Activity and Book ideas for nephew in the hospital
My 22 year old nephew has been in the hospital for 3 weeks because of heart failure. The doctors thought they may be able to do surgery, but they decided the damage is too great and the only option is a heart transplant.
So my nephew will be in hospital until a heart is found for him. We want to put together a care package to send to the hospital. Maybe some activites, UNO, joke books (he has a great sense of humour ), movies, etc.He is 22 years old, but functions at a 6th grade level. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

Word Find and simple cross word puzzle books, Trivia Book about a favorite topic (sports, Disney, etc), maybe the family may want to go together on a simple tablet that includes games, etc....I've seen them advertised at Big Lots for under $100--never really looked into them but they may be worth considering.

How about the I Spy type of books? My children are in 4th grade but read at a higher level and they love the Diary of a Whimpy Kid Books (humorous for any age) and Goosebumps (a little scary) Books.
Does he like Lego's? Maybe a small lego set, that he can do on the tray table? Chrissy |

If he likes Disney, how about The Kingdom Keepers series by Ridley Pearson. There are five books that I know of, and I thought I had seen number six but I'm not sure. (I just bought #4 yesterday.)

my sons loves these books that thier aunt bought them for Christmas from Barnes & Nobles.. it's sort of like a "ripley's believe it or not" style of book.. each book focus'es on different topics like "strange" animals, areas, people, etc. He reads through these constantly.
Boys are harder as most people don't buy boys "craft" type kits, but my boys love doing crafts.. so if he seems like a boy that would enjoy building or doing crafts I would say lego's are a good ideal also

Thanks for the suggestions. I have a lot of those books from when my teenagers read them. Thanks for the reminders.

Deck of cards are good, electronic Monopoly might work.
Rick Riordan books are excellent, too I hope things progress smoothly for your nephew and your family. |
