Mom & Son Heading to Food & Wine! Nov 9th - 13th! 12/2-Y&Y, MVMCP & Complete! - The DIS Discussion Forums

Hello again! I debating whether to start a PDR report or not. Today is single digit dance day so I figured if I am going to do it today should be the day!

A little background: We have been lucky enough to go to WDW every year since DS's first trip in 2004. In 2008, we had our usual end of August trip planned and DH found out that he really couldn't take the time from work. Instead of cancelling the trip, he urged me to have a Mom & Son trip with Andrew, then 12. As guilty as I initially felt that DH wasn't with us, it was really the greatest 10+ days! And the first Mom & Son dining reviews!

Here we were:

Fast forward to this past August and DS, now 16, is now nearly as tall as Goofy!

As some of you read, we had an amazing trip as a family! Fast forward to the Summer of 2013. It will be the summer before Andrew's senior year and then of course he will be off to college in 2014. So DH has told me that he wants me to have a "last" Mom & Son trip. Andrew does not want to go our usual last week in August as that is the week before he will start his senior year. So as this year's trip went along, I got the idea that it would save us some money if we upgraded our tickets to APs. Andrew went with me and as we walked out of the building he says "Does this mean we can come back before next August?". Well, yes, it does!

So the minute we got home I started looking up flights for MLK weekend in January. And they were CRAZY! Ok, plan B. Just for grins & giggles I looked up Veteran's Day weekend. What? $200 for us to fly down. Yes, please. Booked. Great AP rate at AllStar Music. Yes, please. Booked. Took a bit longer to book our flights back but hey, we had a trip booked!

Ironically this is only possible because I was laid off from my job in July. I had some money in a 401k that I asked for a distribution. Not a ton of money, but enough for plane tickets & spending money for this trip (And to book a trip in March but that is a whole nother PDR!). Should I have done something more practical with the money? Sure. But how many 16 year old boys want to vacation with their Mom? I am blessed to have one that does. He truly loves WDW as much as I do (even if he doesn't always admit it). I know there will be future trips as a family, even with his family. But I also know that I can't get this time back so I am seizing the moment!

Thus begins the Mom & Son year of Disney!

Ok, so what are the plans? I will definitely be reporting live and partaking in Jabead's Scavenger Hunt! But I won't give too much away so that you all will still come back to my dining report!

Our flight is Friday, November 9th at 8:15pm. I will definitly post some airport food! We land after 11 and will take the ME to AllStar Music where I am sure we will crash!

Saturday, November 10th is planned to be possibly my perfect Disney day!

Up early & off to EPCOT for Food & Wine! This is a first for us. I am expecting the crowds to be crazy but hey, it will be our first day so our patience level should be high. We are each making a list of our top 3 booths. Everything else will be icing on the cake.

Late afternoon, we will head to DHS for the Osborne Lights! I feel so blessed that we are getting to see them again!

After dinner at a secret location, we will head to the MK for EMH til as close to 3am as we can possibly manage!

C'mon ... can it be any more perfect?

Sunday, November 11th

We will sleep in a bit and head to DTD. Not sure if we will have breakfast or lunch. I really want to do the Characters in Flight balloon ride.

From DTD, we will head to DHS mostly for DS to go Star Tours. We will check out TSMM to see if we want to wait out the line. Late lunch at ??? Hmmm... will it be 50's? Sci Fi? Mama's? Or someplace else?

Then over to MK for the AP Fantasyland Preview! So very excited that I was able to get these! First time AP holders and we planned to be there for a special passholder event! So very cool! Really hope we get to taste LeFou's Brew!

I do have an ADR for late in case we are hungry and want more than MK QS snacks but again, keeping it a secret.

Monday, November 12th

Back to EPCOT for more Food & Wine booths.

Then Boardwalk bus to AK because I really want to see the Jingle Jungle Parade. We missed it on our Christmas trip in 2009. So will we eat in AK? Pizzafari? Flame Tree? Or maybe even Yak & Yeti?

From Ak, we are off to MK for our first MVMCP! I am really not sure what to expect here and truly have no pre-planned food plans. We will go with the flow. Who knows, maybe just sugar cookies & hot chocolate!

Tuesday, November 13th

Back to MK until we have to head to the Allstars for the ME bus probably around 2pm for our 5ish flight. Again, The Plaza, Tony's, Liberty Tree? Or will we leave for Kona, The Wave or GFC?

So there you have it. A very, very busy 3 and 1/2 days! I told Andrew that March will be all relaxing all the time! But this one is to soak in as much F&W, Christmas and Fantasyland as we possibly can!

I admit that as much as I love Deluxe Dining, I am really looking forward to getting to try more QS and snack items this trip. And again, I will have Barb's (jabeads) list!

Im in, Im in!! looking forward to ur reports, as well as seeing how u get on on the scavenger hunt

my eldest is 16 next year, and has been begging me to take him back to wdw too, i too lost my job and could prob spend the money on something alot more sensible too... but wdw is about quality family time, and i totally understand what you have done and why....

looking forward to seeing the first BOG (CS and TS) pictures, and some unusual things if ur doing the hunt... bring it on!!

Definitely go with your son if you can. No one can take away the memories!

Hi!!! My husband, myself and our 19 month old are coming down the same days!! We are from Buffalo. Too funny as I too took a small amount from my 401k as I am on a leave of absence from work. Probably not SUPER practical to spend some on Disney, but hey you live once. Got a pretty good AP rate....so......Disney it is! Maybe we will see you at food and wine! Enjoy!!!

Two more days! Fingers and toes crossed this new storm doesn't cause any issues with our flight. First time flying out of New Jersey and first Sandy and now this! On top of that DS and I both have colds from heck. Can you say stressed?

On a positive note, I have been trying to get an ADR for weeks with no success until last night! Victory is mine! So where do you think we are going? ; )
