A Pink Pixie Princess - Complete!

When I saw the alert that you commented on my thread, I was like "I bet John is going to yell at me for the yoga comment..." and here we are. ::yes::

No yelling, merely friendly advice. On the topic of yoga, I went to my first in-person class in ages last night (the yoga I do in Iraq is just me), and boy does having an instructor in front make a difference. No slacking off when you're being watched, that's for sure. :)

Totally agree! I like the safety net of having someone there to correct my form if I need it, too. :) Namaste!

hahaha oh man I love you guys! (@Ariel484 and @roxymama) Each GG comment and Parks and Rec meme and picture made me more happier than the last! :cutie:

I've been enjoying your updates so much, they're incredibly motivating. I've only run one race (a 5K) and I'm training for my first half marathon. Thank you so much for posting! Have you seen the new Gilmore Girls trailer? It's so wonderful :)
I'm really sorry you were in pain during your last run but it sounds like you're on top of it :) Do you have particular yoga moves that you like to do weekly? I do enjoy yoga but I'm not sure what would help me with my runs.

It's been a while since I posted anything but I am soooooooo glad that you're posting again. Loving the Inknburn updates and your progress in training!

Can't wait to hear how W&D goes!!

Thanks for reading! :) I did see the trailer last night! Emily in jeans, what even?!

It was a little jarring I think since I'm currently re-watching Season 1 and everyone looks so much older...but man, they played the theme song and I was feeling alllll of the feels! <3

I'm trying! Definitely having more good days than bad days lately. :)

I just do whatever the yoga instructor says to do! My favorite yoga pose is pigeon pose - really good for runners as it's a great hip stretch:

And while I don't particularly LIKE them, I know things like lunges, chair pose, etc. are good because they help build leg and butt strength - very important for runners! Similarly, I don't love planks, exactly, but core strength is important for running as well, so they are beneficial!

Thanks!! Glad to be back posting and glad to have happier updates. :)

I have to admit, I have been totally distracted from Wine & Dine trip prep lately - I am pretty much 100% focused on the World Series!! I'd better pack at some point since we leave 1 week from TODAY!! :yay:

I totally forgot to respond to the mention of Gilmore Girls! I have sporadically been rewatching the series as well, but need to pick it up! I'm in the middle of season 4. I am so excited for the revival next month and have plans to park on the couch the day after Thanksgiving and watch it. The trailer yesterday was awesome to see. I love this show so much and was beyond thrilled when they announced the Netflix episodes. :lovestruc My only wish for what to see is that they keep Lorelai and Luke together. I didn't really like her mention in the trailer of them being happy. She sounded like she was questioning it.

Hi Dorkbot!

Sorry to hear about the IT Band ... weird that its giving you issues when it hasn't done that in a while. Hopefully the new inserts will help (I think that could definitely be at least a major contributing factor). Just trynot to let you stress you out too much.

I haven't even thought about rewatching Gilmore Girls ... I haven't had the time. I watch too much TV. Besides, I kinda know some of the episodes pretty much by heart anyway. That's not weird, right?
(Also ... #TeamAnyoneButJess)

Side note ... I finished Luke Cage. I kinda divided the season into two parts in my head (before and after the big death), and I liked the first half a lot, but not the second half. I did actually like last episode, though.
Also, I decided that I love Shades. I don't know why. I just do.

(Also ... I just realized that I use the word "also" a lot. Just a random stream of consciousness observation).

Confession - I have never watched the Gilmore Girls or Parks and Rec

:duck:

I'm sorry about the IT band pain, but given how long it's been since you've run that far, it's not that surprising. The good news is that it seems to have recovered quickly.

And, I also knew the moment you posted that about skipping the yoga that John would make an appearance.

Which Powersteps inserts do you use? I just got new running shoes and need new inserts as my others are worn down so I thought I would check these out since you said they helped your IT band problem. I went on Amazon and there are several different types of Powersteps. :confused3

Also, I was having some hip pain yesterday so I tried the pigeon pose that you posted the picture for. It really stretched them out! But, I couldn't get my front foot/leg where hers is in the picture! Mine was more with my foot pointed behind me, if that makes sense? I am NOT flexible! It still felt good/stretched. :)

If you get the result you want in the World Series, be sure to wear your World Series champs gear around Disney World. I did that in 2012 and it was great fun.

Me too ZellyB.....glad you fessed up so I wouldn't feel so alone!!

I love John! How many guys run AND do yoga?!? More should--more women should do it too; come to think of it--I should!!

I'm part way through season 2. I LOVE the trailer but Lauren Graham looks completely different to me...so that was crazy distracting. But I can't wait to see it!

If she and Like don't have a happy ending I will throw things at my TV!

Yeah, really strange. Thankfully it hasn't bothered me too much this week, but when I was running today I did sort of feel like my hips were weak or something? So maybe that's a factor. But the new inserts have been feeling really good so I'm glad I made the switch!

I also watch way too much TV. And I also pretty much know some of the episodes by heart. :teeth:

I'm wondering if they'll have Rory "end up with someone" - and if so, one of the 3 or someone totally different? :scratchin

RIGHT?! I completely agree!!

The big death was completely shocking. And I agree with you that it just wasn't as good afterward. The new big character that came in (so as not to spoil for anyone else) was, I thought, pretty ridiculous. I actually rolled my eyes at a few of his lines.

And I LOVE Shades! He turned out so much more interesting than I expected!
(Also ... I just realized that I use the word "also" a lot. Just a random stream of consciousness observation).
I'll allow it. ::yes::

GO WATCH RIGHT NOW!!

I'm sure that is a hue part of it - longest run so far and at the end of 3 days in a row. I'm glad it went away quickly and I hope it stays away!!
And, I also knew the moment you posted that about skipping the yoga that John would make an appearance.
Hahaha!!

I would just like to say - I did go to yoga yesterday and it was awesome. :yay:

Just the regular/original ones. Pretty sure it's these, it cost me about $30 for the pair:

My doctor said they should last me 2-3 pairs of shoes but I feel like I replace them once a year or so.

I know what you mean, I can't get my leg like that either! I think you just don't want your hip further out to the side than your knee, if that makes sense.
If you get the result you want in the World Series, be sure to wear your World Series champs gear around Disney World. I did that in 2012 and it was great fun.
I hope I get to! We wore some Cavs gear on the Dream the day after they won and it was great!!
I love John! How many guys run AND do yoga?!? More should--more women should do it too; come to think of it--I should!!
I agree!!!

I do really love yoga, I just get overwhelmed by EVERYTHING I'm trying to fit into my schedule sometimes...so if I feel like I need to cut back a bit, it's yoga. Which is dumb because I always feel way better afterward. :confused3

I wonder what Ariel is watching tonight? My hubby is at some baseball game right now. Wonder if I should turn on the tv?

I'm finding it simultaneously awesome and terrible that we are in the World Series. Awesome because...well, that's obvious...terrible because I want them to win SO badly that I can barely stand to actually watch the games. So I was half-watching last night - had the game on but was also messing around on my phone because I was too nervous to 100% focus on it. I'll be glad when it's over (and this will also mean that I can start going to bed at a reasonable time again - WIN!).

I didn't watch last night so someone is gonna come and take my bandwagon membership away. My excuse was toooooo tired from racing.

Dopey Challenge Training: Weeks 8 & 9

Week 8 (10/24) - 22 miles planned, 16 miles completed

MO: rest
TU: 3 miles
WE: 3 miles
TH: yoga
FR: 6 miles
SA: ST
SU: 10 miles planned, 4 miles completed

Another step-back week! The long run for this week was supposed to be 13.1 miles, with 10 miles next week. With Wine & Dine next week (EEEEEEK), it seemed to make sense to switch these long runs.

After last week’s scare with the IT Band pain, I was happy to find that it did not bother me during this week’s runs. Things felt a little wonky on Tuesday...this time not at my IT Band, more like the inside of my kneecap? I’m wondering if I was so hyper-focused on whether I was feeling any pain that I possibly (a.) Imagined some wonkiness that wasn’t really there (because it didn’t bother me at all once I was done running), and/or (b.) Changed up my gait a bit? But I was able to complete the 3 miles comfortably, and Wednesday’s run felt pretty normal. I could definitely feel some weakness in my hips during Friday’s run...thankfully it didn’t result in IT Band pain, but I definitely have to work on strengthening my hips.

Outfit for Friday's run, my favorite color!

What has been a bigger challenge this week is THE FREAKING WORLD SERIES!! AHHH. Tuesday’s game didn’t start until 8PM and it took fooooorever. I had to watch the whole thing, of course, and I wasn’t in bed until after midnight. (But between that game and the Cavs getting championship rings/raising the championship banner/winning, what a great night for Cleveland!) I was happy to hear that Wednesday’s game was pushed up 1 hour due to rain in the forecast - earlier bedtime! Of course, that game ended up being zero fun to watch, so I admit that we didn’t stay up for the end of it. WAHHHH! Sidenote: this is the game that I almost bought tickets to, and considering how it went, I am SO GLAD we didn’t buy the tickets! :faint:

The game schedule also influenced my yoga schedule for this week - I was all set to go on Wednesday evening, but then I realized there was a game, so that was out - I went Thursday evening instead. And I would have gone Saturday, but we FINALLY worked up the motivation to paint our family room (which I have been wanting to do for months), so that took precedence. I’m so glad we finally got that done because it looks 10000% better in there. ::yes:: I have had a goal to get that room painted before leaving for Wine & Dine, so we just made it!!

I lifted that morning (and Mr. A did his final long run of training!) and we dropped the monster off at camp, partially so we could paint in a pup-free house (bonus: I was able to drag my suitcase out of the crawl space without him around. Seeing the suitcases come out upsets him!), but mostly because it was HALLOWEEN PORTRAIT DAY!!

Presenting...Dog-tor Spock! It makes me so sad to see how white his face is getting...he’s only 7!

Not my favorite portrait (that honor would go to the time he was dressed up as Harry Potter), but a pretty good one. I did think he was Elvis at first, though, which would have also been pretty funny.

Sunday I had 10 miles scheduled and REALLY did not want to do it. I tried to think up every excuse in the book to justify skipping this run, but eventually I dragged myself out of the house. I was afraid I’d feel sore after painting but I actually felt pretty spectacular, physically - I felt better while running than I had when I was sitting at home. Unfortunately, I had to call it at 4. My stomach had been a little off this weekend, and it was PUNISHING me during this run. I started feeling some painful cramping around mile 3 and it got worse as I went on...eventually I decided to call Mr. A to come rescue me. I’m disappointed that I didn’t finish the run since I was feeling so good, but I think it was the right call. And considering how much I didn’t want to even start this one, I feel like maybe it’s some sort of small victory that I got out there at all? Maybe sorta? Wahhhh.

Week 9 (10/31) - 25.4 miles planned
MO: yoga
TU: 3 miles
WE: rest
TH: rest
FR: Mickey’s Holiday 5K!
SA: Wine & Dine 10K!
SU: Wine & Dine Half Marathon!

IT’S DISNEY WEEK!!! :hyper: I am super, super excited for this trip - it’s been a couple of years since I have been to WDW with Mr. A, so I’m looking forward to having some quality time, just the two of us. <3

But before Disney...2 more days of work, 1 yoga class and 1 run. I’d planned on getting a lifting session in this morning, but I slept in instead. The World Series is REALLY messing with my sleep schedule - I just mentioned it in a reply but I’ll be glad when it’s over. Mr. A and I get so nervous and tense watching these games that we’re in physical pain when they’re done at, you know, midnight or whatever - then we get up and go to work.

I have a yoga class this evening (along with a Treehouse of Horror marathon as we hide from Trick-or-Treaters...pretty sure a bunch of strangers coming up to the house throughout the evening is Archie’s worst nightmare) and a treadmill run tomorrow...and that’s it!

I’ll be posting like crazy on Instagram this week from WDW, so if you want to follow along, my username is @_shannymac4.

DISNEY EEEEEEEEEEK!!! :yay:

LOVE Dog-tor Spock!! So cute and while, yes, I agree that it will be hard to ever top Harry Potter, this one is pretty adorable too.

Good training week again and so awesome that you are feeling great physically - stomach issues aside. So excited that you are heading off to WDW soon and this time with Mr. A along. You will have a fantastic trip. I'll be looking for those picture updates on Instagram and feeling incredibly jealous!
