Canadian Buffoon's Solo Disney Vacation - Update 07/08! pp99 - Here today gone tomorrow

200.gif

:lmao:

Hey Ponzi- Just checking in. I have no idea what I guessed, or even if I did. Mostly just checking in and saying hi. Because when I make the rounds, I have to catch everyone. Regardless if I have anything intelligent to say or add. Which is usually NOT the case. :rotfl2:

Hi Liesa!

Nope. You didn't.

Okay, so....

Bye Liesa!

Well, poop. I coulda gotten like a gazillion points. ( but I think I should get one anyway for... thinking.... thinking...I'll get back to you on that.)

Making progess on the DIS- but very little in my yard. Sheesh.

Well, poop. I coulda gotten like a gazillion points. ( but I think I should get one anyway for... thinking.... thinking...I'll get back to you on that.)

Making progess on the DIS- but very little in my yard. Sheesh.

Still time for guesses. Update won't be up until super late tonight.... at the earliest.
And probably not even then.

And I'm not worried about your yard.... I'm worried about the pickles!!

Hi Betsey! It's been a while! :)

summer is finally here and school is out *insert happy dance here*

:dogdance:

spent some quality time with the cutest lil granddaughter ever and braved the afternoon evening crowds at DL to catch the 60th anni parade and fireworks. they are amazing going to make a few more rope drops with her before the passes black out for the summer.

Sounds like you guys were having some fun! Good for you!

Oh no. Are you kidding me?

One vote for "no" to the Toronto TR.

I've been so distracted by Mr. Van Gundy these days.

You really like that guy, don't you! :)

Now that's a spicy meatball!

Okay, I've been up since 5:00am and as I write this, it's after midnight.
I might be a wee bit tired, so this should be interesting.

sleepykitty_zpsujsmxjf0.gif

And stop giggling because I said "wee".
I swear it was water on the bathroom floor!

Now. Where were we again?
No, not wee-ing. Where did I leave off...

Right. Rummaging around in my camera bag, looking for something.
Something I needed for the next ride.

Ya know. I must admit. Some of you were quite creative.
Why was I looking in my bag? For what??

Some of you came reallllll close to figuring it out.
Six of you got the ride right,
despite my blatant attempt to provide you with clues.
I guess there are just some things that can't be believed.

Now, let's get back to the rummage search...
Ah there they are. Yep. This was going to work.

I actually needed two things to make this work.
One I already had near at hand.
And that was my iPod.
It came in real handy to manage my Fastpasses and check lines, etc.
But it does have another use, ya know.
Which was going to be important if...

Ah. Here they are. My headphones/ear buds.

Where I'm going, ear plugs just wouldn't cut it.
Those things aren't 100% sound proof ya know.
Even the "noise cancelling" headphones aren't.

I plugged the ear phones into the iPod, cranked up the volume to "full"
and as ACDC's "Hells Bells" guitar solo started to crash into my brain...

I strode confidently into... It's A Small World.

I boarded my boat and we set out...
just as Brian Johnson started to wail:

"I'm a rolling thunder, a pouring rain
I'm comin' on like a hurricane..."

Everywhere I looked, animatronic metal heads were rockin' it out!
All I saw was...

HeadBangingRocker_zpsm1jvhheh.gif

What a cool ride!

Awwwwwwesome!!!!!!!

Head banging dolls to the left of me,
Head banging dolls to the right.

"I won't take no prisoners, won't spare no lives
Nobody's putting up a fight..."

Look! There's a head banging donkey!
There are dolls rocking it out on platforms and ropes and swings!

This is 'frican amazing!!!

BEST RIDE EVER!!

As my rock 'n roll boat would pass from land to land,
everyone had one common core rule.
They all rocked!
A hippo... a hippo! was obviously blown away by the guitar solo.
Giraffes and an Elephant were swaying to the tune.
I left one land as Hells Bells ended,
and as Angus and Malcolm Young began
the distinct guitar riffs of Back In Black,
the dolls seemed to respond by groovin' and movin' even more!
The penguins didn't miss a beat during the transition.
They were the coolest of the cool birds.
Hawaiian hula girls were gyrating to a whole new groove.
A mother Kangaroo was teaching her Joey how to rock,
and the Joey was rocking that pouch.

As I was nearing the end of the ride, the unthinkable happened.
Suddenly, a momentary jostle of the arm and...
The music quit!!!

In a panic I grabbed for my iPod and started to hum tunelessly...
and loudly.
I didn't care if anyone else heard me... I just didn't want to hear... IT.

And, I'm relieved to say, I didn't.

In just a couple of seconds, Steven Tyler was belting out Sweet Emotion.
Phew! Close one!

I immediately saw that the dolls were fans of Aerosmith as much as ACDC.

Cool.

Too soon, my ride came to an end.
I sashayed out into the glorious Florida sunshine.
What a ride! I'll definitely do that one again.
(Note to self. NO JOSTLING THE iPod!!!)

I put my headphones away and glanced at the time.
Just four minutes until the rest of the park opened up.
I headed back towards Liberty Square.
I had a date with a coaster.
No rush. I've got a Fastpass for BTMRR.
Didn't know if I'd need it, but good to have, right?

So I turned right and headed straight for Haunted Mansion.

I mentioned that it was my favourite ride, right?
So I rode it twice.

As much as I love that ride,
I think the best part was what happened outside the ride.

I was close to the doors, with a group of people.
A little girl, oh... about six or eight years old...
saw me looking at Mme. Leota's tombstone.
She looked at it too.

When Mme. Leota opened her eyes, the little girl jumped!
I didn't laugh, (didn't want to embarrass her)
but I did find it funny.

After deciding once again, reluctantly,
not to accept the ghosts' kind offer to join them;
I set out for some nearby mountains.
I was pleased to see that Splash appeared to be working today.
I briefly thought about riding it right away,
but the siren call of BTMRR was calling my name.

While I did have a Fastpass for this, I didn't really need it.
When I got there, a tour group was just preparing to enter the line.
I didn't see them again, but I suppose I got in ahead of them.
It was still early and the crowds hadn't really started to form yet.
Still, I suppose I shaved a couple of minutes off the wait time.

Man that ride is fun!

I immediately set out for Splash.
The line there was pretty much non-existent.

Except...
As I got closer to the loading area,
the tour group showed up.
They had obviously been accorded some special privileges
as they were brought in through the exit.
It didn't really matter since they were all loaded into their respective logs
and out of the way in only a few minutes.
As I arrived at my designated loading area,
I asked a CM if I could be seated at the back of the log.

I really didn't know that it was supposedly the driest spot.
I picked it for another reason.

It had been a long few days.
I figured sitting in the back would be the best spot to chill.
You know, settle back, relax and just enjoy the ride.

PhotoPass_Visiting_Magic_Kingdom_Park_7192327434_zpsahh2ujgj.jpg

Sheesh. Everyone else seems so tense. :confused3
Gotta chill people. Just chill.

I will say this, though.
I had thought quite a bit about what kind of picture I wanted on Splash.
You can Google and find all kinds of fun Splash photos.
People reading Newspapers, playing Jenga, shaving, etc.
I did have an idea. One that I still might use in the future.
But since I was packing light, I couldn't do it.
So I decided on that pose.
I asked the CM to confirm that the camera was on the left.
I put my sunglasses on, got in position and waited.

Usually I'm at least a little nervous about the drop.
Well, I was so busy getting ready for the photo that I forgot all about it!

So for those of you who get nervous with the drop,
plan a picture and you'll be surprised at how easy that drop is.

I sashayed off in the direction of my next FP+.
I really wasn't surprised that no one guessed this one.
Heck, I was surprised I picked this one.
But I'd just heard too many things about it not to see it.
And since this was my second day at MK,
I'd already ridden the headliners.
So I figured I'd Fastpass this attraction just to make sure I got to see it.
Plus I'd heard that there could be long waits.

I wasn't anticipating overly long waits at this time of the morning, but...
Better safe than stupid.

Well.... I got the safe part down at least.

When I got to Enchanted Tales with Belle,
a CM asked me if I wanted to use my FP+ since there wouldn't be a wait.
I figured I'd just go ahead and use it anyway.

And it really didn't make a difference.

I was ushered in to the cottage before anyone else.
I took up position near the large door at the back of the room.
Which is where I would've ended up anyway.
After a few seconds, a group of people came in and filled the room.
It wasn't so many people that we were packed in, but not too far from it.

A CM asked us all to shift around so that the kids and shorter people were
farthest away from where I was standing by the doors
and closer to the opposite end of the room.
There might've been taller people than I, but I didn't bother to move.

You may have heard of the transforming mirror, you may not have.
There's a mirror on the wall, opposite the door.
The gilt frame lights up with flashes of light and...
well... it grows.
And as it grows, the mirror shows scenes of the forest and Beast's castle.
The last scene it shows is of the door to the castle.
By now, the mirror is the size of that door and it opens into the next room.
It really is Disney magic at its best. Really well done.

When you go through to the next room, another CM awaits you.
In the room, Wardrobe and the CM invite you to participate in a play
to re-enact the time Belle and Beast met.
There are enough parts to ensure that all children who want to participate, can.

DSC08792_zpsvxqfxwbx.jpg

Once everyone who wishes has a part assigned, we move into the library.
The library is a large room lined on all four sides with books
and dominated on one wall by a large fireplace.
On the mantel, of course, is Lumiere.
This is more of some amazing Disney magic!
Lumiere is absolutely fluid in his motions. I have absolutely no idea how they do that.
Really remarkable.

DSC08794_zpszrlqonnu.jpg

Soon Belle arrives and the kids (and some adults too!) act out the play,
with a lot of guidance from some very talented CMs.
Eventually, all the kids get to meet Belle and pose for a picture.
Eventually, she has a dance with the lucky child who plays the Beast.

DSC08798_zpspsuxkhj9.jpg

After, the CMs ask if anyone else wishes to meet Belle
(I declined)
and she sweeps out of the room and the meet is over.

It's no secret that I'm not big into character meets,
but this one really was well done.
It's almost more of a ride than a meet.

Would I do it again?
Hmmm... Solo? Possibly not. But I might.
With any of my family? Absolutely!
I'd want them to see this amazing display of Disney magic too!

Exiting from ETWB, I noticed that I had some time before my next Fastpass.
I decided to head back towards the hub.
I was starting to get a little hungry, but my ADR wasn't until 12:45.
I wondered if maybe I could push it forward?
Couldn't hurt to ask.

DSC08802_zps6slce40z.jpg

I passed by the Crystal Palace well before my ADR time.
I had fond memories of this place from the last time we visited.
I gave it a little wave as I sashayed by towards Main St.
I wanted to get Elle a keychain (she collects them) before lunch.
It didn't take long before I found one that I thought she might like.
I looked too, for something for Kate, but her tastes are a little more...

Specific.

"See if you can find me a hoodie. It has to be black.
And not a zip up hoodie, but a pull over.
And I don't want a big gaudy picture on it.
If you find one with a little logo on it, that's okay."

Tough one. And I never did find one.

Well, time to see if I can bump up my ADR time.
I headed over to the restaurant and told the CM that I had an ADR,
but would like to dine sooner if possible.
He told me that wouldn't be a problem and changed my ADR to 11:30.
Less than a minute later, I was being led to my table.

IMG_0483_zpsmzanhwgr.jpg

Sorry about the blurry quality of the pic. I snapped it with the iPod as I was going by.

One of the first threads I started, back in 2007,
was one asking people what the worst Disney restaurant was.
The majority picked either ABC Commissary or Tony's.

On this trip, other than 50s Prime Time and BOG,
I hadn't really considered eating anywhere other than quick services.

But then Elle (DD18) said she wanted only one thing from WDW.
"Dad, the only thing I want is a napkin from Tony's signed by Lady & Tramp."
Well, of course I'm going to do it!

I was led to a table and I settled in.
I already knew what I was going to order.
Unless you don't like that particular dish,
it's kind of a requirement.
Unless also, you've already had it, I suppose.
But for a first time visitor, well...

I placed my order with the waiter
and asked for the signed napkin.
He scurried off to the kitchen, leaving me with my thoughts.

Thought...

Nothingness...

Ahem.

Place is pretty dead for coming up on lunch time.
Maybe the place's reputation has preceded it?

DSC08805_zps63lsrc94.jpg

After a few minutes my meal arrived.
And I'll be honest.
Is it the best I've ever had?
Nope.
But it was fine. I'd have it again.

Spaghetti is one of my favourite meals.
I could (and just about did for one year) live on that alone.

IMG_0482_zpsocghs6pz.jpg

When I was done, the waiter brought me the requested napkin
and asked if I'd like dessert.
Nope.
I have something else in mind for that, thanks.

I carefully packed away the napkin and headed back out into the park.

Soon, I was back at Gaston's.
While I couldn't possibly manage a pork shank,
(so much for that item on the wish list)
I could and would have one of these:

IMG_0484_zpsrnmwhepi.jpg

Once again, being honest here, I'm not sure how much I liked LeFou's Brew.
The passion fruit foam was good, but the apple juice,
even with the marshmallow, was just okay.

I'll try it again in the future,
just to see if my taste buds were just expecting amazing and not getting it.

If you've had it, tell me what your thoughts are on it.

While I sipped my drink,
I started to think if there was anything I still needed to accomplish in MK.
My wish list included Dole Whip float, Pork shank, LeFou's Brew and Pecos Bill's.
My must do rides were (in no particular order)
PP, HM, POTC, BTMRR, HM, 7DMT, COP (because it had been so long),
HM, Laugh Floor, JC and Splash.

I got everything done with the exception of the pork shank.
Guess I'll have to come back for that some time, right?

I had one more FP+ but it was a little ways off still.
It was for Peter Pan.
But now it was time to head out to the next park.
I'd already ridden PP several times,
so I wasn't too worried about skipping this FP+.

The quickest way out from Gaston's is to head straight for the Castle,
and go straight though it then continue down Main Street and out.
But my feet and my subconscious were telling me differently.
I found myself veering to the right.
Past PP and IASW (Rock on dudes!)
Past HM (goodbye dear friend)
I took the short cut tunnel towards the Magic Carpets
and made a left turn.
And as my feet led me unerringly on,
my brain finally registered just where it was I was going.

Yeah. I suppose it wouldn't hurt.
One for the road, ya know.

IMG_0485_zps4dscie7x.jpg

I sipped as I sashayed.
Those things are ridiculously good.

Unless I'm mistaken (wouldn't be the first time.)
I finished it before I left the park.
I passed through the exit and checked the time.
I was curious to see just how long it was going to take me to park hop.

I had read that a good strategy was to either avoid EMH parks or
go to AM EMH parks in the morning then park hop as it got crowded.
I hadn't really planned it for that reason, but here I was, doing it.

Let's see... it's now 12:49pm as I exit MK.

Bonus questions:

1. Which park am I heading off to?
No tricks, I'm going and staying at one park.
If you remember the wish list from page one,
(or just go look at it. First post.)
you should have no problems figuring out where I'm going.

2. How long does it take to get to that park?
I timed it from MK exit until I passed the tapstiles at the next park.

3. First ride in that park?
Big hint: I haven't been on it yet this trip.

And now...

The Contest

Bonus questions were:
Next ride: IASW (please tell me you were shocked... I know I was.)

Oh please, I'm on the edge of my seat. I wonder what you would say, laughing.

Well, you'll find out... eventually.
Gotta get through the rest of this TR first!

You know I meant "What? You were here?" as in crap!

I DID NOT CAUSE THE SUBWAY TO SHUT DOWN!

Yes, but that was not my point. Playoffs baby, playoffs.

I know. I'm just bugging you.
Must admit. I don't watch basketball at all.
I knew the playoffs were on, but wasn't watching.

Oh, BTW. We posted at the same time.
Update, just up there a bit.

I think, after (serioulsy, I have WAY too much time on my hands now) about 20 minutes of going back through old chapters, you are going to EPCOT- the park in which you have plenty on your Wish List yet left to do. I think you took the monorail and although the actual ride time is 8 minutes, it took you closer to 20 incuding wait times.

I'm going to guess you rode Soarin'. I admit I scrolled pretty quickly, but I don't think you've hung with Sinise yet.

Ahem. I do believe there has been a jistake (just a little mistake) I said NOT BTMRR because someone here CLAIMS to have a bad back. And no fair going on IASW. good trick with the ear buds!

You took the bus to DHS and then a boat to Epcot
it took 24 minutes
your first ride was Test Track

Six of you got the ride right,
despite my blatant attempt to provide you with clues.
I guess there are just some things that can't be believed.
:sad2: I should have known.

I really thought
1. You were putting it out there and making IASW too easy of a guess.
2. No way in heck you were going to do it.

I boarded my boat and we set out...
just as Brian Johnson started to wail:

"I'm a rolling thunder, a pouring rain
I'm comin' on like a hurricane..."
I will never look at this ride the same way again. :rotfl2::rotfl::thumbsup2

So I turned right and headed straight for Haunted Mansion.
:headache: Again... should have known!

It had been a long few days.
I figured sitting in the back would be the best spot to chill.
You know, settle back, relax and just enjoy the ride.
That's how you do a ride picture.

And I applaud you for finding out for sure which side the camera is on.

Instead of looking the wrong way like an idiot.

Lumiere is absolutely fluid in his motions. I have absolutely no idea how they do that.
Really remarkable.
It really is. Great detail for being such a small AA.

It's no secret that I'm not big into character meets,
but this one really was well done.
It's almost more of a ride than a meet.
Yeah, as far as meets go, it really isn't much of one. I mean you don't get the chance for autographs and to actually interact with Belle one on one. It is really just a picture and move on.

Hmmm... Solo? Possibly not. But I might.
With any of my family? Absolutely!
I'd agree with this one.

I headed over to the restaurant and told the CM that I had an ADR,

I'm glad that they were able to bump you up a little bit.

But more importantly, I'm glad I finally got one right.

But then Elle (DD18) said she wanted only one thing from WDW.
"Dad, the only thing I want is a napkin from Tony's signed by Lady & Tramp."
Well, of course I'm going to do it!
Oh yeah. You're getting away for a solo trip. There's no way you don't do this for her.

Place is pretty dead for coming up on lunch time.
Maybe the place's reputation has preceded it?
::yes::

Is it the best I've ever had?
Nope.
But it was fine. I'd have it again.
It's spaghetti. How bad can you screw it up? I've never had horrible spaghetti.

I'm glad you got a Dole Whip float on the way out. And you have to finish it before you left the park. It will melt if you don't. Even in February.

I timed it from MK exit until I passed the tapstiles at the next park.
36 minutes

3. First ride in that park?
Big hint: I haven't been on it yet this trip.
Spaceship Earth

Where I'm going, ear plugs just wouldn't cut it.
Those things aren't 100% sound proof ya know.
Even the "noise cancelling" headphones aren't.

I plugged the ear phones into the iPod, cranked up the volume to "full"
and as ACDC's "Hells Bells" guitar solo started to crash into my brain...

I strode confidently into... It's A Small World.

Brilliant! Must try this next time
I didn't laugh, (didn't want to embarrass her)
but I did find it funny.

When I got to Enchanted Tales with Belle,
a CM asked me if I wanted to use my FP+ since there wouldn't be a wait.
I figured I'd just go ahead and use it anyway.

And it really didn't make a difference.

I was ushered in to the cottage before anyone else.
This one surprised me! Did you enjoy it?

Ah. Here they are. My headphones/ear buds.
Even better than Ear Plugs

and as ACDC's "Hells Bells" guitar solo started to crash into my brain...
:rotfl2: Well that's one way to ride!

I strode confidently into... It's A Small World.
:cheer2: I knew it!:thumbsup2

BEST RIDE EVER!!

As my rock 'n roll boat would pass from land to land,
everyone had one common core rule.
They all rocked!
A hippo... a hippo! was obviously blown away by the guitar solo.
Giraffes and an Elephant were swaying to the tune.
:rotfl:

As I was nearing the end of the ride, the unthinkable happened.
Suddenly, a momentary jostle of the arm and...
The music quit!!!
:eek::scared1::eek:

Too soon, my ride came to an end.
I sashayed out into the glorious Florida sunshine.
What a ride! I'll definitely do that one again.
(Note to self. NO JOSTLING THE iPod!!!)
I might have to try a ride on it like that some time.

When Mme. Leota opened her eyes, the little girl jumped!
:lovestruc Cute!

It had been a long few days.
I figured sitting in the back would be the best spot to chill.
You know, settle back, relax and just enjoy the ride.
:thumbsup2

So for those of you who get nervous with the drop,
plan a picture and you'll be surprised at how easy that drop is.
What a smart idea! I'll have to try that some time!

The last scene it shows is of the door to the castle.
By now, the mirror is the size of that door and it opens into the next room.
It really is Disney magic at its best. Really well done.
::yes::

Lumiere is absolutely fluid in his motions. I have absolutely no idea how they do that.
Really remarkable.
Meh. Maybe I had too much of my attention pulled to other things, but I wasn't blown away really by him.

a lot of guidance from some very talented CMs.
::yes:: THat's the truth!

But then Elle (DD18) said she wanted only one thing from WDW.
"Dad, the only thing I want is a napkin from Tony's signed by Lady & Tramp."
Well, of course I'm going to do it!
Lady and Tramp sign things? :confused3

Is it the best I've ever had?
Nope.
But it was fine. I'd have it again.
It sure is a nice quite atmosphere.

Once again, being honest here, I'm not sure how much I liked LeFou's Brew.
The passion fruit foam was good, but the apple juice,
even with the marshmallow, was just okay.

If you've had it, tell me what your thoughts are on it.
:crazy2: Can't say I'm a fan!

I sipped as I sashayed.
Those things are ridiculously good.
I really do miss the Orange and pineapple swirl though. THat was the best! Straight pineapple isn't quite the same!

1. Which park am I heading off to?
No tricks, I'm going and staying at one park.
If you remember the wish list from page one,
(or just go look at it. First post.)
you should have no problems figuring out where I'm going.
I'm going with Epcot. I don't remember you mentioning taking a boat to Epcot yet.

2. How long does it take to get to that park?
I timed it from MK exit until I passed the tapstiles at the next park.
I'm going to say if you are truly headed straight for Epcot around 1 hour. If however you are planning to bus to HS and take the boat to Epcot (Like I think you might be doing even though you said no tricks. ) then I'm going with 2 hours.

3. First ride in that park?
Big hint: I haven't been on it yet this trip.
:figment: I'm going to do a shot in the dark and go into left field and say Figment.
