Addon Question Resale vs Disney Purchase
My DW and I are contemplating an addon to our current DVC points. We originally purchased 160 points thru Disney. We contacted out sales rep with some questions about the current prices and any specials.
After looking on the TimeShare store we found some fantastic deals. We are a little apprehensive about going out side Disney to purchase but the prices are just too tempting. So my question is what are the key factors I should consider in deciding between a Disney addon and a resale addon? ![]() So far (5 Yrs) we have only used our points for Disney vacations. We just want a few more points to allow us to get 1 BR units instead of studios... love the washer & Dryer! Any help, tips, or advice from the disboard community would be a tremendous aid in our decision. ![]() Thanks, Michael & Kim |

If you can try to get the same UY, that would be my advice. It's one less thing to try to manage. Otherwise you have another banking deadline. A diffrerent membership number. You may need to transfer points between the memberships. I find it easier to have one UY.

Like you, we have always, and always intend to use our points for DVC at WDW. We bought direct with our first contract, but have done 3 small add-on contracts since then. One of the small contracts is a 50 point contract with a different UY than our other points. In order to use those 50 points together with the other contract, I end up transferring the 50 points to the other contract. An alternative option would be to book 2-3 days with the small contract and the rest of the trip with the other and link the two reservations. With the small contract, I have to keep track of a different banking deadline, but typically I transfer the points before that is an issue. Resale contracts are restricted from being used for DCL, ABD and Concierge collection. Those options tend to take quite a few points to book and are probably not worth it.

I agree about the UY. We aren't in a hurry so we are willing to wait for a contract that has the same UY and home resort. |

If you buy the same use year and title the deeds exactly the same as your original contract, they can be added to your current membership number and avoid the hassles of combining the points for a single stay. They can be different home resorts, but the 11/7 month window applies to the points of each resort.
If you are able to get the same use year, be sure to inform your reseller & closing company of your current membership number so it can be noted.

Buying the same UY definitely makes it easier to manage.
Buying resale means you can not use your points for Concierge Collection, the Disney Collection or the Adventurer Collection, but those are all expensive ways to use your points. The big thing with buying resale is that it takes more time to end up with the points in your membership. Absolute fastest is 2 months. Figure out what you want to pay in total ($/point + closing fees + MF), then check out all three of the major brokers and see what they have. Keep checking the brokers regularly and ask them to place you on mail lists plus let them know what you are looking for. Buying resale is easy and definitely worth it with the money you can save. |

With SSR and AKV there is absolute no chance of a contract being ROFR'd. Good luck |

If you look at the numbers, outside of OKW and BCV you have a significantly high percentage chance of passing ROFR. Unless your deal is a prominent outlier, you are almost assured to pass. And even in the case of an outlier you still have more than a good chance. I recently had a contract pass at BLT for $80 pp with three years points at a time when nothing at BLT was going for under $90 (according to the information posted on the DIS). So bottom line is, if you are looking at OKW or BCV prepare to be either surprised you passed or ready to start over. If you are buying anywhere else, it's pretty much in the bag. Good luck with your purchase!

Thanks everyone for all of the information and advice. It has made my dw and I feel much more comfortable about getting into this resale process. Still a little nervous but in a good way.
