Military Tickets
We have already booked and bought the tickets under my grandfather's military discount. My grandparents were goign to be going with us down to Disney World this coming weekend. But my grandmother had an awful fall and now she is on bedrest until further notice. They insist that we go this weekend without them because this is the only time we can til summer and we hate going in the summer. Does anyone know if we need my grandfather to be there with us the first day to enter the park even tho he has already purchased the tickets and showed he is retired military?

The small print says military ID must be presented for purchase and admission to the park. I don't have any experience on whether they actually check or not, but that small print kept me from asking my dad to buy my tickets for me.

Thanks, I just hate how tickets have already been purchased and will be wasted.

I would ask grandpop to write and sign a letter explaining his dilemma and take it and a photocopy of the id with me.

I doubt it. The tickets are good until Sept 30, so you can still use them this summer if grandma gets well enough to go.
Here's a site that is dedicated to military discounts at WDW/FL http://www.militarydisneytips.com/index.html I don't know if he has a place to ask questions, but you might find some more help there. |

I'm so sorry about what happened!!
If it's the special military tickets, then yes (the ones that were $156 for 4-days), he will need to be present with his military ID to activate the tickets. I did this last summer with a friend, and we had to go to a ticket window fill out a little half-sheet of paper and answer questions at the ticket window before they activated it. |

The rules are very firm on this. The service member or spouse must be present at a WDW ticket or Guest Relations window to activate prepurchased Armed Forces Salute Tickets. We are told in the booths that under the agreement with the military we are not permitted to make any exceptions.
I can bend, twist, or mangle rules as I see fit at my window, but this is one I must follow without any changes.

We gave always had to show ID.
I don't know if this is possible, but you might be able to sell the tickets back at Shades of Green. That is the DOD hotel and there is a ticket counter open until 7pm I really have no idea if they will do that but maybe they can verify they haven't been used and if you explain what happened... |
