Florida Beach VirtualHalfathon

Going to do this. Sounds like something fun to do while training. Best part is that if you are early in your training, you can spread your virtual race out over up to 16 days Plus you get the bling

Another virtual race.. Many people may be familiar with them, but maybe newbies like me arent. I think it's great motivation to keep at it and give you some 'reward' for your hard training. Others may feel differently

I am a newbee runner, started June last year, and like that I can set goals and get rewarded when I do them. Cost is not huge like some races, and I can do it for some local longer races that do not give finisher medals. This will keep me active and running all year. ![]() I understand the premise of the Florida one but struggled with the fact it doesn't have to be 13.1 done at one time. I could see myself with taking the really easy way out and doing a few 5K training runs and calling it good. I think if the medal says half marathon I should do it all at once. I also understand that is the way I feel and am not projecting that onto anyone else. Thanks for posting both of these. |

Totally understand, I am too early in my training to really be trying to do a 1/2 BUT I think I am still going to try to do it but it will be slow... with probably lots of walking
Did the Fl one only give you a choice of 1/2 marathon? or did they give you other choices, but only one medal so that's what you get?

The Fl one looks like the physical race has a 5K and the half but the virtual is only the half.
![]() I am a slow run/walker myself. Did Tinker Bell half in January and ran/walk/ran it and it took me 3 hr and 50 mins to complete. Man am I proud of myself at 50 that I was able to do that. And I REALLY am enjoying the medal and showing it off to others who didn't think I could do it and tried to discourage me. And the ones who did encourage me as well.I am training for a half marathon in DC in April and have signed up for another in May, July and October. I am planning on bettering my time with each race. I think I will put the Fl one on my calendar for next year when I won't be tempted to take the easy way out. I really do like the medal. Are you going to try and run/walk it in one day or spread it out over a couple of days? Maybe a weekend and do half on sat and half on sunday? Kind of like a mini goofy for the new to running.

Well... I did it!!!
By far the longest distance I've ever done. Last 2 miles were horrible, but I made it thru!! I am really ending week 5 of the c25k. I did pretty much a 1:1 run/walk.. run was at 5.0-5.3 mph and walk was 3.6 mph or so... also was at 1.5 incline, normally I do 2 incline so I did back that off a bit. I cant say I suggest everyone do this if you are early in your training, but if you do just make sure you stay hydrated, and fueled.. And if you just dont feel right or something doesnt seem right, just stop, dont overdo it. Below is the garmin data and then the picture. I have to admit it feels pretty freaking good! But also a reality check that was only 1/2 a marathon, and 1/3 goofy ![]() https://connect.garmin.com/activity/282200248
