snow and plane cancellations
flying out of Hartford CT on tuesday , the major part of the snow storm that is suppose to hit tomorrow and sunday should be cleared but they are showing rain/snow shower for tuesday. My question is what is the normal for cancellations , does there have to be severe snowy weather to cancel or have they cancelled before for just a normal snow.....Im nervous because i cant reschedule my trip due to work....

You will have to reschedule if your flight is delayed or canceled. Keep checking your airline's web site for your flight status.

That is difficult to answer because there are too many variables. The biggest factor is can the airport keep the runways, taxiways, and ramp plowed. Sometimes to do this they will close the airport. When this happens the FAA will put delays on flights in order to keep the flights at a manageable level for the airport. If the delays are long enough then this will cause issues with flight crews duty days and airlines may cancel a flight in order to run the rest of that crews schedule. Again the biggest factor with snow is can the plows keep up with it and keep the runways open.

It has to be pretty bad to close the airport. I once flew out of Hartford in a blinding snowstorm. They had a truck with flashers guide us out to the runway, we got deiced right there and off we went.

By Tuesday everything will be back to normal.
That is, nationwide, one in every four flights unloads more than 15 minutes late. One in fifty is cancelled. Unless a new storm is forecast to dump more than 4 inches of snow. If it is likely that an airport may close due to weather, incoming flights arriving hours in advance may be cancelled if the planes can't load up for another flight and depart before the airport closes.
