B is obviously the most logical choice, but what if we just really want to ride in boats that day?? Then we have a backup plan in Option A - haha!!

I have promised X that we'll try to relax more on this trip (umm...what is this word "relax"?? Does not compute!!) and I swear I'm going to try!
After our resort hopping morning, we'll go back to the Boardwalk to swim if it's warm enough, take naps, or walk over to the Swan/Dolphin to look at those decorations (depending on time). We've even considered a round of mini-golf, but I think that will be too ambitious...the overall goal is to rest up enough to make it to midnight at the Christmas party!

We plan to arrive at the Magic Kingdom in time to get inside as close to 4:00pm as the crowds will allow, and go pick up our special party Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom card.

First up will be going to get in line for Jack Skellington as Sandy Claws.

Can I just say how thoroughly disappointed I am that all the reports say he isn't coming out until 7:00pm on party nights so far?? This is really frustrating to me. Disney has set a precedent of him (or him and Sally at MNSSHP) coming out early to get a head start on his giant lines, and I'm sad that seems to have gone by the wayside for this year's parties. I am holding out hope that it will change during Thanksgiving week and into December.

Since we will be meeting him as a group, I thought DH and I could hold the spot in line while the boys go ride something. Or DH and I can switch off and go with them if they don't feel comfortable going on their own. We might get food from Columbia Harbour House or Sleepy Hollow while we're there.

I don't particularly WANT to wait in line that long, but if it gives us more time for party exclusive activities, we'll deal with it. We knew this meet would be a challenge in terms of time management, so it just is what it is.

The rest of the night looks like this (ideally, of course!):

After Jack, pick up some treats and make our way to the line for Scrooge/Donald and depending on time, Minnie/Daisy.

(Luckily, we can skip the line for Santa Goofy since it looks like he's the character meet for the Jingle Bam dessert party!!! My wish came true!!)

Scrooge is the main focus, and in a perfect world, we'd be finished here by 8:00pm. I understand that's a lofty goal.

- At 8:00, make our way to the castle area for the 8:15 Frozen Holiday Wish
- 8:55 VoicePlay (would be willing to skip if necessary, but I don't WANT to skip it)
- 9:20 Tomorrowland Christmas (again, if we had to, this could be skipped - but since Stitch is featured, X wants to see it)

10:00pm Wishes is a true priority, so we'll just do what we have to do.

- 10:30 Mickey's Most Merriest Celebration
- 11:00 parade on Main Street

I would also like to visit Frontierland if we can fit it in, because I really want to see the Country Bears. Same goes for Club Tinsel, so I can see the reindeer, bears, and elves. These could be quick pop in visits, because I don't care about dancing, I just want to see the characters.

Five party hours sounds like a long time, but when you start putting the puzzle pieces together, fitting everything in seems quite daunting!
If there are any party exclusive pins or shirts left, I'd also like to pick up some of those. I really want the AP shirt, since it will be my first party and my first time with an annual pass.

We want to be flexible, but also get in as much party exclusive activities as we can. I really wonder if we can resist the draw of low ride lines! Time will tell!!

Well, that's all for now!! I have a few things I need to take care of today, which is just not fair when all you want to do is Disney plan!!

See you real soon...

I like your party plans. I'm really nervous about the party. Just so much pressure to get everything done in a small amount of time. Like you said 5 hours isn't really that much & that's if you stay for the whole party.

I hope that Jack's meeting time gets moved up. It's just weird that he always came out early in previous years & even this year's Halloween party.

I am enjoying the NSYNC theme! We actually heard them play Merry Christmas Happy Holidays a few times at the party!

Party planning is VERY stressful! Here are a few things I took away from the parties I just attended. Jack not coming out until 7 really stunk! I had heard he would at least be coming out at 6:30 but that didn't happen. I hope that changes for you! We were about 30 people back and it still took us half hour to get to him. Definitely line up as early as you can to be finished as quick as possible. For Scrooge, definitely plan for an hour wait. Minnie/Daisy were about half hour when we went.

Hopefully you are able to do everything on your list!

I am still very sad about the candles  It was an expensive mistake...but now I guess I have three new paperweights?? There's always a silver lining!
So happy to have the FP situation on that first evening worked out!! And I looove my Nsync button :lovestruc

Seriously, the party plans are kind of making me want to pull my hair out. I'm very frustrated about the Jack situation. I'm having trouble not fixating on it, but I'm also trying to be realistic and just appreciate the fact that I'll be there, and it will be fun no matter what.

I would love to complete everything on our list...but the list feels about ten miles long! I've been following along on the MVMCP thread and reading the reports as they come in after each party, and just trying to prepare myself as much as possible.

I'm nervous about the party, too!! For me, in the end, as long as I get to stand in the snow on Main Street, I'm going to call it a successful evening!
Well, ok, that's oversimplifying it a bit!

I am going to constantly remind myself that it's not the end of the world if we miss something...I want to be present in the moment!

Your party plans seem great! I know it's a lot of stuff to try and fit into a 4-5 hour block of time...the last time I did MNSSHP I had the same problem. And we did not plan well enough for Jack and Sally and their line was 2+ hours long! No thanks! :faint: If I ever do another party I definitely know to plan better.

Love your NSYNC button and theme! I was a huge NSYNC fan too so we must be around the same age - and you had to pick either NSYNC or BSB, you couldn't like both! It wasn't allowed:rotfl:

Don't even get me started on those Parkbound buttons...I have 3 sandwich size ziplock bags of her buttons that I have bought over the last year or so. Will we use them all? Doubt it! But they are so dang cute! :rotfl2:

Good point. I'm going to have to remind myself of this.

Haha so true. There was a total battle of the boy bands going on.

Um, if you don't make it to the Swolphin to see the decorations, I will somehow FORCE you to take another trip down there while the Chistmas decor is up. And you don't want to make me do that, do you? Oh, wait......
That stinks about the candles :sad2: I considered ordering some at one time but I'm picky about my candle scents and was afraid I'd be disappointed. But those PB buttons, love'em! I always mean to order some and forget! Hopefully I'll remember for our next trip.
I hope you accomplish a lot at MVMCP, it's definitely hard fitting everything in. When we met Jack & Sally at MNSSHP we got on line at 6:10 and met him at 7:25-he came out at 7 and this as back in 2014. That wasn't bad at all but I feel like we were pretty lucky........and I think Sandy Claws is even more popular

:rotfl2:

I'm really nervous about the Jack line. Ugh. We just plan to make the best of it!

And I laughed at your comment about the "pick a team" boy band thing...LOL!! My best friend and I were die hard Backstreet Boys fans, but then she went rogue and got tickets to an Nsync show with her sister. *gasp*!! I was so disappointed in her!! But then I also gave in, and discovered that Nsync was ultimately the better choice, and with catchier songs. Chris and Lance were my favorites...and there may or may not have been a time when I rewrote the lyrics to Just Got Paid to say Lance Got...something that rhymes with "paid". Ahem. I was always the life of a party, haha!!

Those buttons are like potato chips...can't have just 50! LOL!!

Good point. I'm going to have to remind myself of this.

Haha so true. There was a total battle of the boy bands going on.

I hope I can keep everything in perspective! We can be a support group, lol!

Boy Band Battle...that should be a tv show!!

Um, if you don't make it to the Swolphin to see the decorations, I will somehow FORCE you to take another trip down there while the Chistmas decor is up. And you don't want to make me do that, do you? Oh, wait......

Oh no! Please don't force me to go back! Please! Please....well...oh, ok. Twist my arm, LOL!

I was so sad about the candles!! I'm picky about scent too...the workers at Bath and Body Works or Yankee Candle see me coming roll their eyes heavenward and lift their voices in a chorus of prayer, "Oh, please let her pick something and leave before closing time...Amen."

It's so hard to choose between the parkbound buttons! I'm a little nervous, though...when we were in Disneyland and had to go through the metal detectors, the button from Minnie's breakfast set off the alarm. It makes me worry about our buttons and pin lanyards. Between those and my Alex and Ani bracelets, I'm going to take forever taking off all my gear and then putting it all back on. Better to be safe, I know, but still a pain!

I have a feeling our party is going to be a sell out, so I have got myself all worked up into a frenzy of panic. I panic then I talk myself down, panic, talk down...it's a vicious cycle. I just want to see the snow and the parade on Main St. If I get that, I'll be happy.

My spirit animal! Chris and Lance were my favorites too! More so Chris, though. And I was always made fun of for it!

Yes!!! I had a yahoo email that was chriskirkpatricksgirlfriend, LOL!!! I think it's because I knew Lance was not going to be interested in the long run. Chris got married not too long ago, to someone much younger than I am, who just cannot know how lucky she is. I mean, she was a CHILD during their heyday. Not that I'm bitter or anything...:crazy2:

I love that I'm in good company!!
