Renovation of Yacht Club Lobby, Fall 2020, DFB

What are the differences between the Beach Club and the Yacht Club?

The Beach Club and Yacht Club are similar resorts in terms of service and amenities, and have equal access to the shared pool complex, health club and video arcade. Both resorts have the same management team in place.

Some minor differences have been noted by guests:

Beach Club- club level lounge renovated in 2014, room renovations completed in August 2015
Lighter, beachy décor in lobby and rooms
Lobby can be active and lively with families waiting for meals at Cape May
Closer to EPCOT and Marketplace Gift Shop
Approximately 50% of rooms in all room categories have full balconies. The remaining are standing balconies.
Room attributes include carpets on floor, Cuisinart Pod Coffee Makers (although they have been replaced with Keurigs in some rooms), ceiling fans (ceiling fans may be in the process of being removed from rooms at the BC (2018)
Traditional mini-fridge.
Shared resort bus picks up and drops off at YC first

Yacht Club- renovations to club level lounge started October 2015, room renovations completed in June 2017
Darker woods and nautical décor in lobby and rooms
Lobby is more serene
Convention attendees are more likely to be booked at YC
Closer to Hollywood Studios and Friendship Boats
Most rooms have a full balcony (exceptions: 5163 has no balcony, some rooms have full but enclosed balconies, there are a few extra large balconies shared by multiple rooms)
Room attributes include wood floors, lots of storage units, Keurig coffee makers. No ceiling fans in rooms following the rehab.
Beverage cooler instead of mini-fridge in rooms.
The Market at Ale & Compass is smaller and offers different quick serve food items than the Beach Club Marketplace.
Shared resort bus usually picks up and drops off at the YC first

* Starting in October 2017, pet dogs are now being welcomed in guest rooms at the Yacht Club resort. Additional information posted at the beginning of this post.

TRANSPORTATION

November 2020

Bus Service:

Motorcoach transportation is available to Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, Downtown Disney, Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach.

Pickup/Drop-off Spots at the Theme Parks (check these)

Animal Kingdom Behind Bus Stop 17
Hollywood Studios Bus Stop 28
Magic Kingdom Bus Loop (Maybe Bus Stop 11)

Friendship Boats to EPCOT, Hollywood Studios and EPCOT Resorts:
Resuming Service November 1, 2020

Water launch is available between Epcot and Disney's Hollywood Studios, the Yacht & Beach Club Resort, Boardwalk, and the Swan and Dolphin Resorts.

Boats are supposed to run approximately every 15 minutes- an additional boat was added to the rotation when Toy Story Land was opened.

Each boat makes the full circuit.

EPCOT Int Gateway -> Boardwalk Inn -> Yacht & Beach Club (shared dock) -> Swan & Dolphin (shared dock) -> Disney Hollywood Studios

Disney Hollywood Studios-> Swan & Dolphin -> Yacht & Beach Club -> Boardwalk Inn -> EPCOT International Gateway

Pro-tip: If you are taking the boat from the Beach Club/Yacht Club to Hollywood Studios, especially during busy times, it may make sense to walk to the International Gateway dock to ensure you get a seat on the boat. Sometimes only a limited number of passengers waiting at the YC dock will be able to get on the boat.

Friendship boats are accessible for guests in wheelchairs and ECVs, but are limited to taking 2 of these per boat.

Strollers must/don't have to be emptied and folded once on board.

May 2021:

I have some information about the boat to Hollywood Studio.

They are currently running four boats to DHS, starting at 8am for a 9am park opening. (We saw all four at once). One boat sits at Boardwalk, one at Yacht Club and one at Swan/Dolphin. The fourth boat comes in from the Epcot side of the lake and goes to the BW after the first boat leaves, then YC, then S/D, then DHS.

We crossed the bridge between the Yacht Club and S/D at 8:08am and the fourth boat was heading to the Yacht Club. The first three boats unloaded at DHS very quickly. The fourth boat got to the DHS boat dock just about the same time as we got to the temperature check point, around 8:26am.

The Yacht & Beach Club boat dock was closed for refurbishment in March 2011 but is now open again.

Walking Path from BC/YC to EPCOT and Hollywood Studios

The walk to Epcot takes about 5-10 minutes depending on your pace.

The walk to DHS will take you a little longer but it is a beautiful walk!
The distance from the Beach Club to Hollywood Studios is a little over a mile.

From the Yacht Club, head to the right, over the bridge to cross the canal then proceed along the pathway.

Here's a post from touring plans showing pictures along the pathway from the Boardwalk area to Hollywood Studios.

Walking Path

Timing, from Feb 2019, trishadono:

We walked to HS today. It was an easy walk! Room 7:56( shortly before we left) by boat dock 8:03 by the big BOARDWALK sign at start of walkway 8:08: at park entrance around 8:15 and in line for Starbucks 8:28.

Walking Path Shortcut
If coming from BC, head over to Boardwalk via bridge towards ESPN Club. Walk past ESPN, Ample Hills, Bakery, etc. until you get to the Surrey Bike rental kiosk. Take a left after you pass this, just before the Screen Door store. You'll pass by Wyland Gallery on your right and then take a quick right. Health club and game room will be on your left and you'll come out by the clown slide pool. Stay to the left around the pool and you'll run right in to the pathway to DHS. If you miss the pathway you'll be in the canal!

This shortcut will save approx. 1/4 mile or 5 minutes.

Here's a map created by Robo that explains the walking paths from DHS to Epcot, and places in between, illustrated in colorful detail:

Thanks, Robo, for permitting me to post this extremely helpful picture!

Bus board at BC bus stop, April 2016:

BC%20Bus%20Board.jpg

Early Morning Buses - it is difficult to find definitive answers about what time the morning buses to the theme parks start and how often they arrive at the resort bus stop. One morning, I went out to the Beach Club bus stop at 6:30 to see when buses came .

The buses I saw while I was there were 6:30 MK, 6:52 AK, 6:54 MK, 7:06 AK
MK opened at 9 am, AK was early EMH at 8 am

You can read about that here:

Sunday August 30 -
Bus Stop Babe

December 2017, Katesdad, YC to AK to AKL for Boma breakfast, 8:35 am

Out at the bus stop in front of the YC at 7:05am to catch the AK bus to transfer to AKL for an 8:35am breakfast at Boma. AK had early hours this morning. Bus didn't show until 7:25am but made it to the park in time for those doing rope drop (had to load an electric cart at the YC). We got our AKL transfer around 8:05am and made it in time for our breakfast reservation.

Taxi Cabs are readily available to guests and can be hailed by one of the valet CMs outside of the Yacht or Beach Club lobby front entrances, however...

If you are traveling directly from the Y&BC to MK, the Disney bus will take you directly to the front entrance of the park, but if you drive, or take a taxi cab, you must park/get out at the TTC and either use the express monorail or ferry boat to get to the park

Phone Number for Mears Taxi: (407) 422-2222

Here is one website link to help you determine the estimated cabfare from point to point during your trip: Taxi Fare Finder

Uber Info: (To Be Added)

2018: Uber to DS, drop off is West side zones 8 and 9 where the regular busses are and was less than $10 there. Pickup is at East and West and uses a FIFO (first in,first out) system like a virtual queue. They have designated pick up points once you have booked your request.

Disney Springs:
As with any Disney resort, travel to and from DTD (now Disney Springs) can be torturous. My family has not found the buses TO DS to be all that bad but we HATE the buses that return from DS to BC. The trip takes forever since the buses often stop at a water park, or change drivers, or make dropoffs at all of the EPCOT resorts, or all of the above. And the DS return buses are always crowded. Always.

To avoid frustration, my family usually takes a boat to one of the DS resorts, then a bus to EPCOT, where we enjoy a few attractions before returning to our BC room. It really breaks up the travel. Note: Park Hoppers required. I describe this method in great detail at the end of the FAQ post.

Alternatively, a taxi back to the BC would probably be around $20 including tip, and worth every penny! And Uber ride is even less expensive than that.

Parking:

Deluxe Resorts Parking Fees:

Parking for reservations made June 18, 2019 and thereafter for arrivals in 2020 is $25 per night.
Parking for reservations made before June 18, 2019 for arrivals in 2020 is $24 per night.
Parking for arrivals in 2019 is $24 per night.

Valet parking is also available for $33 per night, plus tip

Click on this link for some comments about parking April 2019 parking

2019:

Parking Fee is $24 per night at the Yacht & Beach Club resort- there are no discounts available however guests staying at BCV on points (owned or rented) or a cash reservation through Disney should not be charged a parking fee since this is already included in the maintenance fee charge.

ALL guest should check their bills closely at checkout to make sure they have not been mistakenly charged or overcharged for parking at the resort.

FAQ:
Experiences at Dog Friendly Resorts

We were there in January 2019. One day when we returned late in the afternoon there was a large dog barking in 5147. We were in 5145. A hotel manager was there. The guest returned about 20 minutes later. The barking stopped and in the next couple of days we heard one short yip.

Part of the dog agreement is that if the dog is noisy the guest must return within 30 minutes. If the dog will not be quiet it must be moved to the kennel. There is a dog walking area.

This link was posted on the Club Level thread. Looks like the reviewer was able to stay on the 5th floor with his dog.

Thanks for the picture missyrose and pixeldust

Legend has it that a gigantic sailor named Stormalong came along some time ago and took these parts by storm, running his great ship aground where Stormalong Bay now stands. His mighty vessel plowed into the shoreline in a fierce nor'easter, tearing into the sand and creating the pools and waterways of Stormalong Bay.

Booking Tip:
Just wanted to share for all those hoping to book cabanas. I had the number stored in my phone & watched the second hand on my clock & called just as it struck 7am. Once the recorded message moves to your options I hit 3 immediately rather than waiting to hear my choices. The next menu began in which the cabana option is just remain on the line. A CM answered immediately! I was able to book my first choice of date which is halfway through our trip. The same CM also offered to help with dining while I was on the line. I know many people have reported waiting on hold for hours so just wanted to share & hopefully help someone!

Your cabana reservation will not show in My Disney Experience unless you add it:

In "My Plans" section on the website, there is a section on the right "Add more plans". Click there and select "notes". You add in your cabana day here.

Poolside Locker and Shower Rooms- Opened May 2017
ETA: REOPENED on June 26, 2021

Reopened in October 2020 after a brief closure due to COVID precautions, then closed again in November 2020. Reopened June 26, 2021

Lockers at Stormalong Bay:

No charge, user-generated 4 digit code.

Please note that these lockers are located near Beaches & Cream but within the gated pool area. In the event of weather-related or other pool shutdowns when guests are asked to leave the pool area, the lockers will not be accessible and you will be unable to retrieve your items until the pool area reopens

Other Information:

Towels are available for guests at Stormalong Bay and the 3 quiet pools.

Outside floats are not permitted for adults in SAB. Pool noodles, either from home or purchased at the Beach Club Marketplace for around $4 each, may be used in SAB. Young children may use floats that surround their body if an adult is within arm's reach. These rules are subject to change and may be affected by crowd conditions.

Child and adult life jackets are permitted in the pool and are available at no charge poolside at SAB. If SAB runs out of adult life jackets or doesn't have them for some reason, the marina can provide life jackets for use at SAB at no charge.

Single and Double tubes for the lazy river and pool are now available in the water up for grabs without a rental fee.

A new chair-style float was introduced in August 2020.

photo of old and new style floats for the lazy river at Stormalong Bay.
note- these floats are currently available in limited numbers

For everyone's safety and enjoyment, diaper-age children are required to wear swim diapers or rubber pants when using any pool at WDW. Swim diapers available for purchase at the Beach Club Marketplace.

Beginning in March 2014, the locker room and showers in the health club were only available to Spa Guests. Poolside showers have been added to the large poolside bathroom May 2017.

Poolside Lockers and Outside Showers

Observances of the operations at SAB following the reopening of the YC resort in August 2020. During Labor Day weekend, there were times when admittance was limited due to the number of people who were at the pool.

We were just there 8/24-27. The chairs were in sets of 3 and 4 with some space in between the sets. As far as masks: the only person we saw with a mask was the CM walking around taking drink orders (not sure if he was also taking food orders but we assumed he was....). We looked around and did not see any guests wearing a mask once inside the pool area and situated on a chair or at a table. We did see a mask flying around the pool deck and that brings up the issue of people wearing them to the pool and then losing them or the wind taking them away once at the pool. We saw some creative ways to store masks for sure, lol, with one family attaching their masks to their flip flops while laying in chairs.

Refurbishment News and History:

Some areas of Stormalong Bay may be closed during the winter months for scheduled maintenance, but there will always be a portion of the pool open for resort guests, weather permitting.

Build a castle or dig in the sand in the shallow beach area. This pool section is zero-entry depth and perfect for little beach-lovers. The kiddie pool is on the Yacht Club side.

Enjoy a swim in the unique sand-bottom pool section. Experience the sinking sands area, which is kind of like quick-sand. Your foot sinks into the sand when you put it down. An unusual, but fun sensation!

Stormlong Bay is a beachside water park that offers up 3 acres of aquatic fun for the whole family. Catch currents in an expansive sand-bottomed pool or a lazy circular river, explore the "Shipwreck" and slide down one of the highest hotel waterslides at Walt Disney World Resort, or simply lie on the elevated tanning deck and soak up the sun's golden rays. With 750,000 gallons of water comprising an impressive complex of pools that range from swirling to placid every member of your family can find a place to make a splash at Stormalong Bay. Guppy Bay Kiddie pool lets even the youngest of Guests in on the fun. There are also 3 Quiet Pools at the resort, open 24 hours/7 days*.

* Posted Hours for the Quiet Pools are 7 am to 11 pm

How do I get from the Jib Slide exit to the entrance of the slide? by pixarmom

To enter the line for the Jib slide, you have to actually go out of the pool area entirely. Once on the slide, you go under not 1, but 2 waterfalls that will definitely dump water on your head. The slide ultimately feeds into 4 feet of water and you come down with such force that you will go under water (unless wearing a vest). The exiting part of the slide is in a roped off area of the pool and a lifeguard will be sitting there. That guard will likely keep others out of the roped off area, so parents are not allowed to "catch" their children coming off. Depending on how adventurous your kids are, you might want to go with them the first time.
The kiddie area of SAB with the little beach area to play on is on the complete other side of where the slide ends. You'll need to determine your comfort level with older kids going on the slide (then exiting the pool area to go on again and again) if you're with a younger child in the kiddie area. That's the one thing I didn't like about SAB. It's so big, it can become difficult to supervise all of your different age kids simultaneously with the many different sections. Maybe this is an issue for others, maybe not, but I thought it deserved mentioning.

With regards to the Jib slide and younger kids...if you stand around where the slide comes out you can walk with them to the pathway where they cross over and watch them go up then walk back to the pool. You'll make it back well before they get down, since there are always at least a few people in line and it's a long way down. Also if you go before your child, you could wait towards the rope for them, the lifeguard may or may not usher you away quickly.

Here's a couple of pictures of the entrance to the Jib slide and Guppy Pool area:

FAQ: Are children permitted to wear floatation devices on the Jib Slide?

A: Yes, subject to the life guard's discretion.

May 2017;

I asked a lifeguard what the policy was for wearing life vests on the pirate slide. She said that you can wear the vests that they provide for the guests but you can't wear flotation devices that you bring from home.

*Please note that adults are not allowed to wait at the exit of the large pool slide.

Resort Activities

Activities change daily and guest will receive an activities calendar upon check in. The schedule for the month will be posted here as soon as it is available. Check the link following the posted schedules to see the calendars for prior months and year.

Some of the activities that take place at Stormalong Bay for guests of the Yacht & Beach Club and Beach Club Villas include volleyball, BINGO, poolside Karaoke, and other fun games. Ceramics, painting and other arts & crafts workshops can be found at various times around the resort- consult the monthly activities guide for details. Movies are shown nightly, either at the Beach Club beach or in the Solarium. Check the schedule to see times for campfires at the beach.

A Campfire and Marshmallow Roast is held on select nights on the beach in front of SAB. Check monthly calendar for the schedule. According to recent reports, marshmallows (a bag of 4) and sticks are provided but if you want to make 'smores you need to bring your own chocolate and graham crackers. I believe these items are available for purchase at the BC Marketplace.

Mermaid School, 2019 🧜‍♀️

Guests can become part of Ariel’s world at the Mermaid School at select Walt Disney World resort hotels. Guests ages 4 and older can enjoy an hour-long class where they’ll be fitted with a swimmable “tail” and led through activities teaching them how to swim in a pool like a mermaid. Mermaid School will be offered on select dates at Disney's Art of Animation Resort, Caribbean Beach Resort and the Yacht and Beach Club.
Classes are $50/person (plus tax). Reservations are now open through 407-WDW-PLAY.

Note: Mermaid school will not be in session from January 5 to February 29, 2020 due to cold temperatures

Review, June 2019:

My daughter just did it yesterday and loved every minute of it! There were 8 in her class (not sure if it was “full” but was the perfect size for plenty of individual instruction). Kids ranged in ages from probably 6-12 and should be a decent swimmer as the fins are not easy to maneuver! They got to do several “tricks” like swimming through hoops and you have the option at the end to purchase (or order) your own tail. The class takes place in the pirate slide pool, which was was the only downfall, as I think it would have been better for them to have more room to move around. At the end they had “free swim” and it was a bit crowded with 8 tails swimming about!

We pre-booked not long after the class was announced. I’m sure it will be based on the class on any given day what the age range will be, but I’d assume she’d be on the older end? We didn’t purchase a tail there but brought home info to order online (they provide a $10 off discount code at the class) and prices range from $109-119 on their website.

Tye-Dye Mickey Shirt Activity
Monday, Wednesday, Friday (Aug 2019)
Guests can make a tye-dye shirt with a Hidden Mickey outline in the center. The recreation CMs have already placed rubber bands on the t-shirts for that particular design. Guests pick the colors and apply them to the shirt. The shirt is wrapped in plastic then placed in a Ziploc bag. When you get home, you just have to rinse it out and wash it. The longer the color stays on the shirt, the more intense it is.

DVC members should ask about a discount on this activity

Thanks for the photos ALMinVA and cindydare!

Ceramics- Sandcastle Club- materials fee charged for this activity

Bring the whole family to create your very own masterpiece. Ceramics must be picked up after 4:30 pm the following day.

2019:

My mom and I did the ceramics painting earlier this year. It was great! The price was pretty reasonable (it depended on what you wanted to paint, but I think my mug was around $15?), they provide all the materials you need, and there was no time limit (which was good for me because I like to take my time with things). The only thing to note is that if you do the ceramics, they have to put it in the kiln, so it won't be available for a day or two, so try and do it earlier in the week. All other crafts you can take with you that day. You could also do any of the crafts any day of the week.

Beach in a Bowl, May 2021

I couldn’t find any pictures of this in my googling, so I wanted to post.
Today my daughter did the Beach in a Bowl craft in the solarium.
$15 each. They pack it up for travel after you are done. I thought it was so cute. Wednesday from 12:30-2:30 on the current activity schedule.

Pool Tables and Ping Pong
October 2016:
Pool table located on upper deck gazebo above Hurricane Hanna’s. If you look at the second picture you can make out the shadowy figure and part of the pool table to the right of the windmill, under the triangular grey roof.

Ping-Pong tables can also be found somewhere within the Stormalong Bay area. And I do mean found- I think they move around from place to place.

February 2016
Wanted to report that DD and I tried Ship Shape Salon for haircuts. Fabulous service and beautiful haircuts. They even gave my daughter an Elsa braid and pixie dust in her hair. If you don't want to spend on BBB this is the way to go. A trim, complimentary braid and pixie dust on cost 24.00. My hairdresser even put some pixie dust in my daughter's Elsa doll. It was quite the treat. My haircut was a lot more expensive as an adult but it was very well done and relaxing. Also, the hairdresser said they have Princess packages as well for kids.

Oct 2014
DW made her way to the Ship Shape Spa for her massage. This spa does not advertise well at all that it offers massages and facials in addition to exercise facilities. Our last two stays at BCV or BWV, DW has walked to the Mandara Spa located at the Swan & Dolphin for a massage. This is much closer, especially when staying at the BCV and according to DW, the massage was just as good if not a little better than what she has experienced at Mandara. No pics from the spa but they do offer a DVC discount.

I've done the mani/pedi at Periwigs.. DD has had a massage at the Ship Shape Club. DD said it's the best massage she's had and she's had a lot!! I forget the name of the girl, but my daughter said she was so good that she actually went back a few days later for another! The mani/pedi was not what I'm used to... I always have that done before I go to Disney. I have however had reflexology at SSR and that was pretty good. ~N

Spa was very nice. Pedi prices were in line with the nice spas by me in NJ, not nail places, but spas. It was 55 plus gratuity for 45 minutes. The 15% AP discount made it even nicer. The massage chairs are comfortable and my feet felt refreshed. Staff was very helpful & friendly. Not a huge selection of polishes, but enough. It was definitely a relaxing atmosphere, but I was basically the only client!!! I would go back for sure.

Albatross Treasure Cruise Reviews:

Pirates Cruise Review- At World's End

Mewissy, Sept 2015:
Albatross Cruise - Wednesday morning my three kids (DD8, DD6, DD6) went on the 2-hour Albatross Cruise that leaves from the YC Marina. They got all decked out like pirates, boated around the lake, stopped in Canada, and eventually came back to open the treasure. They absolutely loved it. My almost 9-year-old was a bit concerned that it would be too young for her, but I think she loved it the most. She was telling me all about how they were enemies with Captain Stinkyfeet and other pieces of the adventure. It was $37/child.

Nole95, May 2013:
In regards to the Pirate cruise, I highly recommend it. The kids did it on Wednesday morning and had a blast. Even though it poured on them at the beginning of the trip, they did not complain about getting soaked. Since there was no lightning, the trip continued on. The cast members were great and made sure all the kids had fun. Great way for mom and dad to have a couple hours of quiet time in the middle of the trip.

Mmrules:
Last summer I sent my sons ages 4 and 6 on this cruise and it was one of the highlights of the trip!!! The woman "pirates" were awesome! They played the parts well and made boarding the boat very easy for my boys (the 4 year old doesn't socialize easily). They heard the legend of the treasure, docked at Canada in Epcot (while it was empty) and found treasure there. THen they chased the bad pirate on their boats. They also got some "loot" when the cruise was over. It was great and I am going to sign them up again next summer when we go!!! He would love it!!!

Disneymomx7:
My kids and my grandkids have done the Albatross Cruise and LOVED it. My kids like it even better that the Pirate Cruise from the GF and my dgs said it was his favorite part of his Disney trip!!!!

Drmomof3:
My children did it in August, 2010. Jessica was 4 and Nathaniel was 6. There were plenty of "solo" children on the cruise and they both made friends. It was definitely a highlight of the trip for them and it gave me some quality time with my neglected 3rd child (he wasn't old enough).

Laundry Information :laundy:

Self-service laundry rooms are located near the BC quiet pool and in between BC rooms 1530 and 1532. There is a laundry room near the YC quiet pool and another small laundry room may be found on the first floor of the YC, near the side exit (wedding gazebo side). There are washers and dryers in the BCV 1 and 2 BR villas, and there is a laundry room available for DVC members in the building.

The machines are HE (High Efficiency) so if you have regular detergent you only use 1/4 of the amount needed for normal washers. Signs in the laundry room say 2 Tablespoons of detergent. Tide Pods work fine in these machines. Detergent may be purchased in the laundry room or in the BC Marketplace.

Disney Resort Laundry View

This website will tell you how many washers and dryers are available so you don't have to make a trip down there unless there is availability. You may also monitor where in the cycle your laundry is through your phone by scanning the QR code from the machine with your phone. You can also set up to receive alerts by text to notify you when the wash is done.

The washers and dryers and detergent dispensers use credit or debit cards for payment. Coins/Cash are no longer accepted methods of payment.

$3.00 per wash load and $3.00 per load for the dryer.

Valet Laundry Service
The Yacht and Beach Club has a valet laundry service where you can send out items to be cleaned by the Housekeeping department. They will come to your room and pick up the items and then place them back in the room when they are finished. The fee is per item by the item.

Reopening on May 18, 2021:

  • Food options from Cape May Cafè
If you ever dream of escaping to the beach and enjoying all the delicious food of an oceanside town, you’ll be happy that Cape May Café at Disney’s Beach Club Resort reopens on May 18! The New England-style restaurant is a perfect location to refuel before and after a day of adventure at Walt Disney World.

Guests returning to Cape May Café will find old favorites and new changes, along with its signature service and quality. The restaurant will serve breakfast and dinner, but Minnie’s Beach Bash Character Breakfast and the Seafood-and-More Dinner Buffet will not return at reopening.

That’s not to say there aren’t plenty of treats in store! The all-you-care-to enjoy family-style breakfast menu will feature popular staples like pastries (including the layered crispy, cream-filled “Lobster Tail”), omelets, and Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse waffles. Highlights from dinner will include house-made Parker House rolls and corn bread, a seafood boil with a variety of fresh seafood, The Turf Platter with steak and chicken, and – my personal favorite – lobster mac and cheese.

Beginning December 20, 2020 the Beaches & Cream Soda Shop To-Go Window is Closed. We do not have info about why or when/if the window will be re-opening. The holiday shakes that guests can typically get at the to-go counter are available for purchase inside the Resort at Martha’s Vineyard.

Epcot Resort Area Counter Service Options (BW/YC/BC) - This info needs to be updated!!!

Here is a link to pictures of the menus at various CS restaurants around the EPCOT resort area. Thanks, Pixarmom!

EPCOT resort Counter Service Menus

The info below is from a sticky on the DIS restaurant forum. Thanks, TDC Nala!!!

ON DDP:
Breakfast: Beach Club Marketplace, Boardwalk Bakery, continental breakfast at Ale & Compass lounge (YC) and Belle View Lounge (BW)

Other meals:
Beach Club Marketplace, Boardwalk Bakery, Hurricane Hannas (BC/YC pool, open during pool hours, wristband admission to Stormalong Bay pool area is NOT required)

Snacks: above plus Seashore Sweets (BW) and the stores at each resort

I do not know if you can use snack credits for any food items that may be available at the Leaping Horse Libations pool bar at BW, someone else may be able to post that.

NOT ON DDP:
Picabu cafeteria (Dolphin), Boardwalk kiosks (Boardwalk Joe's, Boardwalk To Go, Funnel Cakes, Boardwalk Pizza Window)

Here is a link to the menu for Picabu at the Dolphin resort:

If you have park admission, you can also visit CS restaurants inside Epcot or Hollywood Studios.

Refillable Mugs

Refillable Mugs may be purchased and filled with Cast Member assistance at the Beach Club Marketplace (self-serve station), Beaches and Cream (CM assisted service, get into the ice cream takeout line), Hurricane Hanna's (self-serve station) and the Market at Ale and Compass Lounge in the Yacht Club lobby.

Pizza Options at the Yacht & Beach Club:

1) Flatbreads are available in the Beach Club Marketplace which is open from 11 am until 11 pm. See photo above for picture of the flatbread.

2) The Yacht Club and Beach Club In-room Dining Service will deliver pizza to your room.

In Room Dining Menu Link- from allears website: In Room Dining Menu

If you are on the dining plan, you may redeem 2 Adult Table Service Credits for 1 Pizza Entrée, 2 Single Serve Non-alcoholic Drinks and 2 Desserts. According to the dining plan brochure, gratuity is included.

IMHO, this is a relatively expensive way to satisfy your pizza craving!

3) The Boardwalk Pizza Take Out Window is a short walk or boat ride away, Open until Midnight! (Aug 2018):

Boardwalk Pizza Window Menu, 2018

4) Local pizza restaurants will deliver to the resort.

You will need to meet the delivery person in the lobby to pay for and pick up the food.

Here is a thread with pizza delivery information: Pizza Delivery at Disney World

I have personally never ordered from any of the places listed, but these were a few area pizza restaurants recommended by posters on the thread:

Giordanos: (407) 397 0044

Westgate Pizza Hut: (866) 438-2507

Papa Johns: (352) 243-1800

Flipper's Pizza: (407) 938-9633

Under NO circumstances should you order from any place that slips flyers under the door of your resort room (at Disney or elsewhere).
This is a common scam where you are asked to provide your credit card number and you may be charged much more than you authorize.

Here is a compilation of comments about pizza delivery from April 2017 Pizza

Dining at the Yacht and Beach Club for Guests with Special Dietary Restrictions

Eating Gluten-Free at WDW, Disney Food Blog, April 2019

Review of the Beach Club Marketplace from the The Disney Food Blog
Lots of information about ingredients in the baked good and links to resources within Disney for families with food allergies or special dietary needs.

Gluten-Free Dining at Disney's Yacht & Beach Club resorts from Wuthering Bites

AllergyFreeMouse, tips and contact info for helpful resources

I also came across http://www.glutenfreedairyfreewdw.com/ , which has good resources for those dealing with dairy and gluten sensitivities, while at WDW.
There is some very useful info posted, such as http://www.glutenfreedairyfreewdw.com/dining-resources/menus/ , which displays restricted-diet menus available at some resorts and parks.

Here is another article on the subject, Eating Gluten-Free with Mickey

If you have any tips about dining safely at the resort for people with food allergies, gluten-free diets or lactose intolerance, please share them on the main thread and I will post the info here. Thanks!

For guests staying club level with gluten-free diets-Club level has an allergy toaster in the kitchen for people with gluten issues. They toast your stuff there before they bring it to you onstage.

From EasternShoreGal, June 2016
"The marketplace definitely has Mickey waffles. They are served with bacon. So I spoke with one of the cast members who told me that they can do gluten free Mickey waffles, but to be aware it will take a little longer if you are in a hurry. They get them from Cape May Cafe. "

From Wood Nymph, April 2014
"We had breakfast twice at the Captain's Grill and I was able to get gluten free Mickey waffles one morning and gluten free toast another morning. Both times I had ordered the breakfast buffet, which also had plenty of gluten free choices."

From nadira36, September 2014
"AK has a special diets kiosk just passed Flame Tree BBQ House - they have Gluten-free beer, baby-cakes and other gluten-free and dairy free offers. They can also let you know about allergy friendly offers around the park - the more people who use it there, the more likely the other parks get their own kiosk."

From HockeyMomR, June 2015
" I also have a gluten allergy (and hashimoto's thyroiditis) was diagnosed a while ago but have been 100% gluten free since last September. Lounge CM's and chef were great in pointing me towards gluten free options. They will bring you special gluten free cookies / brownies upon request, these were simply delicious. The chef also volunteered to prepare shrimp or chicken gluten free during evening offerings. I appreciated the offer, but was fine with things already provided. Only bummer is the homemade chips are not gluten free but I found many other options especially in the mornings."

Marketplace Gluten Free and Allergy-Friendly Treats

2017:
While I'm on the subject of gluten free, these are on the sign in Beachclub Marketplace, but I did not see them on the counter. I bought them at the Boardwalk Bakery. The brownie was good. The cookie, not so good. It was dried out and not very tasty.

August 2015-
A gluten-free version of the Kitchen Sink is offered at Beaches & Cream.

Milk substitutes at The Beach Club Marketplace and Club Level Lounges
BC Marketplace- Soy milk is available. Almond and Coconut milk have not been seen there (Aug 2015)

Lounges- hope to get reports about what is available from recent guests.

BC rooms have a regular shower head.
All YC rooms have dual showers: a rain head stationary plus the hand held one.

Toiletries:

The personal product toiletries selections offered in the room change frequently and/or are inconsistent. Here is a picture of recent offerings in a Beach Club (standard, not club level) room- June 2018

If there is a product that you would like, but has not been provided to your room, or if you need more of anything, you can always leave a note or speak to your housekeeper to see if you can get that. I do not have personal experience about the success of this suggestion.

The line of accessories is currently Sea Marine- please note that this product is not great for people with color-treated hair.

Coffee Makers:

I believe all rooms at the Beach Club Resort now have Keurig coffee makers and supply pods.

Room Shades at the Beach Club:

Most of the rooms at the Beach Club have black-out curtains, but some of the rooms have Roman-style folding shades. The shades are installed in rooms where there is a single hinged door, with a window or two, instead of sliding patio doors. All of the other rooms have the sheer and room-darkening draw draperies, which do an excellent job at blocking outside light.

Almost all rooms at the Yacht Club have the full sized balconies. The picture below will give you an idea about the two different balcony types and the first floor patios.

Layout of standard rooms

Room Categories

Recent Changes (late 2018/2019):

Regular Club Level rooms are now available only for parties for parties of 4 or fewer guests. Families of 5 or more are no longer able to book this category at the Yacht & Beach Club.

Deluxe Rooms, which do accommodate more than 4 guests no longer include club level access and amenities.

Standard View= can sleep 5+
Garden/Courtyard View= can sleep 5+
Water or Pool View= can sleep 5+

Standard View Club Level= can sleep 4+
Garden/Courtyard View Club Level= 4+
Lagoon View Club Level= can sleep 4+

Deluxe rooms no longer include Club Level access or concierge ameneties

2 Bedroom Suites (Club Level, not on 5th floor)= can sleep 7+
Nantucket Vice Presidential Suite=can sleep 2+
Newport Presidential Suite=can sleep 7+

Detailed balcony information on Deluxe Rooms from guests who have stayed there and reported back:

There are six deluxe Concierge rooms at BC.

1557 has a patio and lots of windows.
2557 and 4557 have extra large balconies.
3557 has the standing room only balcony.

3691 has both a standing room balcony and a full balcony
4681 has a standing room only balcony.

So 3 of the 6 have full balconies, 1 has a patio, and 2 have standing room only balconies.

Here are a couple of threads about Deluxe Rooms:

Beach Club Deluxe, Suites, VP and Presidential Rooms

Rooms in all view categories; standard, garden and waterview- may have a variety of bedding layouts. This includes the regular (not deluxe) Concierge Level Rooms:

Very few rooms have a king bed or single queen bed. These may be requested on your reservation, but are not guaranteed.

The rest of the rooms have two queen beds.

Here is a post from RobinHoodGirl with pictures from her room at the Beach Club with a king bed

Daybeds

Some rooms have daybeds, which may be requested when you make your reservation, but are not guaranteed. Families of 5 (over the age of 3) are given priority access to the rooms with a daybed.

You may also request a rollaway cot to your room when you arrive.

Detailed Room Map (View Categories included!)

I'll keep this outdated map here for historical purposes. Beach Club Disney Zone Map With availability of the availability of the above layout info, this one is now obsolete. It is outdated, pre resort rehab and prior to the addition of the Beach Club Concierge Lounge (the lounge is now on the 5th floor where you see the word "ICE"). The view categories are also different. When this map was created, there were only standard view rooms and water view rooms (no garden view), so many of these rooms now have a different view category than what is indicated on this map.

I started up three View Threads in the Resort Photo Subforum for BC, YC and BCV:

Beach Club Room Views

The purpose of these threads is to give some samples of rooms in various view categories (standard, garden, lagoon/pool) at the Yacht and Beach Clubs.

Step-Saving Super-Secret Entrance/Exit at the Beach Club

Near Room 1501, there is a side entrance/exit to the Beach Club which takes you mere steps, probably 3 minutes, from the International Gateway entrance to EPCOT.

This can be a really handy way in or out of the BC if it is wicked hot or raining.

You have to go through a lot of hallways to find it, so the best way to do this is to follow the signs to Room 1501 from the lobby.

Here are some photos of the exit door near Room 1501, the pathway and the gate to the "secret entrance"

All YC rooms have dual showers: a rain head stationary plus the hand held one.
BC rooms have a regular shower head.

Balconies:

One of the biggest advantages of the Yacht Club rooms vs. the Beach Club is that almost all of the rooms have a full balcony (compared to 50% at BC).

There is one Club Level Room, 5163, that does not have a balcony.
The rooms located below this room, 4163, 3163, 2163, 1163 do have a balcony or a patio as well as a set of windows that overlook the wedding gazebo courtyard.

There are a few "porthole" balcony room as well. The balconies are large, but the view is slightly restricted compared to the rooms with regular balconies. Some of these rooms are at the Marina end of the YC. I'm not sure if they are located in other areas of the resort.

Room 5163 (no balcony) & Porthole Balconies

At the YC, there are 4 rooms on the 5th floor Club Level, 4 rooms on the 4th floor that share balconies, and 4 rooms on the 3rd floor resulting in huge communal balconies. These rooms are in the Standard View category and look out over the Port Cochere and front entrance parking lot.

Shared Balconies at YC

Coffee Makers:

After the renovation of the Yacht Club, coffee makers in the new YC rooms are now Keurig single cup brewers. The Beach Club resort still has the Cuisinart Pod models.

Toiletries:

The personal product selections offered in the room change frequently and/or are inconsistent. Here is a picture of recent offerings in a Yacht Club (standard, not club level) room- June 2018

Lotion is no longer provided in Disney guests rooms (summer 2019)

Please Note:

Some, but not all Yacht Club rooms have pullout daybeds

Bathrooms have either a bathtub/shower combo or a shower unit only.

If either of these options is important to you, make sure you indicate your preference with a room request called into Disney's Central Reservations Office. Requests are not guaranteed, but every attempt is made by room assigners to satisfy guests' rooms preferences.

BBQ Grills-

There is a small grill available for use by guests at the Beach Club Villas located by the Dunes Cove pool [sort of]. There's a path that parallels the canal from the pool to the front entrance of the BC. They are located on the left as you head to BC front lobby. You must supply your own charcoal and utensils.

BCV%20grill.jpg

One grill is just to the right of the "unattended luggage" in front of the sign. You can also see the white table and trash can that complement the area.

Comparison of BCV studio to standard BC resort room

Services and Amenities:

Summer 2019:

To people staying at Beach Club Villas (or any DVC property at Disney World):

There has been a change of policy. You can now get extra towels and extra coffee and coffee supplies (1 package of coffee, 8 sugars, 8 creamers, 8 artificial sweeteners) for free. If you are staying in a 1-bedroom unit or larger, you can now get extra 1-load boxes of laundry detergent for free. In the past, if you were staying on points and you requested these things, you were supposed to have to pay for them, although Disney had been inconsistent as to whether or not you actually were charged.

Additional Amenity Requests
You’ll be provided with the following amenities at no extra charge at the start of your stay and during each Housekeeping service. These amenities can also be replenished upon request at no additional charge:

  • Coffee Package: Includes 1 package of coffee, 8 sugars, 8 creamers, 8 artificial sweeteners
  • Towel Package: Includes 4 bath towels, 2 hand towels, 4 washcloths, 1 bath mat
  • Laundry Detergent (only in 1-, 2- and 3-Bedroom Villas): Includes 1 box for 1 load of laundry
NOTE: Rates are subject to change without notice.

Housekeeping Info:

If you are not using Disney Vacation Club points and paying "cash" you will have daily housekeeping.

Housekeeping is different using Disney Vacation Club points than when you pay nightly for a hotel room.

From the DVC Member Website:

Laundry and Housekeeping Services

Disney Vacation Club Resorts offer laundry and housekeeping services. Daily housekeeping service is not provided for Members.
A 24-hour self-service laundry room is available at each Disney Vacation Club Resort. There are also dry-cleaning and valet laundry services. Villas with one or more bedrooms feature an in-unit washer and dryer.

Trash & Towel Service
For stays of 7 nights or fewer, Trash & Towel Service is provided on day 4, regardless of whether you're staying on a Member-discounted cash reservation, Vacation Points reservation, or a combination of both.
With Trash & Towel Service, Housekeeping will:
  • Empty trash and replace liners in trash bins
  • Provide fresh bathroom linens
  • Replace bath amenities as needed
  • Replenish facial tissues, paper towels and toilet paper
  • Replenish coffee, sugar, cream and sweeteners
Full-Cleaning Service
For stays of 8 or more nights, Full-Cleaning Service is provided on day 4 and Trash & Towel Service is provided on day 8, regardless of whether you're staying on a Member-discounted cash reservation, Vacation Points reservation, or a combination of both. This cycle repeats for stays longer than 8 days.
With Full-Cleaning Service, Housekeeping will provide everything included with the Trash & Towel Service, plus:
  • Change the bed linens
  • Vacuum and dust the vacation villa
  • Clean the bathroom(s)
  • Clean the kitchen/kitchenette and wash the dishes
For all stays regardless of the length of the stay, daily trash removal will be provided. Rental Guests (non-Members or Disney Vacation Club Members not booking through Membership) receive Full-Cleaning Services every day.
For all of the above, additional Housekeeping Services may be purchased.

Additional Housekeeping Service Daily Rates
  • Deluxe Studio: $30 per day requested
  • 1-Bedroom Villa: $45 per day requested
  • 2-Bedroom Villa: $60 per day requested
  • 3-Bedroom Grand Villa: $75 per day requested
Additional Trash & Towel Service Rates:

  • Deluxe Studio: $10 per day requested
  • 1-Bedroom Villa: $15 per day requested
  • 2-Bedroom Villa: $20 per day requested
  • 3-Bedroom Grand Villa: $30 per day requested
Additional Amenity Requests
You’ll be provided with the following amenities at no extra charge at the start of your stay and during each Housekeeping service. These amenities can also be replenished upon request at no additional charge:

  • Coffee Package: Includes 1 package of coffee, 8 sugars, 8 creamers, 8 artificial sweeteners
  • Towel Package: Includes 4 bath towels, 2 hand towels, 4 washcloths, 1 bath mat

BCV%20ShortcuttoEpcot-1.jpg

This picture depicts where the dark brown BCV on the map (green building) meets the light brown BC (blue building)

If you are staying at BCV, you need to know about the Shortcut more than the Secret Entrance. In this photo, the green building is BCV. The blue building is BC. When you leave BCV and want to go to Epcot, you don't have to walk all the way to the lobby and then out the back. Head toward the BC, but look for the path between the green building and the blue building.

Walk down the path until you get to the point shown here where you can't walk straight anymore (because you would walk into the bushes). Turn RIGHT. This is tricky. Your instincts will tell you to turn left, because you know that Epcot is to the left.

Go all the way to the end, and then turn left again. This also is tricky. The path will be so close to the patios of the first floor rooms that you will think you made a mistake and went the wrong way. You didn't.

Follow that path until you reach the gate. The gate will let you out on the main path. Stop and look at where you are, so that you will be able to find the gate on your way back in. Then turn left to get to Epcot.

I suggest doing it in daylight the first time.

As previously discussed, the tubs are regular soaking, not jetted tubs
The doorway to the left of the sink is the closet, which is large, but the door can't swing out because it would hit the sink, so it opens to the inside. If you put a suitcase in there, you can't open and close the door.
Window that used to be in between the bathroom and master bedroom has now been walled up.

Club Level Information

There is a wonderful thread here on the DIS managed by TigrLvsPooh devoted to Concierge/Club Level at all of the Disney Deluxe resorts:

Disney's Club Level (CL) Information and Questions

Recent Changes (late 2018/2019):

Regular Club Level rooms are now available only for parties for parties of 4 or fewer guests. Families of 5 or more are no longer able to book this category at the Yacht & Beach Club.

Deluxe Rooms, which do accommodate more than 4 guests no longer include club level access and amenities.

Contact information for the Beach Club Stone Harbor Club and the Yacht Club Regatta Club:

Disney Signature Services has replaced the resort-specific Itinerary Planning Offices. This centralized service is once again able to help guests with Disney Club Level reservations make plans, including Advanced Dining Reservations for upcoming trips.

Disney.Signature.Services@disneyworld.com or 407-939-7777.

This contact info should only be used for guests who have confirmed club level reservations.

Concierge Check-In Service:

As staffing allows, Club Level guests should be welcomed by name as they enter the resort, and will be escorted to the 5th floor for check-in, however your magic band should be programmed so that it will take you to the 5th floor when you tap it in the elevator. If you are not immediately greeted upon arrival, and need assistance, let one of the CMs in the lobby or at the front desk know and they should be able to help you.

Guests are entitled to the use of the lounge and the concierge benefits from the time they check in (even if their room is not ready yet) until the end of their checkout day.

Amenities available at All Disney Deluxe Resorts for Concierge Guests:

Nightly Turndown Service
High Speed Internet Access (access fees apply)
Bathroom Amenities (shampoo, conditioner, hand/body lotion, bath & facial soap)
Complimentary Fax Assistance
Complimentary Health Club Access
2 Adult-Size Spa Bathrobes (in-room use, additional robes can be requested)

Club Level Assistance from 7am - 10pm (tickets, dining, recreation, special events)

CD/Clock Radios in Suites
Discovery Wildlife Excursion

Purchases made at Disney stores are delivered directly to your room instead of to the resort gift shop

Fast Pass/Reservations Texting Service

There are usually large (glass) bottles of water set out for filling drinking glasses in the lounge. Plastic bottles are not set out, but often are available upon request from the CMs in the lounge if you want to take some back to your room or to the parks. Guests staying club level in December have reported that bottles of water are no longer available upon request, but I suggest you keep asking.

For guests staying club level with gluten-free diets:

Club level has an allergy toaster in the kitchen for people with gluten issues. They toast your stuff there before they bring it to you onstage.

From HockeyMomR, June 2015
" I have a gluten allergy and have been 100% gluten free since last September.

Info about Rooms:

I believe that the regular (non-deluxe, non-suite) Concierge Rooms follow the same layout and are approximately the same size as the rooms in the regular resorts. All regular CL rooms are on the same floor as the lounge (5th floor), accessible by special key-card elevator access.

The Deluxe Rooms and Suites may be on other floors of the resort, but still have access to the Concierge Lounge.

Frequently Asked Questions

Differences between YC/BC, Room Views, Balconies, Daybeds, Room Requests, Online vs. In-person Checkin, Magic Bands, Pool Questions, Secret Exits, Refill Mugs, Ordering Water/Groceries

Lighter, beachy decor in lobby and rooms
Lobby can be active and lively with families waiting for meals at Cape May
Closer to EPCOT and Marketplace Gift Shop/Quick Serve Dining
Approximately 50% of rooms in all room categories have full balconies. The remaining are standing balconies.
Coffee maker in rooms are Cuisinart Pod machines

Yacht Club- renovations to club level lounge started October 2015, room rehabs completed summer 2017
Darker woods and nautical decor in lobby and rooms
Lobby is more serene
Buses pick up first and drop off first at the YC
Convention attendees are more likely to be booked at YC
Closer to Hollywood Studios and Friendship Boats
Most rooms have a full balcony
Post renovation: no ceiling fans, some rooms have showers only (no bathtub), Keurig coffee machines

*Starting in October 2017, pet dogs are being allowed as guests in some YC guest rooms. See Post 1 of this thread for additional information.

Want more details about the differences between the two resorts? Check out this awesome blog post (November 2011) from The World of Deej:

What are the differences between a Beach Club resort room and a Beach Club Villa studio?

Comparison of BCV studio to standard BC resort room

What will the view from my room be?

Effective with reservations on January 1, 2011, the view categories at the Beach and Yacht Clubs were reclassified into 3 booking categories:

Standard view- parking lot or rooftops
Garden view- something green- trees or courtyard
Lagoon or Water view- lake or pool

I started up three View Threads in the Resort Photo Subforum:

Beach Club Room Views

Yacht Club Room Views

Beach Club Villas Room View

The purpose of these threads is to give some samples of rooms in various view categories (standard, garden, lagoon/pool) at the Yacht and Beach Clubs.

Please note that we generally do not recommend that you request a particular room number for your stay at the resort, but instead let the room assigner know what is most important to you:

Full Balcony?
Close to Elevator?
Close to Lobby/Pool/Transportation?
Daybed?

If you request a particular room number, and that room is not available on the day you are checking in, the room assigner may not know the attributes of the room you want, so you may not get the room that best suits your needs.

Reminder Regarding Room Requests

From the beginning of my involvement with this thread, those in the know have advised against asking for a specific room number or group of numbers as a room request.

The staff at the resorts receive numerous faxes daily with requests for specific rooms. With declining staffing at the resorts, sometimes the CMs can’t handle the volume of faxes that arrive daily.

Often the requests that come in do not make sense- either the view for the requested room is inconsistent with the one booked, the bedding is wrong for the party size or in some cases, the room requested doesn’t even exist!

Please be aware that if you are using a service to choose room numbers at a resort that the information they have about the rooms may not be current or accurate.

We have always suggested that the best way to communicate your room request is to call Disney Central Reservations and ask for the specific attributes in the room that you want- “Full balcony, please” “Daybed, if possible” "King bed for honeymoon couple" “Facing back entrance (lakeside)” “Near Elevator” “Far From Elevator” etc. That is the best way to let the room assigners know what is important to your family.

Call the resort 8-10 days before your trip to make sure your request is noted correctly. The numbers you should use for that are 407-934-8000 for the Beach Club and 407-934-7000.

ETA: If you booked your trip using a travel agent, they are the ones who own your reservation so they need to place your room requests or other notes on the reservation.

:thumbsup2

Will I have a full balcony?

About 50% of the rooms at the Beach Club have full balconies with a table and two chairs. The remaining 50% have standing only or "Juliet" balconies.

On the Fifth Floor, Beach Club club level, the percentage of rooms with full balconies is higher, closer to 75%.

If you are staying at the Beach Club and a larger balcony is important to you, you should have "Full balcony, please" as your first and perhaps only room request.

If the room assigned to you at checkin does not have a full balcony, talk to someone at the front desk (in person, don't call) to see if it is possible to change to a room that does have a larger balcony. If not, and you are willing to move after a day or two, ask them when a room with a full balcony will be available and let them know you would like to switch.

Here are a couple of pictures. The first one by pittpantherfan shows BC patio, full and Juliet balcony rooms.
The second picture by Natebenma shows a full size balcony:

balconiesandpatios-1.jpg
IMG_2717-1.jpg

Balconies at BCV:

You will have at least one balcony when staying at the BCV's. All of the BCV studios have balconies. All of the villas have a balcony off the living room. Most, but not all, of the master bedrooms have a balcony. Some of the balconies are bigger than others, depending on what floor you are on and location.

Here's another shot of the balconies at BCV's I made in 2013. First floor=patio. Second floor=large balcony all the way across. We were on the third floor. No balcony in bedrooms but a larger one in living room. And fourth floor=three small balconies each.

And guess what. This layout is not the same throughout. We were on the road side this year (Rm 352) and there different layouts on the other floors.

I doubt if the architect that designed this place had any idea how much trouble he/she was going to cause us..

Will my room have a daybed?

Some rooms at the Beach and Yacht Club have daybeds. You may request a room with a daybed, but it is not guaranteed. You may also request a rollaway cot to your room when you arrive. This is provided free of charge and is subject to availability.

Daybeds

Some rooms have daybeds, which may be requested when you make your reservation, but are not guaranteed. Families of 5 (over the age of 3) are given priority access to the rooms with a daybed.

If you have 5 people on your reservation and there are no rooms with a daybed available when you check in, you will be provided with a rollaway cart, free of charge. You can ask when a room with a daybed will be available if you are willing to move later in your stay.

If there are fewer than 5 people in your room, and your request for a daybed has not been met, you may request a rollaway cot for your room upon arrival. This is provided subject to availability and you should expect to be charged $15 per night for the cot.

Here is a picture of the daybeds in the renovated Beach Club rooms and of the manufacturer's label.

How do I make a request on my reservation? How many requests should I make? What should I request?

Disney resort guests have the opportunity to complete an advanced checkin within 60 days of their stay. See the next comment for more on advanced checkin.

You should note any requests on your reservation through Disney's CRO (Central Reservation Office) if you booked the reservation with Disney or if you used a third party (travel agent, AAA, Orbitz, Travelocity, etc) you need to tell them the request so they can add it.

You can add a request when your trip is booked, or anytime thereafter. Requests should be made no later than 2 weeks before you will arrive at the resort.

Please remember that requests are not guaranteed.

The fewer requests you have, the more likely there will be a room available that meets your most important preference(s).

Your best bet is to request what you want in words, not room numbers. The chance that a particular room will be available during your trip is not as likely as finding a room that satisfies your room preferences. If you request a specific room, and there is someone staying in the room on the day you check in, the room assigner will have to place you in a different room. If they don't know what your priorities are, they will have trouble giving you another room that has the attributes you want.

When you arrive at the resort for checkin, you can ask at the front desk if your requests were granted, and if not, see if there is anything available that meets your needs.

There may not be a room available with the request you made when you check in (e.g. full balcony, daybed, king bed). If your request is important enough that you are willing to change rooms later in the week, ask when a room will be available and see if you can arrange to switch rooms.

Requests vary because what is important to one family may be different for another family. Some popular requests are full balcony at the Beach Club, a day bed, close to lobby (or elevator or Stormalong Bay), close to Concierge Lounge (if you are staying club level) or close to EPCOT.

60 Day Online Checkin

Confirm arrival and departure times

Pick PIN numbers to use for park and resort purchases

Make room requests from a limited selection, often changing and sometimes conflicting options

There is also an option of clicking a box which will prioritize having a room ready upon your arrival but might override other room requests.

Please note that to get the drop-down list of request options, you will need to click on the "Show Details" button on the page which has your transportation and arrival information, credit card info and room notification.

Request for a day bed does not appear to be an option you can request through on-line checkin.

BC%20online%20check-in%20screen%20Aug%202016.jpg

*Once you complete online checkin, you may not change the options selected through your MDE account. You need to call Disney IT to make a change.

Requests that you made by phone through Disney's Central Reservations Office will not appear in your MDE account.

There is an option to indicate you would prefer to have a room that is ready as soon as possible over any requests you made.

Note- the option for full balcony is confusing.

All of the villas have a balcony off the living room. Some of the master bedrooms have a balcony, too, some don't. And all of the studios have a balcony. So, it does seem confusing to have full balcony as a choice unless they are referring to having a balcony for the master bedroom.

*******************************************************
Direct to Room: Starting in 2015

WDW resort guests can now by-pass front desk check-in if they choose

Walt Disney World is beginning a new program that will allow their resort guests to bypass the front desk check-in process if they choose. To take part in this option, guests must have their MagicBands sent to their home ahead of their vacation. They must complete online check-in, including paying in full for their reservation or authorizing a credit card and setting up a PIN. Lastly, they must provide an email address or phone number at which they can be reached. After these things are completed, they will be contacted with their room number and can go straight to their room upon arrival, after being met by a cast member outside the resort.

Please note: If you have special requests that you want to discuss when you arrive at the resort, like a full balcony at BC or daybed at either resort, then I don't think that you want to take advantage of this offer.

If you do online check in and state an arrival time then your entitlements (tickets, dining plan, etc) become active at that time. You can go to a park, use dining credits, etc. Sometimes there is a problem with the reservation that requires someone to go to the front desk. An example would be a credit card glitch. If you don't receive a direct to room text before you arrive at the resort then you will have to physically check in before you can access SAB. But most often you will receive a direct to room text which will let you know the status of your room, i.e. ready or not. If you receive the direct to room text then you are all checked in and don't have to go to the front desk unless you want to talk to them about something. The problem is that you won't know whether you will be able to skip the front desk until your arrival day.

*************************************************************

Should I check-in online in advance or wait until I am at the resort?

The main benefits of 60 day check-in are: (from Andre on POR subforum, March 2013)

You can register your credit card and create a PIN number for all your key-to-the-world cards in advance;
(however, you may want to wait until you check in at the resort to pick your PIN if you are apt to forget it)

Nothing to take up time at the front desk (your welcome pack, key-cards and room number will be put together a few hours before your stated arrival time, so it's all there waiting for you even if you are checking in quite late);

You might even get 'Mobile Lobby' checkin service, where they can check you in using an iPad, rather than even needing to queue for the desk at all.

The room assignment team suggests it too by the way, they say it generally speeds the whole process up for you.

Pool Questions

Can you tell me the hours for Stormalong Bay pool?

Not really.

The hours at Stormalong Bay are determined by the BC/YC recreation managers and are often based on factors like crowd level, time of year, weather, etc. so it is difficult to predict the hours, particularly the closing time at night

See Post 2 on this thread for a historical listing of hours.

Posted hours of the Quiet Pools are 7 am to 11 pm

My trip is in December (November/January/February). Will it be warm enough to swim in SAB?

That depends. Where are you from?

The weather and temperature in Florida can vary greatly in the winter months. One day you are bundled up in coat and wool hat. The next you are in shorts. You can have extreme conditions in the same week.

The pools at Disney are all heated. The problem is usually not when you are in the pool, but it is the air temperature when you get out. Make sure you have a towel close by.

There is certainly a chance that one or more days of your vacation will be warm enough for swimming. As Scar so eloquently sings in the Lion King "Be Prepared!"

Pack your swimsuit and hope for the best!

Can I bring a float from home to use at Stormalong Bay?

According to a lifeguard, July 2010 (and confirmed periodically):

Outside floats are NOT permitted for adults in SAB. Previously, floats were available for rent for $3/hour or $10 day. Beginning in 2013, floats are available for use without a fee. Life jackets are available, free of charge, near where the poolside giftshop used to be.

Pool noodles, either from home or purchased at the pool gift shop, may be used in SAB. Young children may use floats that surround their body if an adult is within arm's reach. These rules are subject to change and may be affected by crowd conditions.

Can children wear a life jacket on the Jib Slide?

Yes.

Can I use Stormalong Bay on my checkout day?

Yes! You will still have your Magic Band after you check out, and you still need to use before entering the pool area. You can store large bags with Bell Services. There are some lockers for use in the pool area near Beaches & Cream and outdoor showers poolside. As of May 2017, changing rooms and showers are available near the restrooms adjacent to the Beaches & Cream restaurant. For more info, see Page 1, Post 2 of this thread.

Is it true that I need to set out a towel on a lounger 3 days in advance to reserve a lounger at SAB?

No. Please don't (see next post)

Is there a playground at the resort?

Unfortunately, no. There is a playground located on the back part of the "beach" between the Swan/Dolphin. The least confusing way to access it would be to use the path that goes by the Swan pool. It's just at the end of that before you actually get to the Dolphin "beach"

"Secret" Entrances/Exits to the Beach Club and Yacht Club

Step-Saving Super Secret Entrance to the Beach Club

There is a side entrance/exit to the Beach Club which takes you mere steps, probably 3 minutes, from the International Gateway Entrance. It is near room 1501.

This was really handy for us a couple of times this summer when it was wicked hot and when it had just started pouring.

You have to go through a lot of hallways to find it, so the best way to do this is to follow the signs to room 1501 from the lobby.

Here are photos of the exit door near room 1501, the pathway and the gate to the "secret entrance"

MORE SECRET PASSAGEWAYS!!!

There is a set of stairs exits into the hallway that is next to the back exit of Cape May, near the restrooms. It is a convenient set of stairs for guests staying in the rooms above Cape May and the restaurant/service area of the Beach Club. The exit stairs were a bit tricky to find. The best way to figure out where they exit in the room hallways is by going up the stairs instead of trying to go down the stairs. ;) The stairs are located at the end of the short wing above Cape May, next to room 3638. There are also two other set of exit stairs in this section of the resort which exit into the kitchen and staff area. You want to avoid using those stairs.

Tell me about the RFID Rapid Refill Beverage Mugs

In August 2013, Rapid Refill machines were installed at BC Marketplace

There is a chip is on the bottom on the mugs. The "length of stay" mugs are really 14 day mugs. Let's say you check in today at the BC and purchase the length of stay mug. It's good at any Disney resort (and now they are saying only resorts, not water parks) for 14 days. So you can do split stays, you can go on a 3 day cruise and come back and for 14 days, your mug works. If your reservation is for 17 days, you bring the mug back to merchandise on the 14th day and they will reprogram it for the next 3 days. They can "read" the chip that is on the mugs so they can tell the day you purchased it, etc. As far as losing one, you MUST show your receipt.

If you purchase a one day mug at 9 PM Sunday night, it stops working in three hours. Midnight is the cut off time ... doesn't matter when you purchase them.

You cannot microwave these mugs. It fries the chip. If you bring it back to merchandise with a fried chip, then you are out of luck, receipt or not.

There is also a regular old cardboard cup that can be purchased for a few dollars. It is good for 2 hours and/or 4 refills. It also has a chip on it.

The dispensers only dispense 12 ounces at a time and once you use your mug for a fill-up, you cannot get another fill-up for 2-1/2 minutes.

Note: This picture is NOT from the BC resort!!!

Disney Rapid Refill Mugs

Some of the specific details:

Rapid Fill allows guests to use the mug for beverages for number of days you are staying at Disney, even if you change resorts. RFID chips are embedded in the mugs and will only allow usage for the length of your stay. At the end of your stay, the mug will automatically deactivate.
The Rapid Fill mugs can be used at any resort hotel quick service fountain, regardless of where it was originally purchased. Although, we are not sure how practical a benefit that will be to most guests.

(Side note: days are counted as a calendar day, and not a 24 hour period!)
As with the current refillable mug program, it will be included in some Disney Dining Plan benefits. Past mugs will not be able to be reused, and a new mug will need to be purchased for each resort stay.

What is a Club Level room? Is Concierge service worth it?

For info and pictures about club level at the Beach and Yacht club, see Post 12 on this page of the thread.

Ninjamom, December 2012
Continue reading on, starting at page 35 of the Nov/December 2012 thread for lengthy discussions about club level

A blog entry from Everything Walt Disney World gives a very well written, comprehensive description of the Concierge service offered at WDW resorts, including the BC and YC. The article will also give you the factors to help you decide if club level is worth it for your family.

Google Disney's Club Level- What is it and Do I want it?

How do I get to EPCOT?

Guests of the EPCOT resorts enter EPCOT through the International Gateway. This entrance takes you to the World Showcase, on a path that is in between France and UK.

IGWalkway-2.jpg
IGSign-2.jpg
IGbypixarmom-1.jpg

Please note that there is also a path that veers off to the right and takes you on a more level route, perhaps easier if you are in a wheelchair or pushing a stroller because you can avoid the slight incline. In the middle picture above, the main path is on the left, you can barely see the "secret" path that runs along the water on the right.
Note: This pathway is now a smoking area. The previous designated smoking spot in that vicinity was displaced by the trams.

Thanks for the pictures missyrose and pixeldust and pixarmom!

A video stroll from the Yacht Club to the International Gateway:

A leisurely walk times at about 8+ minutes. This was filmed prior to the extra security/metal detector that guests now pass through, before scanning their bands or tickets.

How do I enter EPCOT at rope drop/park opening?

Guests who enter EPCOT through the International Gateway prior to 11 am (official World Showcase opening time) should proceed on the walkway outside of UK and past Canada. Cast members are stationed along the way to guide you.

Frozen Ever After...

Note: Starting in 2013, the French bakery is now open at 9 am when EPCOT opens, so you also have the opportunity to stop there in the morning for a treat. Not sure at this point if the bakery is open at 8 am when EPCOT has early extra magic hours, so if someone could confirm this info, I would appreciate it!

If you have a pre-opening breakfast scheduled at Akershus Royal Banquet Hall or Garden Grill, you will provide your name and/or reservation to a CM at the International Gateway. You proceed through UK and Canada as described above, then continue past Mexico to Norway or head into Future World to get to the Land building.

Disney runs special bus service to runners and spectators on race mornings for guests who need to get to race areas before the parks open. They will post signs in the EPCOT resort lobbies and near the International Gateway warning people that they will not be able to walk through EPCOT prior to park opening on race days.

However, guests of the BC/YC/BCV who need to be at the front of the park BEFORE park opening (for example, for special tours) will probably need to take a taxi from the resort to the front entrance of EPCOT.

Should I take the bus* from the Beach Club to the Magic Kingdom or go through EPCOT and use the monorail?

We always take the bus from BC to MK!

Bus is definitely quicker:
The ride is less than 15 minutes from BC to MK, then you just have to add in the wait. I think 15 minutes is the most I have ever waited for a bus, it is usually around 5 minutes.

Here is a very conservative estimate of the trip from BC-EP-mono-MK:
5 minute walk to International Gateway, bag check and entry at IG
walk though United Kingdom, Canada and Future World to EP front entrance, 25 min
wait for mono ?
mono from EP to TTC plus changeover to express monorail, 15 min
mono to MK, 5 min.

So a minimum 50 minutes, with a lot of walking, an extra bag check and switching monorails.

Please note: You need Park Hoppers and EPCOT must be open if you are doing this.

That being said, we often take the monorail back to the BC from MK. That way, we can enjoy a couple of attractions along the way, or get some takeout from Sunshine Seasons or one of the World Showcase restaurants on the way back to our room.

* even if you have a car on property during your trip, it probably makes sense to take the bus when you are traveling to MK. If you are driving, you will have to park at the TTC and take the monorail or ferry boat to the MK entrance. If you take a bus, you are delivered to the front entrance. A taxi cab is another option, but again, this will only bring you to the TTC, so you may want to have the cab leave you off at the Contemporary Resort and walk or take the monorail, or to one of the other monorail resorts.

Where can I purchase and refill a refillable mug?

*Need to update info- Marketplace at A&C at Yacht Club- New Coke Freestyle Machines...*

Refillable Mugs may be purchased and filled at the Beach Club Marketplace (self-serve station), Beaches and Cream (CM assisted service, get into the ice cream takeout line), Hurricane Hanna's (self-serve station) and the Marketplace Ale and Compass Lounge* in the Yacht Club lobby.

Pixarmom provided pictures of the beverage dispensers at the Marketplace and Hurricane Hanna's.

I've heard there are no Counter Service options at the EPCOT resorts. Is my family going to starve???

Um. No. Check out this link- pixarmom walked around the area and took pictures of the menus of all of the counter service restaurants in the area. Thanks!

Are the lobbies of the Beach Club and Yacht Club connected?

No. Yes. Kind of...

There is a corridor that will take you from the BC lobby to the YC lobby. Some of it is inside, some of it is open to the outside, but the entire route is covered.

From the Yacht Club lobby, you walk inside until you reach Yachtsman's Steakhouse, then you have to exit. You walk outside on a covered walkway, past the hair salon, exercise room & Beaches & Cream. Then you go back inside into the Beach Club, on the far side of Cape May, around the hallway & into the BC lobby. You will be protected from rain, unless there is a real downpour with lots of wind.

In September 2014, Wood Nymph timed the walk from the YC lobby to the BC Marketplace: 5 minutes ETA: natebenma got the same results, 5 minutes, in August 2015.

Can I ship a package to Beach Club or Yacht Club for my stay?

Click here for info about shipping to/from Disney resorts from WDW website

If you ship a package to the resort, Mail by United States Postal Service*, not anything else!!! If you mail other than USPS, your items will be shipped to the business/convention center and the shipping department will charge the recipient a handling charge, based on the weight of your package. Also note that the pickup hours at the business center are limited, especially at night and on weekends.

In November 2016, it was reported that throughout Disney, packages that were mailed to the front desk of resorts may be subject of a $5 (current fee is $6, 2019) per package delivery fee. As of early December, we have not received reports of guests being charged. It also does not appear to apply to actual merchandise deliveries from places like Garden Grocer, Amazon Now or stroller deliveries.

2019 Parcel Handling Fees

Handling fee includes receipt of item from carrier, storage for up to 3 days, onetime Guest package delivery or pickup, placing item with carrier for shipment, and tracking. Postage is not included.

Please note that this pickup/handling fee applies to deliveries from places like Amazon, Amazon Pantry, Staples or other businesses that ship using UPS or FedEx as these will be sent to the Yacht and Beach Club Convention Center.

Can you see any of the Illuminations fireworks from places around the resort?

There are a few places where you can view some of the high fireworks from EPCOT's Illuminations show. Many people recommend watching the fireworks from the bridge between the Beach Club and the Boardwalk resort areas. You can also see some of the high fireworks from the Beach Club beach or from the Stormalong Bay pool. Wood Nymph recommends the Yacht Club boat dock. Another suggestion (EagleScout) is to view the fireworks from the bridge connecting the YC and Swan resorts.

I shot these using my remote shutter through the Nikon app. When I do that it also saves the images (as jpegs) to my phone and then my phone automatically uploads to Google Photos. I messed around at the airport on the way home and created a nice little animation with it using the jpegs so I'm going to try and post that. I did edit the RAW files so these aren't my "edits", and some of the shots didn't turn out great, but the animation was pretty cool and should give you a good idea of what to expect. Lets see if I can pull this off.

This was VERY cool, but unfortunately, the link is no longer working :(

Here's a link from my August 2014 trip report with pictures of the Illuminations Fireworks and the Summer Frozen Fireworks from the Boardwalk Bridge.

What kind of coffeemakers are in the resort rooms?

The regular resort rooms and club level rooms (including Deluxe Rooms) at the BEACH CLUB and YACHT CLUB have Keurig single brew machines

Beach Club Villas- Mr. Coffee-type makers (10 cup for 1BR, 2BR and the refurbed villas)

*
Melita and Senseo both have coffee pods. I bought the Melita pods at Walmart. Here is a link to the Walmart ad:

Coffee Pods from Walmart

Pods are also available for purchase from Staples/Staples.com or Amazon.

Guests are always welcome to ask housekeeping for as many pods as needed during your stay.

I don't "do" Nescrape! Is there anyplace at the resort where I can get a REAL cup of coffee???

From guests in August 2013:
Grounds-breaking News: The coffee pods in the rooms and the coffee sold in the Marketplace is now Joffrey's coffee!!!

Ale and Compass is located just off the Yacht Club Lobby, open at 6 am (I believe).

In the morning, breakfast items are available like a DECENT cup of coffee and tea, pastries, an assortment of cereal and fruit. This location also serves as a refill station for your refillable mug until 11 or noon.

Is there WiFi available at the resort? Is it free? Is it any good?

Yes and Yes and :confused3! In late 2011, the BC/YC/BCV started offering free WiFi in the resort common areas and in the guest rooms!

We have heard very mixed reviews about the speed and reliability of the WiFi connection at the resorts.

Will it fit???

Beach Club/Yacht Club Room Safes:
Does an ipad fit in the room safe?

Dimensions- Length: 14 inches, Width: 5 1/2 inches, Height: ??

Yacht Club safe, 2017:

Here are a few experiences from guests:
(check dates on these...)

I don't know if this is in the Room info post, but I was worried that my laptop would not fit in the wall safe as they are a fair bit smaller than the box ones elsewhere in WDW. I can confirm that a 15'' MacBook Pro fits' in the save with around 2 inches to spare around in all 3 dimensions :)

I was able to fit two iPad's, a Kindle, a wallet, and a wallet size zippered pouch in our BC safe. Nothing got smooshed or broken. I wish it were a tad larger so I could have put the kid's iPod's into it, but oh well. I was impressed with all I DID fit in there. :)

Going back to the safe question I do think there are different sizes, last year my macbook pro wouldn't fit in the safe in BWI CL but it has fit in the safe in OKW.

If you have valuables that won't fit in the safe in your room, there are a couple of things you can do:

The front desk has a safe deposit box you can use.

You can check your items at Bell Services and they will lock it in the cage.

Will a gallon of milk fit in the room fridge?
Please note that the refrigerators in the Yacht Club post-renovation are different than the ones in the Beach Club rooms- see below for descriptions and pictures of the mini-fridges in both resorts:

At least one half-gallon will fit in the door and possibly more in the main compartment. AT THE BEACH CLUB

These are the refrigerators in the newly renovated YACHT CLUB rooms (2017)

Thanks for the pictures Derry Wade and pas130

We did have to move the shelves around a bit, into the two uppermost slots. It was actually easier to fit the gallon jug into the new fridge vs. other mini-fridges, because there's nothing poking out from the door, and you don't lose any space to a freezer compartment. Other times we've had to put gallon jugs on their side to fit, depending on exactly where the compressor is and how the shelves sit.

Past Discounts

BOUNCEBACK IS BACK!!! :tigger:

What is a Bounce Back Offer?

Bounce Back is a promotion offered at selected times throughout the year offering a discount on a future trip if you book WHILE YOU ARE STILL AT THE RESORT. It used to be left on a card in your room or could be found in the Be Our Guest guide received at check-in. December 2016: Reports from Disney guests in all resorts are reporting inconsistent availability of printed information. Some guests have received emails with Bounce Back info during their stay at the resort.

You can also dial #8844 from any resort phone to see if a bounceback promotion is being offered and what the eligibility requirements are.

Please note- there may be a couple of different bounceback offers for the same dates of stay- percent off room rates or free dining. Call and ask!

You MUST book it before you check-out. Once you get home, you can change the dates or cancel it. However, once you check-out, even if you give them your reservation number and say you were just there, they won't allow you to book it.

What is that awesome smell at the Beach Club? Where can I purchase the bath products used at the Yacht Club?
I've never slept better in my life- can I buy the mattress?

Yes!!!

Want to feel like you are living at the Yacht or Beach Club all year long??? You can purchase the body products provided for use during your stay, you can buy the same type of mattress that encourages restful vacation sleep and you can even purchase the scent system used in the lobbies so that your house can smell like your "Home Away from Home":

Check out the Disney Resort Collection for bedding and bath products (h2oProducts, Aquatics line)

Ooo-Ooo, That Smell!

The smell in the lobbies of the Beach Club and Yacht Club is green clover and aloe, generated with the Enviroscent system/ www.scentairhome.com
note: The unit is quite expensive (around $300 plus cost of cartridges). The company has sold it to individuals in the past but some recent reports indicate that the companies have not been accommodating to non-business customers.

Top Ten Disney Smells by Disney Dining

Bring Disney Smells to Your Home by Disney Avenue

Reviews/Recommendations/Testimonials:

We have found this to transport us back to our stays at YC.

I have the Beach Club Spireside. They don't have the strongest smell when burning but definitely smell of the Beach Club :) I have burned one and have one living in a drawer - saving it! However, I have also found that Yankee Candle "Beach Walk" reminds me of the Beach Club (your opinion may differ!). Don't know where you're based but in the UK Carex antibacterial Aloe Vera liquid soap also smells reminiscent of the BC.

About candles... I bought the Beach Club candle from Circa 1955, I really like it! It comes in two sizes.

I have! I bought them when they were called Anthology candles. ETA: Company is now called Spireside Candles.
The beach club candle is 100% like walking into the lobby. I bought 6. I also bought the Soarin and the black pearl. ALL are exactly like you're in the very place at WDW where those scents are present. They burn beautifully. Clean, and even all the way to the bottom of the jar.

There are other candle makers that do Disney scents, but this company is the only one I've found that has it right. They are hand poured, and they have done in depth research, clearly. And they will fragrance your home. It's not just the candle smells good, but when it's burning you have to be in top of it to smell it.

Check out this website! I, too, am obsessed with the Beach/Yacht Club scent! This company has a similar scent in a candle and wax tart form. We LOVE it!

Beach club lovers. After 5 years I have found the closest smell to the lobby smell in my opinion so far!!! Low and behold.....

Comments, Compliments or Complaints:

Who can I contact if I have concerns about something during my vacation, I have a great suggestion or better still, to compliment something wonderful about my trip or to recognize a CM who helped make my stay magical?

If you have an issue while still at the World:

You can go to City Hall or Guest Relations during your stay

If there is a problem with your room or another issue at the resort, your best bet is to go to the FRONT DESK of the resort to let them know what the problem is. Do NOT call on the telephone with resort concerns WHILE you are AT THE RESORT. These calls just go to a generic call center and your concern is placed at the back of a list. Tell the people who are on site and chances are, if it is possible, your concern will be dealt with more quickly. They will do their best to help find a solution to your needs, whatever they may be. In the off chance that you find that your problem is not being addressed in an effective manner, request to speak with a MANAGER, who often has the experience to assist the CM in helping to find a solution to your problem.

Keep in mind that the staff at the resort can't read minds so be sure to talk to someone and let them know what the problem is.

After you have returned home from your stay:

email wdw.guest.communications@disneyworld.com

or send a letter to:

Walt Disney World Guest Communications
Executive Offices
Post Office Box 10040
Lake Buena Vista, Florida 32830-0040

When you write or email, please include your name, address, phone number and email address.

If it is a comment specific to the Yacht & Beach Club, you can write to or email the General Manager of the resort (perhaps copy Guest Communications as well).

Yacht & Beach Club General Manager (December 2017): Kim Marinaccio

WDW has set up a new Twitter account to handle all the #CastCompliments guests send in!

https://twitter.com/CastCompliment
This account will be 100% devoted to recognizing the incredible Cast Members that make Disney Parks what they are!

Tag @WDWGuestService and use #castcompliment in your tweets, and we'll broadcast the highlights!

Are surveys still a thing???

Another excellent way to be heard is through surveys. Surveys are sent to every guest by mail or by email after a stay.

The surveys are reviewed at the actual resort as well as WDW with a fine tooth comb!!! It's the perfect way to get your comments (good or bad) about the resort and/or cast members and/or experiences during your vacation.

If you were given incorrect information from the Central Reservations Booking Office, or if you want more resort-specific merchandise in the gift shops or if you want to recognize a CM who went out of their way to make your trip magical, this is a very effective way for the powers to be to see your message!

Where can I rent a stroller, scooter, wheelchair or other mobility items during my stay?

Disney Theme Park Wheelchair Rental

A limited number of complimentary wheelchairs are available to guests staying at WDW resorts. A refundable $315 deposit is required.

www.KM-Rentals.com and Mobility Equipment Rentals both deliver to the resorts and both run about $125 weekly. KM-Rentals offers free delivery and pick-up ... not sure about Mobility Equipment Rentals.

I have also heard great reviews about Apple Scooters for rental/delivery of strollers, scooters and wheelchairs, www.applescooter.com

Here is a link to a post with info and reviews about scooters by Mickey & Minnie Mom: http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=51492673&postcount=195

A piece of advice about charging your scooter: Charge your scooter in your room. There are limited outlets outside the room, and if you leave the scooter to charge overnight, someone else may come along, unplug your scooter to use the outlet. The next morning, you will discover your scooter has not been charged.

A tip in case you rent an ECV and do not have a room that the door stays open longer (handicapped accessible):
Bring with you a door stop to get the ECV in the room. It is very difficult for someone to stand and hold the door open while someone drives the ECV in. (I am speaking as the door holder whose foot was run over at least twice a day until we bought the door stop).
I do agree that renting from offsite is much better and the DISabilities thread is full of helpful folks.

Here are a couple of pictures showing where you can store an ECV (or two!) in standard Beach Club rooms:

You can also find an entire DISabilities forum here on the DIS.

Here is what Ninja Mom, who has had a bout with cancer herself and is missing a part or two, has learned to do when going on a Disney trip....
1) Have realistic expectations
2) Plan Ahead!
3) "Zig" when everyone else "Zags" to avoid the crowds and spend less time waiting in lines
4)
Go EARLY at park opening, LEAVE at Lunch time and go back to the hotel for a rest. Go out again for dinner and an evening of more attractions.
5) Start walking now

How Do I Bypass the Motion Sensor/Temp setting in the Room Thermostat

How Do I Keep My Grey Goose Slushie from Sloshing out of the Flismy Cup They Gave Me?

About the only problem with the Grey Goose Slushie is that it is sold in a very flimsy martini glass. I find that as I drained more and more slushie, I was surprisingly more and more likely to tip over the cup while booking across the World Showcase trying to balance the cup and also snap pictures while walking. There must be a better way!

Very important tip from pixarmom: Use your refillable mug for the slushie. Pop on the lid. Insert straw. Enjoy!

Pictures

A refillable mug provides a 'stealth' container so you can travel with it out of the parks and back to the Beach/Yacht club. Florida has a "No open container of alcohol" law so if Cast Members see you coming toward the exit of EPCOT with what's obviously a slushie or other alcoholic drink they will tell you to finish it or dump it.

~So take a container or chug the remainder!~

Can you explain "String-Bag Theory" to me?

Well, I am no physicist, but yes I can!

Some of you know that I have an unhealthy obsession with string bags and Ziplocs.

1) On days when we don't need ponchos, we try to only bring what we can carry through in our hands or pockets. Folded backsack(s) in back pocket. Cell Phones and small point & shoot cameras in shorts pockets or larger camera hanging around neck (no camera bag)- extra memory cards/batteries in pockets. Carry bottles of water.

Once you are through bag check, you can take the folded backsack out of your back pocket and empty the things in your pockets, plus the drinks, into the sack to make it easier to carry.

2) This is how we packed our ponchos for the Disney parks last July.

We rolled our ponchos into a large (2 or 2 1/2 gallon bag). Any other stuff we brought into the parks, like moleskin, extra memory cards, camera batteries and journals for notes, went into another, smaller plastic bag. We also carried another empty large ziploc to keep everything dry if it rained. We would wear the ponchos and then the string bag and contents would fit into the bag. When it stopped raining, we tried to wring out the ponchos, roll them up and place them back in their bag so they didn't get everything else wet.

It was great going through bag check. We had two clear see-through bags that the checkers didn't even have to open- just look and give a quick squeeze. Someone else carried the deflated string bag in their pocket. Once past that point, the two bags went back into the string bag.

PS- my bag was custom made by DISer Mickeystoontown. She often adds a Mickey Head outline decoration to the bag but I preferred to have mine without one.

PPS- the observant reader may notice that some of these bags are Hefty, not Ziploc. A rose by any other name...

When you have selected all of the posts, go to the bottom of the page and click on the POST REPLY button. Post a Photo on the DIS? Direct Upload- resizing

With the new DIS server (Feb 2015) pictures can be directly uploaded to the DIS using the "Upload a File" feature. Two things to note- files that are too large will not upload and must be resized and when you quote a post that has a direct upload, you will not get the photo in your response box, you will just get a message that says "Attach XXXX"

To resize a single photo:

*Make a copy of the photo first, so that you don't alter the original photo file*

Click on/highlight the copy of the photo
Select "Open with Paint" or other photo editor
Select the resize option (two superimposed rectangles in Paint)
In the horizontal or vertical box, change from 100 to either 50 or 25- both work
Click OK
Then click "Save" icon that looks like a floppy disk.

That photo should be ok to directly upload onto the DIS.

To resize a group of photos, use "Send to Mail recipient Method"-
I have been promising for years to write up the instructions, but it has been so long since I have done it that I can't remember all the steps when resizing a large batch of photos. It had to do with copying the photo, choosing the options to "send to mail recipients" and then a box would pop up allowing you to select a size. After you emailed the photos to yourself, you had a group of resized pictures.

Traditional Method using Photosharing Service and photo link:

Post a Photo on the DIS?

sub-lesson: Upload all of your pictures into Photobucket in Large, not Full-size, format

How NinjaMom packs for a trip

A Simpler Approach from Best Aunt

Packing bottles of liquid (adult beverages) in checked luggage

And a couple from natebenma:

If you are bringing more than 1 suitcase, make sure you have at least one outfit for each traveler in each piece of luggage. If one bag gets lost, at least everyone will have something to wear.

Legos- these are my sons' favorite souvenirs. In order to get our haul home after a trip to the Lego Store, I open the box and pack the individual bags in our suitcases. Much less bulky. If you want to save the box, you can flatten and put a the bottom of your suitcase.

Essential items: Don't forget the chargers/batteries for your phones and cameras. A booklight if you will be reading out on the balcony in the early morning hours. Ziplock bags of all sizes! Many many uses for these. Swim goggles. Moleskin to help prevent blisters from forming. Glide body stick for chafing issues.

One Suggestion for Avoiding Frustration on your return trip from DTD-Dee's tip for avoiding the worst leg of travel in the World!

Please note that the opinions expressed are those of Natebenma alone (but have been been expressed by everyone else I have ever talked to)

The return trip from Downtown Disney to the Yacht & Beach Club, or to any resort for that matter is notoriously torturous. It's bad! We have not found the buses TO DTD to be all that bad but we HATE the buses that return from DTD to BC, it takes forever since the buses often stop at a water park, or change drivers, or make dropoffs at all of the EPCOT resorts, or all of the above. And the DTD return buses are always crowded. Always.

This is what we do, and it has made our trips to DTD SO much more enjoyable. Not faster. But funner! You need park hopper tickets for this, which IMHO is a great idea anyway when you are staying at BC/YC. It also requires that you return prior to the closing time for EP- either 9 PM or midnight on EMH nights.

When we are on our way back to the Beach Club, we take one of the DTD resort boats (to POR, OKW or Saratoga Springs). We find the bus stop at the resort and hop on a bus to EPCOT, then we walk through the park, enjoying attractions along the way.

ETA: with new FP enforcement rules, this perk may be kaput

Here are the two posts from my TR where we did this.

July 2010

July 2009

A similar method works for us when we are traveling from another resort back to the BC- we take the monorail or bus to EP first.

Beach Club Villas Comparisons

Some good advice from @Best Aunt "Any time you are considering a DVC (villa) room, you need to make sure you know what the bed configuration is, and whether that works for your group. When the website says that a DVC room "sleeps" a certain number of people, that does not mean everybody gets a real bed. It can include sofa beds, small pull-down beds, larger pull-down beds, and sleep chairs. "

And now, please rise for the Beach & Yacht Club FAQ Official Anthem:

Then of course there is that Song Wasted Away in Beach Clubaritaville.
Here are the lyrics to that:

Nibblin' on cup cakes,
watchin' the sun bake;
All of those tourists covered with oil.
Strummin' my six string on my full balcony swing.
Smell those shrimp At Cape May Cafe
They're beginnin' to boil.

Wasted away again in Beach Clubaritaville,
Searchin' for my lost shaker of salt.
Some people claim that there's a Greeter to blame,
But I know it's nobody's fault.

Don't know the reason,
Stayed here all season
With nothing to show but this brand new magic band.
But it's a real beauty,
A Brazillian cutie, how it got here
I haven't a clue.

Wasted away again in Beach Clubaritaville,
Searchin' for my lost shaker of salt.
Some people claim that there's a Greeter to blame,
Now I think, - hell it could be my fault.

I blew out my Fast Pass,
Stepped on a Chair hog,
Cut my heel, had to cruise on back home.
But there's booze in the blender,
And soon it will render
A Sunken Treasure that helps me hang on. (*note, the ST is not a frozen drink, but maybe it should be!)

Wasted away again in Beach Clubaritaville
Searchin' for my lost shaker of salt.
Some people claim that there's a Greeter to blame,
But I know, it's my own damn fault.
Yes, and some people claim that there's a Greeter to blame
And I know it's my own damn fault.

This just in! As of March 2013, the pins have all been distributed! Thanks Nannette for taking on the task of mailing these out!

Are you staying at the Yacht or Beach Club or the Beach Club Villas and want to meet or be recognized by other DIS'ers? Thanks to a wonderful design from RustManFan of the Creative Designs Forum, and the enthusiasm of DIS'er Janloz, we now have fashionable pins available upon request and free of charge!

Bye Bye Bon Bons

I have an announcement that may be upsetting to some... The chefs at the resort are no longer making Oreo Bon Bons for sale in the Beach Club Marketplace gift shop. This was once the signature dessert at the Cape May Clambake, but I believe they were discontinued at the buffet there awhile ago. Since then, they have been for sale in 6 packs in one of the grab and go cases, but I have been told by someone who was there yesterday that the last day they were selling them was Saturday.

Just in case anyone is having withdrawals, here is a recipe for the play at home version.

IMG_0352-1.jpg

Oreo Bon Bons

Ingredients (Yield 3 Dozen)

Mousse

  1. 16 oz. heavy cream
  2. 6 egg yolks
  3. 16 oz. white chocolate
  4. 4 gelatin sheets or 2 tbs. powdered gelatin place in 3 oz water
  5. 1 dozen Oreo Cookies (crumbled)
  6. 3 dozen Oreo Cookies (whole)
Ganache

  1. 16 oz. dark chocolate
  2. 16 oz. heavy cream
Instructions

Mousse

  1. Melt chocolate.
  2. Whip 16 oz. heavy cream until consistency of ice cream.
  3. Place gelatin in cold water.
  4. Heat egg yolks until warm; add chocolate, stirring constantly.
  5. Place gelatin in microwave until gelatin is dissolved.
  6. While gelatin is heating, add one third of heavy cream to the egg yolk and white chocolate mixture; mix well.
  7. Add a little of the cream to the heated gelatin and mix well, then add both the gelatin mixture and the chocolate mixture to the remaining whipped cream and fold until incorporated.
  8. Fold in crumbled cookies, mixing well. Let mousse set up, around 2-4 hours.
  9. Place 3 dozen Oreo cookies on a sheet pan. Pipe mousse onto cookies, and dip into ganache.
Ganache

  1. Over light heat, melt 16 oz. chocolate into 16 oz. of heavy cream, mixing until combined.

Sunken Treasure: The unofficial beverage of the Beach and Yacht Club FAQ forum:

Ode to my "first" Sunken Treasure by natebenma

Contents: Malibu Rum, Midori, orange juice, pineapple juice and Sprite with a splash of BOLS Blue Curacao.

Thanks, pixarmom, Feckless, WDW4us2006 and Ninja Mom for the photos!

The Sunken Treasure was removed from the menu at Hurricane Hanna's for several years but has recently returned to the bar menu at HH and several other pool bars at other Disney resorts.

Thanks to medicgirl177, who experimented at great personal risk to decipher the secret formula:

Sunken Treasure- recipe by medicgirl177
1 1/2 shots Midori
1 shot Malibu Coconut Rum
1 shot orange juice
1 shot pineapple juice
Sprite or 7-Up to fizzy taste
1 shot Blue Curaçao
Over ice
Dress with Pineapple slice, cherry, or umbrella

I am sorry to inform everyone that the resort will no longer allow pool noodles to be held in storage and passed between guests, so the private Noodle Swap coordinated on the BC/YC FAQ thread has been discontinued. Bell Services will no longer be permitted to accept or keep noodles turned in to them.

Thank you to everyone who has participated in the swap! The posters on the this forum were able to successfully execute a pool noodle swap from June 2011 until September 2012. It was certainly fun and lasted a lot longer than anyone ever imagined when we started this!

They will making their first visit to Disney World and the Beach Club in June 2011. They have decided to take up permanent residence at the resort and will be spending time with different families as part of a "noodle relocation program"

**********************************************************************************************

Well, after their introduction to the Beach Club/Yacht Club and Stormalong Bay, the Noodle Family has decided to stick around. The first handoff was successful!

IN MARCH 2012, THE NOODLES WENT MISSING!

WantedPoster.jpg

Are they pool hopping at another Disney resort? (why would they?)
Did they leave along with Matthew, Johnny or Robert after their guest appearances at Captains Grille?
Or did a more nefarious fate befall the family???

We have a few leads and have assembled a crack (crack-pot?) team of imaginary detectives to solve the case of the Great Noodle Caper (mmm... noodles with capers...). We will let you all know what Thomas Magnum, Jessica Fletcher, Barnaby Jones or the team from Scooby Doo discover.
(Check the abandoned Wonders of Life Pavilion- old man Jones was seen skulking about)

Update- due to the generosity of guests, a new set of noodles "resurfaced" and the swap continued for several additional months.

For those who are not familiar, the fantasy closet is the legendary utopia where guests who are not ready to leave the Beach & Yacht Club can go to live out their days in vacation luxury. Problem is, MM took the keys, and then misplaced the map!

Lily's Pad:

For anyone new to the thread- there is a lot of history here and a lot of great friendships made in past versions of this thread, but I want to introduce Teena to anyone who doesn't know her (yet).

Teena's Retirement, January 2016:

After working for Disney for more than 10 years, Teena the Beach Club greeter retired on Monday January 25. She moved to Las Vegas to live with her daughter Jeanne and her precious granddaughter Lily. For many of us, the Beach Club lobby will never be the same without the enthusiastic greeting and warm smile from our friend.

I have started a thread on the Resorts Community Board to give everyone a place to send along good wishes to a great friend! Post pictures, stories or just words of thanks and encouragement. Sort of like a virtual retirement card! (Thanks, shoreward, for the suggestion)

Teena's next few days will be very busy with work and the sale of the house, but I know once she is settled, reading your kind thoughts will be heartwarming.

:grouphug:

Here's the link to the thread:

Best Wishes for Teena

Princess Lily

We were all eagerly awaiting "Peanut's" arrival in the months leading up to July and even had some fun, friendly competition to guess her birthdate and whether she was a Princess or a Pirate.

Lily's arrival was a very special moment for our beloved Teena in a year that has been tough due to some health issues. She bravely shared what she was going through with all of us, once again, in an attempt to help others who may be facing similar challenges. :grouphug:

Teena has faithfully posted on this board and has helped us all gain great knowlege about these resorts, so many of us who hang around here can now also answer the questions that are posted here.

I will occasionally post the photos she provides to me, because, well, Teena may know everything there is to know about the Beach Club but she don't know beans about technology! :rotfl:

Trip Report: Lily Goes Live: A Princess' First Visit to Her Kingdom (And More!)

This report follows Lily's first visit to WDW, plus trips to the Beach Club, Disneyland and MORE!

:welcome: Princess Lily!!! princess:

Disney (and the Beach Clubs) newest princess has arrived:

WhatBigEarsyouhave.jpg

Lillian (Lily) Grace
Born 7/11/11, 7:59 am
6 Lbs, 11 oz, 20 inches

Please note that Lillian is a name truly worthy of Disney royalty as this was the name of Walts wife.

It also goes without saying that 7 come 11 is a great date for a baby born in Las Vegas!

Congratulations to Jeanne and Brian and to proud Nanny Teena and Pop Pop Bob!

From Teena, June 2013:

Jeanne said Lily FINALLY likes princess stuff. She was not into the princesses at all but Jeanne got so tired of her watching the parades (a friend taped them onto a DVD for her), Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and Jake the Pirate, that she started putting Disney movies in the DVD player. She started with Cars and Nemo and after being sick of them being played over and over again, Jeanne put in Beauty and the Beast. OMG ... she loved it after the first hour of crying for Nemo. And when Belle dances around, Lily dances around.

I had purchased a bunch of princess dresses (of course) and one of them (the green one) is there in Vegas and the rest are here since I figured Jeanne would want her to wear them when we visit WDW. She has shown it to Jeanne but Jeanne had no interest in frilly things .... UNTIL NOW. Apparently she pointed to it after the second time of "dancing" to Beauty and the Beast and screamed "mama, mama, put on". So on it went and she danced and danced and danced. So we now have an official Disney Princess!!!!!

BTW- Kudos to Cinderumbrella (July 10) and 333disneymom (July 12) who came closest in the "Is Peanut a Princess or a Pirate" pool-
Honorable Mention goes to BCV23 for having the correct date (July 11), but the wrong gender!

Welcome to Our New Home!!!

I still have some work to do on the first page- Post 1 needs A LOT of work and updating and I need to update the Table of Contents links to this thread.

I'll try to get to Post 4, Resort Activities to update the May info.

And I am behind 13 pages on the locked thread, so I know I have a bunch of people to :welcome: and the Be Our Guest list is only updated to page 320 (May 21, 2015)

Don't forget to "Watch Thread" for updates, and if you have the link to the FAQ in your signature, make sure to update it there.
