People Making You Feel Guilty For Wanting a Solo-Trip

Hello there! I'm Sarah!

I was wondering, does anyone ever make you feel guilty or lame for wanting to go to a Disney park by yourself?

I did a solo Disneyland Paris trip in January and it was amazing. I loved being able to get up when I wanted, to go where I wanted, when I wanted. It was perfect. I had a bad experience going to DLP with a friend last summer and she pretty much put a downer on the trip. She was grumpy and stubborn, and it just put a damper on everything. That's why I loved doing a solo trip. I've always been pretty independent and enjoyed my own company.

Now, I'm planning to go to WDW next summer (it would be my first ever visit). At the moment, I'm thinking of it as a solo-trip. Don't get me wrong, if I find someone I'd like to go with between now and then, then great! But I'm not going to let being alone stop me!

My sister keeps telling me that I should wait until I have someone to go with, and generally just tries to make me feel pathetic for wanting to go alone. She doesn't stop. Whenever I talk about it she keeps saying I should wait until 2015 and go with her. Going to WDW is all I can think about. I can't wait that long, is she crazy??

Sorry for the rant, I just want to know I'm not alone in this??

she is jealous that you can afford to go now and she can't.

go - she would only try to control where and when you go.

so go NOW and enjoy yourself.

She's going with her husband next summer. She's always said she wanted to be the first person to show me WDW lol she is a bit controlling.

Well I won't be able to go to next summer I think I want to go by hook or by crook because I was almost on the college program and all my friends are there now. I need to be there!

Go. Don't worry about what others think. Live your life, not theirs.

I get a lot of comments about taking solo trips to WDW (avg. 3 a year). When someone says "You are going to Disney again?!!" If I respond, it's along the lines of "and I will have a great time!"

Go for it and have a great time!
We have a similar situation. Me and my fiance always go and our plan works great for us based on the times we eat, the hours we are up and come back, etc. Restaurants we like.
We just had this discussion last night. There are others that want to go with us and we were just invited to go with another couple. We like doing our own thing, when we want to do it. For the time and money we spend on this trip, it too valuable to let someone else drag you down. We will continue to go by ourselves because the last trip we took with others, was very depressing. I actually was disappointed when I returned. I am the planner and spent so much time doing everything for everyone, it wasn't magical for me.
Enjoy yourself and do what you want!

Definitely go for if you can. With it being your first time at WDW that would only add to the excitement & allow you to find & explore how you want, instead of being dictated to or shown other people's previous experiences!

the best advice! I know I'd be happy on a solo-trip, so why not?

It's always great not caring what people think! Life's too short not to enjoy the Disney magic whenever you feel like it!

Exactly! If you make the trip yours you can get exactly what you want out of it and not waste a single moment.

Me and my friend didn't actually talk for months after our trip last August :/ it just made me more certain that solo-trips are for me. At least until I find a man ... or someone who I can spend two weeks with and not go insane

I definitely would! I think everyone's concerned because I'm in the UK, traveling to Florida, but it doesn't worry me at all.

Very, very true! That's what I loved about my solo-trip to DLP, the freedom to do whatever I felt like! My family are concerned because I'm in my early 20's, and It's just a bit different traveling from the UK to Florida. I'm not even bothered! I'm just excited/rotfl:

Thanks everyone! It's nice to know I'm not alone!

Go and enjoy yourself! I have been on many solo trips and I enjoy it. Very liberating. Most of my friends and family are very supportive, in fact I can only think of one individual that looks at me oddly when I say that I am going again. He just doesn't get it! Go when you can, have fun and relax.

I completely agree but:
What I tell people is:
Whoever pays the piper calls the music.

If your family/friend wants you to go on a vacation and they are willing to pay for it, go and have a great time on them. If you are paying for the trip you go where and when you choose to go.

Your not alone in this. Some of my friends/family always drop hints on all my solo Disney trips. I say do what makes you happy and enjoy life.

I've been to WDW so many times with others and never got to do all the things I wanted to do. I had to do stuff I wasn't really interested in which I felt was a waste of my Disney time.
Now I am over it and will start doing solo trips, my first one coming up in September. I am looking forward to making a list of stuff I want to do and actually being able to do it all!

Yup! I have people joke all the time about my Disney addiction. I went up solo in Feb and had a great time! Got to ride the same thing a zillion times and went where I wanted when I wanted.

There is so much sensory overload at WDW that you do not need someone with you. Plus, you will make new friends here and there. Go, enjoy yourself!
