Can you recommend a campground that is shady with a pool?
unless there is some other water feature there. my kids live in the water all summerSo a federal campground is out? Most don't have pools.

How near Pigeon Forge would you prefer to be? And is it a tent, pop-up or RV site that you're looking for?
We go to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, and surrounding area, at least once a year. Probably for about 10 years now.
Wish I could remember the name... But, if you want the RV camp-lot, with the pool, close to everything (but out of the way) look for the one across the street from the Mainstay Suites. I think it is Pine Mountain Road?

Here is the link.
I am not sure if there might be access to the nice pool area at the Mainstay across the street or not. You should call and ask. We have enjoyed the Mainstay.

we don't mind driving a little - up to maybe 30 mins
Townsend, TN is billed as "The Peaceful Side of the Smokies" and is about 20 minutes from Pigeon Forge if you take Wears Valley Rd (if you stay in Townsend I can give you more details on that, it's really easy).

Tremont is my favorite in Townsend, it's right outside the park entrance, is shady, has a pool and you can get a site right on the river. They don't have a very impressive website, which is a shame because the campground is nice.
If you stay in the park itself, none of the campgrounds have pools but you can swim in the creeks. We've visited all the park campgrounds and prefer Cades Cove Campground. Also, the park campgrounds don't have showers.
In Pigeon Forge itself, our oldest son stayed here and really enjoyed it.

They have shaded sites and a pool.
I could talk for hours about the area, like Disney, but I don't want to overwhelm you. If you have any questions feel free to ask. I'd be happy to answer them if I can.
