Celebrating 50 Disney style! Complete w. cost breakdown and OOP vs DDP thoughts.

Another early morning for me as I had big plans for my day...... hit rope drop in MK for the Welcome show and Adventureland, over to the Poly for a coffee refill, hop to Hollywood Studios for ToT and BatB, lunch at HBD, hit Epcot for World Showcase, pool time complete with pool side beverages and back to MK for EMH! Wow, I'm tired just typing that! But I did it and had so much fun! My first plan of the day was to head to the Bellevue Lounge for coffee and something yummy. After filling my mug, I chose an almond croissant which I ended up eating at the bus stop as I was waiting for the MK bus. This was still warm, flaky and delicious with lots of slivered almonds and a yummy almond centre. So good!

I then headed off to MK to enjoy the welcome show which I hadn't seen in about six years! I just love this show and may have shed a few tears at how lovely it was. After checking out the Main Street vehicles, I headed over to Adventureland for a date with some pirates! I took in a show with some crazy singing birds and went for a cruise in the jungle. The Twilight Zone was beckoning so I hopped over to HS via the Poly for a coffee top up. Once I got to the Studios I had to pose for a pic with Sorcerer Mickey.

I had quite a wait for Tower of Terror but it was worth every minute. I LOVE this ride and the stand by queue was awesome, I also had a lot of fun hunting for Hidden Mickeys inside the attraction.

After taking in The Beauty and the Beast show and enjoying the Muppets (see what you can do when you're not hanging out with three teenage boys?) it was time to head over to Hollywood Brown Derby for my 12:30 reservation. I waited for a few minutes and was led to a lovely two top near the back of the restaurant. It was great to just soak in the atmosphere and have a chance to recharge out of the heat. I decide to start off with the Strawberry Lime Cider. This was ice cold and yummy although a little on the sweet side for me. I still enjoyed it but would probably try something else next time.
IMG_2779.JPG
I had to restrain myself with the rolls... so soft and warm. They were melt in your mouth good with the sea salted butter.
IMG_2780.JPG
I decided to go with two appetizers for my meal as I like to do. My waitress was so accommodating with this and paced the delivery really well. For my first appetizer I went with the signature Cobb salad. I asked for the dressing on the side and just tossed it myself. This was excellent. All the ingredients were very fresh and paired well together.
image.jpeg
For my second appetizer I chose the crab cakes. These were just stuffed with crab and had a very thin and crispy breading. Served with a zucchini slaw and a chili jam, these were over the top delicious.

I really enjoyed my meal here at HBD, the service was excellent and the food was so good. A definite win!

I am really enjoying your reviews - you accomplished so much! I am not sure how I would feel going solo but you are making me consider it!

DH and I are going to Cali Grill but I do agree that it has slipped a bit for me since the refurb. That peach crème brulee though! Looks amazing!

We are also going to the Afternoon Tea. Your review has made me even happier that I planned this!

I just cancelled our planned lunch at HBD. I do love that Cobb Salad! I just have to accept that I cannot do it all!

I know what you mean about CG. When my husband and I ate there back in 2009, it was spectacular! This time was good but not outstanding. So far, my favourite signature is Narcoosees although the new Flying Fish is definitely on my must try list along with Artist Point. I loved the cucumber fizz and will definitely try to recreate it at home. My Dooney purchase was the IASW pouchette, I absolutely love it! It's my sixth Dooney in a little over two years, I love them! Which ones do you have?
I'm getting too far behind! Oh, how I'd love to do the Afternoon tea, if only I had someone to do it with :( My DS's would laugh if I asked them to do it; DH would probably do it to appease me but I don't think he'd enjoy it which would take some of the enjoyment out of it for me! I'm not really a strawberries and cream person but whenever I see that dessert I really want to try it, although I feel like it's too pretty to eat!

The Dooney's I have are the HM2 cross-body, the Runway Princes satchel and a Disneyana satchel which was the first one I got in 2015. I meant to look at them when we were there the end of last month but I didn't, so I'll have to look online before we go in November so I can just grab what I want when I see it rather than wasting time deciding there lol!

TOT is my favorite ride in all of Disney but for some reason, it's the one place I've never found any hidden Mickey's! Another thing to put on my list for November :surfweb:
That strawberry and lime cider sounds good and I like really sweet. Wonder if they serve that at the HBD Lounge?

I love your reviews! What a Great way to celebrate your Birthday!

Amazing trip report!! As a Mom of three boys, all in their twenties having grown up going to DW, I wondered what it could be like going without my husband and boys. Did you ever get lonely? Did it feel strange to walk around alone? It sure looks fun!

Oh my. I'm a little embarrassed to admit what I have but most of mine are older (and used when purchased). I have the old tonal pattern pocket satchel, the haunted mansion satchel (HM SATCHEL SISTAH! lol I Love it!), the black and white striped fabric one with mickeys on it, the DVC black balloons tote, the 45th anniversary WDW bucket and the old it's a small world tassel tote.... for my "medium" bags. Then I also have some small bags - I have a matched set of castle placement mini barrels from the retro design (WDW and DL) and I have a small sketch blue letter carrier. and a few costmetic cases too :( And don't get me started on harveys.... I LOVE them in bad weather. I have a few of those too. Once you get your first you will need more although I have taken to collecting bows that people make aftermarket of the disney patterns and pinning them onto a plain bag so i don't feel i need to have every bag on the planet. crazy :( and then charms for them all. it is a true addiction.

So great to have purse sisters on the Disboards! I LOVE the tonal pattern and balloons! Lucky you Lisa, you have quite the awesome collection going on! I just bought my first Vera tote (Where's Mickey pattern) which I am using as my work tote bag for school this year. I am dying for the Tiki room Harveys tote as well as a few others. Ariane, I looked at the Disneyana satchel too, I really like it as well. I found Mouse Gear in Epcot and Cherry Tree Lane at the Coop in Disney Springs to have the best selection. I am in a few Dooney/Harveys resale groups as well which can be very dangerous!

Thank you so much! I am amazed at how much I did (and ate!) in five days! I would highly recommend a solo trip, it is a very different experience but is so much fun! Yes, the peach creme brulee was awesome....even though I was so full I just couldn't pass it up. I hope you enjoy the tea, I'll look forward to hearing your thoughts on it! :) No, you can never do everything, that's why you have to book another trip!

Check out the boiler room, there are two in there and one in library and the preshow. Very fun to hunt for! They do serve the cider in the lounge so that would definitely be a great way to sample it in November.

Yes they are ! :)

Thank you so much! Great to have you following along!

I must say it did feel a bit weird at first. But I quickly got over that and really enjoyed being able to do whatever I wanted. I met so many people and had awesome conversations. Towards the end of my trip I was feeling a bit lonesome for my family but I knew I was going home soon so that was ok. I didn't feel strange walking around on my own, it was actually so nice to be able to stop in wherever I wanted to browse around or just sit and take in the atmosphere. I think you would love it!

After returning from my yummy lunch at HBD, I headed over to World Showcase to browse around for a bit. My boys LOVE the candy at the Japanese pavilion so I headed there first to stock up on some treats for them. The Japanese drummers were just getting ready to perform so I watched them for a while. I decided to grab a cherry kakigori to enjoy while watching the show. This was SO refreshing in the heat and not too sweet. It was SO hot by this point so I decided to head back to the resort and hang out at the pool. I headed over to Leaping Libations first and tried the Roller Coaster Meltdown (Parrot Bay coconut rum with Myers Dark rum blended with pina colada mix) I liked this but didn't love it. I found the dark rum float just didn't fit with the coconut and pina colada and that kind of threw it off for me. I didn't even finish this.

After a few hours at the pool, I headed back to my room to get ready for EMH at Magic Kingdom! My plans tonight included Peter Pan, Seven Dwarves, Wishes and my beloved Haunted Mansion as well as a meet with a fellow Canadian disney friend.
image.jpeg
After Peter Pan I was hungry and headed over to Columbia Harbour House. I had thoughts of trying the Chicken Pot Pie or the veggie chili but ended up going with my favourite Lighthouse sandwich. This was not as good as usual as there was too much dressing on the broccoli slaw and I found the bread a bit stale. The hummus and tomato were good and the house made chips were tasty. I had an ice water with this and ate upstairs with a good view of the surrounding area.
image.jpeg
I thoroughly enjoyed my last viewing of the MSEP! So fun, I'll miss it for sure.
image.jpeg
It was well past 11 when I was struck by an ice cream craving. I headed over to Storybook treats for a chocolate vanilla twist. This was good but not as as creamy as I normally like, it was more like an ice milk than an ice cream. I finished this and headed over to ride Dumbo for the first time. Such a fun way to end my night at MK!

I love Disney purses. My bank account doesn't really. lol I have a few Dooneys and Lesportsacs. I want a Vera Bradley, but haven't bitten the bullet yet. How durable are they?

I have never had a Lighthouse Sandwich, but I sure have heard a lot about it!

No-one's bank accounts love Disney bags! I know the Vera bags are washable but not sure about fading. How do you like the Lesportsacs?

They are generally very good, I would definitely try one!

I love the Lesportsac. They are very durable and easy to clean. I carry mine a lot and they still look brand new. They also have a lot of pockets, which I love.

I had fallen a bit behind, but I'm caught up now!

The afternoon tea at the GF sounds so wonderful! I think it needs to be added to my must-do list for the future! Your chicken tacos from La Cantina de San Angel look so good, it's too bad they weren't the greatest :(

The saddest day of a trip is the last day.....after receiving my notice for the dreaded "Tragical Depress" the night before I decided to make full use of my remaining time. It was another beautiful day (can you believe I had NO rain during my trip?) so I headed down for a bit of a stroll along the Boardwalk before heading into Boardwalk Bakery. I chose a super yummy cheese danish, filled my mug up with coffee, dumped lots of ice in my water bottle and headed back to my room to enjoy breakfast on my balcony.
image.jpeg
I headed over to MK bright and early as I wanted to catch the Main Street vehicles out and about on Main Street. I was in for a real treat this morning as I saw the Main Street trolley for the first time as well as the Dapper Dans being escorted to their performance in one of the cars.
IMG_2816.JPG
I had my obligatory "goodbye" castle picture, then headed off for adventures with Winnie the Pooh. After enjoying some time travelling through history and riding through Tomorrowland . I had a long awaited meet up with Disney diner extraordinaire Kari (@kastoney) and her beautiful family! After enjoying some time with them I headed over to the Move It, Shake It, Street party (so fun!) and the best meal of my trip at .........

Boy, Kari got around on her trip lol! As simple as danish is, Disney danish is the BEST danish
Can't wait to see where your best meal was!

After having a blast at the Move it, Shake it Party I headed over for a final visit to my beloved Haunted Mansion. I had really hoped to do a tour around on the Liberty Belle but couldn't fit it in this trip. I then took a stroll over to Adventureland for lunch at Skipper's Canteen. Upon entering the restaurant, I was greeted by Grace who was very welcoming and bubbly. I had a sweet two top by the window. I LOVED the theming in the restaurant, so detailed and imaginative. My server was Christina from New Jersey and she was one of the best servers I have ever had while dining at Disney. She was knowledgeable, funny, chatty and efficient. Such a wonderful standard of service! I decided to go with two apps for my meal again and chose the Baladi salad followed by the falafel. First the bread with the honey dipping sauce was brought out. This was fresh and warm and I really enjoyed it.
image.jpeg
The Baladi salad was outstanding! Such simple ingredients but everything was very fresh and flavourful. I loved the dressing so much! Christina was kind enough to take my email address so that she could have the chef send me the recipe for the salad. How awesome is that?
image.jpeg
After enjoying my salad, the Falafel was brought out. These were bursting with flavour and paired so well with the white bean dip and vegetable salad. My meal was very well paced and while I only wanted water to drink in the heat, Christina offered to bring a dish of lemons to flavour it.
image.jpeg
As I was finishing my meal, Christina came over to check on me and asked if I happened to like chocolate. Well, there's only one answer to that......yes please! She then presented me with a sweet chocolate mini cake with raspberry sauce for my birthday. So yummy! I was so impressed with her service, not only at my table but what I witnessed at surrounding tables. I stopped in at Town Hall on my way out of the park to fill out a CM compliment card. This was true, top notch Disney service with delicious food. I'll definitely be back!
