Honestly, what does it really matter.
I think their look is softer, more feminine and a little younger. They looked more like grown women before when they are all supposed to be in the late teens, early twenties. |

To me, it's like they are trying to make them look "sexier", especially Belle's come hither look and hair style. Eww..

The top photo has subtle differences from the original artwork for all of them, but most of those are attributable to different media and years upon years of technological update. Snow White in that image hadn't undergone any significant structural changes. Some richer colors is about it. same with the rest. The Animators reference is the original. Some more vibrant colors is pretty much the only change.
The new images on the other hand represent structural changes to the character's features.

They look like contestants on Ru Paul's Drag Race.

I don't like the new princess makeovers AT ALL. The appearance no longer looks classic and timeless, something that could be appreciated through generations. The new designs, to me, look more young and flirtatious, almost sexy. There's nothing wrong with that, but it seems Disney is trying to modernize the princesses, which I don't think is necessary.

The pictures I saw of Cinderella's in-park makeover did not bother me at all. However, there's something about the look in the artwork that just feels...creepy to me. It's the dropped eyelids, the looking up through the eyelashes, the tilt of the heads with the lifting of one shoulders...it is all very come-hither. Even Rapunzel looking up with those overly-wide eyes and twisting her hair around her finger. The artwork has "male gaze" written all over it. Some of those features appear in the older artwork--Snow White does have her chin tilted and shoulder raised--but there's a more innocent quality to it. I think the eyes and expressions make a huge difference. The new artwork has been tweaked just across the line between innocent and...well, creepy.
