Ideas For Early 30's Couple?
MY wife and I are 33 and have been together for 14 years now, married about 5. I was thinking about taking a trip to Disney World but I really don't have a clue. I only went once when I was 10 and my wife went a few times but hasn't in probably almost 20 years. As you can see, this would be the first time for either of us as a couple. We have no kids yet.
I just signed up for this forum and haven't had a chance to browse around yet so I wanted to get my questions out there first. My wife is a teacher so we can only go at peak season. What are some good things to do for us? I know that's a loaded question but I thought I'd ask anyway since I'm pretty clueless right now. I'm just looking for some fun, couples related things and events so any and all suggestions are welcome. Thanks! |

guess that means - spring break, summer, does she get a fall break?

Eat, eat, and eat some more! That may sound a little daunting to your stomach, but what I really mean is make lots of dining reservations! There are plenty of really fantastic sit down restaurants in Disney that are an experience in themselves and certainly cannot be missed.
Consider a Disney Dining Plan which will prepay for a certain amount of your meals. Most importantly, don't forget to make advanced dining reservations. With the popularity of the dining plan on the rise, its hard to sit down for a meal without a reservation.

You also need to really research - read the forums, read books (I recommend the Unofficial Guide to WDW, or "UG" on here), read reviews. For better or worse, a trip to Disney requires planning, and knowledge is power - especially if you are going during peak times. DH and I are taking our first couple's trip in two weeks!
 We are doing some ADRs, but we only have a few days so we will mainly enjoy the parks and our time together - doing the rides, attractions, and shows that we wouldn't be able to do with our kids. There is SO much to do - you are really just limited by your time and your budget. A word of caution: Though planning is necessary, it MAY also become addictive.

I am guessing you want to do more than eat and drink. . .its a vacation after all.
So check out the WDW resorts and see if they have stuff you like to do. Do you like to swim or hang at the pool? If so, check out the resort pools. Do you like animals? Animal Kingdom Lodge would be a great place to stay. Do you like visiting other countries? Epcot's World Showcase may be the place for you to spend time. I am guessing since you haven't been there in a "long" while, you might want to do some of the more "traditional" WDW stuff. . .such as ride roller coasters, dark rides and do some more "normal stuff". While being able to drink and do adult activities, such as dance, is great. . .but also, getting to experience the magic is what makes a WDW vacation over the top. Make dining ressies. You will need them for most restaurants that you may want to visit. . .but don't plan every waking moment. You want some spontaneity. Plan on watching a parade at MK (I like Main Street Electrical Parade) and also fireworks somewhere. You might want to decide on some of the rides and shows are definite must do's. I love the Lion King show at Animal Kingdom as well as Little Mermaid there. At Magic Kingdom, I don't need to ride, just walk around and experience it. . .but that is me. If Disney is "Pirate's of the Caribbean" or "Big Thunder Mountain" to you, then by all means do those things. Don't forget fastpass. Its the one way to get to see some of your most favorite choices without having to wait in uber long lines. When you go during peak times, fastpass is a godsend. . .just saying. Most of all, just have fun. Its a great place to go to just be a kid or be yourself. Disclosure: I am not employed or affiliated with Disney in any way. We are a couple, also in out 30's and are going in Oct for the Epcot F&W fest!
Cannot wait. I have to tell you that I like Disney World better as a grown up than I did as a kid. I just hope my BF likes it. He has never been as an adult. |

I'm in the middle of planning an anniversary trip, it will be the first for just the hubby and me in 8 years since having kids. Having gone to WDW twice in the last year we will be doing rides that frighten our children, the Wishes Dessert Party on Tommorrowland Terrace, Keys to the Kingdom tour, enjoy some adult beverages at Epcot, and have a few ADRs at resort signature restaurants. Also have a late ADR at Rose and Crown so we can hopefully watch Illuminations from a decent spot. Going in less than 2 months, we just decided we need a vacation 2 weeks ago. Thought I'd throw some of our plans out there to give you some ideas. Happy planning!

We have been married for almost four years and don't have any kids either.
We have been on several WDW vacations just the two of us and always have a great time ADR's are your friend, we love the food at WDW, I recommend making some resort ADR's as they tend to be quieter and the food is better (IMO) Jellyrolls is a good choice, as is drinking around the world at EPCOT (or not completing the entire trek but snacking and enjoying WS as only an adult can do!) We also like to spend time doing "normal WDW" stuff, including RD and doing some of our favorite attractions. By getting there for RD, we can pretty much do everything we want to do by about noon and have a relaxing pace for the rest of the day. We always say we want to enjoy the resort, but rarely do. That being said, your resort can have some great amenities and enjoying the pool and the resort grounds can be very relaxing. If you have any questions about anything feel free to ask, always happy to help another couple enjoy WDW

It depends on what you are into:
sports: golf, fishing, RPDE, marathon, bowling, ESPN Club, WWS/ESPN Zone, etc shopping: DTD, area outlet malls, large scale malls drinking: Jellyrolls, Raglan Road, monorail tour of resorts, walking tour of resorts in the Boardwalk area movies: DTD 24 screen theater some with meal servered by waiters night clubbing: Jellyrolls, Atlantic Dance, Raglan Road, Citywalk resort tours: monorail tour of resorts, Boardwalk around the lake tour of resorts, AKL/AKV offsite: Gaylord Palms Resort, Citywalk, swamp tour Update: After reading all the other entries one suggestion, make time to relax /just do nothing. If you go go go all the time you will not enjoy your vacation or the experience of doing nothing. There are several resorts at WDW that help with relaxing, so yes do your research.

For me, the best highlight of Disney as a grown up is Epcot and the Shows/Random Performances. Taking time to actually watch the performers. The entertainment in the various countries is unbeatable if you have the time to watch and no children to get to a ride.
I have seen Belly dancing, Taiko Drumming, Impressive acrobats, Candy Makers, and live bands of all sorts. Also just looking at the buildings and visual displays! Last time I made it a point to go to EVERY country, even the ones that did not list a particular attraction I was interested in. I got the kids passport thing and decided to make the rounds as a grown up. It was fantastic. There were so many hidden treasures I had been missing by just looking at the map and choosing attractions I though sounded cool.

There are also dinner shows: luau and Hoop De Do Revue.
Carriage rides at POR. Many boat ride possibilities for passenger or rental boats. Mini-golf if you guys enjoy that. We could be more relevant if we knew what kinds of activities you guys like.
