Sci-Fi with a 5 year old
My husband would love Sci-Fi but I'm worried about our 5 year old daughter. I have heard it's loud and the movies could be a bit much for a 5 year old.
Any advice? |

It is not all that loud, and the movie clips are of the 50s cheesy sci-fi movie type - closeups of people screaming exaggeratedly, giant bugs attacking a city, plastic monster suits, the worst possible special effects. Some Tom and Jerry cartoons thrown in. It might bother very sensitive children but most would be fine.

I was a "hitchhiker" at Sci Fi 2 weeks ago and were in a car with 2 children, one looked to be about 6(boy), the other 4-5 years old (girl) and neither seemed upset or scared, they were laughing at the silly movies and having a great time.

My DD has loved it age 3, 4 and 6.
She loves sitting in the car. The clips are silly not scary. It is dark - we usually get DD one of the light up ariel drinks there.

SciFi is one of the quietest restaurants around. As already mentioned, the clips are incredibly cheesy and from the 50's genre. Theyre fun to watch. everyone seems to get a kick out of them.

We have been there twice now, once when my daughters were age 3 and 5, then later when my son cams along and he was 4. It is a bit dark but all the more reason they sell little lights that clip onto their drink glasses. This was probably my daughters favorite part of that second trip to Disney. We are going back in January, this time with our fourth child, a daughter who is now 3. She is a little more sensitive to noise and commotion. I am hoping she'll just join in on the fun or go to sleep. Although this is an absolute favorite of my family, there are a couple considerations:
It seemed to take forever to get through, my son was wanting to run all through the restaraunt before we could leave. Even though we had reservations, waiting for a table took a long time but at least they were able to play around outside while waiting. But plan ahead so you don't have any starving melt downs. The cars sit two people per seat, six to a car. The last time when we were a party of 5 I sat in the back by myself and pouted. I should have reveled in the peacefulness but I had envisioned sharing this neat experience and because of all seats facing forward and the constant film loop this is not a dinner on which you will be interacting all together. Still very fun as long as you are expecting it. I think there might be some smaller cars, not sure. |

We took DD when she was 4 & we had no problem.
It is really cute inside & is not scary at all. Enjoy!

We are going in a few weeks and look forward to it! My boys are 4 & 7 and I think they will dig sitting in a car to eat and not be in car seat.

I agree it is not scary however my 6 year old brother had other ideas. We had to leave because he was so scared.
The clips on the screen are so tame but I guess some kids do find it a little scary. Sent from my iPhone using DISBoards

I've taken my kids there every trip, so at various times I've had kids age 0-10 there. None of them were scared, and it's one of their favorite restaurants. I think there were some clips they didn't really like, but they weren't scared. So, I think it's just a matter of whether or not yours scares easily... how scared do they get on Halloween when they see things that aren't really gory or scary?
