Point rental newbie question
I searched the boards for an answer and didn't find anything so I hope those of you who have answered this question a hundred times will go easy on me
![]() If I want to rent points for Aulani to book at the owner's 11 month window (hoping to find someone), could I rent the points now (looking to travel 1 year to a year and a half out) and then wait for the owner to book at the opening window in May? I thought of this because I am afraid when the time comes, I won't be able to find any points to rent. Thanks!! Edited to remove actual travel times, edit appears in red - Chuck S Last edited by Chuck S; 12-12-2012 at 03:56 PM. |

Well, yes, you can look for an Aulani owner now. That would give you time to ask questions and finalize any payment schedule or contract questions. You don't actually rent points, you rent a reservation made on your behalf from a DVC Owner at that resort.

Thanks Chuck! So even if the points can't be "used" i.e., booked, until at least May I could still enter into a contract with somoene now and have it be valid when the booking window opens?

Those dates aren't sold out yet because it's not available to us yet. Then it's going to depend on their Home Resort. Right now I can only see availability for my Home Resort for my 11 month window, which for today's date is November 12 but my Non-Home Resorts I can book to July 12th, 2013. This means I can't see if Aulani is available during your time frame. A DVC member with Aulani will be able to see on Jan 1 if the resort is available Dec 1. With Aulani not being my home resort I can't check on December 1 until June 1.
Best case scenario is in a month from now (if you decide on Dec 2013) you find someone with Aulani as their Home Resort, they check availability and it's there, they reserve the ressie and then you pay them. I wouldn't pay someone for points until you know for sure that the dates you want are available. You could end up losing money or have to change dates and such until you can find availability that matches the dates you can travel. Of coarse this would all be dependent on the DVC member you rented from and their ability to keep checking dates. Again, your best chance is going to be with a member with points from Aulani checking exactly 11 months from the date you want to travel. Good luck! |

Sure. Remember though, that the owner retains control of the reservation up until you check-in, no matter when you book. I would word the contract that no payment of any kind is due until you actually have a confirmed reservation number. While many owners do like a payment before a reservation is booked, when you book 11 months out, the owner should be able to cancel the reservation without penalty if you fail to make any payment until you receive the confirmation number.

Thank you both. I am so excited to try point rental. We are also going to try a smaller rental for the villas at Disney GCA this summer. Which means we need to get a move on for that once since the 11 month window has passed and the 7 month window is fast approaching.
Again, thanks for your help |

If you found a member now with GCA you might be able to do late summer. Good luck! |

Thanks Tracey. So I am a big dope and created a post looking for a GVC owner, and when it didn't show up I read the part in the rules about how I can't do that. ooops. I swear I read that thread first, but only saw the part about not posting questions on the rent/trade board.
So now my question is...how do I find a GVC owner? go into each "for rent thread" and ask if they are a GVC owner? Thanks again for your help. |

The majority of owners, of course will not be from VGC. But you can also look in the titles of the thread as well as in the threads themselves to see if the over is offering VGC points, or look to see if their sig art makes a reference to VCG then contact them to see if they'll have points available for your desired travel dates.
You could also contact David's Rentals (a Rent/Trade board advertiser) to see if he can set you up with what you want.
