flag ceremony
we are planning a large family reunion trip. My FIL is a veteran and I think he would like to do the flag ceremony. Has anyone been chosen for this. How do you go about being chosen or at least increase your odds? Is there somewhere you go to let someone know you would be interested?

I found this online about tricks to getting picked to do the Flag Ceremony. I really hope he gets to participate! It was one of my favorite things to participate in on my CP!

Flag ceremony
Based on what I've read, if you get there right at RD, and your FIL is wearing clothing that makes him stand out as a veteran (Blue veterans hat, for example), that might increase his chances of getting asked, but no guarantee!
I'd like to do this when I visit WDW in September, so on any days we go to MK, I'll be wearing a OIF Veteran t-shirt, and my OIF Veteran blue cap! When I went to MK last Feb, I still went to the flag ceremony, and still saluted as the flag was lowered! That my itself was good for me! Anyone else have any tips/suggestions for us Veterans regarding this? Perhaps a CM can give some advice?

I'd love to know this as well. My hubby is active duty now and my grandpa (who we're bringing with us) is a Korean War veteran.

The only thing that you can try on your own is to go directly to MK's City Hall (MK Guest Relations) early in the morning when the park opens, and ask.
It may, or may not do you any good, but that's as close as you can get to being proactive in this regard.

We were there in May and I tried desperately to try and get my grandfather picked for the flag retreat. I went to city hall and asked every cm that I saw. I was told that it was a random decision, but was never given any insight on how. We were there at rope drop the first morning and the second morning we were there at 7:30 for our breakfast at CP. (He had his navy hat on and talked to everyone he saw.) Good luck- I hope you can figure it out. If you do, come back and let us know!

It is then at the discretion of the CM(s) whose job it is that day to choose. The CM(s) will likely be out in the park on reconnaissance.
