A Pink Pixie Princess - Complete!

Seriously, INB??? I swore I would be good after buying the Christmas stuff but I have also wanted to try a skirt and I love that pattern for the tech shirt and with the shorts in the matching pattern....ARRRRRGH. Need to check my balance in my impulse buying account and see if I can pull that off.

Oh you have one of those accounts to? Luckily mine's not a joint account with the hubby.

Yeah, we both get an allowance each month that goes into the "no questions asked" category. So we can spend that money on anything we choose and the other person doesn't get to make any remarks about whether or not we should or shouldn't have spent that money yada yada yada. It's great for keeping a marriage happy. :)

Week of October 3, 2016

Hellooooo again! I know I said I was sticking to updating every 4 weeks or so, but this week's portion got kind of long, so I'm just gonna toss it in here rather than write a novel at the end of the month...

Week 5 (10/3 - aka MEAN GIRLS DAY!) - 21 miles
MO: 3 miles... "On October, 3rd, he asked me what day it was."
TU: 3 miles
WE: ST/yoga
TH: rest
FR: 5 miles
SA: 10 miles
SU: ST
YOU CAN'T SIT WITH US! :rotfl2:

A couple of notes from this week...my highest-mileage week of 2016!

First and foremost...the bag of the month for October is the Moonlight Carriage Ring Tote from Harveys! (And apparently today, October 10, is National Handbag Day...so that's a thing.)

EVERYBODY SCREAM! EVERYBODY SCREAM! :lovestruc

Second...this week I changed up my weekly schedule so that I could get some Lumiere practice in, in the form of a back-to-back Friday/Saturday run. I lifted at home on Wednesday before work (sat in traffic as a result but at least I didn't have to encounter people in the weight room at work, sigh - people leave me alone in the cardio room, at least) and went to an evening yoga class that day (which was awesome). The back-to-back was not perfect, but I would say it went better than expected. I'm still not as fast as I was I wash, but I'm getting there! My back felt "tired" toward the end of both runs (not injured, just tired...if that makes sense) and I was pretty zonked out on Sunday, but my main takeaway was that I didn't feel too sore afterward, so it's a win. :thumbsup2 I don't think these back-to-back runs are vital *for me* from a physical standpoint, per say, but completing them gives me confidence and things to work on/keep in mind for the *actual* races, so they're beneficial in that regard.

So on that note: thing to work on/keep in mind that I learned from this weekend - and it's something I knew already and really the only thing I think I did a less-than-perfect job of during Dopey in 2015, so maybe I didn't *learn* it so much as it was reiterated - extra sleep during challenge weekends will be essential. ::yes:: I think getting less sleep than I needed in the days leading up to the 10-miler (see below) contributed to my "zonked" feeling on Sunday, and I don't want to be "zonked" at WDW! Another Sunday note: I skipped yoga today. For the past couple of weeks I've found my back has been pretty sore after Sunday yoga, so I decided I needed a week off. I guess it makes sense since it's right after my long run day AND lifting in the morning...maybe my back needs to get a little stronger to handle a more intense schedule. I'll try again next week and see how it goes.

Third...I met Larry! Apparently he's doing a tour around the good ol' C-L-E. :) Pretty cool! I wasn't going to stop for a picture, but Mr. A was like, "who knows if we'll ever get another championship!" so I stopped. Mr. A was right!

Fourth...OCTOBER BASEBALL! :hyper: I managed to score tickets to not one, but TWO play-off games for the ALDS, and they weren't even that expensive - so that's what we did on Thursday and Friday!

Thursday's game didn’t start until after 8PM and we made the mistake of parking in a garage close to the stadium - since we ended up on the 4th floor, it took FOREVER to get out! We were sitting in the car waiting to leave the garage for 40 minutes! :faint: I don't think we were in bed until 2AM...but what a great game!!!
29610963773_2ca89264b2_z.jpg

(quick story: Mr. A texted me the other day and was like, "I'm going to grow a play-off beard for the Tribe. What do you think?" I said go for it, knowing he wouldn't be able to stand it. Beard was shaved by Saturday :teeth: So if the Indians lose, we all know why!)

Friday was rough...work on limited sleep and then back for game 2! This one started at 4:30 and was another great game. We were spent when it was done! TRIIIIIBE!

We decided to park in a surface lot today that was a little further away from the field. So we had a bit of a walk but once we got to the car, we were able to just zoom right out since we were a little further removed from the action and we didn't have to wait for floors below us to empty out like we had the previous day. Whew!

Fifth...Kimono is here! Actually, it's been a SUPERB week for me, INB-wise - 3 orders came in!

Here's one of the other two - Cherry Blossoms!

30205828736_1e10fd5043_z.jpg

Addicted much? :teeth:

I wore Kimono for my 10-miler and the kit performed perfectly as expected - it's been washed and is set aside for Wine & Dine weekend. :)

Sixth: I'm now up to running 2:30 and walking 1:00. I originally was hoping to cut the walk break down to 30 seconds when I started this training plan back in September, but walking the entire minute is helpful on longer runs when my back gets tired (I have to say - I don't love that it gets "tired" like that. Sigh!). Pace is still coming down overall though!

Seventh (see? Lots of thoughts this week!): Remember how I said that Happily Ever Tees had sent me a XS in the Wishes top last week? Not only did they send a pre-paid postage label to me and the person whose shirt mine got mixed up with (I received my correctly-sized shirt on Saturday, yay!), they also offered to pull the next shirt I wanted to order and set it aside for me. This is pretty great since those shirts sell out in 2-3 minutes! Extra bonus: I actually want 2 shirts they are stocking tonight...they are putting BOTH shirts aside for me! So I would say they fixed the issue and then some! :yay:

Happy Monday, all!

Love the Harvey's bags!!! Then again, I love all Harvey's bags! My favorite right now is my new non-Disney park hopper in grey/blue tones - has been great for fall! Breaking out my Minnie Daypack and coin purse to take to DL the weekend of the Superheroes Half - still not sure we're actually going to DL other than for the run and packet pick-up. It's a college visit for our oldest son, and it's hard to spend time away from the beach, but I'll bring a Disney Harvey's just in case.

Great training info - good to see the details following your helpful advice on marathon weekend thread!

Heading out in your direction in a couple weeks for a college visit too. So if you have any restaurant recommendations in the Berea area, we'd love to hear them!

But the kimono is so pretty and will look awesome in Epcot!!!! I'd keep that for the half, but that's just me :)

Or pack both and make a game time decision.
It may be a game-time decision. I'm "supposed" to wear items that are currently available on the website, so if either of them sells out before I get there, that will make the decision for me. :)
Right?! I feel like they have been putting a lot of good stuff out lately! And I really think this skirt will get a lot of people who have been on the fence about the skirts to try them, because it goes with pretty much everything!
Great idea ZellyB!

So I have to show ya'll this shirt that I got for a local race!View attachment 200825

Is it the best or what?!?
I didn't want to hi-jack your thread, but I know that ya'll would understand.....ya'll get me!
That shirt is AWESOME!! :yay: Man, the races around me don't have cool shirts like that. Have you seen that they Day of the Dead cookies at Starbucks?!

Ahhhh aren't they the best?! It's so nice to not have to worry about carrying them in less-than-ideal weather or whatever.

Are you talking about the Dusk park hopper?? I almost got that one but I am REALLY trying to limit my purse spending lately...I think bringing a Disney Harveys with you sounds like an excellent plan. ::yes::

Thanks! :)
Heading out in your direction in a couple weeks for a college visit too. So if you have any restaurant recommendations in the Berea area, we'd love to hear them!
That IS in my direction! I think I know which campus you are going to...pretty campus. I don't know the Berea area quite as well, but there are nice surrounding areas...Olmsted Falls will be nearby, it's a cute little town. Great Northern Mall in North Olmsted will also be somewhat close (10-15 minutes) so there are restaurants around there as well, and the mall has a Disney store (though the last couple of times I have gone through it has been mostly kids stuff :(). If you want to go out a little further, there are good restaurants in Rocky River and Westlake (which also has an outdoor shopping area, Crocker Park - couple of restaurants in there as well. B Spot is good for burgers!). And Downtown Cleveland has some good places as well, but again, may be a little out of the way for you. :) Good luck with the college visits!!

So we've got 2-3 episodes left, and I have to say, it's losing me a little bit. :( Jessica Jones is my favorite and I'd say Daredevil and Luke Cage are at about the same level for me. I think I like JJ so much because Krysten Ritter's performance was just so awesome (and I really didn't like her much at all before this show) and I liked the whole "women kicking ---" vibe. Of course, it was still pretty disturbing overall, so like I said months ago when we were first talking about this...not sure what this says about me!

I think Daredevil and Jessica Jones work for different audiences. Daredevil (and Luke Cage too somewhat) is more physical action, and Jessica Jones, while it does have some action, is more psychological, and those often appeal to different crowds. For me, the psychological violence isn't something I'm overly comfortable with (there were a few things in one of the early episodes that really brought back some not-great memories for me), but there are plenty of people out there who appreciate and enjoy that. I don't think it makes you crazy ... maybe just a little weird.
I actually think that Krystin Ritter may have been part of the problem for me. I loved her on both Gilmore Girls and Don't Trust the B- in Apartment 23, so seeing her as a totally different character kinda threw me for a loop.

Also ... I watched episode 7 of Luke Cage yesterday. I didn't see that ending coming.

I can definitely see not liking the show if it brings up bad memories for you. :(

Since I now know how far you are into Luke Cage, I'll wait until you're done to get more into why I didn't like it as much as the other two shows.

Totally forgot she was on Gilmore Girls (AHHHH almost time for that show to come back!). Honestly, I can't even remember what I don't like her from. I saw her in Veronica Mars and she was fine in that. :confused3

RIGHT?! That happened and I was just like, "...oh." :faint:

Packing List! Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend

Someone is going to give me grief for the following LENGTHY list, but hey - I gotta be prepared! ::yes::

This is my packing list for Wine & Dine - the race-related stuff only.

For the expo:

  • $$$ for expo purchases, though I'm going to try to cut back on this (I was SO proud of myself for not spending very much at Tink! :wizard:). However, I remember there being a sale on the New Balance shoes at the Disneyland expo, so if they're doing that again...I may buy a pair of the Dumbo shoes. They are the same model as my Ariel shoes I bought at Tink, which I like a lot!
  • Annual Pass for discount if I end up buying any official merchandise (note to self: get annual pass BEFORE going to expo)
  • Signed race waivers for myself and Mr. A
  • ID for myself and Mr. A
  • Order confirmation for pin bundle that I pre-ordered
  • Besides possible official merch and shoes (only if they are on sale), the two things I am interested in getting at the expo are a roll of KT Tape (always good to have around just in case) and maybe a Spibelt. I really hate wearing things on my waist when I run, though, so I am currently experimenting with a shoe wallet hoping that that will hold what I need! Or maybe I'll find a better shoe wallet at the expo?
For the races:
  • Shoes (1 or 2 pairs, haven't decided yet)
  • Socks - 3 pairs for me, 1 for Mr. A
  • Running bottoms (Holiday Skirt or Capris if they arrive in time, Bee Skirt, Kimono Skirt and Mr. A's Rockstar shorts)
  • Running undergarments (3 bras)
  • Running tops (Holiday Sweater, my modified Circuit tank, Kimono top and Mr. A's Circuit top)
  • RaceDots...I have 3 sets (black, pink and skulls) and I’ll bring all 3
  • Garmin + charger
  • My and Mr. A's Magic Bands (obviously we're bringing these anyway, but as they are our room key, they NEED to come to the races)
  • Head gear (Holiday Tech tube and 2 Sweaty Bands)
  • Running sunglasses...which I'm thinking will only be needed for the 5K and half
  • Throwaway clothes, if needed
  • Sweat- and water-proof sunscreen (Neutrogena - again, I think I'll only need this for the 5K and half marathon)
  • Body Glide!! :faint:
  • FOOD...each of the following in its own gallon Ziploc bag:
    • 5K: bagel from our favorite local place, travel-sized peanut butter, coffee creamer, plastic knife
    • 10K: 2 bagels from our favorite local place, 2 travel-sized peanut butters, coffee creamer, 2 plastic knives, 1 Salted Caramel Honey Stinger Waffle for Mr. A as a pre-race snack (he thinks they are quite delicious)
    • Half: bagel from our favorite local place, travel-sized peanut butter, coffee creamer, plastic knife, 2 Vanilla Honey Stinger Waffles
  • Disposable coffee cups with lids (4) - will make coffee in the room to take to corrals (Mr. A takes his black :crazy2: so all of those coffee creamers I mentioned above are for me)
  • Some cash, extra hair tie and a small packet of Kleenex (in small Ziploc baggie in skirt pocket during each race)
  • 4 plastic grocery bags...one for each race to help carry all of the stuff they give us in the finisher area
  • Phone...for pictures!!!
Visual representation of allll of this crap (this picture is from Dopey 2015):
16270854291_6d8646aefa_z.jpg

For post-race:

  • The Stick (maybe, haven't decided for sure if I want to bring it)
  • Neosporin (hopefully will not need this...but I think I will. I think I'm losing some "fluff" so to speak, and whenever that happens, my clothes don't fit me quite as well and I chafe more )
  • Bandaids (hopefully will not need this)
  • Ibuprofen (hopefully will not need this)
Somehow I want most of this to go in my carry-on...how that will happen I have no idea. :scratchin
Despite the length of this list, I must ask...DID I FORGET ANYTHING?! :rotfl2:

I've been gathering some of this stuff (so far I have the coffee creamer, peanut butter, plastic knives and Honey Stinger waffles) and, as insane as it sounds, I've started packing my race outfits. Or at least I've been setting them aside (now that I have had a successful run in Kimono, that one has been washed and set aside). It's still early but I don't want to accidentally end up having to do some last-minute laundry right before we leave!

Related note: Hey, runDisney...can we get some course maps, corrals and waivers already?!

You rang ... ?

  • The Stick (maybe, haven't decided for sure if I want to bring it)

For serious, though, if you don't want to travel with The Stick - I've got one of those and a foam roller at the house you're welcome to borrow!

Shannon, can you link to the pics of your Daisy themed running outfit? I know you posted it but I don't remember where and I am too lazy to go thru all of your links, lol! I am thinking of that for the marathon. :)

Your list looks good to me!
Also, in terms of the plastic knives, if you don't want to travel with them or you think you don't have enough ... we always steal them from the quick service locations in the park (seriously, the first day of our trip, our bag gets filled with assorted plasticware).

You're forgetting me. If I do one more yoga DVD I think I could be flexible enough to try to fit in your carryon. I may eat the waffles you pack though. Hope your carryon has wheels cause I'm no small thing :)

Ok, but seriously...great list! I always pack bandaids...but I'm a klutz at times. And I vote 2 pairs of shoes in case one gets wet for whatever reason. Also glad I'm not the only one who brings grocery bags with her places. Every hockey game I have one in my coat pocket :)

Great list!! The disposable coffee cup thing is such a great idea - learned to do this after trying to chug coffee before we left the room. So much easier if you can take it with you, and saving $$ and time not buying it at the race! I would definitely take the stick - there's always room to wedge it in the suitcase. If you don't need it, awesome, but that thing has been a lifesaver for me in the past!
What is up with rD taking so long with these races getting out course info and bibs? I feel like it used to be available much earlier...
Shop smart at the expo! I feel like I have gotten really picky about what I buy at the expo (I don't need ALL THE THINGS anymore!), and so much of the stuff is either gone when I get there or it is just generic rD stuff and not race related. Choose wisely!

Your list is a thing of beauty! :lovestruc
I should have known you'd like it, as a follow appreciator of spreadsheets and lists! :lovestruc
Wow what a list! I need to take notes for January...
:thumbsup2

I just may take you up on that!!

GENIUS! I never would have thought of that! :scratchin

Now that I think of it, I could probably get the disposable cups and lids from the QS place, too. HMM...
You're forgetting me. If I do one more yoga DVD I think I could be flexible enough to try to fit in your carryon. I may eat the waffles you pack though. Hope your carryon has wheels cause I'm no small thing :)
Um, yes you are. I have seen the pictures you post of yourself! :)

Good call with the shoes. If they got soaked (knock on wood) I guess I would grab a newspaper and stuff them to dry out, but that would be a little stressful...two pair it is! ::yes::

I am pretty sure I will just pack it. I am definitely an over-packer!!
What is up with rD taking so long with these races getting out course info and bibs? I feel like it used to be available much earlier...
Ugh, I know. At least we have waivers now...but I am NOT impressed with the half marathon course map I have seen. We waited all of that time and then they just re-used my least favorite portions from other courses! I'm happy to be running the race but I think they could have done better.
Shop smart at the expo! I feel like I have gotten really picky about what I buy at the expo (I don't need ALL THE THINGS anymore!), and so much of the stuff is either gone when I get there or it is just generic rD stuff and not race related. Choose wisely!
I'm gonna try! I think I want the "I did it" shirt(s) and a Sweatyband or two, but otherwise I'm gonna try to not spend too much! I've ended up re-selling some of the stuff I've bought on Facebook later anyway...definitely going to try to be more thoughtful with my purchases. ::yes::

I like to think of over-packing as ensuring I won't need all the things (think umbrella, multiple shoes, medecine, jackets etc.) The whole rule that if you bring something you won't need it. Because I don't ever want to be the reason it rains or anyone gets sick (from not packing something and jinxing the trip.) So you can see how I end up with too much stuff every trip :)
But lately I have started to not pack things I know I can get if needed where I am staying, so I've gotten better. But yeah...still over pack.

Also I think I may be opposite of you for my next expo. I've often held-back on buying things because I've only been doing shorter races and there's usually not much for the 5k type crowd. So when I finally get to my first half marathon expo, I'm gonna be out of control. And will have to ask myself the dreaded "but will I use this in the real world" questions. Which are no fun, but practical.
