Wednesday, July 31 ~~
Fully refreshed after a great night's sleep, we pleasantly awoke to the sound of the waterfalls...Not a cloud in the sky, and the temp was already in the high 70's. Of course, you know what that means -- BLIZZARD BEACH!!!! However, not everyone in my family felt the same way. My DS and DH were still feeling the affects of the hot Daytona sun(sunburn), and wanted no part of any water park. So, they opted to visit Disney's Wide World of Sports, instead to get first glance at the Tampa Bay Buccaneer's training camp. So, my DH, my two older DS's, my DS-in-L, and her friend headed to DWWof S....
After a 10-minute wait, we were on a bus headed to BB. We knew this was going to be a park that was going to be crowded; I must say, the layout of BB is done so that everyone can have their lil' piece of turf without "invading" anyone else's space. We set up "camp" near the wave pool, and strategically located ourselves near 2 important areas ~ the snack stand and the bathroom!
Now, let we just say, for those of you visiting BB in the near future (who are on-site guests), Disney does NOT go out of its way to advertise this, but, if you bring your resort mug to BB (or TL), for $5 they give you a sticker with a bar code on it and you get free refills for the day (it will say, "Wednesday", or "Thursday", or whatever day you happen to be at the water park. Or, you can purchase a BB mug for $10 and refill THAT for free for the entire day (now you see why WDW doesn't offer this info so freely!
)
First stop: the chair lifts to reach Summit Plummet, and other destinations. If you don't mind riding this with 2 strangers, opt for the "single riders" line - it's much faster. Besides, you will meet up with the rest of your party at the top. We first decided to try out Teamboat Springs ~ a round-raft ride that seats 5 or 6 passengers. Wow! What fun that was! We immediately climbed the stairs again to get on line (huff-puff!!!
) for a 2nd go at it, followed by a ride on the double-tubed ride(to the left of Summit Plummet) Some other highlights included the Lazy River (this has got to be the LONGEST lazy river I've ever been on!) the wave pool, and the smaller slides. We decided to save the BEST for last. Meanwhile, some of our family members who had gone to DWW of S, decided to meet up with us at BB (my DH and DS wanted to head back to WL for an hour on the water mice). Apparently, by noon BB was closed due to its being filled to capacity. (the bus driver told my DS-in-L this, although she brought them to BB anyway) Now, my other DS-in-L and I set out on a mission to "conquer" Summit Plummet. The wait was really long - about 45 minutes, and all that succeeded in doing was to build the anticipation of what was to come. At 125 ft high, you ZOOM 60 m.p.h. and reach the bottom in 3 seconds! Four riders left in front of me, I was now murmuring to myself, "What the he-- am I doing up here??!??!
With the exception of the HUGE wedgie that you are priviledged to receive, it was WORTH IT!
Now, it's approximately 3PM, so we decided to return to WL to enjoy the pool and lake activities. Some of my family members got involved in a "heavy-duty" volleyball game at the beach (they are always SOOO competitive!) with other WL guests, while we lounged near the pool. The water was perfect; not too cold, not too hot. In fact, a nearby duck thought so too, as he swam in the pool, oblivious to the gawking guests and fellow swimmers. My DS-in-L and I decided to celebrate our Summit Plummet adventure, so we wandered off to the Trout Pass bar for a few Pina Coladas. However, I was reminded of a time at the Condado Plaza in San Juan, P.R. of a drink called the "Coqui`" and instructed the bartender to whip one up for me. Well, this tasty drink spread like "wildfire", and before you knew it, she was making them for everyone in our family! (the ones who were "of drinking age", of course
!) If you happen to visit the Trout Pass bar, ask the gal for a "Green Geyser" by Kim (the male bartender won't have any idea what you are talking about). We renamed it to make the drink "in theme" with the WL!
Back in our rooms, we were getting ready for dinner at Whispering Canyon. We stopped at Roaring Fork to refill our mugs, so we could bring them with us to dinner. We were quickly seated at 2 tables; since our ressies were for 6:50PM, we seemed to have "just missed" the ensuing dinner crowd. We were greeted by our server, Jeffro (make a point to ask for him should you visit WC!), who obviously takes his job seriously. Although our food was not 5-star quality, he definitely made up for it with his antics! Some of us needed refills in our mugs, so my girlfriend, her sister, and I decided to grab everyone's mugs and refill them at Roaring Fork. BIG MISTAKE!!!! You see, while we were gone, my DS-in-L "mentioned" to Jeffro that it was Marybeth's birthday (my friend). Of course, it wasn't, but Jeffro didn't know this. Not only did Marybeth have to stand up in the middle of the restaurant, but Jeffro proceeded to lead the patrons in a rousing rendition of "Happy Birthday - Cha, Cha, Cha", followed by making cat ears out of one of the napkins and placing it on her head! She DID get a complimentary slice of chocolate cake, though! Oh, yes....my DM-in-L mentioned that she was a BIT cold (they were seateddirectly under an air vent). Jeffro, always eager to make his customers happy, quickly reappeared with a big, thick fleece blanket, wrapped it around her, tucking it in, in all the right places
!
This was one meal we would not forget for a long time. My DS's wanted to try their luck at the arcade in a quest to conquer "Jurrassic Park", so off they went. It was now almost 9:30PM, so we wandered to the geyser area, so we could get an unobstructed view of the water pageant. It began promptly at 9:35 PM and lasted for about 15 minutes. The first park included various animals - a sea serpent, a turtle, an octopus, and others, followed by an "American patriotic" theme, with flags and red, white, and blue stars.
The activities of the day wore us out, so, by 10PM we headed to our rooms to relax and wind down, sitting on our balcony, watching the other WL guests, as they strolled the grounds.....
