Need some point wisdom please!

Still trying to figure out the ins and outs of points and banking, don't know why it confuses me so much. Here's my situation: aug use year
197 points remaining (2012)
We want to head back in may 2014. These above points will not be usable for that, even if banked, correct? But we can use the 2013 points and borrow from 2014? Please help me get my facts straight!! Thank you!!

Your Aug 2012 points now expire on July 31, 2013. If you bank them into 2013 they would then expire on July 31, 2014. So, you can bank them into 2013 and use them in May 2014. BUT if you end up having to cancel that trip you will be SOL since the points will expire in just a couple of months.

thanks so much, that is really helpful to know! So then when planning the may trip we would have the banked points plus the ones we get on Aug. 1 2013. However, we still wouldnt have enough for a GV and wanted to try one. Could we pull from Aug 2014 to put towards it?

Calling Member Services is always a good resource whenever I get confused about points. Even if I am sure I know I usually call to confirm what I think I know.

Don't mean to hijack this thread, but I always have a mental block with the banking/borrowing bit as well. I have a trip planned for May 2013, basically using the remaining 2013 points that I had (I have a March UY, but had already borrowed points from 2013 UY).

After the May trip, I'll have 10 points remaining in my 2013 UY. I am planning a trip for August 2013 and Jan. 2014. I will have to borrow points from my 2014 UY for these trips. IF I had to cancel either of these trips, would the points go back to the 2014 UY (so I would have until Feb. 2015 to use) or would they become part of the 2013 UY and I'd have to use them by Feb. 28 2014?

The latter. Once points are borrowed, they can't be un-borrowed or banked.

Here's what helped me when I first joined. First, figure out the UY your trip will take place. Once you know that, its easier because any trip can be paid for using banked points for the UY prior to travel, points from the UY of travel, and borrowed points from the UY after travel.

So, if I have a June UY and want to travel in February 2015, I know that trip will be in my 2014 UY. That means I can use banked 2103 UY points, 2014 points and borrow 2015 points.
