GoPro Hero 3..silver or black?

DS covets this thing (he is an adreneline junkie) and since the Hero 3 has only been out a short time I have not found many reviews (or a sale price ) Has anyone here (Mark B., perhaps?) owned a GoPro or have advice? The silver is retailing for $299 and the black is $399 so not a light purchase. A few family members would be chipping in so the black *could* be done, but not sure if it is worth the $100 difference?

thanks for any/all help or pointers. This would be the first GoPro DS will own, but he is a quality over quantity kind of guy

I'd go sliver myself and save the cash if it's the exact same model.

Thanks, I was originally thinking the same thing, but they do have differences. One big thing bugging me is battery life...an users out there can confirm if it is frustratingly short or not?

Silver Edition (MSRP $299)

■1080p / 30 fps, 960p / 48 fps, or 720p / 60 fps video capture
■11 Megapixel camera
■10 fps burst
■Wi-Fi Built In
■Compatible with Wi-Fi remote and smart phone app
■INCLUDED MOUNTS & PARTS: 197’/ 60m Waterproof Housing, Rechargeable Li-Ion battery, QR buckle, J-Hook buckle, one flat and curved adhesive mount, "assorted mounts", and USB charging cable.

Black Edition (MSRP $399)

■2,700p / 30fps, 1440p / 48fps, 1080p / 60 fps, 960p / 120 fps, or 720p / 60 fps video capture
■12 Megapixel camera
■30 fps burst
■Wi-Fi Built In
■Wi-Fi remote included
■Pro Low-Light performance
■The GoPro App is free
■Compatible with Wi-Fi remote and smart phone app
■INCLUDED MOUNTS & PARTS: Wi-Fi Remote and Key Ring, Rechargeable Li-Ion battery, QR buckle, J-Hook buckle, 3-Way Pivot, one flat and curved adhesive mount, quick release mounts, and USB charging cable*
■Also available in the Black Surf Edition: Includes a surfboard mount instead of the adhesive mounts.

I am thinking DS will prefer the low light performance and higher fps burst in the black edition, but having never owned a GoPro I am not sure if these are really key or not...

Ahh... so they're pretty different model wise not just in specs but in what's included. The included waterproof housing would have me personally leaning to the silver because I'm a scuba diver. It's got more than enough for what I'd use it for.

What does your DS do? Surf? Swim? Skateboard? And what does he plan to do with the images and video he shoots?

For the Black, the 720P/ 120 frames per second is a big attraction to me.

A photowalker last month had one mounted on a hardhat (silver) and walked around for at least 3 hours and still had battery left.He posted some pretty awesome shots from it.I think the difference from the older version to the newest one is they use a micro sd card now I think I've been kicking around the idea of getting the silver one for myself too

Thanks all, we decided to go with the black. The waterproof wi-fi controller and better low light capabilities were convincing and the fact that the black does 1080p/60fps. DS also does documentaries (and I know this isn't the best device for them , but should come in handy) Anyway, should be a fun new toy! I really appreciate the helpful posts!
I have a funny feeling this new device will be the *inspiration* for a return trip to Colorado...water rafting, snowboarding..the initial $400 is just the tip of the iceberg, lol!
