What's Everybody Reading this Fall/Winter Season?

I have been re-reading the Clan of the Cave Bear series. I'm on the 5th book now and I just have to say. Forget 50 shades of gray, these books have some pretty steamy parts themselves!!

I did divert from my pre-planned list of books (yeah I do have a book "itinerary" lol) to read Ted Dekker's second book in the Circle Series - Red. Thoroughly enjoying it even though it's my second time through this series.

Highly recommend any of his books, but especially, Black, Red, White, and Green (Circle series).

Just finished 'Birthmarked' by Caragh O'Brien & looking forward to the next 2 in the series.
I've read most of Ted Dekker's books including the Circle series. He is very good.
Still waiting for the next Karin Slaughter book.......

Right now I'm reading "Risky Shot" by Kathleen Brooks. So far-so good! This is an example of the advantage of these book threads. Someone here recommended the author when she had a discounted book on Kindle. I tried it and loved it. Thinking of getting her next series also.

Based on an earlier recommendation on this thread, I am reading Speaks the Nightbird and I'm really enjoying it. It's a big book. The first chapter I sort of thought "oh no, I don't like this style" but it quickly picked up. I'm about 3/4ths the way through.

Right now I'm ready The Secret of Grumpys Shed. The kids school secretary wrote it (its a kids book). Next up is Kingdom Keepers 4&5, DS12 is reading 4 but I read faster than him so I told him I'd catch up. Then I'm on to Wuthering Heights, one of my favorite books and the only book I actually read in high school. DS16 is reading that now and his teacher hates it but has to teach it, so DS and I will discuss the book together.

Just finished a quick read: The Fault In our Stars by John Green. Wow, it was moving. It is a Young Adult book (which I usually don't read) but it popped up on one of those best books of the year lists.

I will say it was sort of depressing but very touching. It is essentially about two teens with cancer. It sort of grabbed me because one of them has thyroid cancer (a bad case of thyroid cancer) and I had thyroid cancer but the book was really not about thyroid cancer. I thought the story was beautiful. Only took me two nights to read it and it's really staying with me.

I lied, I tried to start Wuthering Heights because DS decided to start it early. Yeah, I can not absorb it while sick, so I threw in the towel.

No reading for me until I feel better, unless it's a fluff read. If I need to pay attention while reading, I'm doomed!!

ETA: Just got a notice that Amazon has Under the Dome by Stephen King for $1.99! Sweet!

Finished up Edgar Sawtelle, and really liked it! I also finished up Shannon Hale's book "Palace of Stone." It's the second in her Princess Academy series. It was really good! I love her YA books, but have hated all her adult books. Go figure!

I'm still plodding my way through Team of Rivals, and now I have to add Unbroken to it. Book club is meeting on Thursday night, and I need to finish it before then. Wish me luck!

I just finished "The Bucolic Plague" by Josh Kilmer-Purcell, half of the "Fabulous Beekman Boys" that won the Amazing Race. It was really interesting learning more about their Beekman 1802 farm and store.

Now I want to read Josh's book "I Am Not Myself These Days", about his previous life as a drag queen!

Has anyone read 'The Casual Vacancy' by JK Rowling? Reviews have been hit or miss....so I'm on the fence about getting this book.

I'm currently reading it, about halfway through. It's ok. The story isn't great and it jumps around a lot from person to person. Most of the characters aren't that memorable. Plus there's a lot of cursing and sexual references to make the book 'adult.' If you're going to read it just because it's JK Rowling (which is what I did) you'll be disappointed.

I checked it out from the library before making the decision to buy it. I'm glad I did. I didn't particularly like it.

I'm about halfway through The Things That Keep Us Here by Carla Buckley. The plot is interesting because it's about a modern day pandemic. However, I find the characters to be flat, which is a shame because the plot is so good and there is much potential for good character development. The plot is keeping me going.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts....yep me too, I was drawn to it because it's JK Rowling. What a let down considering how much depth the characters had in the Harry Potter books. I figured she would have carried that into 'The Casual Vacancy.'

I should really get a library card to check out those books I'm 'iffy' about. I have a Nook, so I've gotten spoiled with wanting to read on that all the time! But we recently moved a few blocks away from a really nice library, and I've been meaning to wander over there. Now it looks like I've got motivation!
