Day 5 - "Off" Resort Day
The plan for the day was to 1. Relax 2. Breakfast at The Wave 3. Some pool time 4. Supper ADR at 'Ohana 5. Maybe head over to Disney Springs for some shopping.
However, I woke up on Day 5 with a crazy thought. I ran the idea by Grouchy before we even got out of bed. He was (reluctantly) on board, so I called the kids into our room to ask them what they thought.
The kids came in and Ry was TOTALLY excited!! Jay-Bob, didn't like the idea so much, but was talked into it. Lulu, had zero opinion because she would be too young to participate in my plans.
We had a 10am ADR for The Wave, so we spent the morning talking about our plans, doing some research on it and getting ready. We would be heading down to finalize the plans after breakfast.
We head to The Wave for some breakfast. I'd read good things about this place and was excited to try it. We were seated quickly and opted for the buffet.
I have to say, I was pretty disappointed with the food here. I'm a big hash brown fan, but they weren't good at all. They were this mushy variety with cheese mixed in. There was a lot of variety to choose from, but nothing that stood out.
After breakfast, we headed down to secure our reservations for my fantastic idea I'd had earlier. Ry and I got a reservation for 1pm and Jay and Grouchy got one for 1:30. We had to take turns since Lulu was too young to join us.
We spent the next couple of anxious hours in the room just chilling out. The kids played on their iPads/watched some TV. It was some much needed down time. Jay was feeling 100% back to himself, which was such a relief. Lulu was down to just a runny nose. Grouchy had some type of stomach issue going on, but nothing that prevented him from participating.
At 12:30 we headed down to the pool area of Contemporary for our reservations. What were we going to do?!?!
Wait for it..
....
Parasailing!!
I was sooo excited!! I've always wanted to go parasailing and what better location than over the Bay Lake!!??
We walked down to the Sammy Duvall's Watersports Centre desk that's located by the Contemporary pool and signed in. Since they wouldn't allow Lulu on the boat, we had to take turns. The price really wasn't too bad at $170 for a tandem flight. We would get to go 400ft out and the experience lasted 10 minutes. We also paid an extra $20 for them to take pictures and provide us with a flash disk with our pictures.
I think it's important to note here that both Grouchy and I are rather afraid of heights. I'm even scared of ferris wheels!
So Ry and I were up first. We boarded the boat with the 2 instructors and 2 other couples. There was another couple ahead of us, so we got to watch them go up first. They were instructed to sit at the end of the boat, with their backs facing the water (right behind the driver in the above photo), while they were strapped in and then the boat takes off super fast and they lifted into the air.
This is where the fear set it. Ry was being a total trooper and was very excited. I was looking for the nearest exit. But there was no escape without looking like a total wimp! This HAD been my idea!!
So, the couple before us came down and it was our turn. We were strapped in and released into the air!
OMG it was so high! It actually wasn't that bad until we hit wind and were jerked around some. I held on for dear life and tried to take in the scenario, which was amazing! We could see all the way to the Tower of Terror. It was pretty spectacular! It was also the longest 10 minutes of my life. Once we got down, I so happy that we did it. And what an experience for the kids to have!
Once we got back to shore, it was Grouchy and Jay-Bob's turn.
They also had a great time!
We waited for them on the beach by the pool, which is a pretty quiet little place to relax.
After we were all done with our adventure, we went back to the room and changed into our swimming gear and headed out for a swim. It, again, was a pretty hot day.
After swimming, we cleaned up and got changed and headed out for our supper ADR at 'Ohana! I was SOOOOOOOOOOOO excited for this meal as I'd heard many great things about it!
We headed up to the Monorail and rode over to the Polynesian. I'd never been to this resort before, so I was looking forward to checking it out. The monorail ride was super quick, and as usual, we didn't have much wait.
It has such great theming!
I had considered staying at this resort, but for some reason, they don't have 1 bedroom villas!?
Anyway, we were there about 20 minutes early, but had no problem checking in and were given our buzzer. On the way over, Lulu had fallen asleep in her stroller and they told us that we could bring the stroller right into the restaurant, which was super convenient!!
We strolled around the shops for a few minutes and before we knew it, they were doing their little pre-supper welcome and we were called to be seated.
As soon as we were seated, our "Cousin" came around, took our drink orders and brought us our bread. Sorry for the bit marks, but we hadn't eaten since breakfast and were starving!!
Delicious! I could have spent the entire meal eating bread. But I'm sure glad I didn't!
Salad up next.
Again, very tasty!
Next they brought out the chicken wings and pork dumplings. The pork dumplings were my absolute fav. I think I ate 10 of these things. The wings were just meh.
The noodles and veggies were also excellent. I had a couple of servings of the noodles!
Meanwhile, Lulu was also enjoying her meal.
BAHAHHA!! This restaurant is NOT quiet! But she slept through the entire thing. I don't think she woke up until we were on the monorail back to BLT.
Next up were the skewers!!
Chicken and beef. The beef was ok, but the chicken. Well the chicken was glorious.
Last, but certainly not least was the bread pudding..
It was also very good, but I had very, very little room left for dessert!
Somewhere in the middle, the kids were called up for a coconut race or something like that. Ry, ever the competitive kid, won the race and they all got leis.
Overall, this was my absolute favourite meal of the trip. The food was all so delicious and there was lots of it. And mommy got to enjoy it in peace because the toddler slept through the whole thing!! I love the atmosphere and all the cousins were terrific! I highly, highly recommend this!
My kids, who are super picky eaters, all found something they liked. They got chocolate cupcakes for dessert.
We headed back to the resort and Lulu finally woke up. We stopped and filled up on snacks before going to our room and called it a night!
What a terrific day for an "off" day!
Up next - Day six - Epcot!!!
