Kidani parking/Room requests
Can someone explain Kidani's parking to me? Am I to understand that it is underground? Is this the majority of the parking or not? It would be great to be able to park close to our room! I've requested a room closer to the buses. Do you find that you generally get your requests at Kidani? I know it is no guarantee, just a request.
Thanks!!!

Parking is at ground level, the resort is raised. Parking is available next to elevators that are spaced along the building. Getting your request is a crapshoot depending on several factors.

It is under-building not underground parking since the parking is really the ground floor. It runs throughout the building. There are actually some spots just outside and not under the building but they are just part of the same parking system. There are two wings of rooms, north and south, with south the one that runs closer to Jambo. There are three elevators on each wing, one near the lobby and then two spread down the wing. The result is that no matter where your room is you can park fairly close to it.
We always get savanna view and the first time I went I made no request and was given a room right near the end of the north wing. Since then I have always requested a room close to lobby or close to community hall (the two are essentially the same requests) and have gotten that request every time (five now since the first Kidani reservation). Close to busses would be a similar request but that could leave you a little further from the lobby. What you want to avoid is where we were the first time at Kidani, the end of the north wing. There is literally no longer walk down an internal hallway to the lobby in any other hotel in the universe. We were fairly close to our car because of the elevator system. However, the walk to the lobby is so long that once when I needed to get something quick at the store, I took the car because the walk back and forth would have been forever. Think about being at the base of the World of Nations after you have crossed the main bridge from Future World leaving you between the two stores at the bottom of the World of Nations; now remember how long it is to walk to Germany from there. That is about the distance from lobby at Kidani to end rooms on the north wing.

We have always requested near the lobby and transportation and have always received it. Our four stays have all been in the Timon section, or the section right next to the bus stop, very close to the elevator and parked close to the elevator as well.

You can request near busses (lobby), but not everyone can have those rooms - there are only so many. We just returned today from KV, and had villa 7762 - which is almost at the end of the hallway. It was our 3rd stay at KV, and we have never been assigned a villa that was close to the lobby - but requested that on each trip.
After staying in villa 7762, we may never stay at KV again - the walk to the buses/lobby was just too long. The walk to JH from our villa was simply out of the question - as we were on the opposite side of KV. After a long day at the parks, we ended up dreading the walk back to our villa, and we are a family that is healthy and active - I could not imagine a person with disabilities doing that walk every day. |

We've stayed at KV twice. The first time we were in the 3rd bead on the North wing, very close to the Rafiki elevator. It was just DH and me, and this was not a problem, as we usually drive to the parks anyway.
The second time, we needed a savanna view 2 BR and a standard view studio. We had my 88 yo mother with us. We requested close to Rafiki elevator, as I was trying to minimize walking between lobby, pool, elevator, etc. We were in the 4th bead on the South wing...no where near the Rafiki elevator. My hubby had even gotten there early(ish) as he and my son drove. There was NOTHING available that was closer. We weren't too far from an elevator (just not Rafiki lol). Part of the problem may have been needing a standard and a savanna room. Anyway...first time I got about half my requests. Second time, I got NONE of my requests, except we got two rooms close to each other, but not across the hall. At least we weren't at the end of the hall. Those of us who were able-bodied did the hoofing when necessary, so we adapted. |

Some of the parking is completly under the building (north wing) like shown in a picture in this thread:
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2272789 While some of it is partially under the building (south wing) like shown in a photo on this page. You'll have to scroll down a little bit to find it: http://land.allears.net/blogs/jacksp...idani_village/ Here's another view of the south wing parking (scroll to the bottom of this page): http://www.laughingplace.com/Lotion-View-889.asp

We love the parking at Kidani, but the last time we stayed there we kept coming back so late from EMH's that we had to find spots outside of the parking area almost near the front of the resort. Totally our fault and our room was furthest for where the front of the resort too lol. Just a heads up that it can happen if you don't come back early enough at night you might not find a spot near you room or elevator

Getting your room requests depends also on the time of year you are going and how busy DVC is at that time. Maybe I got my request all the time because we went in mid-May, where others may not have received their requests at a different time of year.

If you are getting a standard view request a room near the buses on the 5th floor facing the magic kingdom. We got a room at this location and were able to see wishes from our balcony.
