Do you wear water shoes in the water parks?

I definitely would like something on my feet. Especially when reading posts about fish hooks and splinters

But socks are only going to protect your feet a little bit from the heat and by a royal pain in the water.

I took my water shoes off for three steps at BB and burned my feet so bad they immediately started to blister.

Because the socks are wet I could walk all over the cement without issue. Never had a problem swimming in the water at all.

Which are better - water sandals (open toe) vs. water shoes (closed toe)? I have to buy my nephews some footwear for WDW (August) and I want to pick the right one.
