Its sad... But true...

Last night we had reservations for Ohanas. Now in 2009 we ate here and it was the highlight of our meals. I could go on and on about how great it was. Now I have seen some people giving poor reviews lately but I guess I was just hoping they were being difficult. (Sorry). I really am not hard to please and I have loved, loved, loved every other place we have eaten this trip.
So ohanas started us with the salad and bread. We were off to a good start. Then they brought over the sauce. Apparently they just have the peanut sauce now. My husband is allergic to peanuts, he breaks out in hives but throat doesn't close. We asked if they had the other sauces anymore and the didn't. Then we got our noodles, they were cold and gummy. Potstickers and wings were ok, nothing to write home about. At some point here I heard the other room was in middle of the kids activities but no one had ever said anything to our table about them starting and we couldn't see due to where we were sitting so my daughter missed them.
Then we were on to the meat. We are big carnivores in our house so I thought this would be it, this would be when it was worth it. My chicken was bland and dry, pork was very fatty, and my waitress was no where to be seen and we never got steak or shrimp brought to our table. I felt like I was in the land of misfits. When our waitress did appear she came with dessert. Now if I remember correctly last time we each got our own dessert, this time we just got one for the table. Now it was amazing and if I can find a place to just get that dessert I would go in a heartbeat. I know I could have asked for more dessert but honestly I was just done and my husband was reeaaalllyy done so we just wanted to get out of there.
Bottom line is we will remove this from our "must do" list but that's ok. It makes room for the two new places we found to add, the Rose and Crown and Akershus.

Thanks for the info. I haven't been to 'Ohana, but have been pondering it for our next trip(s). I think I will save the credit and use it elsewhere. I have read too many disappointing reviews recently.

Thanks for the review. I think it's so silly they removed the other sauces. Why would they do that when there are so many peanut allergies today? It's not hard to make a soy sauce based sauce, and it's not like they're short on that in the kitchen!

Thanks for the review. I would agree that the lack of dipping sauces is disappointing. Could they at least have one other sauce? I wonder if you could call ahead of time and ask for an alternate sauce due to allergies? We are booked here for Feb but I think we will wait and try it in August instead.

Yeah I had an awful experience there in Nov. and an awful experience the time before that as well. I kept hoping it would be as good as it once was but I'm done with that place, seriously. Sorry your experience was the same.

Curious to know whether you let them know at the podium or your server about the allergy

I'm with you.
I've tried Ohana several times and consistantly find it to be one of, if not the worst and most over hyped meals in all of WDW. (It runs right along side Chef Mickey imo)

Bad food, bad service, crammed next to people like sardines...

I do like the noodles and the pot stickers IF they are hot, which they usually aren't.

I was at 'Ohana in 2009, and the dessert was as it is today, a family style large serving of bread pudding, banana foster sauce, and ice cream.

It sounds like you got a terrible waitress. Every time we've eaten at 'Ohana, we've had to tell them we were done with the meat course in order to get them to bring out the dessert. And, every time the waitress would bring over some meat, they'd ask if you wanted that meat. If you said no, they'd ask if they could bring you something else. The first time we went, my wife joked "I LOVE shrimp" and the waitress brought her 2 skewers worth. When my wife was nearly finished, the waitress came back with 2 more skewers and was going to give them to her before my wife stopped her.

This happened to me as well. She heard me say they were some of the yummiest shrimp I have ever had, and she would come to me as soon as she left the kitchen. It was pretty much all I ate.
