Quest Kiosk Guide

-Building A Quest-
Before Note: Before you can create a quest you need to buy a quest. To get a quest Complete the Adventure through Inner Space Quest in order to gain access to the Inner Space Shop (formerly Star Trader). In the shop you can purchase the Quest Kiosk. Now you are on your way to creating your own Quests that everyone in the kingdom can enjoy. HINT: Start with the Ships and Shipwrecks Quest and the Lights, Engines, Action! Quests as they may come in handy when trying to complete the Adventure in Inner Space Quest.

The first step to creating your own Quest is the Tasks tab. This is where you set your players on their path and provide them with the information necessary to complete your Quest.

Tasks tab:
Open the "Add New Task" window. Now you can decide what kind of task you would like players to complete. Here is a list of your options:

Acquire Item - This task requires your players to win, buy, trade or find an item from the selection list that pops up. The item must be something which you already own.

Change Clothes - Choose this task to make players change their costumes.

Dance - With the Dance task, all they have to do is get down and boogie!

Earn Money - Make your players work. You set the amount of credits they must earn.

Emote - Select an emotional icon for players to display.

Find an Item - Hide one of these six items somewhere in VMK for your players to find.

Make New Friends - This task is as simple as adding someone to be your friend.

Multiple Choice - If you're feeling in the mood to give a pop quiz, you can come up with your own questions and answers.

Play a Mini Game - Choose the game and wish your players good luck as they try to reach the score you set.

Play a Song - Tell your players to head over to the Music Mix game to spin some of their best tracks.

Say a Word - Make your players say a word. This is a sure fire way to quiz them with a question that is too easy for multiple choice.

Sit Down - Give your players a chance to rest their feet and take a seat.

Spend Money - You set the amount of money that players must spend. Give them hints by naming items that cost the same amount.

Trigger a Magic Spell - Choose a magic spell from the pins you have earned and your players will have to perform the same spell.

Visit a Room - Choose a room that your players must visit before they continue on their Quest.

Visit an NPC - Choose a character form the VMK world (not a player character) for players to find.

Wave - Your players must wave.

Make sure when you are creating a quest that all the information is clear. If not your friends might not know what you mean. For example Instead of just saying Find a Jewel. You might want to say Find a Jewel at the Matterhorn. Make sure that your being specific with your information.

A few Examples:

Confusing [] Not Confusing
------------------------------------
Pick them up! [] Pick up the clovers in this room
Buy something [] Buy the tiki idol
Run Away! [] Run Away to the gallery!

What I'm saying Is give alot of information. Don't have quick, confusing clues.

For each task you may set a timer (optional) and include a picture (optional). In order to include a picture, you must take it before you begin designing your Quest. If you want to add a picture at a later date, you must review your Quest which kickes out all players currently playing your game

Prizes Tab:
Option 1 - Choose prizes for your winning players. Prizes can be awarded in order of best Quest performance. This means you can set the best prizes for the best players!

Option 2 - You can give out credits and/or items to your players. You can give different prizes depending on how well the players do. For instance, the player that comes in first can win 100 credits and inferno magic and the second place player could wind 50 credits and a pirate hat.

Settings

There are two different ways your can have your Quest end:

When all the prizes have been awarded - First come, first served. Players win prizes by being the first to finish the Quest. The Quest ends when all the prizes are gone.
When a timer has run out - You set a length of time that your Quest runs. When the Quest closes, players who took the least amount of time to finish win the best prizes.
Quest Name: Choose a fun name for your Quest.
Quest Description: This is an important part of your Quest building. Be sure to include tasks that may limit players from finishing. For example, if you hide an item in the Nautilus Grotto, make sure players know they need the DeepSea magic pin first, or if you plan to make them spend 1000 credits, they should know that they will have to give up some money to complete the Quest.

Testing and Launching Your Quest
You will have to test your Quest before you can launch it to make sure it is possible to complete all of the tasks. Any time you make changes to your tasks, prizes or settings, you must re-test your Quest.

Once you have successfully tested your Quest, you may launch it right away or any time later on (as long as you don't make changes).

If you want to make changes after you have launcher your Quest, keep in mind that all players will be kicked out of the Quest. They will have to restart after you have made changes.

Hope I Helped!!!
thanks WDWfan36 for the in dept Kiosk Guide.

Guide to all things BETA

WORK in progress!!! Please forgive the quad post but it saves room to keep the topic together. If its a problem mods, delete away with minimal hard feelings LOL j/k

A good friend asked me to write this guide up, so how could I refuse?

What is BETA?

BETA - A version of an application that is made available prior to the official release for the purposes of testing.

On May 23rd, 2005 VMK opened for BETA testing and on June 27th, 2005 The BETA period ended.

Several items that could previously be purchased in that BETA period were no longer available to be bought. These are the items that became known as BETA.

It is important to understand that there will never be an addition to the BETA list. Retired items are just that and will become rare over time but will never become BETA.

Day 1 badges were given to players who started before the BETA period ended on June27th.

I will list the furniture items in 3 categories. Things that have never come back or very limited quantities, Things that came back on sale again, and things people call BETA that are not.

Here is a list of the items that became known as BETA and have YET to return in VMK. These are the most rare items in VMK. I will rate them between 1 – 3 stars for this category, 3 being the most rare *IMO* (some items were released as quests prizes but in very limited capacity, with the exception of the pink slipper chair which had big circulation as a quest prize)

Black Haunted Mansion candlestick **

Yellow Haunted Mansion candlestick **

Sea green cactus arm chair *

Red Davey Crockett’s Canoe couch ** ˝

Orange Grand ballroom ghostly organ *** (this is probably the most rare beta piece of furniture)

Red Tee Pee ** ˝

Cyan Ariel’s treasure ** ˝

Yellow Glass slipper **

Red Crate *

Purple Pirate Piano **

Pink Tiki ***

Pink Slipper Chair * (was given as a prize in a quest that anyone who completed received!)

Green Tea Cup ***

Flying Saucer Cyan ** ˝

Flying Saucer Green ** ˝

Green Pirate Throne * (In June was given in a larger capacity as a host prize, and was also low capacity quest prize)

Purple Pirate Treasure Chest ***

Blue Underwater organ ***

Things that are often called BETA but are not. These are still very rare items and I will rank them 1 – 3 stars *IMO*. 3 being the most rare

Cyan Rocket couch ***

Green Rocket couch ***

Black Rocket couch ** ˝

Purple Rocket couch ** ˝

Yellow Rocket couch **

Orange Rocket couch **

Blue Rocket couch * ˝

Light Blue rocket couch * (given out as a quest prize in large capacity!)

Rocket couches are almost always called BETA but they were actually retired just after the BETA period. They are also the first item to ever be rumored to return to the stores and to date it has still never happened.

1. Choose a favorite outfit for your character

2. Take a screen shot of your character (preferably on a white background, like in an Everest room)

How to take a screen shot:

In Windows: Press the "Prt Scr" or "Print Screen" button. It will copy whatever you see on the screen to your clipboard. Then you can paste it wherever you want.

If you're using a Mac: (the following has not been verified by me, so if anyone can confirm it -- I'd appreciate it). Press Command + Shift + #3 key all at once to take a picture of the entire screen. Pressing Command + Shift + #4 keys all at once will allow you to take a picture of whatever area you select with the mouse. The pictures will be saved in the main level of your hard drive, and it will be called "Picture 1," then "Picture 2," etc. Screen shots are saved in PICT format.

3. Paste your screen shot into your favorite Paint program, and edit.

If using PAINT: Click "Edit," then "Paste." Your image will appear in the Paint window. There you can preview your image (Click "File" --> "Preview"), and Print if you like the size of your current image. If you would like to enlarge or reduce the size of your image, you can play with "Image" --> "Stretch." To keep your image in proportion, be sure to use the same percentage for horizontal and vertical.

If using a program such as PAINT SHOP PRO (PSP): Click "Edit," then "Paste." Your image will appear in the PSP window. Now you can do many things to your image, including sharpening the focus, enlarging or reducing to a size you specify, and taking out the background image or color. Newer versions of PSP easily allow you do one click changes. If you need any specific information on how to do any of this, just send me a PM and I will be glad to help.

Changing the size of your image in PSP: I have made my flats about 4" high. You can make yours larger or smaller -- it's all a matter of preference. If you would like to enlarge your image, click "Image" --> "Resize." The locations of actions may be different in different versions of PSP, but you can run a search in there to find out where "resize" is for example. You can crop your image to remove excess background, then choose what size to make your image, and remove the background completely using the background eraser tool (in PSP X).

Once you have your image ready to print, you can preview it (print preview or print layout). In newer versions, print layout allows you to view how your image looks on a printed page, and you can move them around and position them as you like. You can also resize them here if needed. Then click "print." Choose "properties" to choose the print quality (I always print my flats using "best"), and then "print."

4. Cut out your flat: If you care about having your character looking like he/she is really a little person, then cut your flat out exactly along the lines. If you don't care, you can leave some room around the edges. You can either get your flat professionally laminated at a place such as Staples, or buy a package of small self-adhering laminating paper and laminate it yourself. Pros of professional laminating: flats will be much sturdier and not easy to bend. Either way you decide to laminate, when you cut around the edges of your laminated flat, be sure to leave just a little excess around the edges. Now your flat will be waterproof.

5. Make your flat part of your photo! There are a few ways to make your flat stand alone. You can either stick it to a popsicle stick or straw or... you can get something like "Fun Tak," where you can tear off tiny pieces and stick it to the back of your flat. I choose to use Fun Tak -- it really makes it easy to stick my flat almost anywhere I want, with no sticks sticking out. Be creative! It's YOUR flat!

Now go make your flat!
