Background: DH really needed to get away and we needed family time. So I booked this trip that happened to be on our sonâÂÂs 7th birthday. So we decided to surprise him with it. To do the surprise I ordered a Mickey Birthday Gram. The card read âÂÂAnthony, ItâÂÂs your birthday. WeâÂÂre going to Disney! Love, Mommy & Daddyâ His schoolâÂÂs secretary was enlisted as part of the surprise.

Thursday, December 14, 2000 â The Best Laid Plans! (or the weather is awful!)
Wake up, AAAâÂÂs school is delayed an hour due to weather. Check Internet, flight is ok according to the airport. Check USAir.com CANCELLED! Oh No! So I get on the phone at 6:15am, after holding for 25 min finally I get a person. We can get out on the 2:49pm flight out of Logan. WeâÂÂll take it. I make all the necessary calls about the delay. WeâÂÂre all set. Except we canâÂÂt make MGM or AAAâÂÂs birthday dinner at Sci Fi (his favorite). Get AAA off to school and we remind him weâÂÂre picking him up early to take Daddy to the airport for a business trip. Finish packing and Daddy & I go to pick him up at 10:45am (they have ý day today). Here starts the surprise. We bring the Mickey Gram into the school. Mrs. M puts it in with the mail and calls Anthony out of class. AAA arrives and Mrs. M says âÂÂYou got mail!â AAA takes the box âÂÂItâÂÂs from Disney!â They open it and out comes Happy Birthday Mickey & the card. AAAâÂÂs learning to read so he reads it and just stares. I then say, AAA weâÂÂre going to Disney now! I canâÂÂt explain his expression or his reaction. It was something else. By now teachers are coming out of the woodwork. HeâÂÂs getting hugs, etc. and off we go. As we get in the car he says âÂÂYou tricked me! ThatâÂÂs why I wore a short sleeve shirt today.âÂÂ
Well, we get to the airport and our flight leaves 30 min late (if youâÂÂre familiar with Logan, thatâÂÂs on time). We arrive at Orlando, get our bags and head to the Emerald Aisle for our car. ThereâÂÂs a PT Cruiser and we get it. Within 15 minutes weâÂÂre off to WDW! Now remember we left snow, rain, freezing rain and yuckâ¦well, itâÂÂs 80 and beautiful. We check into Coronado. There is a gorgeous tree in the lobby. Everything is festive. Our room is ready and we head to Casitas 1. The resort is HUGE, actually too big for my liking. The room is nice but small (weâÂÂre used to a 1 bedroom at BWV) and very clean. Time to eat. We head to the Pepper Market and grab dinner. After all I read I was pleasantly surprised. We told our server it was AAAâÂÂs bday. They came with a rather large cake with a candle and sang to him! It was great. The cake was wonderful. All in all what could have been a real disappointing day turned out rather wonderful! Off to bed.
