Yay! I was wondering when someone would start this thread! I and a group of friends from the dis will be doing this! I did it last year but this will be their first.

I had never run anything before signing up last year! Now I am hooked on the running and really look forward to race events. (Didn't do one in December or January.... So I am anxious for the phm this month!)

I hope that since the registration fee is higher for ToT this year it will mean more host resorts.

I also hope that there will be a slight discount for registering for the ToT at the phm expo. I know there was for the phm at the ToT.

Count us in!

My DS (14) and I were aiming for a fall Disney race, so either ToT or W&D. Just saw a pretty decent flight deal with JetBlue out of Syracuse so we booked it! So excited!

Congrats on the good fare deal! I know they are hard to come by these days.

Thanks so much! Just under $340 for both of us - and direct flights to boot. We drive from Ottawa to Syracuse as the flights are always oodles cheaper - but this is even better than we normally get (which is about $500).

I will be there. I am also from Canada and I am flying from Manchester,NH. A lot cheaper than flying with Air Canada from Montréal.
I just love the Disney race: I did the marathon last month (it was my first and last marathon). This year, I want to improve my time in the 10k races to be in a better corral. We will see...
Now it is football time.

That is excellent! I think the last I looked that would be my cost just for me!

I am always wanting to do this too! I think anything I can do to get into a slightly better corral starts me sooner, allows me to finish sooner and keeps me just that much further from the sweepers!

Are all big races like that or just Disney? I've just done the one Disney race, so I'm not sure if the bigger races cities put on have more clear cut running lanes. I think that would be wonderful if Disney were to make announcements or something to leave the left or right side open to runners.

I've always tried to move to the right for my walks, but it never fails that there is a runner trying to cut around right where I'm at. Same with when I start my run intervals -- it always seems like someone else is stopping in front of me.

Put thousands of folks with different ideas on how it ought to work in one place and you've got the chaos of a Disney race!

Personally, I didn't find it to be too bad in last year's TOT. I started in the middle of Corral C and walked most of the first mile; it was a slow start due to congestion and little room for faster folks to break away. Once we got through that first clover leaf onto Osceola, I found plenty of room to both run and take walk breaks without get hung up. As mentioned, it narrowed drastically on the dirt path into WWOS, but I was nursing an injury and welcomed the forced slow walk... I probably would've been more frustrated there, too, if I actually could have run.

Now my friend started in A and reported no problems at all with anyone too slow in front of her, so if you're a faster runner, be sure to submit proof of time to get into the earliest corral possible!

I really don't mind either way where people run/walk, but I bet if Disney announced it when everyone was lining up maybe more people would follow it. I'm sure no one was doing it on purpose, but like you said no one was quite sure of the etiquette.
I just want to offer thoughts on a couple statements.

First, many races do give instructions on what they think slower folks should do. Disney asks that folks run/walk no more than two abreast. Offering much more could create ill will on course if a runner were not exactly following anything more absolute.

The old etiquette (pre-Gallowalker) asked slower folks to stay course center. As stated, this to allow faster runners the tangent. This still holds true if you are running on a track.

The rule has morphed to move to the side of the course when slowing. Note this is not a move to the right rule, rather move to either side. When slowing, look ahead and choose the side of the course that will not be the tangent (or inner radius) of a bend. Also, when in a crowded section, leave a runner's width between you and the edge of the roadway. There is a faster line of runners who will run on that edge in an effort to avoid weaving.

When slowing, do look around to make sure you do not have a tailgater who will not see you slow and wave a hand to let folks know you are slowing.

Really there is no clear rule on what to do and even if announcements were made, many 'offenders' would not think they were aimed at them. This year, Galloway had pace groups competing with the Clif groups in the half and full and these guys were really the worst offenders of slowing where they were, slowing as a group in congested areas and walking more than 2 abreast. Congestion will be a Disney fact of life as courses are being sold to their maximum capacity and 10 mm runners and slower having to deal with the carnage. If one really wants a PR race for better placement at Disney, look to a smaller local race. Run Disney to have a great time.

I just booked the great JetBlue deal last night! We had some credit from our 1/2 marathon trip last month when our plane was diverted for 6 hours (yuck!) so it was a no-brainer to go down for the TOT! I can't wait!!

I am going to be registering on the 12th for my first Run Disney event, ToT and then participating in 2014 Princess 1/2.

Can anyone tell me what time online registration opens that day?

I think it's been 12pm EST in the past. But don't quote me on that!

Villian Bash

Thinking about doing the Villain Bash after the race, how is it? Does it get really crowded? Since I am signing up for the race, I don't have to pay for it but someone who isn't running has to buy the ticket, correct?

Correct. I didn't find it to be overly crowded, but I did finish the race pretty late...

Last year didn't feel very crowded at all- I finished in just over 2 hours, then freshened up, and we only waited 30 minutes for TSM! Would have stayed longer but right after TSM I joined the fun of puking So this year, I plan to just hang around, no rides, just take in the characters and entertainment

I am staying at BWV and was wondering if it's not a host resort, can I walk over to the start by taking the path to HS?
