Currently, I have a reservation at Pop Century to take advantage of the Savoury Summer Offer discount but have upgraded to include the Disney Dining Plan complete with park tickets.

Should free dining be released for my travel dates, how would I go about changing my reservation? If free dining were to be offered, I would likely change to a moderate resort as the difference between staying at a value resort and upgrading from the quick service dining plan, and staying at a moderate resort where the regular dining plan is included, is minimal (just a couple of hundred dollars). To me it would be worth the upgrade.

Can you change an existing reservation online to take advantage of new offers/discounts? or does it have to be through a phone conversation? Just curious and wanting to be prepared...... even though it is months away.

If you are already booked under a public discount, it is not likely that another one will be released for the same dates. If you want to change the reservation should something else come out, you can call and see if the dates are available for the resort you want with that discount. There is no guarantee that you would get the new discount for the dates and resort you want, even if they release something else.

I had a reservation booked and changed it online when spring discounts were released.

If a different discount is offered and you want to take advantage of it, you would need to rebook. I know that some can be changed online, but the last several trips I took were on bounce back and any changes I made I had to call.

To get a newly released discount there would have to be availability at the new resort for your dates. You will end up cancelling the reservation you have and rebooking a new reservation for the new discount. You can not just "apply" a discount to an existing reservation.

So what you are saying is when you go into MDE, while there is a change button for resorts, in order to take advantage of a new special offer you would have to start a new reservation. Will I lose my dining reservations that I may have linked to my current reservation? Also, do I have to cancel my existing reservation before making a new one? It would be nice to have the new reservation all sorted out before cancelling my old one....just in case there were complications.

The risk of "messing up" is why I would call rather than use the app to cancel and rebook.
Dining reservations are not linked to resort reservations, Anyone, even off site can have ADR's. So these will be fine.

I have heard though that trying to get through to WDW on the phone during the first few days of free dining can be almost impossible! Thanks for the info on the ADRs.....that is helpful.

It can be difficult. I have alwasy called, but many people have had no issues making the change online.

What I would like to know is......can you make a second reservation and then, once that is all confirmed, cancel the first?

Yes...that's why it's better to call. They'll do all that while you're on the phone with them.

Keep in mind that you'll have to pay another $200 deposit for the new reservation, and it will take a couple of days for your refund from your old reservation to be credited back to your cc or original method of payment.

During these times, I have always made the new reservation online and then cancelled my original one. I do not want to miss out on a reservation because I was on hold.

I can handle the wait for the refund. I just wouldn't want to mess things up such that I couldn't get free dining (if it were to be offered) and at the same time lose my current discount so that I would end up with nothing.

I have no problem making a second reservation, paying for it, and then cancelling my old one. I just wanted to be sure that I could actually hold two reservations at the same time. Waiting for the refund wouldn't be a concern.
