Epcot Major Announcement Thursday? - The DIS Discussion Forums

I heard from friends who are cast members that epcot has an announcement thursday... anyone else hear this? and what do you think it could be? finally doing something with the image pavillion?

If I had to guess (and this is just a guess) I'd say World of Colour replacing Illuminations.

i just don't know how they would put world of color there just because at disneyland you only can watch it from one side they would have to make it able to view from any of the part of the world showcase but i would love it if it was that!

Illuminations still ranks highly among guess so i doubt they do anything to it

Given the trend of Disney to over-hype "big announcements" its probably just some new limited time magic pins or t-shirts.

The lagoon at Disney California Adventure had to be concrete-lined and the water constantly filtered to keep debris and contaminants from harming the equipment.

I don't see that as being a realistic venture at Epcot.

Whenever there's a big, pre-planned media event, it means there WON'T BE anything that Disney park fans would consider big announcements.

If there's a media event in May, it's likely to promote Disney's "Monstrous Summer" campaign, Limited Time Magic, and possibly Disney's Magic Bands (although implementation delays might make Disney's Parks & Resorts marketing folks ignore Magic Bands for now). When Disney invites newspaper people, television reporters, and favored bloggers, it means that Disney wants those media people to make the general public aware of Disney "magic" to drive immediate business.

For theme park projects that won't be open for several years, Disney would prefer the general public to remain UNAWARE of such projects until the timing is right. Fans will know and care, but there's no reason to have a big event. That last thing Disney wants is for the general public to postpone their WDW and DLR vacations because "they're adding something big in 2016."

This year's D23 Expo in August might have some announcements that Disney fans care about. Or at least it's likely there will be some additional details about Avatar Land, Disney Springs, and the next phase of enhancements to Disney California Adventure.

It won't be Illuminations related unless they're revamping part of the show. I recently went to Disneyland for the first time, and honestly, World of Color just wouldn't feel right at Epcot.

Yes, they are having a big media event this week. Not sure if there are going to be any park specific announcements though, and nothing specific to EPCOT. So far the rumors have been rather ho-hum (Official announcement of GF DVC, refurb on Disney Magic, timing for Mine Car ride...etc...). Not impossible that they shock somone, but it's been a LONG time since Disney has surprised with a big announcement. (I would say that was Avatar which came pretty out of the blue - no pun intended.)

Slightly OT but this recurring talk of an "official announcement" of the Grand Floridian DVC is confusing to me. Disney officially announced the project in December 2011. They sent out press releases...

In the past, Disney has taken a different approach. They spent 3 years building the Bay Lake Tower before acknowledging it would be a DVC property. But in the case of Grand Floridian, an announcement was made before active construction work even began.

That said, they could certainly release new details in the coming days.

The mine ride is 7 months ahead I'm not sure if anyone knows or not and they are for sure adding cars land but they haven't made the official announcement on it yet even though its already planned so maybe thats it? but i heard its specific to epcot
