thinking about switching...

We are currently booked at CSR from Jan. 25th-Feb 7th. Its me, DH, DD7 DD2 and DS 4 months. I'm thinking of finally making the switch to WL. should I? We've never stayed at CSR or WL so I don't know what to expect from either of them. ..is WL worth the extra money?

We've never stayed at CSR so I can't comment on that resort, but we love the WL. The grounds are beautiful, the lobby is breathtaking and is a great place to sit and relax, the pool is fun, and Roaring Forks is great for quick CS meals/snacks. We also love the WL transportation as the boat to MK (as well as to the CR) is great, as are the buses to the other parks (there's also a bus to MK that is direct with no stops). Worth is subject as it's different for everyone, but for us, the extra cost for WL would be worth it over a moderate.

CSR is a nice resort, we just stayed there two weeks ago. Our room was clean, the food court was nice, the price was right, and I would definitely stay there again. The only negative was how huge and spreadout the resort is. Your room could be near the pool and really far from the food court, or vice versa. Of course you can make a request for a certain building or location.

Now when you jump up to the deluxe resort category to me it's a whole new ballgame. More luxury, more amenities, there are balconies, interior hallways, more dining options, additional transportation, etc. The WL is a gorgeous resort, they are in the process right now of expanding their pool area which should be completed before your trip in January. I believe it's slated to reopen November 27th. We'll be staying there over Christmas so I've been keeping tabs on it. You should checkout WDWKOOK's WL FAQ thread, it is an incredible resource for anything and everything you'd want to know about the WL.

I've never stayed at CSR but made my first stay at WL last year and fell in love! That being said, just because I liked it does not mean your family will. I love to tour resorts so I have known for years that I wanted to stay at the WL because of my visits there in the past. For us, WL has a theme we love, a one building layout, close bus stop, and the option to boat over to MK. I also enjoy that the price tag is significantly less than the other deluxe resorts. The Whispering Canyon café is great and Roaring Forks is nice but has less offerings that a moderate quick service does.

Both are great!

My family of four (DH, DS13 and DD11) stayed at CSR in December 2010, and then stayed at WL in September of 2013. We really liked both. We prefer WL for a couple of reasons though. WL is all one building - it's much more compact and easy to get around. We are not fans of Disney bus service as a whole, so we prefer to drive to all the parks except MK. However, we spend a lot of time at the Magic Kingdom, and enjoy taking the boat over from the WL.

Plus - WL is an absolutely gorgeous resort. But you really can't go wrong with either. If your budget doesn't allow for WL, CSR is a beautiful resort and would definitely be my second choice.

I think it's pretty hard to compare when you're talking about two resorts in different categories like this.

When people ask if it's worth upgrading from moderate to deluxe, my response is usually that if financially they're comfortable doing it than yes. CSR is a very nice resort, but it is a moderate so you have multiple buildings, longer walks to get to the main areas, and in this case a lack of "fun" transportation and the prime location most deluxe resorts give you. CSR does have better QS than WL IMO, so if that's big for your family that's something to consider.

WL is one building, which is nice if the weather is bad. It's located very close to MK and has a boat/bus to get there, as well as a boat to get to FW and CR. Its QS isn't as good as CSR, but we've found that in general the moderate resorts have better QS than the deluxe resorts. It has Whispering Canyon Cafe which we really like for dinner and I've heard is nice for breakfast too, it also has a signature restaurant which may or may not matter to you guys.

I think you'll have a great time at either resort, but if you can WL isn't a big financial stretch I would upgrade.

It's all a matter of tastes. Are you more into the woods/totem/native or more into the "exotic feel"? (Exotic depending on where you come from...)

Is having a door giving on a hallway really important to you?

If you can swing it financially, I think the deluxes are always "worth it"! They are a fabulous experience and greatly enhance my enjoyment of the trip.

WL is my "home resort". One of my very best friends feels just as strongly about CSR and always stays there. It's worth a lot to me not to have to ride buses.

IMO, WL is worth it over CSR. Normally. The boat access to MK is great, as well as the boat to FW and CR. As for the resort itself, WL is our favorite theme in all of WDW.

If you're really considering it, though, keep in mind the work being done on the feature pool at WL, which was mentioned above. It is supposed to be shut down until around Thanksgiving. Hopefully it won't be delayed. I'd keep an eye on that and make sure it's going to be done before the switch. Not only does it close the feature pool, but will surely have an affect on the entire WL courtyard while the work is being done. If there was anything that would affect my decision to stay at WL, work such as this would be it (aside from cost of course).

WL is awesome, but CSR ain't shabby. If you can swing it to stay at WL that's great, but CSR has a lot to offer too.

We have stayed at WL our last four trips, all since we had kids and we loved it! We can't stay there now since our third child is 3 and since most of the rooms only sleep 4 and one under 3, well, we have too many people now! Since you still qualify to sleep in a room that sleeps 4 I say if you can afford it go for it. Once your third is 3 it probably won't be an option for you, so it's worth it for the experience! I've never stayed at CSR, but I've heard it may not have the kid appeal as CBR or POR/POFQ. Good luck in your decision!

Given your family make up of very young children and a baby, I think WL would suit you best. Or, if you decide on CRS, I would suggest a business class booking to make your location building 9B, as well as access to a business class lounge in building 9B including daily breakfast and drinks and snacks and things in that lounge throughout much of the day. Business class is a little more than preferred room booking. With all that said about CRS business class, I still think WL would be better in your situation.
