2016 Destash - The more things you own, the more they own you

Trying to get motivated today. It's cold and rainy and I just want to take a nap.

I did get a bunch of firewood split this week. But we are waiting for the rain to stop so we can unload the shed and shift the old and new stuff.
Not much else to report. I think this afternoon I will start shifting my summer clothes out. And purge while I'm at it.

Doing OK living mostly Kon Mari method of clothes. I took two large bags to Goodwill last week. I recently straightened through my hanging closet as we are in a tough time of year where it could be 40 or 90. I have some work clothes I still don't really like, but I am keeping for rotation. I definitely don't like to wear red and green. For some reason I have a bright green shirt and a vibrant red too. So I keep them for now. Sadly some of my shirts that I liked are really getting worn out. Some have holes in them! So they need to depart with thanks. And now that I fold and tuck my underwear, I see my favorite colors and style are getting a little worn looking...

SO, I actually bought some new items. Several work pieces that match from J. Jill and several nice running-work out shirts from Raw Threads. I also bought some new Life is Good T pieces on vacation for myself. Today I bought a new necklace and matching bracelet on clearance to match the work pieces. The new necklace hopefully will take the place of one that I had that broke that I had since 1999! I also bought some new underwear and a pair of summer weight pj boxer shorts. It has felt weird to buy some new things. I have spent the money and bought what I like. I have bought a lot less too.

My next purchase is likely going to be a second set of scrubs. This will probably allow me to shorten up my dressier clothes as I could wear scrubs 2/5 days.

Now my papers are still a wreck. I really need to be forced to not leave my house to deal with it. I will reread Kon Mari on that, but I am not sure it will work for me when it comes to paper.

I opened the metal box we keep important papers in to file away our title to our car we just paid off and realized we have 30+ years of tax returns and all the receipts. Not all were in the box, just the oldest ones. I have gone through 20 years trashed all papers I can and shredded I do not know how many years. I still have a stack to shred. I have filled 2 trash bags with papers and shredded sheets. My paper shredder is overheating so I will stop for the day. It is a good feeling to get rid of all that. I will work on shredding what is left during the next few days.

Finished it up today. Cleaned out two drawers in my dresser that contained important papers. Some were shredded others went in the metal box. All done and organized. Such a good feeling.

Took two boxes and a big bag to the school garage sale and one large bag to Mission Services, today. Love passing on my treasures to others!

Cleaned DS14's room last night while he was gone. He just needed a jump start. Every time I tell him to clean his room, he just stuffs it somewhere. I went through and made a big pile of stuff for him to go through tonight. In the process, I also got rid of almost a 33 gallon trash bag of stuff and found 4 basketballs that he needs to take to the garage and then decide which ones he wants to keep (he already has 5 in the garage).

It looks lots better in there, but honestly still needs work. But, at least it's a start!

I took 4 dead small appliances to the recycling center today. I need to have DH help me get the broken cutting table out of the basement so I have room to fold and store the unbroken cutting table that I actually use. DD and I can sew in the same space at the same time now, and just a couple of weeks until the fabric and pattern sale (so I can get those out of the basement)!

I've hit a wall here. I was moving along for a while in the summer, but now that we're back to school/work, progress has halted.

I really love the calm feeling when I'm in places that are very uncluttered, but I also appreciate the satisfied feeling when I have just the right thing to complete a project.

If I ever win the lottery, the dream house I build will have a lot of out-of-the-way storage!

Final push for the year everyone!!
The holidays are around the corner and if your house is like mine, it shrinks in size when the decorations go up.
When you start pulling your holiday decor out, go through it and see what you can part with.

I'll be starting my Xmas purge when I get back from Disney.

I'm hosting our small Thanksgiving celebration and I am officially freaking out. The Saturday before is DS's birthday party but it's not at home (thank heavens!) and we are going away for one night the Tuesday before thanksgiving so really my home needs to be clean and ready 2 weeks before because I don't have time otherwise to get it ready! Really purging and cleaning this Sunday!!!

Well..... I haven't been on the declutter train much lately, but I attended a family bridal shower over the weekend and the bride mentioned buying a white furry blanket to have in photos (the wedding is New Year's Eve day).....and I suddenly remembered that I had in my possession a white rabbit fur muff that my Mom carried during her sister's winter wedding (in about 1962)..... and the bride is the granddaughter of this sister..... so this muff is from her grandmother's wedding! I had DH pick it up when he was home (I am a packrat, but I am organized and I knew EXACTLY where this item was, despite the fact that I've owned it with no use for it for 25+ years!) and I gave it to the bride and she and her Mom and grandmother are DELIGHTED with it!! The muff will be her "something old" !! One item (that I couldn't have thrown out or donated) out of my house!............P

I'm just getting so frustrated. I finally decided to go into my spare room/craft room/ironing room/office/junk room and go through some stuff. I have things listed on offer up but so many crazies out there that I hate meeting up. I've decide to just donate the stuff. It would be nice to make some extra cash but I don't like having yardsales and my schedule is so busy. I figure just to donate it and bless others in need.

I'm donating 40 items
several pairs of pants 20, 10 blouses, 2 purses, 1 jacket, 7 misc items. As I finshed bagging those items I pulled out another box with my clothes so theres probably 20 items in there. I was getting overwhelmed so I stopped for the night. I printed out a calendar and I will be tracking my decluttering trying to do a lil at a time. I'm hoping to finish by the 17th so My husband can paint and put in some new flooring. Wish me luck only 11 more days to go!

I sent my sister a box full of outdoor Halloween decor two weeks ago - she calls herself the Halloween Queen and since we were no longer using it, I sent it her way. She called me up and said it was like Christmas. LOL

So that's one less tub of Halloween stuff in our attic. And I donated a bag of clothes. I'll keep plugging away on the stuff in the attic as each holiday comes along.

I have a bunch of cute lil decorations that are in good condition. I plan on using some and making gift holders, candy boquets or some candy with a gift card. I'm going to go through some stuff that's old and time to toss. Give some stuff away to someone who doesn't have a lot of decorations

I didn't get to go through my Halloween stuff so next year I will hit those
holiday tubs

I'm trying to get my spare room deluttered for painting and new flooring but I have to much going on. Thanksgiving week the 19th driving out 2 hours to checkout a college and planned on going away 5 hours from there for a getaway at a casino but decided to go the nextday so we aren't rushed. Well today my daughter tells me she has an award dinner the 19th in the evening. So the 20th head out of town and My daughters bday party is in dec plus something going on every Saturday in Dec. I have 4 weeks to declutter spare room (several boxes of clothes and craft items) and give the house a good deep cleaning for 50 guest

I hit my room tonight again. I got rid a box of my clothes. I'm going to go through some more stuff tomorrow. I'm so busy right now but trying to declutter some stuff to donate. My goal is to add stuff to donate pile each day.

How is everyone doing?

Checking in. I've been neglecting the DIS lately due to our schools auction and basket raffle.
Over the Thanksgiving break DH and I sorted and purged the cup cabinet, the water bottle drawer and the board games.
This week we will start the warranty box, bought hanging folders and a new tote for those. We are also working on digitizing recipes.

I also need to move my chair from the living room to the craft room so we can get a tree up.
